So far, 63 people have lost their lives due to wildfire in Portugal, including firefighters. Some died trapped in their cars trying to escape the fire, others due to smoke inhalation. The temperature right now in Portugal is somewhere between 45°C/113ºF. A different combination of factors are making it very difficult for firefighters to put out the fire, including the amount of smoke in the air makes it impossible for canadairs to help.
The images are absolutely awful and heartbreaking. Listening to survivours and the families of the victims is heartbreaking. There are civilians finding burned corpses in the woods that have burned. Just minutes ago they confirmed that a family that was being searched died in the fire, that’s a mother, a father and two small children. Another man talked to the media reporting that he saw his wife and two daughters dying, trapped inside the car. Another little boy who was vacationing with his aunt and uncle, died while his parents were away on honeymoon. Dozens of families are completely destroyed. It’s a complete tradegy!
The firefighters need help. They not even asking for food supplies at this point. They are in more need of medical supplies.
This is the official account number for donations if you want/can help all the people who lost everything they owned and the firefighters. The money will go entirely for the victims and the firefighters.
Daisuga: Whatever you do don’t think about Daichi standing at the end of an alter right beside suga as his best man. As he watches suga get married off to a cute woman, Daichi slowly dies in the inside.
Asanoya:Don’t think of how Noya runs into Asahi at the shops long after graduation and they rekindle their old relationship and Noya thinks he’s got a chance until Asahi invites him to dinner with his son and wife.
Tsukkiyama:Don’t imagine Tsukkishima and Yamaguchi getting together during school but drifting apart when college hits. Their feelings never change but when Tsukki goes to visit it Yamaguchi he is struck with the news that his best friend took his own life, self doubt consuming his soul.
Kagehina:Don’t think of how as the two grew closer together Hinata grew closer to Kageyama’s younger sister and eventually marries her and Kageyama thinks he’s fine being friends but the guilt eventually gets to him and soon kags joins Yamaguchi.
Ennotanna:Don’t begin the thought of Ennoshita crushing on Tanaka in high school but knowing that tanaka is so out of reach that this angst propells him to direct award Winning movies fueled by tradegy. And no matter how many awards he wins it never fills the Tanaka shaped hole in his heart.
Kinonari:Don’t ponder over the fact of Narita and Kinoshita who were so in love yet so over being forgotten, invisible to those around them. This makes them quit volleyball and run away never to be known the whereabouts of untill the team gets a message, they’re the first to go.
Iwaoi: Don’t think of these two sharing a kiss before separating to different colleges and doing their best to stay in touch but instead slowly their calls and text become less frequent and ‘Iwa-Chan❤’ is all but a mere contact that lays on the bottom of Oikawas call history.
Kuroken: Don’t begin thinking of Kenma and Kuroo pining after each other for years but an argument about something causes them to never speak again. This makes them go quiet for years leading Kenma to go into depression and when Kuroo gets the guts to speak to Kenma again he finds that his closest friend had dissapeared from the world never to be seen again.
Bokuaka: Don’t think of Bokuto going emo in college and Akaashi isn’t around to pick him up, not because Bokuto is in college and Akaashi is in high school, but because Akaashi and his family had moved all the way abroad. This causes Bokuto to slowly fall into insanity.
Matsuhana: No matter what don’t think of these two casually walking through the city laughing at jokes and old memories at night holding hands. When a drunken driver in a truck loses control heading straight towards the two. In the rush Makki pushes Mattsun away sacrificing himself. Leaving Mattsun alone.
Whatever you do, don’t imagine these guys losing their other halfs with my angsty headcanons but instead read fluffy fanfiction instead. (Why am I doing this)
And I’m too young to feel so much pain,
but the bruises of life I’ve carried for a long time,
the pain started in my mind and
Spread to my chest,
where it emerged from the cavity,
snapping my ribs to make it
out into the air
where it festered and grew
Into a tragedy.
I was once the child who saw magic in everything
In a young age i let people destroy me, i was weak
and the war in my mind began
And yet i see magic, at the same time i see everything so deeply
And now i wear my tragedies as my armor
i’m stronger than i will ever be
Thank you @lexinthymia for tagging me again! I wanted to limit this to one character per series; it was hard but here we are! Also, I will admit that some of these choices are not only based on the anime these character were in, but also what happened to them later on the manga (if the anime stopped at a certain point). I probably went into more detail about each of these guys then I needed to and their will be some spoilers for certain series, but I love talking about them!
