About pretentious broadway blogs
In my early blogging days when I was just starting Avenue Q (my first show), I got anonymous hate. Because I was into theatre but really didn’t know many shows at the time. I was going through cast lists and listening to as many as I could because hey, musicals are awesome! But there’s a lot of them and it’s hard to catch up (I’m still trying to). And the fact that I was being told that I couldn’t enjoy what became my favorite thing in the world because I didn’t know enough shows or had never done a show before hurt.
Why? Because people were saying I couldn’t do something for a totally bullshit reason. It doesn’t matter which shows you know or like. If you like theatre, you like theatre. Being told you “don’t really like it” because you haven’t listened to or seen a certain amount of shows is really incredibly dumb. So please stop.
AND ALSO PEOPLE THAT ARE NEW TO THEATRE CAN STILL BE AMAZING ACTORS/SINGERS/DANCERS AND CAN BECOME BRILLIANT AND GO TO COLLEGE FOR THEATRE AND MAYBE EVEN GET ONTO BROADWAY. THAT SAME PERSON WHO INITIALLY “DIDN’T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT IT”.
So shut up.
