Haptic—Excess Of Vision (Notice Recordings)

Haptic’s last record, Abeyance, was all about coping with absence. The trio of Steven Hess, Joseph Clayton Mills, and Adam Sonderberg originally formed expressly to play live, and even when they didn’t have a concert on the calendar they convened for weekly recording and rehearsal. But in 2010 Sonderberg left Chicago for California, and sometime afterwards Hess gave up the space where they had convened. Some bands might take this as a signal to give up, and numerous experimental musicians would take it as a cue to invest in a Dropbox Pro account and start sharing files. Instead, Haptic made an honest representation of their situation — an album of empty room sounds and barely overheard instrumental interludes.
