Why Commenting On FanFiction Is Important

Alright kids, Boo here with a hopefully non-arrogant PSA.

I’m a writer of FanFiction because I like it and it’s my preferred genre (also a great way to receive feedback on writing that I can use on originals, bref). But like with most artistic work posted online, I have very little feedback.

When I was in a slightly writing rut, I cranked one shots left and right, nothing out of the ordinary. But instead of people commenting with their thoughts and good feedback, they just gave me requests.

I don’t think I could ever put into words what that felt like, but I’ll try (the irony of being a writer). It suddenly felt tiring, being a writer, and very quickly I stopped writing altogether. I only ever showed my friend what I wrote and left it at that. I haven’t published anything for a while after. It felt like people were treating me like a mule wanting me to do work for them, and I just wasn’t up for that. I lost my will to write, and then I began to think, “If I post something else other than what was requested, will people even read it?”

Then you get the infamous comments, “You haven’t forgotten about my request right??? Here’s another.”

That just adds anxiety and guilt. I’m purposely ignoring the comments to save my own uncreative ass, at least that’s what it feels like.

After weeks of convincing myself that my stories are worth sharing no matter how many people read them, I started writing and publishing again while working on some longer pieces. Slowly it got better.

Now this week, I remembered I joined another fanfiction platform, and realized I had never published anything on it. I had an idea, and so I started writing. It didn’t come out as I imagined it would, but I was so proud? Like, I started feeling happy about what I created again. Like genuine happiness that I haven’t felt in months since my last published work.

A few hours later, I get this comment:

I cranked out three 3k stories after reading this.

In four days.

It never happened before, and I don’t know how many times it will happen again. It was one comment, but it gave me so much fighting spirit that I think I’m on my way to regaining my initial writer mindset.

Fanfiction writers depend on feedback as a validation that their stories matter to people. If you’re wondering why your favourite author hasn’t updated/posted in a while, ask yourself, “Did I do everything that would convince them to continue writing this?”

Art from the book A Monster Calls written by Patrick Ness and illustrated by Jim Kay.

It’s a children’s book about a boy (Conor) who starts having nightmares about a monster every night since his mother started her cancer treatment. One night when he wakes up, there is an actual monster right outside his window. The monster is a yew tree in the cemetery behind Conor’s house during day-time but the monster we see at night. I wont go into more detail about the story because it’s really worth reading. You might want to have some tissues and ice-cream ready though.

It was inspired by Siobhan Dowd, who passed away due to cancer and could not write this book herself

It doesn’t have to be Spring for you to bloom.
—  It’s been said that Spring is the time of new beginnings. Enjoy it, but make sure to remember that you can have a new beginning any day, any time. // @maxwelldpoetry
You will wake up one day, realizing how tiring life is and hoping for the world to stop spinning and for people to stop talking. Wishing that you’re somewhere else but here. You will love to be out of this universe and imagine for yourself being in a different place. To be in a different situation. You will want to change things and arrange it like your own puzzle. Easily solved. And built in just one second. Things will be hard. And the waves will be stronger. You’ll wish that you don’t have to face it. You’ll try to turn around and run away. But you’ll realize that you cannot escape this—that for you to get through it, you’ll need to lift yourself just to fight it. And when that day comes, darling you’ll have all the courage you’ve been hiding in your heart. You’ll find out how brave you are. You’ll see what is more than that face who is always staring back at you in the mirror. You’ll know that you are capable of more. You’ll then realize, that life won’t give you something you can never take. That failure isn’t something that should put you down and every success is worth every—single—tear that has run out of your eyes. That you are the strongest person you’ll ever know, even if the world tried to make you believe otherwise. Someday, it’ll be all right. Someday, you’ll realize that life is still worth fighting for. That living life is still something we should dream of.

Reylo Fic Recs Part 2

Works in Progress

Hex by @pissbabysithlord For a moment he assumed she was someone’s familiar, but there were few witches in the area. Kylo sincerely doubted any of them would be so cruel as to have their companion fend for themselves in the streets, especially when considering how small she was. Still, there was something undeniably clever about her. He sighed; either way, it was of no consequence to him. Magical AU

anonymous asked:

Hey I don't mean to bother, but I was wondering if you had a list or so of your fav Bellarke fics(AU)? I love all your fics (Bellarke and Stydia) <3 Thanks!

