admitting to mistakes

anonymous asked:

the jj thing makes me super conflicted like, everyone hecks up sometimes ykno? and sometimes it may be really severe and offensive, but these ppl telling him to die or choke is really bad and not give him space to change? plus some ppl don't even consider it harassment at all and im just dumbfounded. idk bout others but this sort of thinking is really toxic in the first place which leads to the present of this discourse. i mean if you know someone who is all-rounded perfect, hmu then :/

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I do not think what he said was alright, I think his apology could have been a much more sincere, but it did come from a heartfelt place. The fact that people are sending death threats is just utterly sick and disgusting. When you look up to someone, you have to realize they’re human too, or else you’re gonna be crushed. He made a mistake, he admitted it was a mistake. I wish people would just move on.

The whole “Lucius was abusive with Draco” thing has always been so funny to me. Really, I don’t get how people are able to believe something so silly.

Seriously, guys, wake the fuck up, if Lucius had been abusive with his son, he wouldn’t have been a part of the series. You know why? Because Narcissa “If you attack my son again I shall ensure that is the last thing you ever do” Malfoy would have killed him ten times in a row.

Random Headcanon: Two-Face’s penchant for half-and-half suits wasn’t planned. He just accidentally wore mismatched socks on a heist one time, and when a henchman pointed it out, unwilling to admit the mistake, he claimed he’d done it on purpose as an expression of his inner duality. Things sort of escalated from there.

Funny. Because the guy admitting he made a mistake is something, at least. He’s not delusional, like many still are.

But I also understand why a Muslim woman would be so mad at him and not exactly in the mood to be grateful for his humility and (tired) Arrested Development jokes.

I sympathise with her more, tbh. The amount of racist rhetoric he shrugged off to vote for that guy…eh, that is very, very bad.

The Awesomeness of Hufflepuff
  • Person: I like Hufflepuffs! They're particularly good finders lol.
  • Me: ...
  • Person: I mean, they're just kind of average, aren't they? There's nothing really special about them. They don't really do anything.
  • Me: ...
  • Me: Cedric Diggory was selected by the Goblet of Fire as the most worthy student of Hogwarts. He then proceeded to win (tie) the Triwizard Tournament fair and square, despite a Death Eater rigging it for Harry to win and Fleur and Victor both getting assistance from their cheating headmasters. Not to mention how he defended Harry (his opponent) against injustice done by his own supporters.
  • Me: Nymphadora Tonks let her very hair stand in rebellion of the world's expectations. She overcame the intense prejudice of the world and married a werewolf. She also worked undercover at the Ministry of Magic for the Order, then fought and died in the Battle of Hogwarts, despite having every excuse to stay out and stay safe.
  • Me: Pamona Sprout--the hero of Hogwarts who saved every single Petrified student when the Chamber of Secrets was opened.
  • Me: Ernie Macmillan stood up to the murderous Heir of Slytherin (or so he thought) to defend his good friend Justin, then admitted his mistake and apologized to Harry when he realized he'd been wrong.
  • Me: Susan Bones lost her ENTIRE family to Death Eaters over the course of the two wizarding wars. Yet she still chose to fight in Dumbledore's Army rather than succumbing to fear.
  • Me: The Fat Friar was executed for saving as many people as he could from the pox and was known for his willingness to give second chances, even after his death.
  • Me: Helga Hufflepuff was the only founder willing to teach ALL students willing to learn because give it a break guys, they're 11 years old.
  • Me: Hufflepuffs are loyal and true and fair and STILL manage to kickass against the traitors and the liars and the cheats.

Writing Characters that Slowly Descend Into Madness

Okay y'all this is one of my absolute favorite tropes / character arcs / whatever you want to call it. I’ve written at least two characters that end up twisted and deranged… While it’s fun to do, it can be a little difficult to nail down, so I thought I’d share some tips!

From Avatar the Last Airbender’s Azula to Gollum, characters often think that they can handle the Ultimate Power™ when they really can’t. These corrupted characters and their character arcs can be tricky to write, so here’s some pointers!