Honourable mention who didn’t make it on to the list: Kaneki Ken (Tokyo Ghoul), D (Vampire Hunter D), Karou Hitachiin and Tameki Suoh (Ouran Highschool Host Club), Germany (Hetalia), Ling Yao (Fullmetal Alchemist), and a whole smattering of characters from BLEACH.
10. Kiyosama ‘Crow’ Senji - Deadman Wonderland
Senji’s the biggest badass in the whole series and had some of the best fights. I love his character arc and how he basically become an older brother-figure to Ganta; their friendship has become on of my favourite BROTPs ever. It also helps that he’s voiced by Patrick Seitz, one of my favourite voice actor of all time.
9. Vash the Stampede - Trigun
There are very few characters that can be badass one minute and an absolute goofball the next without it feeling jarring to me. Vash is one of these few, and he’s brilliant because of it. All of his actions, whether they’re serious or comedic, make sense to his character - his mystery and loneliness is as much a part of him as his eccentricities and obsession with donuts. And he has a awesome character design to boot!
8. Johan Liebert - Monster
Johan is such a masterfully crafted character, to the point where you can feel his presence even when he is off panel/screen. He’s present in everyone of the character actions, the puppet master behind the scenes. There’s also his intriguing relationship with his twin Nina, which brings out the very few sympathetic parts of him. He’s low on the list because I haven’t finished either the anime or manga yet,
and while I definitely don’t ‘love’ him in any sense, but he’s somehow both captivating and distrubing all at once.
I can’t wait to see how his character unfolds.
7. Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist
I had a hard time choosing between Edward and Ling Yao, but in the end I chose Ed because of how much development he went through. He’s inspiring in a lot of ways, with his steadfast determination and his relateable moral dilemmas, and he’s also one of the few characters that can be badass one minute and an absolute dork the next without it be jarring or taking away from his character. The bonds he shares with everyone only made me like him even more likeable and relateable, especially his relationships with Al, Winry, and Ling.
6. Levi Ackerman - Shingeki no Kyojin
Levi has been through so much tradegy and loss.
I can’t get over his past as a child (the fact he stayed by his mother’s
bedside to the point where he tarved himself and was wearing her shirt,
it makes me tear up every time) and with Farlan and Isabel (the
emotions he diplayed after their deaths…oh God). His more recent
development in the manga was amazing to see: he smiled at his comrades,
learned more about his past, and the explosive rage he showed when he lost
one of the dearest people to him had me in shock and awe. Also, the
animation they put on this guy in both seaons is jaw-dropping a lot of
5. Shigeo ‘Mob’ Kageyama - Mob Psycho 100
My second son! Mob is the heart and soul of this anime: he’s such a kind, likeable, and gentle character who only wants to fit in, make friends, and get the attention of the girl he likes. What I love most about Mob is his will to better himself whichever way he can and the hard work he’s willing to put into that goal. He doesn’t rely on his psychic powers to make friends, but as a result of not fully embracing that part of himself and fearing his own abilities, he haa emotionally hindered himself; it makes him incredibly sympathetic to me (I cried with him when he unintentionally tore the school apart and I cheered when he was reunited with Ritsu).
4. Ayame Sohma - Fruits Basket
This man and his glorious antics. Oh, Ayame…we go back a long way. Everything about this guy is just hilarious: his past as the student council president, his spontaneous displays of affect and drama, and his innuendos with Shigure. He never fails to put a smile on my face whenever he’s on screen! However, his serious moments are great too: they added a lot to him and I was 100% invested in his character arc and development (i.e. trying to reconcil with his actions made in the past and reconnect with his younger brother Yuki).
3. Makoto Sunakawa - Ore Monogatari!!
This guy is the very definition
of ‘bro’. I love how supportive and caring he is towards Takeo. Heck, one
of the highlights of both the anime and manga is the friendship between
Suna and Takeo: Ore Momogatari!! is one of the rare shoujo series that actually
focuses on another type of relationship outside of the main romance. I sense a genuine, platonic love from him to Takeo and vice-versa, and enhance both of them as character and the story as a whole. There’s also the fact he’s perceptive of those around him, often able to tell what kind of person an individual is, and his placid, calming attitude is a nice change of pace for what I usually find in shoujo male characters.
