MTV Movie Brawl: A Word from One Marshmallow

Okay, first of all I want to make one thing abundantly clear. I am a big fan of both The Hunger Games and the Divergent series. I haven’t had a chance to read The Maze Runner, yet, though it is on my list, as it was recommended by one of my students, and the movie looks good. The second thing, that I want to make clear, is that when all is said and done, this is just a silly poll/contest. It does not equate to box office numbers or the amount of fans something has, as you can vote numerous times. So, does it REALLY, actually matter? No.

Now, with that said, let me try and explain why it is SO important for Veronica Mars fans to do well, if not win. Our movie is based on a show that was cancelled after 3 seasons. We NEVER got ANY closure. All of the movies that are left are based off of a book. You know how it ends. We don’t! We’ve been clamoring for a movie, a book, something since the show was cancelled in 2007! That’s SEVEN years with NO closure! Last year we were shocked and amazed that Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell started a Kickstarter Campaign to make the movie! Over 90,000 people gave their hard-earned money to give them a BUDGET of just under $6 million dollars to make this movie! This is not a big budget film! The studios did NOT want to make this movie, but the fans and the creator, and the actors DID! If we want anything more in the future (besides the book deal and the webisode spin-off, that we have luckily already been given–due to the great publicity and fan support) we have to show studios that there is an audience. Our movie IS NOT guaranteed huge box office numbers. What our movie is guaranteed however, is RABID FAN SUPPORT! So much so that the actors in our movie are voting with us.

I just thought this needed to be said, because, while I (and I’m assuming other Marshmallows) are fans of these other movies and books, they have not captured our minds and hearts like Veronica Mars has for the past 10 years. If Veronica Mars wasn’t in this competition, rest assured, I’d be voting for the other films.
