Why we didn’t get a Black Widow and Captain Marvel movie sooner
The reason is quite simple, it’s not because Kevin Feige is sexist or anything like that.
Everything is the fault of the this man:
This guy is known as a frugal money spender. He didn’t want Robert Downey Jr. to be in Captain America Civil War.
(I don’t think he knows how comic book movie works. Civil War without Iron Man is like grill cheese without cheese. It just doesn’t work.)
The argument between him and Kevin Feige led to Marvel Studios separating themselves from Marvel Entertainment and becoming their own independent studio in 2015.
In the early script of Iron Man 3, the villain was supposed to be a woman but he didn’t want to because he was afraid it wasn’t going to sell enough toys. That’s also why we never see a Black Widow and other female characters action figure among the marketing toys.
When the Sony leak emails happened in 2015, we actually learned that he didn’t like the idea of a female superhero movie. He said that movies like Supergirl, Elektra and Catwoman failed not because they were bad movies on their own, but because the lead characters were women.
Side note: He is friend with Donald Trump so we could say that a friend of Donald Trump is not a friend of progress. I wouldn’t be surprise if he was against a Black Panther movie.
HE IS BASICALLY A MISOGYNISTIC ASSHOLE
I just don’t understand why he would work at Marvel at all. Marvel is knows to be a house of progress. It was the first comic book company to put a gay wedding on the cover of an issue.
It’s not like Feige didn’t want to make a female superhero movie. He kept pushing for a Black Widow movie. And Captain Marvel was supposed to appear in Age of Ultron but Feige decided against it because he wanted to introduce her properly in her own movie.
Even if Marvel didn’t give us those movies, they still give us a great tv show with a female superhero, Jessica Jones in 2015. They also give us Luke Cage, a superhero tv show with an all black cast in 2016. (We could say it was an appetizer for Black Panther coming in 2018.)
Some DC fans will say that WB/DC beat Marvel in that department even thought it’s true, I would say: That just make the competition more interesting. WB/DC made the blue print, now Marvel has to learn from that and make an even better film.
And let’s not forget that in Hollywood it’s very hard to make a movie. Black Panther was in developement for practically 20 years. So patience.
You can bet your ass that after the success of Captain Marvel they will put more female superhero movies into production. They are planning an A-Force and Miss Marvel movie with Kamala Khan. I’m quite sure that Shuri will be The Black Panther in Avengers 4 or future films.