AU?! Oh, man. I assume you mean non-canonverse AU. And I’m not much of an AU reader, but here are a couple of my all-time favs.

Take Me to Church by @hawthornewhisperer | M | priest-in-training!Bellamy is definitely not supposed to develop feelings for the girl he goes running with in the mornings. And they probably shouldn’t have sex either. He knows this, and yet. (link to all 6 chapters in the link)

I Choose You by winterwaters | M | 17k | Clarke’s a society girl who doesn’t want to get married, despite her mother’s wishes, but then a farmer shows up, with a deal that intrigues her. (I’m an arranged marriage AU hoe and this one is so sweet. I’ve read it like a bedtime story many times.)

Worth the Trouble and Worth the Pain by @ponyregrets | T | 6k | Princess Clarke has one year to get married. Her personal guardsman is not pleased about the situation, but there’s not a lot he can do.

like ships in the night (passing me by) by viansian | T | 11k | He met her seven different times. Once when she was a child, twice on her deathbed and four times in between. (Alternatively, The Fic Where He’s Immortal and She’s Not)

I Make My Own Luck by somethingofatrainwreck | M | 23k | Poker Night was simple enough. Show up at Clarke’s every Thursday night. BYOB (no cans, always bottles), turn your phones off, don’t get in the middle when Mom and Dad start to bicker, never mention Mt. Weather, and for the love of God don’t bring any randos…It was simple. It really was. The thing about rules though? People can’t help but break them.aka five times someone ruined Poker Night and the one time all bets were off.

i’ve seen love go by my door (it’s never been this close before) by safeandsound13 | M | 5k | Every story begins somewhere, usually with a shared look from across the room and the exchange of names. Theirs starts with an abduction and a set of handcuffs. Or, the less fancy version of it: Clarke and Bellamy plan Murphy’s death while being cuffed to a bathroom sink. (this is kinda a crack fic, kinda just really funny, and i love the author so lemme throw it in there)

Keep Your Enemies Closer by PaintedGhostOrchid | NR | 51k |  Bellamy and Clarke are co-workers and bitter rivals who live to compete with one another and can barely be civil- at least, until their respective partners start having an affair and Clarke and Bellamy have no choice but to team up to win back their cheating lovers. (I have a massive boner for this one, don’t even ask why because idk.)

Then suddenly, you met someone who told you the same story. Who told you about the same path you’ve walked through. And this time, you truly listened. You looked at them in the eyes while all the memories started coming back from the past. Suddenly you were like listening to an old song. You were like seeing an old scene you thought you have already forgotten. You were like in the darkness again. A darkness that was surrounded by voices you thought will never exist again. You were like watching an old movie. The one you don’t want to witness anymore. You’re hearing the same story from a different person. This time, the tears and sobs were not coming from you. It’s from someone you haven’t known when the same story happened to you. It was the same, yes, but still different. Because this time, you already understand. This time, you knew why it has to happen that way. This time, you were different. Because you already learned the lessons behind that story. And it’s time for you to try telling that someone how you overcome passing along that obstacle you thought you can never get through.

To anyone who hasn’t read Skip beat: please read Skip Beat.

  • It’s about a girl who gets into the showbiz industry to exact revenge upon a bastard who used her and played with her heart.
  • It’s a wonderful story about a girl learning how to love herself before anything else.
  • The female protagonist is so very talented and so very strong.
  • On her journey to self discovery she makes new friends and enemies.
  • Almost all the women in the series are hardcore feminists who value their work and career over their love-life.
  • All the characters have amazing depth to them, and the emotions are very realistic.
  • The female protagonist is a hardcore badass that could possibly kill a man and still look cute doing it.
  • So is the male protagonist.
  • Hilarious and inspiring side characters.
  • Seriously the complexity of the characters is mind-blowing.
  • It has unique humour which will keep you laughing the whole night.
  • It also has angsty scenes that will make you cry.
  • It has good slow romance which is completely torturous.
  • Has fluff so sweet it’ll rot your teeth.
  • The plot is unique and quite frankly a masterpiece.
  • Basically Skip Beat! has all the elements of an excellent story.
  • Nakamura-sensei (the mangaka) literally planned out everything from the first chapter to the last, so there’s a lot of foreshadowing, which is really cool, and so the story is very grounded.
  • It also has an anime for those who prefer watching over reading.

