Summary: When Pidge’s birthday rolls around, Allura remembers her offhand comment about liking peanut butter. Little did she know that Lance is actually very, very allergic. (angst and fluff, and a bit of established klance because I have no self control and I ship it leave me alone)

When Allura called the Paladins into the kitchen, Lance expected some sort of emergency.

Why they’d be meeting in the kitchen, he had no idea, but he slid out of bed regardless. After removing his face mask he padded out into the hall, slightly resentful that he didn’t have time to straighten his hair.

Lance nearly bumped into Hunk in the hallway, who was also still in pajamas. The two were the last to arrive in the kitchen. He surveyed the others and found Shiro in full armor, Keith with an activated bayard, and Pidge rubbing the sleep out of her eyes with a laptop tucked under her arm.

“Princess, we’ve talked about this,” Lance grumbled. “You have got to stop interrupting my beauty sleep.”

Shaving 101: ultimate guide for extra sensitive skin.

Ladies gather up. For years I’ve suffered from ultra sensitive skin especially around my bikini area and inner thighs. I know a lot of you deal with the same problems so I’m making a very extensive post about NATURAL and SKIN FRIENDLY ways to combat these issues as well as share my personal shaving routine.

Firstly let me clear this up: DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, PUT ALCOHOL OR DEODORANT ON THESE SENSITIVE AREAS.

I’ve seen many posts online about girls that use alcohol as a toner, or apply cream deodorant and Nivea aftershave balm to prevent razor bumps. While these products will help alleviate the symptoms they will harm your skin in the long run. So stay away!

In my experience there are two types of problems:

Immediate: these appear during or directly after shaving. (Pain during shaving, cuts, irritation)

Post shave: these appear hours or days after shaving (irritation, bumps, ingrown hairs)

So let’s take it from the start.

Baths and soaks: now this is not a totally necessary step but soaking in warm water prior to shaving will help soften both the skin and the hair and provide a more pleasant experience.

Avoid using any body wash or bubble bath as it will disturb your ph levels and is especially unhealthy for your vagina.
Prefer ingredients like salts(detoxifies, provides minerals), baking soda(detoxifies), apple cider vinegar (balances ph), herbs & teas (soften skin, smooth, hydrate, calm and so on), milk (hydrates skin, mildly exfoliates, softens), honey (hydrates, softens)

Exfoliation: this is an essential step if you suffer from ingrown hair and additionally helps give a closer shave.

You have a few different options. You can either use a glove/loofah/mitt/sponge or a scrub

Again avoid commercial scrubs as the chemicals in them are extremely unnecessary and unhealthy for your skin. Invest in a quality natural product or create your own with ingredients you already have in your kitchen in the fraction of the time and cost.

A simple scrub recipe I enjoy:

Sugar (brown or white)
Oil (I use coconut but any oil will work)
Lemon juice
Lemon zest

Add the desired amount of sugar in a container or mixing bowl. Put in the zest. Slowly pour in the oil until all sugar granules are coated but not saturated in it. Finally add the lemon juice until you reach the desired consistency.

Both the lemon juice and lemon zest are completely optional. The juice helps lighten any marks while the zest gives a refreshing smell.
You can substitute cinnamon and vanilla extract for a sweet, more wintery smell or just leave it plain.

Use the sugar scrub around your kitty but be extremely cautious not to get it inside as it might cause imbalances and yeast infections.

Do not substitute salt for sugar as it’s too harsh and will sting during shaving.

DO NOT USE BABY OIL. I can’t even believe that this is a product intended for babies! The ingredients are disgusting and extremely harmful.

Here’s why:

“Traditional baby oil is typically mineral oil, a petroleum-based ingredient. Mineral oil coats the skin just like a plastic wrap and messes with your baby’s natural immune barrier. This inhibits the skin’s ability to breathe and compromises its capacity to release toxins.”

Keep it away from you and your coochie.

Shave: if you chose a scrub just rinse off the granules with lukewarm water but DO NOT wash off the oil. It will protect your skin from the blades and prevent burns, cuts, irritation and discomfort. If you are using an oil free option to exfoliate you will need to apply oil afterwards. (Again choose the oil that suits you best.)

