Brown Skin in Paris! | Wednesday, July 30th

I took up the challenge of photographing brown skin individuals during all my travels in France.

Afro French people make up a large percentage of the French population.

I am fascinated my brown skin. The dress, the accessories, the hair, the relationships, it all makes me curious.

Black. African. Pigments skin tones. All of us one yet shaped by the regions and countries we call home. I’m fascinated in how they different from city to city and country to country.

French Afro-Cuban twin sisters Ibeyi were one of the clear revelations of 2014. The 19-year-old sister are one of XL Recordings‘ newest signees and with “River,” they introduced their hypnotic blend of hip-hop, electronica, and blues infused with Yoruba prayers and folk songs. Besides singing in Yoruba, which was brought to Cuba by West African slaves, Ibeyi honor their father’s legacy and Afro-Cuban heritage through their percussive production (cajón, batá) and use of live instruments. “River” is dedicated to the goddess Oshun, the mother of the Ibeyi in Santería.