Guts - Berserk
Oh, Guts…Like a lot of character on this list, I love Guts for the fact he’s gone through so much tragedy and still strives forward. Why he’s higher on the list is because his tragedy is still ongoing but he’s moving forward growing as character in such realisitic and painful ways. He has a horrowing, painful past even before he got to the Band of the Hawk, and even after the events of the Eclipse, his life has been anything but a happy. He’s such a deep, magnificently-crafted character, and the closest I’ve seen to a ‘character become a real human in all of anime. Every emotion he expresses feels so real to me (
I have cried for him more time then I can count and I have no word to describe how I felt watching him suffering during the Eclipse), and of course this is helped tremendoul by Miruma’s incredible art. I wish I could say SO MUCH more about him, but we’d be here all day and this post is long enough as is.
I wait freverently for the day he finally confronts Griffith!
1. Toshiro Hitsugaya - BLEACH
Well of course I was going to my fictional son at the top of this list! Okay, in all seriousness though, it’s been a weird journey with Toshiro. I started off being indifferent towards him, but when he revealed other facets of himself through the relationships he had with others (in particular his bond with Hinamori), I really started to like him. And now here we are, eight years later and I love this little guy so much that, as a fan of his, I am so proud of how far he has come. He’s one of the most selfless character I’ve seen, willing to put anything on the line for those he cares about and push himelf to his limit to become stronger…and he’s only a kid (by Shinigami standards)!! I could go on all day about him, but I’ll leave that to my other posts where I’ve talked about his character and development. He, along with Momo, holds a special, nostalgic place in my heart.
Abigail Adams: interracial relationships and immigration.
Everyone loves Abigail Adams, it is not difficult to conclude, and I do as well, however, I am a little concerned by the growing amount of people who seem to believe Abigail never did a single thing wrong in her life. She may of almost not done anything horrid but her views on certain aspects primarily concerning interracial relationships and immigrants are far from it. I have seen quite often historical women not being held accountable for their actions mainly, it seems, because they were women and facing injustices already for their sex. These women still held the same racist, xenophobic or sexist views we point to men of the time. It is a failure to recognize these regards especially those towards Abigail Adams.
While Abigail never owned a slave in her life and was far ahead of her time when it came to the institution–she still was racist. On the 18th of September 1785 penned from her current residence in London while her husband, John Adams served in diplomatic missions, Abigail Adams wrote a letter to her son-in-law William Stephens Smith. Having recently attended a London performance of Othello, Abigail Adams admitted her “disgust and horrour” at seeing the “Sooty” title character “touch the Gentle Desdemona.”
“I was last Evening however at Drury Lane and Saw for the first time Mrs. Siddons… She appeard in the tradegy of Othello, and acted the part of Desdemona. Othello was represented blacker than any affrican… I saw the sooty… [man] touch the fair Desdemona”
After the sentence above, she crossed out this text:
“but I So powerfull was prejudice that I could not seperate the coulour from the Man and by which means”
“That most incomparable Speach of Othellos lost half its force and Beauty, because I could not Seperate the coulour from the Man…”
To her sister, Elizabeth she wrote of the event:
“I lost much of the pleasure of the play from the Sooty appearance of the Moor… I could not separate the affrican colour from the man, nor prevent the disgust and hourror while filld my mind every time I saw him touch Gentle Desmodona.”
As you can see, even Abigail Adams who held a famous abhorrence for enslavement of slavery, still could not find in her self acceptance toward interracial relationships or discover a way she could put the races of these persons aside. Above she goes as far as to admit she could not separate the race from the character and held such a “powerfull” distaste at the performance that it ruined the entire night for her. It filled her with “disgust and hourror” to even witness a black touching a white.
After the Alien and Sedition Acts were striding through Congress during her husband’s presidency, she grew embittered over the published public scorn against him and the Acts. She wrote fervent letters in support of the Alien and Sedition Acts. Until Congress passed a sedition ill, she warned her sister-in-law that nothing would halt the “wicked and base violent and calumniating abuse” of the Republican papers.” She added that in “any other country, Bache [in reference to Benjamin Franklin Bache, grandson of the founder Benjamin Franklin who authored a famous Republican paper titled the Aurora before dying of yellow fever in 1798] and all of his papers would have been seized long ago.”
She hoped the Alien Act would be invoked to out the Swiss-born Republican Albert Gallatin, a leader in the House of Representatives after James Madison’s departure. She considered the immigrant Gallatin a traitor to his country. Abigail also distrusted immigrants, averting that “a more careful and attentive watch ought to be kept over foreigners.”
It is beliefs such as these that I frequently observe being swept under the rug. Abigail Adams was in no way pure and could not locate in herself a way to overlook race nor was she for immigrants, the very thing her country was founded upon.
