adam's village

pockethaus!

thank you, live action beauty and the beast, for explaining so many plotholes from the original that have annoyed me since childhood

  • Prince Adam (Adamn) being an actual selfish prick at the start (and an adult, not some poor 10 year old child with stranger danger awareness)
  • The enchantress making everyone forget the massive fucking castle 20 minutes from the village
  • Adam’s backstory to why he was a douche canoe
  • Adam being able to read (and his delightful review of Romeo and Juliet) because of course a prince would have the best education there was not to mention a decade of free time

Plotholes not covered by the remake

  • food. where the fuck is they getting fresh produce from? they sure as shit couldn’t grow tomatoes in everlasting winter

“He always was a weird kid” – this way 25-year-old Adam Aliev of Chontaul village, Dagestan was described by a high official of the village. Adam believed that though he was born in male body, his true destiny is to be a woman. 2016 was a very special year for Adam. He travelled to Moscow where he met a man called Victor. They fell in love and Adam finally decided that he should become a person he always wanted to be: woman called Raina. Adam underwent successful sex reassignment surgery performed by talented surgeons of Moscow. On 27 October 2016 Raina and Victor had a very beautiful wedding in Victor’s hometown. His family accepted his choice, but Raina’s family and people from her village had a completely different reaction. They threatened to kill the doctors that performed sex reassignment surgery and said that they would kill Raina too. Her own father stated that he wouldn’t mind if Raina would be killed in front of him. On 31 October 2016, four days after Raina’s and Vadim’s wedding Russia was shocked by news about Raina’s death. Numerous media outlets reported that Raina was brutally killed by people of her village. However, Dagestan officials disproved it, saying that as far as they know Raina and Vadim are on their honeymoon in Thailand.Hopefully, this story will have a happy-ending.

“Hitching rides from New York to Chicago; keeping enough change in your pocket to make calls from pay phones; making the rounds of friends and acquaintances living in tenement walk-ups, all with the same makeshift end table next to the same beat-up sofa by the same window looking out on the same fire escape—Inside Llewyn Davis is a story whose every particular is firmly rooted in the early sixties in general, and in the West Village in particular. The Coens have always been zealous excavators of the unheralded or bypassed corners of American life, from late-forties Northern California suburbia to the folkways of the modern American Midwest. They are connoisseurs of the spaces between and the moments before and after or just on the edges of historical milestones. And as storytellers, they seem to begin, gleefully, with a self-imposed challenge: Who is the least likely hero-on-a-quest on whose shoulders we can park an entire movie?

That the Coen brothers are comic artists is lost on no one, but I think of them equally as musical filmmakers. Like Martin Scorsese and the many directors who have come after him, the Coens make films with carefully curated pop-music soundtracks (The Big Lebowski, A Serious Man) tied not only to the ambience but also the thematic drive of the works. Each of the Coens’ movies is “set” to the music of a particular variety of American speech …

Whenever the characters in this film pick up their instruments and sing, their sense of time, and ours, shifts from the numbingly horizontal to the poetically and ecstatically vertical … Plain American language in all its glory, a deep and aching sadness transfigured by song into what can only be called affirmation, a tattered, bloody flag of freedom planted in the ground of doubt, cruelty, and indeterminacy. That’s the wonder of this music and the movie that holds it.”

A few times a week Belle and Adam would go down to visit the village. Adam would usually have some things to discuss with the villagers about what he could do to make his kingdom better. Then Belle would take the opportunity to interact with all the young girls and boys, teaching then how to read. The children were so relaxed with Belle, giggling and having a good time as they read the words in their books. But as soon as they saw the prince in their sight they would quickly sit straight up and be on their best behavior just causing Belle to giggle. “If only you all knew how his manners were when I first met him, you would think it was silly.” She teased before looking up at Adam, “Isn’t that right, mon chéri?” She questioned as she pushed the loose strand of hair back out of her face.

Knowing why Victoria has left, Aaron covers to Moira over their departure. Later, Andy also covers to Moira and Diane when they are fretting about Victoria and Adam having gone. Robert insists they need to contain the situation before people find out that Victoria has run away while still in the frame over Ashley. Robert finds Victoria and Adam’s phones at the scrapyard. Later, Robert tells Andy that he has sent a message to Diane on their behalf, in the hope of assuaging her worry. A troubled Harriet overhears their exchange and is soon thrown when Robert employs her to track down Victoria and to name her price for the work.