  • The character to be corrupted should have a one track mind. Your character needs to have a goal in mind, one that (at least in their eyes) requires the Ultimate Power™. This goal can be as simple as world domination, or as complex as “I need to get revenge on this specific person in this specific manner, or else I won’t be satisfied.” It’s up to you, but you need to make sure that your character’s every action revolves around this central goal.
Or, if your character has two motivations, like reconciling themselves to their family while simultaneously saving the world, make sure they can only do one of them! This will cause lots of conflict and it will be great..
  • Get used to writing internal conflict. In one of my novels, the main character has the power to clean the world’s water supplies, but her friends disapprove for…complicated reasons. She has something of a mental breakdown, wondering if she should be doing what she is. Internal conflict is a great way to show your character being pulled in two different directions; after all, tearing our characters apart is the name of the game.
  • Make sure your character thinks that they are using their Ultimate Power for good. Even if they’re not. Especially if they’re not. When you can follow a villain’s logic and understand why they are doing the horrific things they are, they become that much creepier.
  • The Ultimate Power must be so attractive that your character can’t help but use it. The only way your character can be corrupted by power is if they use this power. Therefore, they must use it often. Whether this be a superpower, power that comes from the crown on their head, or dark magic, make sure your reader gets plentiful helpings of seeing the character use it.
  • Don’t be afraid to take it slow. Characters descend into madness, they don’t plummet into it. Let your character spiral slowly downwards, let them saunter casually into their twisted ways of thinking.
  • If they can’t be redeemed, they should probably die. Characters that have gone power mad really only have two options: redemption or death. Sometimes your character can pull out of their downward spiral and recognize their mistakes. This may lead to them siding with the very people they had been against, like Magneto teaming up with Prof X to fight a Bigger Baddie. Or they could just admit their mistakes and go on their way, like Mystique occasionally does.
But if you can’t find a way to redeem your character (or don’t want to), then you should probably consider killing them off. Characters mad with Ultimate Power™ are usually unsustainable, and will usually self destruct at some point.

A character who descends into their madness and power-craziness and has a descent that is really well written can be super engaging. They are, at least, my personal favorite to write and read about. Have fun, and happy writing!

If there’s a writing thing you want to see me post about or you just wanna say hi, go ahead! I’d love to hear from you.

The Signs’ Responses to Making a Crucial Mistake

Aries: An Aries will always take full responsibility for their blunder, and will be the first to say so. However, they’ll be mad if anyone else brings it up.

Taurus: A Taurus will try to prove their worth by making sure everyone knows about the other good things they did. They’ll try to make sure that people know that they’ve contributed and that this mistake doesn’t define their work ethic.

Gemini: A Gemini will ask others for advice on how to fix the problem and make everyone forgive them.

Cancer: A Cancer will admit their mistake and try to ‘make it up’ to everyone else.

Leo: A Leo will want people to reassure them that it wasn’t that big of a deal, that the mistake wasn’t their fault and that it will be okay.

Virgo: A Virgo will apologize a lot and feel guilty. They’ll feel like a failure, basically.

Libra: A Libra will be devastated and will probably want to punish themselves somehow.

Scorpio: A Scorpio won’t seem too affected on the outside, but they’re probably berating themselves on the inside, and they’ll grow livid if you even hint that they don’t care.

Sagittarius: A Sagittarius will quickly be annoyed if people keep on complaining about them. They will hold themselves accountable, it’s just that they want to focus on a solution instead of spending forever thinking about who caused the problem.

Capricorn: A Capricorn will throw themselves into their work, trying to find a way around the mistake.

Aquarius: An Aquarius will try to come up with a creative way to solve the problem. The mistake will be like an obstacle to them, and they won’t want to think about why it was their fault or what they did wrong.

Pisces: A Pisces will try to come up with ways to continue on the same path despite the mistake, even if there are none. They may also try to think of excuses. They’ll also think of what they could have done better, almost to the point of obsession.

The Fight

Warning: Angst

Dean was pissed.

