affinity for light

The best part was the light sabre fight with Ewan McGregor in Sith. Ewan is a great guy, I get on with him really well. We both have a great affinity for our light sabres – no pun intended - and we’d always spar when we had a spare few minutes. So when we got to Sydney to film Sith we argued them into letting us do the scene ourselves and really went for it - no stunt guys - and it works even though we were black and blue afterwards. It was like being nine years old playing your favourite game with your friend.

Full Name: Sakialyn Emberstar-Sunfire

Other Names: Knight-Commander, Guardian. Also a few nicknames: Saki and Lyn

Universe They Exist In: World of Warcraft

Gender and Sexuality: Cis heterosexual female.

Pronouns: She/Her

Ethnicity/Species: Sin’dorei

Birthplace and Birthdate:  Eversong Woods in a town near Fairbreeze Village. Birthdate is Nov 9th

Guilty Pleasures: Training, banana bread, playing the violin when she is alone or with Cynel, and Cynel himself (let’s be honest here).

Phobias: Few things set her off. Being unable to protect those she cares for.

What They Would Be Famous For: A commander of a successful private militia.

What Have They / Would They Gotten Arrested For: Nothing save old juvenile delinquency acts that happened in her youth.

OC You Ship Them With: Cynel, for obvious reasons @cynfuldax

Your Favorite OC Relationships: Cynel, obviously. How that developed was slow and amazing and some of the best roleplay I’ve had @cynfuldax. There’s also been a few friendships made like with Cere’thien @lissanaria and some camaraderie with her fellow officers, Arandur @theshadowavatar and Zalin @curiouslich. I’ve really enjoyed those relationships

OC Most Likely To Murder Them: Uncertain, save the Sunguard’s enemies on the battlefield.

Favorite Book Genre: Fairytales and action-adventure genres. If there’s swordplay, she’ll enjoy it

Least Favorite Book Cliche: Overly saturated damsels in distress.

Talents and/or Powers:  Excellent sword combatant with a strong affinity with the Light.

Why Someone Might Love Them: She’s loyal, steadfast, and determined in her goals. She also have a bit of wit once that stoic exterior is dropped.

Why Someone Might Hate Them: Her stoic exterior gives off a feeling of being cold and she’s quite stubborn once her mind is set.

How They Change: When first introduced to the Sunguard, she was every bit the perfect soldier: Loyal, unwavering, determined and with an absolute affinity for following orders to the letter. She is the same in that regard, but over time the people she has met have been able to get past the hard armor of hers and gotten the rare smile and some laughter. She started a family with the man she loves, which some time ago, would have been the farthest from her mind in considering.

Why You Love Them: I wasn’t sure what I was going to find in the Sunguard and originally the way she was made was to fit into the archetype of a militia in the guild. Its truly been one of the best decisions I have made because I’ve had so much fun playing her and she’s allowed me to make so many friendships by taking a chance on something I was hesitant about (namely, large guilds and eventually taking more of a leadership role). She’s had so much growth and so many fun experiences, she will always be my special baby. I could never tire of playing her ever.

Why you Hate Them: Sometimes she’s hard to build relationships with because she’s very no-nonsense and any humor is strictly kept in line for a more professional stance. Her commanding personality also conflicts greatly with my own, so sometimes its a bit of a challenge to write her, but in the end, its always very fun!

While, I think it has been stated in canon that Lucy has an affinity for light magic and has a large amount of magic power (apparently summoning celestial spirits requires large amounts and Mashima stated in a Q&A she has the amount of magic power of an S-Class Wizard), he never built off of it

Lucy had a lot of squandered potential, unfortunately. As the POV character, that’s especially shameful. It’s a shame she started getting unique spells so late in the game - I think mixing Metria spells with Spirits would’ve been an interesting route for her to take.

Now that we know that Rumple was meant to have Light magic and be the savior, this line is even more bitter sweet "My whole dark life I have sought out those who are light. Like you." He still has an affinity towards light bc that's what he was born with. (crying inconsolably)

Yeah, that line guts me.  He embraced the darkness, and yet he’s always been searching for the light.

I haven’t been a fan of most of OUAT’s later season plot twists, but this one just fits.

You know what occured to me? Both Kanan and Ezra kind of had/have two masters from both sides of the Force. Kanan had Depa as the light sider who taught him basics and the philosophy that has shaped him most. The Grand Inquisitor, as Freddie said, taught Kanan how to fight like a real knight. Ezra has Kanan of the light who helps shape his morals/outlook on life. Maul of the dark is teaching Ezra, for better or worse, different ways of understanding/knowing the Force to grow stronger/in tuned.

That is why Mace Windu’s lineage is very unique.

Aside from Mace’s stickler to rules (which I have expositioned before somewhere else that it was a necessity due to his position in the Order), the Windu lineage is . .