Once again, thank you @lexinthymia for tagging me, this wa an absolute treat to do. Again, I’m limiting to one per series for fairness and there will be spoilers for some of these series. I admit some of these entries were based on what happened to them in the manga if the anime stopped at a certain point. Also, once again, I probably went into more detail then I needed to with some of these couples, but lets begin!
Honourable mentions that didn’t make the list:
Touken (Tokyo Ghoul), Renruki, Ishihime, Ichihime, and Ginran (BLEACH), Victori (Yuri on Ice!!), Levihan (Shingeki no Kyojin), Royai (Fullmetal Alchmist), Tamaharu and Hikaharu (Ouran Highschool Host Club), Banlaine (Nanatsu no Taizai), Haku x Chihiro (Spirited Away), Hideki x Chii (Chobits), Ayame x Mine and Hatsuharu x Rin (Fruits Basket), Cielizzy (Kuroshitsuji), and Tetsuo x Kaori (Akira).
10. Hana x The Wolfman - Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki
It’s one of the most short-lived romances on the list, but by God it is so heartfelt! It’s the closest thing to the first ten minutes of Up you’ll get in anime form (in terms of how it hits you emotionally). Right off the bat the film made me care about these two so much as a couple and as individuals. The Wolfman is shrouded in mystery, a lonely figure in search of meaning and belonging, and Hana is optimisitic college student, told long ago to always smile in the face of tradegy and sadness. Together they form a quick bond that is genuine, sweet, and heartfelt. The Wolfman’s death was crushing, especially since we are left to piece together the circumstances of his death, and every scene they appear in together afterwards had me sobbing.
9. Kyoru - Fruits Basket
I have to include this pairing. I watched anime when I was really young, but I didn’t seriously get into it until nine years ago. The anime that threw me beyond the point of no return was Fruits Basket. I originally shipped Tohru with Yuki, but Kyo grew on me as a character and as a result so did his relationship with Tohru. The last few epiodes of the anime pretty much solidified them as one of my firt anime ships; but coupled with the events that happened in the manga and they became an unforgettable ship for me.Their relationship initally brought them joy, pain and uncertainty, but in the end, it healed them in almost everyway possible, allowing them both to move on from Kyoko’s death and find happines together.
8. Rock x Revy - Black Lagoon
I’ve only just recently got into Black Lagoon,
but one of the things I love most about the show is the complex relationship between Rock and Revy. The
chemistry between these two
is insane! I love the banter and dialouge they share together, and they’re
of the same coin in a lot of ways - Revy is nihilistic and cynical, while Rock is calculating and always tries to save those in need, even in a place as chaotic and deathly as Roanapur. Their relationship is based on an ironic twist of the ‘getting a second chance at life’ trope for both of them - Revy gave Rock a second chance at life in a hell-hole of a place, and Rock made Revy realise she has another chance to be more then just a drifter in life. Also, that cigarette
kiss is near iconic at this point.
7. Nishikimi - Tokyo Ghoul
You would not believe how hard it was to
choose between Touken and Nishikimi. In the end I went with Nishikimi
because I had keep this list more anime-focused (keep in mind I only saw the
first season of Tokyo Ghoul and bits of the second season) and my love for Touken has stemmed mainly from later chapters in Tokyo Ghoul: re. The moment Nishiki said he would come back from the dead to kill Tsukiyama if he hurt Kimi, I knew I had a new angsty ship to worship. This couple just hit me in the feels every time they’re on-screen
together or when they mention each other when they’re apart. They gave each other a reason to keep living and have shown they will go to the ends of the earth for each other (Nishiki dragging himself, starving and weakened, to Anteiku to search for Kimi, and Kimi willing to give up her flesh to feed Nishiki). Given the events of :Re, I really hope that it ends well for them, I don’t know if my heart could take it otherwise ;_;
6. EdWin - Fullmetal Alchemist
Edward and Winry are practically made for each other, and it was only a matter of time I started shipping them when I Started watchinG Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. They follow a few of the tropes I absolutely adore in romantic relationhips (childhood friend-to-lovers, promises to protect, and the fighter-healer dynamic). Winry was Edward’s healer both physically (she gave him an arm and a leg and repairs them for him) and emotionally, and Edward has been a constant in Winry’s life since she was very young, being their for her when he parents were killed and giving her a reason to put her skills to use. As the series went on, I came love every scene they were in together (of particular mention is when Winry almot hot Scar and their not-so-equivalent exchange moment at the end of the series). Also, the fact Ed might have tried to match her height as a child by using his cow-lick is priceless.