The car drove silently along the dark, empty road. Not even the sounds of Zeppelin played in the background. His knuckles were white. You knew you were in for it when you got home. You knew that you two were going to yell at each other until you were blue in the face and you were more than likely spending the night in your old bedroom. You had been spending a lot of time there recently. You were starting to wonder if maybe you should move your stuff back in there.

You and Dean had been fighting more and more these past few months. It was about anything and everything. You didn’t pick up any beer. You forgot to pack an extra shirt and now I’m stuck giving you mine. It was everything. He had just started flirting with bartenders when you went out after hunts. It was only a matter of time until he forgot all about you.

You were hurting. Dean was the love of your life. He was there for you when you needed him the most. He made your heart race and your knees weak. He brought out the best in you and sometimes the worst. He challenged you in the best ways. Now? Now it felt like you were the last thing on his mind unless he was pissed at you. You no longer felt like you were the girl he loved. You felt like it didn’t matter if you were there or not. You fought so much that you’d rather that than face life without him.

Dean pulled into the garage and cut the engine. You were out of the car faster than you ever had been. You forgot about your bags and headed straight in, Dean hot on your tail. You weren’t ready for this fight. You weren’t ready for any of them. But this time, you were so close to your breaking point. You couldn’t handle it today. You didn’t want to have this fight. You wanted to feel your boyfriend’s arms around you, and just for once. Just once, have him tell you that everything was going to be okay.

 That was wishful thinking.

“What was that back there?” he started, shrugging his jacket of his shoulders.

“I made a mistake,” you admitted.

“A mistake? You nearly got yourself killed Y/N!” he raised his voice.

“Yeah I know. I’m sorry. It won’t happen again,” you practically whispered.

“That’s what you said last time,” he scoffed.

“Dean, I really don’t want to fight,” you said softly. “We fight all the time. Can’t we argue about this tomorrow and just go to bed?”

“Fine. Don’t wait up,” he practically growled, grabbing his jacket. He was headed to the bar.

 “Dean!”

 “What?” He rolled his eyes.

“What happened to us? We never used to be like this,” you breathed out.

“You knew how hard this was going to be before we started-”

“Of course I did, Dean! We’re hunters. We don’t know if we’re going to have tomorrow or not but that’s not what I meant. We never used to fight like this. Now it’s like every conversation we have, it turns into an argument,” you started. “Is this not enough for you anymore? Am I not enough for you?”

“Can we talk about this later?”

“No! No we can’t! I’ve been pushing this down for months Dean! MONTHS! Every fight! Every time you absentmindedly flirt with the bartender right in front of my face. You think I don’t feel it every time I sleep by myself? You think that this what I want hanging over my head every day? Constantly wondering if today is the day you kick me out or worse, tells me that you don’t love me anymore.”

 “Y/N, stop!”

“You know, a part of me wished that I would have gotten seriously hurt on that hunt today. It’s a sad thought that I figured that if I got hurt that maybe my boyfriend would care. Maybe he would stop fighting with me to realize that I was hurting more than just physically.  But you don’t care and I can’t make you care. Just like I can’t make you fall in love with me again,” you sniffled, wiping away the tear that slipped down your cheek.  “I’m sorry that I wasn’t enough for you Dean. I can’t keep putting myself through this. I love you with all my heart, Dean and more. When we were happy together, you gave me some of the greatest memories. But I’m sorry, I can’t do this anymore.”

“Don’t. Don’t walk away,” he pleaded.

“Give me one good reason not to.”

I am disgusted and utterly disappointed to have to do this, but I want to make sure all of you in the beauty world know NOT to support Jeffree Star Cosmetics. He was an idol to me, until I just this morning learned that he is a blatant racist.

People are calling him out on Instagram for a past video he had made with a friend doing black face; he used the words “little black bitch”, and talked about THROWING BATTERY ACID ON A BLACK WOMAN TO LIGHTEN HER SKIN TONE.

He is currently blocking everyone who is calling him out and demanding an apology. He will not admit to his “mistake”. That is… beyond appalling to me. If you were once a gross piece of trash, you should at least admit it and apologize, otherwise it looks like you’ve learned nothing. For all we know, he still feels that way about black women.

I will not support him or his cosmetics line from now on.
