General Song Preference: “Lucky” by Jason Mraz ft. Colbie Calliat

Author: Rhine

Boy, I hear you in my dreams
I feel you whisper across the sea
I keep you with me in my heart
You make it easier when life gets hard

He leaves, but he’s always there – he’s always in your thoughts, in your heart, in your dreams. You can feel his love from a thousand miles away, you can almost hear the I love you that’s whispered in his voice in the wind, the stars winking down on you with the twinkle that’s in his eyes. Even though he’d leave – for months and for months and for months – he’d never let go of you, and there’s a piece of him that you still hold from when you said goodbye at the terminal. The days dragged and the hours were slow without him; the sun shines a little dimmer and the nights are a little longer – but it’s the thought of him, the feeling you hold that keeps you company while he’s away. And it makes it a little easier – the memory of Calum doesn’t leave a pang in your heart for the things you no longer had when he was gone – no, the memory of him reminds you of all the things you have and even if your bed is empty, you still have him and his love. And you’re not quite alone – the stars shining down on you remind you that he’s still under the same sky, missing you like you missed him, loving you like you loved him, counting down the days until he’d come back.

They don’t know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this
Every time we say goodbye
I wish we had one more kiss
I’ll wait for you, I promise you, I will

He’s waited his whole life for you – for someone to fit into his arms like you did, for someone to bring a smile to his face at the very thought of them, for someone to soothe his heart and make his heart beat erratically at the same time – he’s been waiting for someone to make him redefine the word love, your picture underneath the very definition in his heart. He’s been waiting for you – he didn’t know it before but he knows it now, it’s you it’s you and you’re all he’s ever wanted and more. Life and fate and time brought you together but even though the very same things pry you apart, Ashton’s used to the waiting and god, now that he has something to wait for – you – it’s no trouble at all. Because even though he’ll miss the taste of your lips – just one more kiss – and the way you whisper his name into his ear – he’ll miss it all but days were just a countdown, incomparable to the infinity that he’ll have with you. Stars have moved and time has shifted and fate and science and god and theories have created you and him, for each other, for now – and Ashton knows that a part of him has waited eons for you. It’s long and it’s gruelling and it’s a little blurry at times – but you’re worth it, worth every second of pain and worry and loneliness for the moment you fall into his arms again.

Though the breezes through the trees
Move so pretty you’re all I see
As the world keeps spinning round
You hold me right here right now

In his life, nothing is ever constant – the hurried rushes to the airports, his flying fingers on the chords, the blur of passing faces and the whir back and forth of clocks in another time. He’s always moving, always going, too fast for him to catch his breath and remember where he is, too fast for him to slow his pulse and drink in the world that moves in a coloured blur past his eyes. But you – you’re the solidity that emerges from the blended colours and you take his breath away but you always breathe it back into his lungs again. And in the haze of it all – the confusion in times and dates and shows and crowds – he can barely keep up anymore – you’re there and you’re the paradise he needs, you’re the anchor that reminds him that there are some things worth holding on to despite running the fast life. You ground him and you remind him with the taste of your lips that some things need to be savoured; things must be properly cherished with a paused reverence as his fingers trace your skin. And even though nothing is ever constant in his life, that every variable can be changed – Michael has you, and you’re embedded into his system, something his whirlwind life can’t take away.

Lucky I’m in love with my best friend
Lucky to have been where I have been
Lucky to be coming home again
I’m lucky we’re in love in every way

He counts his blessings like how he counts all the reasons he loves you – infinite, and all pointing to the girl that he couldn’t get enough of. He can’t even fathom how lucky he is – that out of all the people in the world, out of all the fragments of moments that could have passed you by – that you chose him, that you chose to spend your time in memories with him. He can’t help but to think about the chances – the chances that he’s on earth at the same time as you, that even though eons have passed with eons to come, there’s something in the universe that said stop and put him next to you somewhere in the grand scheme of things. It’s all just a large stroke of luck, he knows – that someone like you would fall in love with someone like him, that he would find someone who would just fit with him like being apart never existed, that that someone would be you. You’re every title he could give – best friend, soulmate, home, paradise – he’d run out of wonders trying to explain what you are him, but he’d never run out of love for how he feels for you, even if he can’t put it into broken-stringed words. And nothing’s ever been perfect in life, but that was always before he met you.