So, if we borrow some knowledge from Legends:

◑ Windu is forever walking the fine line between Dark and Light, hence the purple lightsaber

◑ Depa had some brush with the Dark Side, and that likely sent her into a coma. And before dying, she imparted some very important lessons to Caleb: Of the importance of emotion, and the control of emotion, hence balance

◑ Kanan was raised in the Light but matured by the Dark

◑ Ezra seems to have a natural affinity with both the Light and the Dark, within him

In a way, it’s kind of like a full circle now.

Mace’s conflict was internal.
Depa’s was external,
as was Kanan’s.
And now Ezra has an internal conflict.

I'm all in favor for Sakumo to be Etsuko's mentor. She needs stability right now. Someone to tell her when enough is enough, to shape her diligently and gently, to have someone to look up to. And I was looking forward to her showing him proudly her affinity is lighting.

I think it’s a no-brainer that we should all be in favor of this option if Etsuko’s complete well-being is priority no. 1.

Thanks for dropping by Anon!

(44) It also radiates a light called “Purity of Phenomena”
Able to cause all hair pores to expound Inconceivable wonderful teachings
So all who hear will joyfully understand.
What originates from causes and conditions has no origination;
The reality-body of the Buddhas is not a body;
The nature of things is eternally like space:
By explaining these meanings is there a light like this.

(45) Such incomparable gateways of lights
Are innumerable, like sand grains of the Ganges River;
All emerge from the Great Sage’s pores,
Each performing a distinct function.
As the lights emanated from a single pore
Are countless, innumerable as the Ganges sands,
So are those of each and every pore:
This is the power of the Sage’s concentration.
According to the lights attained by past practice,
Those who practice likewise, according to their affinities,
Now radiate lights therefore like this:
This is the freedom of the Sage’s knowledge.
Those who practiced virtuous deeds like the Buddha
And had appreciation and rejoiced in accord,
Who saw what he did and then did likewise,
They are all able to see this light.
If any practice virtuous deeds themselves
And make offerings to innumerable Buddhas,
Always aspiring to the virtues of buddhahood,
They are awakened by this light.

Naoto Shirogane | 15 | Female | Chon’sin/Plegian | Dark Flier

Oh man I finally finished her. Been itching to finish this for a while now since I first made drafts of her while I was on vacation. Finally glad I managed to sit down and work on her~ . I’m digging the whole P4 x FEA AU I have going on right now wwww

Fun fact, When I got into FE:A back in 2013 I was not expecting to make Naoto in-game, but after finding out that there is a hair style/color build that works very well for her, I couldn’t resist (I only wish you could use other hair builds in body builds tho, Naoto definitely falls on the smallest body build lmao).

I MIGHT consider doing the rest of the Investigation team (I actually have a few ideas for most of them) , but I guess I’ll see about how I feel about it?

more info  under the cut as well ^q^

(1/2) Finn was socialized in a collective & has issues understanding boundaries. He struggles with fear and identity, and was only able to detach from his violent conditioning when Poe Dameron gave him a different, equally violent figure to attach to. He's a complex character and your dismissal of him as "all goodness and innocence" is EXTREMELY minimizing to his role in the narrative.

(2/2) Moreover, when someone suggested that this attitude came from a place of racism, your response was, “oh, but look at how some of the antis behave”. You could have apologized to the person who said they were offended. Also could have removed the post in question.

That is your interpretation of Finn, and it’s an interesting one. However, the key word here is interpretation - what you have outlined here is your personal interpretation of the character, and it isn’t definitive.

We all bring our own experiences, prejudices and biases to every piece of media we consume, and these will subliminally shape our preferences and our perceptions. In Finn, I saw a character who was fundamentally good despite his traumatic background and his intense conditioning - I saw someone who had the conscience to help his injured comrade while others left him to bleed, and I saw someone who had the morality to lower his gun when the others at his side fired without question. That, to me, makes Finn a highly moral and admirable person - however, I find myself frustrated by his characterisation because I feel the film didn’t offer me anything resembling an explanation for why he had remained good.

I didn’t see Finn attaching himself to Poe because Poe was “equally violent” to what he was used to - I saw Finn attaching himself to Poe because Poe was kind to him, gave him a name, and treated him like he mattered. That’s probably my optimism coming through, but I simply didn’t see Finn being drawn to Poe because he’s a violent alternative to his already violent upbringing. That, to me, completely goes against the essence of the character, which is that he has a strong moral core - an instinctive affinity with the light, if you will - that somehow managed to remain intact despite sustained efforts to extinguish it. Finn has an arc, but as I see it it shows him overcoming his understandable fear to become a hero - his innate goodness ultimately manifests as the defining act of bravery that sees him step up to fight Kylo Ren to protect Rey.

