AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies #40
The Sound of Music
I’m surprised at myself for not seeing this until now considering how much I love Mary Poppins, but despite some obvious similarities, this really does feel like a very different movie. Julie Andrews is just great here and the songs are great and memorable. Another thing that impressed me was just the size of it. It’s long but I never felt bored, except for maybe a few slow songs. It’s a movie every fan of musicals or family films should see. Not much else to say except The Sound of Music is a classic piece of cinema.
