advance marketing

Best Advice for Aspiring Authors:

1. Keep expectations reasonable about how long it takes to publish, advances and marketing, etc.
2. Make goals that are in your control (ie how many words you write a day, not when you will be published).
3. Network—which means basically, make friends in the business.
4. Keep sending things out.
5. Write something new—don’t wait around once you’ve finished something and sent it out.
6. Try lots of genres to see what fits best with your unique style.
7. Set creative challenges for yourself throughout your career. Write the thing you think you can’t write.
8. Write what you love, not what you think will sell
9. Live life fully in the meantime.
10. Tell stories, don’t preach.

CHILDREN OF THE WORLD / CHINA - As I travel around the world on various assignments, I never tire of taking photos of children. Not only are they so picturesque as only children can be, but they also represent a hope in them that can’t be found in any other type of images. In their joys and in their despair, in their riches and in their poverty, my heart goes out to them. I want to lift them up to the word and shout, “Look, this is the future! The future is in their hands!” I sometimes wonder, though, what kind of future will they have … I spotted this young boy at an open market in Kunming, China. What immediately struck me was the traditional Chinese clothing he was wearing, even though this was not a traditionally “tourist” market. Advancing into the future while honoring the past; nice. I couldn’t help but think the future looks bright for this young man!

  • character: i don't have any goals or aspirations or a definite idea for what i want to do in the future
  • me: excellent the relatable content
  • character: i guess i'll just spend some time on my hobby that i am passionate about, which involves me clearly honing a skill which is both very advanced and marketable
  • me: god damn it