5. Rivetra - Shingeki no Kyojin
Man I wish this gif was actually a scene from the anime. The couple that will never be. Shingeki no Kyojin made it clear from the start that it wouldn’t be pulling any punches when it came to characters’ mortality, but it really hit me when Petra died…and even more so when I saw Levi’s reaction. There was a lot of potential for a relationship to grow between these two; for me they had a lot of chemitry in the moments they were together. As per the trend with quite a few of the couples on this list, they were opposites in a lot of ways, but their differences complimented each other so well. Petra was mother-hen of sorts for the Survey Corp., while Levi was their steel-bound, stoic leader. However, I always felt Petra could see the other part of him many didn’t - that he actually cares about his comrades a great deal and has been through a lot of loss - and Levi always treated her lightly different from the others. It’s a darn shame we didn’t get more moments of them together or find out Levi’s true feeling towards Petra, but regardless, I still ship them for what could have been.
4. Takeo x Rinko - Ore Monogatari!!
the very definition of ‘sweet’!! I just can’t get over how cute, fluffy, and
special their relationhip is. It really helps that they are adorkable
people themselves. Rinko is a kind and sweet girl with a love for
baking and tall, burly men, while Takeo is biggest goofball with
a heart of gold and a strong will to help others.A a result they’re a hugely likeable couple who are so sweet and funny and charming when they’re together. I loved seeing their relationship develop in both the convetional and non-conventional ways of shoujo anime. Also, their character designs just suit each other so, so well!
3. Gutsca - Berserk
I just…oh God, these two! Their relationship is one of the reasons I loved the Berserk anime and continue to read the manga.
I love how a sense of tenderness slowly grew between them, and how they healed each other in small ways when they finally got together. After the Eclipse…oh God, here come the tears again! I don’t want to spoil anything in case anyone of you are reading/watching or want to read/watch Berserk (trust it’s better if you aren’t spoiled for maximum emotional impact), but they’ve been through so much and I desperately want them to have a happy ending together (but this is Berserk, what the chance fo that actually happening? T_T).
2. Tomoya x Nagisa - Clannad & Clannad: After Story
The heart of Clannad is it’s characters and the little adventures
they get up to, but it’s through Tomoya and Nagisa’s relationship that
this all made possible; it is the thread that binds every event and character in the story, including the parallel world with the girl and the robot. These two are incredibly sweet and endearing
together, able to bring the best out of each other, motivate each other
when they’re going through strife, and change each other for the better -
Tomoya came to believe in second chances and see the goodness within
himself because of Nagisa, while Nagisa learned to be more assertive and
gain more self-confidence because of Tomoya. They’re such a likeable and relateable
couple, to the point where fangirled for their moments of joy and sobbed up rivers when sadness or tragedy struck. I love them so much and always will!
1. HitsuHina - BLEACH
This is my only OTP. The only couple that has made me inconsolable after one particular event happened to them. The only couple I have been completely rendered speechless by when I see and think about their bond. The only couple that hold a very special place in my heart. I don’t think I will ever love a ship as much as I love HitsuHina. I have done everything for them that I have never done for any other couple in any other fandom: I have written metas about them, am constantly coming up with fanfic and fanart ideas for them, and once literally sung my praises for them from a rooftop. I can not stress enough how powerful and incredible their bond is: it has survived the worst fo trials and I can practically feel the decades of history between them by just watching them interact. The effect they have on each other is also amazing: Toshiro always endevours to become stronger for Momo’s sake and would do anything for her, and Momo’s bond with Toshiro was strong enough to make her doubt the man she dearly admired. I could sit here all day tell you why I love them so much, but if you’re intereted, I have a whole bunch or ramblings and metas on my blog that can do the job for me.
“To the one who thought that oblivion would bring me peace of mind,
The moment our eyes met, I knew that you too retained your memories. Hence, in this life, we’ll have to live in each of our happy endings, and ignore this tradegy. I pray that in our next life the wait will be short and the meeting shall be long… That we won’t need an excuse to see each other… Entitled with our own dearest names, so we could greet each other when we accidentally run into each other. With our love always being the solution, I pray that we can meet like that. I’m just happy that I saw your face.
Very observant & intuitive people.
They tend to be their own little personal psychologists.
They understand human nature
Tend to be calm in the most unusual times (fighting, tradegy, loss)❓and then loose their cool out of nowhere without reason.
Can be tactless w/ people.