Choose a men’s razor with four blades (My favorite is Gillette fusion pro glide) and change the blades often.

Typically the oil is more than enough. If though you have supah sensitive skin and especially if you are shaving for a second day in a row you might wanna try shaving UNDERWATER. Yes you read that right. This method saved me!! Just sit as comfortably as you can in the tub and submerge the parts you want to shave in the warm water WITH THE OIL ON and shave.

Aftercare: use a gentle body wash to remove the oil from your body and a feminine wash or plain water to rinse your kitty.

Use a clean towel and pat the shaved areas dry.

I use alcohol free witch hazel as a toner on the areas where I’m prone to breakouts and bumps to naturally and gently disinfect the skin and close the pores. You can also mix apple cider vinegar with water in a 1:3 ratio and use that instead.

As a second step I like to slather on some aloe Vera gel to hydrate and smooth the skin.

Once it’s soaked I top everything off with some natural aftershave balm (my favorite is the bulldog original aftershave balm, it’s super cheap and all natural)

The following days: you can apply some moisturizer or oil with a few drops of tea tree oil on the areas where you get razor bumps and post shave breakouts to eliminate them. I like to use Aloe Vera gel consistently to moisturize and smooth sensitive areas.

I've read your posts on female armor, and it really helped me with designing armor for my female superhero, but I have a concern: would wearing a flat breastplate inhibit a well-endowed woman? It almost seems like it would make it hard for her to breathe, especially if she's bigger and taller than average (my character stands at 6' 2")

That… is an anime gag.

There are medical conditions which can cause this, but if there’s breathing issues then that’s a clothing issue and if the armor is causing you to be short of breath then… the armor is useless and not doing its job.

Corsets and any sort of binding that doesn’t allow the lungs/chest cavity/ribs/diaphragm to expand will cause shortness of breath in… either gender. It is historically more common in women because of, well, fashion. You didn’t need to be well-endowed to fall prey to the whale-bone corsets of the 18th century. (Which also led to miscarriages.)

The argument you’re referring to is one common among fanboys, primarily as a justification for boobplate and the fetishistic armor choices for female superheroes. For all it’s claims to realism, it has zero bearing on reality.

The weight of your boobs doesn’t make you short of breath or hamper your ability to breathe. It can, in some cases, be painful during high energy activities when they’re bouncing around but the solution is called a sports bra. (Besides, big boobs can disappear fast depending on the type of activity. You ever seen runners or professional female athletes in almost… well, anything? Muscle burns fat, and your chest muscles will start with your chest. No fat, they shrink.)

The Most Common Superpower joke is that women get to keep theirs and stay conventionally attractive when engaging in highly aerobic activity.

If we want to start with the issue in the presentation of female action heroes it begins here. (And that men, and some women, usually don’t understand how breasts work.) Or have this idea the issue has never been addressed because women don’t participate in sport activity anyway.

Breasts. Are. Just. There.

She’s a superhero. Her armor is custom designed. If whoever made her armor didn’t take into account the size of her chest or provide support then they are crappy at their job and armor design in general.

The issues we run into with armor is when it is either:

A) Not yours. Or..

B) One size fits all, but you’d still be able to function in it.

If you can’t move in the armor then that’s an issue that needs to be addressed at a design level but it’s not insurmountable. This is why armorers and tailors exist.

Besides, if the other option you’re considering is boob plate then that wouldn’t solve the issue. I guarantee boob plate is more uncomfortable, and will guide weapon points straight to your heart. This is an argument I’ve seen brought up a lot (by men) to justify the existence of boobplate or going without armor for “realism”. It is not only BS, it’s annoying. It ignores both reality (female combatants of history) and human ingenuity to prop up outdated sexism. It’s like they think female athletes never address the issues of their chest size. Well, I’m here to tell you: we already solved this one and it’s called a sports bra. In the real world, we get a bras that are designed to support the weight of our boobage during athletic activities.

Women can, however, STILL RUN without problems with a regular bra or even no support at all.

