DORIANMANCE WEEK -::- DAY 2 -::- Yuri!!! On Ice AU
Pavellan. Dorian Pavus x Varlen Lavellan (approx 2.8k words, most under the cut) <3
Varlen gritted his teeth, hands gripping the wall of the
rink, his long hair falling in tousled disarray to either side of his head. He
breathed hard, exhausted. Frustrated.
Not for the first time, he found himself wishing that he had more to offer than, according to the judges, a few toe-loops and a ‘winning smile’.
A winning smile.
He snorted derisively, reaching up to rub his eyes with
cold fingers. Actually winning
for once would be pretty nice, too. Hell, at this point, he’d just settle for
beating his personal best. But he knew the truth; it shared the same
sinking feeling as sitting in the kiss-and-cry at the last Grand Prix Final. That utter disaster. He was in a slump. No, not even just a slump. A complete stall. He wasn’t necessarily getting any
worse, but he had stopped improving. And he needed
to improve. He needed to push past that chest-clenching anxiety that flared up every time
he stepped out in front of a sea of cameras and unfamiliar faces.
He was running out of time.
But just wanting
something? Well, that wasn’t enough. He just… couldn’t. It was too hard to force himself out of his own head.
Sure, he could berate and curse his shortcomings until he reduced himself to
tears, but it never made any real difference. Never helped. On the few times where he’d found
the courage to go to his friends with his problems, they just tried to console him. Lied
with kind smiles and said that he was good.
That it would pass. That everyone had slumps and he just had to believe in himself. But it had been over
two years and nothing had passed. Nothing
had changed. He was hopeless. Useless.
Blinking back a frustrated haze, Varlen nodded tightly,
straightening and releasing the wall. He kept his head down as he skated back
out to the centre of the rink, each sweeping movement weighed down by a kind of
numb acceptance. He was a failure. Before, his issues had only really surfaced
in competition, not in training. But now, even in a place that was more a
home to him than his own house, he
found his mind absent. His concentration muddled. His body uncooperative. His
skates weren’t an extension of himself anymore. They were just two bits of metal
strapped to his feet, awkward and unwieldy.
All of a sudden, standing alone at the heart of the ice,
Varlen wanted nothing more than to rip them off.
A date with josuke sounds great!! Sorry I didn't read up on your rules :0
It’s totally fine, anon! Everybody makes mistakes, it’s all
chill lmao. I tried to make this extra long for you.
Josuke is my favorite Jojo, so… good choice, lmao
So. It took him forever, but Josuke finally worked up the
courage to confess. And then he asked you out. And you said yes?? And he can’t
He’s so nervous, he’s liked you for awhile but he never
really thought that far ahead. He wants the first date to be perfect. He goes
to Jotaro, of all people, for help- that was a mistake, because this guy is as
charming as a rock. He doesn’t have much good advice to give.
Eventually, since none of his friends have a lot of dating
experience, Josuke caves and goes to his mother. She’s thrilled that her son
would come to her with something like this. All she suggests is super romantic
stuff, and it becomes… kinda clear that she’s projecting, and this is the
stuff she wants to do with a boyfriend one day.
When he finally picks you up for your hopefully-perfect
date, he’s sweating bullets. You can’t help but laugh at the poor boy. He
offers you his arm or his hand, whichever you’re more comfortable holding, and
compliments you as the two of you start walking.
“Looking great today,
babe! Uh, n-not that you ever look bad, I just mean-“
He’d be embarrassed when you laugh again, so he’d try to
change the subject quickly. He says he’s got a great evening planned, so you’re
kind of excited now. What could he have in mind?
Josuke learned almost everything he knows about dating from
American movies, so he’d start out by taking you to a restaurant. He tried to
pick something that wasn’t straight-up fast food, but wasn’t too formal either;
super fancy restaurants are for later in a relationship, is what he believes.
The talk over dinner is really relaxed, which relieves him.
That’s part of why he fell for you, after all- he’s always comfortable in your
presence. You can ask him now what he has planned for after this, but he’ll
just grin and shake his head.
“It’s a secret! Ah,
hey, don’t look at me like that- you’ll enjoy it, I promise.”
He insists on being the one to pay for dinner, but you end
up being the one to tip the waitress, since he doesn’t quite know the etiquette
behind that. After you leave, he grabs your hand again, leading you down a
street you haven’t been to for awhile.
This turns out to be a shortcut to the main event- a
festival is in town! Josuke admits he doesn’t quite know what it’s for, but he
goes every year and always really enjoys it. He’s smiling nervously at you as
he watches you take in the sights; stalls and vendors everywhere, shouting
about the goods they sell and services they offer. There’s musicians playing
different songs from multiple stages, belting our their music with all their
heart in an effort to be discovered. The games are flashing their lights and
making electronic whirrs, playing tinny carnival tunes; it’s fantastic, and you
wouldn’t have known it was here otherwise.
Josuke still wants to be the one paying for whatever you
want, but he can’t help but admit it would help his wallet out if you pay for a
few things too. He’ll buy you a bunch of snacks; he’d be super flustered if you
offered him a bite of your food, and after accepting, he’d offer you a bite of
his own. [Several young women saw that and immediately began whining at their
dates, who’d spent the night hogging all the food for themselves.]
He challenges you to a game or two; you were going to play a
second round of that game where you have to knock the bottles over with a
baseball, but then you noticed he was using Crazy Diamond to throw the ball.
That’s cheating, Josuke!
The two of you spend
a lot of time at the goldfish-scooping game; you end up getting a fish first,
and insist that you’ll name it after him. Josuke’s blush never really went away
When it gets dark, he insists on herding you to a hill just
on the outskirts of the glowing festival lights. He mentions that this is where
he always watches the fireworks, and he wants to share his favorite spot with
While the fireworks are going off, he totally wants to lean
over and kiss you, but… he’s not brave enough yet. So he settles for just
holding your hand. He promises himself that he’ll kiss you here next year,
I dunno man, half the time I’m like “Alexander you idiot, wtf were you thinking with the Reynolds Pamphlet?” then the other half I actually totally relate. “No you can’t ruin my life I won’t let you in fact I’ll do it for you”
1026. When Snape died, the first person there to greet him was Lily. She walked up to him and punched him in the face, demanding answers as to 'WHY THE HELL DID YOU VERBALLY ABUSE MY SON FOR SEVEN YEARS???'
