reconnecting with what was never there || kanika + anahita

timestamp; 14th August 2017

location; Kanika’s penthouse

general notes; completely SFW.

Kanika ran her fingers through her hair one last time, her eyes running over her outfit; she was wearing a boyfriend shirt (quite literally - it was Aditya’s old blue dress shirt) with the sleeves rolled up and the top three buttons undone, she had paired it with her favorite black skinny jeans and topped the look with her standard gold chain which instead of a pendant housed her wedding ring.

“Aayat? Someone’s coming to meet you, chalo chalo - take off that apron,” she ordered her daughter before crouching down to her eye-level and pulling off the apron, smoothing down her daughter’s dress when the doorbell rang.

Aayi,” she yelled, letting her voice carry through the house.

Are we heading towards Jannah or Jahannum?

Narrated Ali (radiallah-anhu), we were in the company of Rasuloolah (SAAS) and he said, “there is none among you but has his place written for him either in paradise or in hell fire.”
We said, O Allah’s messenger! shall we depend on this fact and give up doing work/doing good deeds (because our places are already decided?).
He replied, “No! carry on doing good deeds, for everybody will find easy to do good deeds if he has Jannah (paradise) written for him, and easy to do bad deeds if Jahannum (hell) is his final destination. Then the prophet recited the 5 aayat of surah al layl. [Sahih al bukhari, 6/4947]

The message of this hadith is very clear alhmdulilah. If we are compelled to commit sins or if the sins are easier for us to do than avoiding them, then it’s obvious where we are heading to.
Though we are aware that we must never give up hope on Allah’s mercy but know that Allah is capable of punishing us too.
Love and fear of Allah must go hand in hand. Balanced, such that the love (hope) of/from Allah shouldn’t surpass the fear of Allah, and vice versa.
Don’t always stick to his merciful attribute (for eg, assuming we shall be forgiven despite of committing sins) such that you forget he is capable of punishing you. And do not fear him to an (extreme) extent such that you forget he is a merciful Lord. So balance it well and remind yourselves of this hadith before you commit any deed in your life.

Adhkar before sleeping

It says in a mu’allaq report narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari (2311) that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) appointed me to guard the zakaah of Ramadaan, then someone came and started rummaging in the foodstuff … and at the end of the hadeeth he said: “When you go to your bed, recite Aayat al-Kursiy, for there will remain with you a guardian from Allaah, and no devil will approach you, until morning comes.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “He told you the truth although he is a liar. That was a devil.”

It was narrated from Abu Mas’ood al-Ansaari (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5009) and Muslim (2714). Ibn al-Qayyim said in al-Waabil al-Sayyib (132): They will suffice him against any evil that may harm him.

It was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed every night, he would hold his hands together and blow into them, and recite into them Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad, Qul a’oodhu bi rabb il-falaq and Qul a’oodhu bi rabb il-naas. Then he would wipe them over whatever he could of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body, and he would do that three times. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5017).