You, however, may want to address the underlying sexism nipping at your approach to this character. If you genuinely believe cramming big breasts into a tactical vest is going to cause breathing issues then you’ve got a lot of your own to work out. That is also the problem with sexism. The misinformation is so baked into every bit of common knowledge meant to justify a certain sexist approach then held up as realistic that most people never think about it.

Again, the kind of breathing issues we’re talking about come from corsets and not armor. A corset tightens your waist, and will result in issues because of the diaphram/stomach can’t expand. When performing aerobic exercise, you need your diaphragm (thus expanding your ribs) to breathe. The diaphragm allows more air to pass through your body, which means more oxygen in your blood being carried to your muscles. Without them, you’re stuck breathing entirely with your upper chest, and that will be a problem when engaging in athletic activity. If the expansion of the chest is also cut off, then… you’re really up a creek. This is what causes the fainting fits of the 18th century. Women wearing clothing that doesn’t allow them to draw enough oxygen into their bodies to keep their brains cognizant.

It’s also why you never want to bind your breasts with anything like Ace bandages because Ace bandages are designed to continually constrict around an injury and create pressure to halt the blood flow. They can tighten so much that they crack the breastbone or the ribcage, and that is what causes shortness of breath rather than the breasts themselves being bound.

You don’t get this problem if you bind with just cloth, but it’s also shit for support.

Breathing issues are a problem for men when they wear clothing styles that ensure their diaphragms can’t expand or just don’t breathe with their diaphragm when fighting.

If her armor causing shortness of breath then that’s not armor, it’s fetish gear. It may be great for a bondage session but it’s not meant to be worn combat. (And if what she’s wearing is causing shortness of breath anyway, then she just needs to stop wearing it. That’s still the fault of her clothing and not her breasts.)

Besides, a woman with large breasts would have issues finding bras that fit her anyway and would probably be specially ordering them. Most malls and sports stores have bras for A, B, C, and some D but not a lot. DD’s can have trouble finding comfortable breastwear, especially ones in the six foot range.

Any way to get your breath back after getting winded? And I mean like, getting hit hard enough in the back or stomach that the wind gets knocked out of you and you can't breathe for almost a minute. I had it happen to me as a kid and nearly fainted, and I can't be sure whether or not me smacking my own back actually helped or not.

So, what happens when the wind gets knocked out of you is that all the air in your lungs is forcibly ejected from your body. (Literally, the wind gets knocked out of you.) The only way to recover from that is to get the wind back into your body, and that is all posture.

When we’re winded, our first instinct is often to lean over. You’re breathing heavily, your back gets tired, and you just hang there. (Basically what happens when you get punched in the gut, except the gut punch is the more severe version.) This is one of those bad instincts because it keeps you from getting that air.

You’ve got to get yourself upright and breathing, get the oxygen back into your lungs. The oxygen goes from your lungs to your blood to your tired muscles including your new injuries in the abdominal muscles and that’s what helps you recover.

You’ve got to straighten, open your chest, and force yourself to take long, deep, controlled breaths with your diaphragm. Your body won’t want to do that. It’s gonna hurt. Your body is going to want to stay bowled over. However, when you’re hanging there your ability to breathe is negligible. You won’t get enough air into your lungs for it to matter. Unless you’re doing a sport or practicing martial arts they’re not going to tell you how important breathing is.

One of the first things they will teach you in any martial art is how to breathe. Most people breathe using either their lungs or their stomach, you don’t do either. You breathe with your diaphragm. The faster you get air back into your body then the faster you recover. (This works in the short term too, the more oxygen you get into your lungs then the faster that gets to your muscles which helps them recover. If you cannot breathe then you cannot fight for long periods, or perform any sport. That hissing sound you often hear in martial arts movies that lots of people make fun of? That’s them breathing. The kihap is also breathing. They’ve trained their bodies to exhale on the strike, which negates the chance of having the wind knocked out of you when you’re hit in the stomach.) The more we work out and practice at this then the stronger our lungs get and the better we become at breathing.

Breathing is a learned skill.

The best part about rigorous physical exercise is that you’re used to being out of breath so you learn to work through it, recover faster, and get back in the game. Practice is how you get your breath back.

Basically, you had to straighten in order to smack your back which is what let you recover your breath.
