Felicia Kentridge (1930-2015) was a lawyer and anti-apartheid
activist in South Africa. Founded by her in 1979, the South African Legal
Resources Centre helped numerous black South Africans by representing them
against the state and overturning several discriminatory laws.
She is the daughter of
South Africa’s first female lawyer. Even though the apartheid state is no
longer in place, the institution that she founded continues today, conducting
legal work of public interest.
Following South Africa’s 46-6 victory over Samoa on the weekend, Springbok captain Jean de Villiers has been forced to announce his early retirement after suffering a fractured jaw.
The 34-year-old centre who began his career in 2001 won 109 international caps for his country, leading the Springboks on 71 occasions, and also making him the most capped South African centre in history.
This injury not only ended his career but also halted his Rugby World Cup fairy tale exit. You could not write a more tragic ending.
