The HM-40 Missile Base in Key Largo, FL was part of US military defense during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The base was in service from 1965 - 1979.

The base was in service from 1965 - 1979. The grounds now lay vacant as nature reclaims and my team of adventurepunks and I explore what remains; and battle the billion-deep, blood-thursty battalion of buzzing mosquitoes and the taught webs tended by arch arachnids.

Stop moving and the mosquito sinks it tooth.

After snapping this shot I turned to piss. Looking down at my legs it appear I was wearing fishnet stocking. Mosquitoes clung to every inch of exposed flesh. I slapped my leg, a puff of them buzzed about. I realized the thousand mosquitoes dining on me now were nothing to the billion that have us in their crosshairs. The only option was to run and not slow down.

One of many structures still standing, this appeared to be the mess hall attached to the barracks. The density of insects was significantly less here.

The deteriorating radar towers roost over the tree line.

Out of breath and out of reach of insects and other crawly critters I gather myself after having run the entire way to this point.