I find the depiction of Finn’s inner struggle relatively superficial and resolved rather too neatly, but I’m not denying his importance to the narrative by saying that. As I’ve made very clear before, I consider Finn part of the trinity of The Force Awakens - he’s at the heart of the film, and it’s his journey as much as Rey’s and Kylo’s.

That is my interpretation. It isn’t wrong, and neither of yours - both of our takes are equally valid because we’re different people looking at the character with different eyes, expectations and interests.

My response was not built around “look at how the antis behave”. My response was intended to acknowledge that there have been problematic attitudes expressed by the Reylo community, and point out that I had attempted to call people out for those problematic attitudes. I also expressed frustration that these attempts have been met with nothing but contempt by the very people complaining that the Reylo fandom shows no interest in discouraging bad behaviour. The reference to the antis’ extreme hypocrisy was an addendum to the main point.

But this whole discussion has proven what I already knew, deep down - nothing we could do short off ceasing to ship Kylo and Rey, ceasing to analyse their interactions, and ceasing to find their dynamic interesting and thought-provoking will make a difference. In the eyes of some people, the mere fact that we are ‘shipping’ a white man and a white woman who share a tense and problematic dynamic in canon is an indicator of our internalised racism. No amount of ‘policing’ will make a difference to that, and I honestly just feel quite defeated - I’m stepping back from this kind of discourse, since it has proven to be futile and achieves nothing but mutual bitterness and frustration. I have also recognised that I have no responsibility or obligation to ‘police’ the behaviour of others, since that responsibility should rest with us all as individuals.

I’m not prepared to weigh up the morality of things like this before I allow myself to find them interesting or engaging. We are talking about fictional stories and fictional characters. We are talking about Star Wars. I like what I like, and I’m simply not going to apologise for finding one kind of dynamic more interesting than another.

I’m sorry if that offends anyone, but this is my personal fandom blog. I speak for no one but myself, and I am entitled to my theories and interpretations, just as you are. I do not intend to hurt anyone, and never target individuals, only interacting with their arguments. If people are genuinely offended by what I have posted - which was nothing more than a well-meant attempt to get people to check their behaviour - I can only recommend blocking me so you don’t see my content. I will not censor myself, and that’s my final word on the matter.

Way back in June of twenty-ought-thirteen, I heard a (then unfamiliar) Kurtis Wiebe on a podcast plugging his upcoming dark comedy comic about an all-women D&D-style adventuring group and I was sold. Rat Queens #1 came out a few months later, and I pretty instantly had a new favorite comic. Keep going until issue four, and I kind of fell in love with Braga. And in the course of about a year that would end up irrevocably altering my life.

Now I’ve always been drawn to a certain archetype of characters, namely physically-brutish women to be blunt about it but more specifically characters like Barda Free or Sailor Jupter who balance that physical strength while maintaining (and celebrating) more traditionally feminine qualities without feeling like a contradiction for it or, worse yet, that they’re some kind of ironic joke. Braga, while maybe more barbarian than homemaker, fell into this camp, and I clicked with her right away. Because, with the clarity of hindsight, these characters were as much a matter of admiration as they were aspiration for me.

But skip back to October of 2014, Rat Queens continued to be one of my favorite comics so I was especially psyched when a Braga one-shot (with Tess Fowler on art!) was announced. And with the previews of the book, the confirmation that Braga was a trans character. I have always been supportive of trans folk where I could, but at that point my own thoughts on the subject regarding myself had been pretty well buried as a youthful indiscretion. But seeing a character I had that strong affinity for in that light opened it back up in a way the rest of the positive media and stories I’d seen hadn’t. I can’t sit here and say “I’m transitioning because Braga,” it was months of agonized debate with myself, but one-hundred percent it was that book that led me to starting that conversation.

And skipping forward to now, I’m about seven months in after deciding to transition and on the cusp of turning 30 next week. I can usually let a birthday go by without notice but this feels like a big one, for a few reasons, and I decided to splurge a little. I bought my first piece of original comic art, and I’m the proud owner of the first page of Rat Queens Special: Braga.

I’m not a largely sentimental person, at least when it comes to assigning Feelings to Things, but when I realized some of these pages were still available (after writing off being able to afford it back in Jan) it seemed important to get one and have this totemic reminder of where this new chapter of my life ostensibly began.

Analysis IV. Sun and Moon: Origin of Everything

This is my longest and more exhaustive analysis so far. I’ve been preparing it since November of 2013, when LR: FFXIII came out. It’s quite a long read, so if you decide to check it, this is your warning.

In this analysis I’ll speak of symbolism of male and female and mainly the Sun and Moon dynamic the last part of the trilogy heavily features, specially in Hope and Lightning’s roles as main characters, though I also speak of other characters who also share them.

This is a symbolism study so it’s as objective as I’m able to do when analyzing stuff. It means it’s almost completely free of personal theories. Of course all symbols are an interpretation, and that’s the theory part of this work.
