abu sayyaf

  • The U.S. military announced Friday that it has dispatched special forces to the Philippines to aid in the destruction of Abu Sayyaf, an ISIS-linked radical Islamic group which has rampaged throughout the southern island of Mindanao in recent years, NBC News reported.
  • Filipino forces have been fighting to purge Abu Sayyaf from Marawi City, where in May rebel fighters stormed a cathedral and took hostages after attacking various other locations throughout the city.
  • According to Reuters, Flipino military sources said the U.S. military was providing technical support, including a P3 Orion surveillance plane, but had no boots on the ground. Read more. (6/10/17, 1:57 PM)

DISCLAIMER: Most of the information here came from personal accounts of people inside Marawi City.

PLEASE signal boost this! I know there are many things happening right now, especially with what happened with Ariana’s concert. But this is really scary and there’s not enough information on it.

Marawi Siege update (from what I’ve heard in the news):

  • 42 teachers that were held hostage have been rescued by government troops.
  • No news yet about the status of the priest and other civilian parishioners (2 of which were students) who were taken from St. Mary Church.
  • A teacher from Mindanao State University has also been held hostage.
  • The spreading news about the 3 beheaded teachers also remained unconfirmed.
  • Marawi residents are now being evacuated from the area.
  • Whole Mindanao is under Martial Law for 60 days.
  • 2 soldiers and 1 police officer were killed and 12 more are wounded from Marawi clash (please pray for them and their families).
  • Davao is no longer on lockdown but is under “hold-and-secure-situation”.
  • Metro Manila is now on full alert as well.
  • Marawi City Jail, St. Mary’s Church, Ninoy Aquino School and Dansalan College were all burned down by the militants
  • 107 inmates were freed from the City Jail.

Additional note: Marawi was NOT attacked by ISIS but by local terrorist groups Maute and Abu Sayyaf. Maute group is known supporter of ISIS but no confirmed direct link with the ISIS.

Lastly, to everyone in Marawi City and the whole Mindanao. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Be strong. Be safe.

World Peace

Except maybe for Saif al-Adel (of Al-Qaeda) because he still has to avenge the death of his boss, everybody dreams of world peace. Yes, you observant you, the operative word is “dream”.

We all know it won’t happen. I mean, we were able to prosper as a species because we killed the Neanderthals so that’s hardly a reassuring start, right? The reptilian dinosaurs didn’t die out, they just developed brains and two feet. It’s only a matter of time before we blow ourselves up with some nuclear holocaust or if you trust the conspiracy theorists a blackhole starting somewhere in France.

To be fair, some humans really believe in the inevitability of world peace, most of them pretty with a crown on their heads and they call themselves Ms. Universe/ World/ International/ Earth/ Barangay Maligaya etc. Beauty and brains may not go together in a lot of situations but who says you need brains? I believe there’s hope somewhere because people like Ms. Universe/ World/ International/ Earth/ Barangay Maligaya say there is. End of discussion.

Seriously, how has Peace fared on Earth?

In Iraq, just yesterday, four soldiers were wounded in a bomb attack in Fallujah City. Meanwhile, Taliban again made their presence felt in Afghanistan killing 35 people and wounded another 20. It’s considered as the worst single attack in months. Moscow airport was bombed early this year, possibly linked to the militants from the Caucasus region.  Gaddaffi continues clinging to power in Libya even with the NATO practically bombing his family tree to smithereens. China has barred journalists in covering protest for fear of the Jasmine revolution happening in Beijing. Uganda’s Kill the Gays Bill is now back in the legislative agenda and will be voted soon. And then you have the Philippines with three renegade groups (Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah and Rahah Sulaiman) threatening to bomb major installations. They consider buses as major installations.

There’s some good news though. Sudan has opted for a creation of a Southern Sudan in the hopes of lessening the carnage between groups. Kim Jong Il will prolly die soon to be replaced by Kim Jong Un who is reportedly less of a psychopath than his father. Egypt and Tunisia are slowly finding their murky way towards true democracy. Osama Bin Laden was killed in a surgical attact by US Marines, putting Pakistan into great shame though. Facebook, Twitter and Wikileaks are now as powerful as ever.

In the end, we still have a long way to go in achieving Peace obviously. But if you believe Family Radio, we only have two hours to go before god blows our world apart and finally achieving Peace. Although not the kind of peace we want.

What better way to end this except to say: WORLD PEACE!

oh dear god, Mr. President. Are you really that stupid?

Gawd. Did you think Hitler and Mussolini were defeated by peace talks? Did you think the UN would be established without World War II?

History has stated that peace is always preceded by war. Therefore, Fight fire with fire. Go all out against the rebels and terrorists. Our military is much more advance than them. Beat the shit out of them like…

It’s only been a year since P-Noy’s presidency. I have to say, there was not much progress. Very disappointing..

I will fortify the moral high ground. People will attack me with stories about Abu Ghraib and the killing of Filipino civilians a hundred years ago by American troops, actions which I cannot defend. And I will respond that my troops can build a school, or fix a little girl’s cleft palate in a MEDCAP, whereas all the guerrillas of Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah can offer is a suicide vest. I will build my fortress on deeds, because I know that the only force protection I have is the goodwill of civilians. All the guns in the world won’t keep an IED from going off.

Rodrigo Duterte loves bashing the US — but he also loves US troops fighting terrorists for him
Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte has had no problems bashing the United States. “The special forces, they have to go,” Duterte said in September last year, just months after he assumed office. Instead, his government has asked US special operations forces to help end a siege by the Abu Sayyaf Group, ISIS’s allied group in the southern Filipino island of Mindanao, that has already claimed more than 300 lives in the city of Marawi. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte just threatened to eat ISIS militants
According to the South China Morning Post, on Wednesday night Duterte directed the threat at Abu Sayyaf, an ISIS-affiliated group with a stronghold in the southern island of Mindanao, after the group beheaded two Vietnamese sailors. Known for launching a bloody war on drugs that has killed more than 7,000 people, Duterte has made outrageous comments in the past. Recently, Duterte has been struggling with the growing presence of ISIS-affiliated militants in his country. Read more

hi, i would like to know why duterte is such a problematic public figure? its not that i do not agree, its just that i do not keep up with the news as much so i barely have anything to base on when i try to tell people how duterte isnt a good president. I would like specific things he has and hasnt done with sources. Im hoping to make an editorial article for our campus newspaper.

Here are a few sources you could start on:

TLDR: He supports extrajudicial killings. He has no respect for women. He bullshits foreign relations. He kisses the asses of the Daeshbags that are the Abu Sayyaf. He can’t follow his own laws. He pretends to be less fortunate instead of admitting that he has wealthy friends and that he’s rich enough to pay for a private plane, go home to Davao every weekend without using public funds (when you do that, it means that you have your vast resources to make it happen, mind you, trips from Manila to Mindanao are not cheap) and sending all his kids to one of the most prestigious private schools in his city (mind you, none of his kids are products of state universities or those “low tier” private schools)

He also claims to be against drug criminals when he just displayed leniency to drug offenders (particularly the rich ones) in two instances:

Sampai disini, koreksi jika saya salah.

Eh, tapi orang Indonesia kan sukanya memang menyalahkan ya?

Ngerti nggak maksud saya? nggak ngerti? Yaudah lupakan, kita lanjut saja.
