the Scuderia Centro Sud Ferrari 250GTO of Tommy Hitchcock & Zourab Tchkotoua on its roof in the Karussell during the 1963 ADAC 1000km Rennen at the Nürburgring

with hindsight, they just put the most expensive car in the world on its roof, luckily back then it ‘only’ cost around $18,000, last summer a '63 GTO -driven by Maurice Trintignant- was sold at $38,000,000
some say GTO’s even go up to $50,000,000 in so called closed auctions

what we miss … natural racetracks

Stefan Bellof & Jochen Mass, Rothmans Porsche 956, 1983 ADAC 1000km Rennen, Nürburgring

the last time the Nordschleife would host an international event on the (by then) 20,8km track, the ‘84 event for the World Endurance Championship would be run on the all new 4,5km track

Pedro Rodriguez & Richie Ginther’s Ferrari Dino 206S at the 1966 ADAC 1000km Rennen at the Nürburgring

Rodriguez & Ginther would come in 3rd behind Scarfiotti & Bandini’s Dino & the winning Chaparal-Chevy 2D of Joakim Bonnier & Graham Hill, which is partly visible in the picture behind the Ferrari

Maurice Trintignant trying out the Ferrari 335 Sport of Peter Collins & Olivier Gendebien at the 1957 ADAC 1000km Rennen

Tritignant was teamed up with Mike Hawthorn & they raced the smaller capacity Ferrari 315 Sport (3.8 V12 instead of a 4.0 V12), they finished 3rd & Collins & Gendebien finished 2nd
winners were Tony Brooks & Noël Cunningham-Reid in the Aston Martin DBR1/300
