'Sense8' Canceled at Netflix

Netflix has canceled Sense8 after two seasons. [x]

The streaming service confirmed on Thursday that it would not be moving forward with the sci-fi drama from The Wachowskis. “After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8cluster is coming to an end,“ said Cindy Holland, Netflix’s vice president of original content.

"It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable,” she continued. “Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

The decision to not order additional seasons of Sense8, which first debuted in 2015, comes a week after the streaming giant canceled The Get Down, its ambitious music drama from Baz Luhrmann, after only one season. The moves mark rare ones for the streamer, which has renewed the vast majority of its slate as part of an aggressive push into scripted originals. Other Netflix series to be canceled include Marco Polo, Lilyhammer, Hemlock Grove, Bloodline and A&E pickup Longmire.

Rumors of Sense8’s uncertain future loomed in the days before the announcement. Castmember Brian J. Smith helped get a #RenewSense8 hashtag trending on Twitter in an effort to keep the show alive.

imagine writing scenes as heart wrenching as Eva and Jonas breaking up in the skate park, as beautiful as all the girls supporting Noora while she goes to the doctor, as emotional as Isak finding Even in that schoolyard in the middle of the night and as groundbreaking as Yousef and Sana discussing religion after playing basket ball together and still picking William stepping out of a car as your favorite scene. imagine that!

One bit of characterization I like about Asami is the way she shows affection through physical contact.

(And even better is the fact that she instinctively rejects Varrick’s own friendly invasions of personal space, not to mention Mako’s attempt to end an argument with hand-holding).

  • someone: hi-
  • me: the get down brothers did not break the locks and fight their way up to the top just to be slapped in the face with this blatant Disrespect and get shut down after just one 11-episode season when other shows are being renewed and expanded beyond their original source material despite having already wrapped up their singular plotline, therefore exposing netflix for their lack of promotion and overall unjust treatment of poc-focused shows and stories that serve as important beacons of inspiration and joy and hope and representation and empowering feel-good musical funk for so many viewers out there, poc and non-poc alike.

i cannot believe that mon-el just showed thousands of young boys that if you’re persistent enough and demanding enough, as long as you think you’re in the right, you’ll get the dream girl

and that kara danvers told thousands of young girls that this is what love is. this demanding thing where a boy promises to be better after consistently letting you down.

i never expected like perfect feminism from this show. but this is so far off from anything i expected after season one kara danvers. i’m beyond disappointed and this is super gross

13 reasons why i will fight netflix

1. The Get Down not getting a season 2
2. The Get Down not being renewed
3. only season 1 of The Get Down existing
4. no season 2 of the get down
5. cancelling their original series “The Get Down” only after one (1) season
6. season 2 of the get down not existing
7. non renewal of the get down after its 1st season
8. no more episodes of the get down, netflix original show, directed by baz luhrmann
9. close to 0 promotion of the get down
10. letting the get down go like this
11. there is not going to be more the get down after season 1
12. only 11 episodes of the masterpiece that is the get down
13. to ask why the fuck we are not getting a season 2

ok but i can’t believe that they’re writing Kara as being happy that she lost her job just because she can spend more time with her boyfriend…

in season 1 she was so ambitious and picking up everything from Cat on how to be a shark and she fought for her job and for her promotion and explicitly said that the job is what keeps her sane and grounded and that she needs it. and she even broke up with James to focus on herself.

an ambitious person like Kara would not be happy just sitting at home doing nothing, i call complete bs on that. but hey, it’s a white boy who needs fixing so i guess she can sacrifice her own development and everything she stands for just to be with him and help him grow. suddenly, just having the boy is enough because he’s white and immature. i guess her new job is taking care of him and fixing his mistakes

Kara: breaks up with James to “focus on herself”
also Kara: focuses on the white boy instead