Literally the only downside to this manga is the unattractive art style in the beginning, which later on gets better and trust me, the story is so worth it. So please read Skip Beat.

anonymous asked:

Can you give us some book recommendations?

Okay book recs. Oh my god I have so many. I have a question after this that say’s POC book recs, so I’m going to keep this post to book recs that arent poc to keep these separated just for the sake of the anon’s that asked.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown (Trilogy with a new book - a ‘spin off series’ coming out next year) - I will fucking promote this book series until I die. This is hands down, one of the best books I have EVER read. Honestly, for me it sort of beats out Harry Potter (Which if you know me, I’m obsessed with. I mean, I had a Harry Potter Sweet 16. [I’m from Long Island. Everyone there has a Sweet 16]) Not only is Red Rising extremely diverse and beautifully written,  but the storyline is incredible and the characters literally jump off the page. I dont think I’ve ever read a more human character than Darrow. Honestly PICK UP THIS BOOK. IT NEEDS MORE FUCKING ATTENTION.

^^^^bolded it so people know that this is the best book ever and needs the read.

Abarat by Clive Barker (Four books so far) - Now, this may not be everyones cup of tea. Maybe because I’m a painter, I appreciate him more. But his books are wonderfully illustrated with his paintings that follow along with the beautiful storyline. I recommend this book to the fucking stars. Its a fantastic story with amazing paintings. (Clive Barker, for those who don’t know, also created Hellraiser [Pin Head] and Midnight Meat Train along with a plethora of other stories. It’s worth the read.)

Song of Achilles (novel) - I mean, If you want to fucking CRY  then this is the book for you. It’s so fucking depressing but so FUCKING GOOD. I mean, if you know the story of Achilles, then you know why its depressing. But that doesnt take away from the beautiful story between Achilles and Patroclus. Definitely recommend this book.

Along with that last book, a book that I feel goes hand in hand with it:

Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat (trilogy) - Now. A lot of people have a problem with this trilogy. I personally, as a (mixed, black) poc, have no problem with this book. It’s about two kingdoms, one of poc, Greek-like, and the other of boujee af french-like, white kingdom. In short, the Prince from the Greece inspired Kingdom is framed and shipped away to the french kingdom as a slave. Now, he becomes a slave (as a dark skinned man) to a white prince. There are a lot of things that happen like he gets whipped and other horrible shit. People have a problem with the book because of the dynamic between the two. They find it racist and insensitive. Here’s a great post as to why people don’t like the post, and the second comment is why I read it. I honestly find it to be a beautiful story that develops amazingly over time. I definitely recommend it.

Kids of Appetite by David Arnold (novel) - I’ve just recently read this book and I absolutely fucking loved it. It’s an extremely diverse, beautiful story. Personally, I found the story sad, funny, heart warming, and inclusive. They brush upon the difficulties that black men specifically, have with the judicial system, by having an African man whom is loving and kind, constantly blamed for crimes that he did not commit. Again, it’s a really lovely book and this stuck with me for a very long time. I really recommend it.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness (novel) - If you don’t want to fucking SOB then don’t read it. If you want a beautiful story, I recommend this book to the stars. Honestly, I went into the book not knowing shit about it, just that people loved it. Then I realized that it was about fucking cancer and I was about to throw my god damned book because I don’t fend well with sad things. THEN I found out that it’s also now a movie with Liam Neeson. Ugh. I havent seen the movie yet, but damn was this book magical and heart breaking and wow… Read it. I personally fucking loved it.

Fangirl  by Rainbow Rowell (novel) - I mean, I feel like this book actually summed up my early college experience lol! I was writing fanfiction, roleplaying, cooping myself up in my room - the only difference was, I didnt have a quirky, beautiful, sweet man to hold me as I read outloud to him (if you read the book, then you know what I’m talking about). Honestly, this was a fucking amazing book and I loved it so much. it was feel good and extremely nostalgic for people of my generation (’94-’96 specifically) really well. If you loved Harry Potter, grew up with it, went to the midnight book releases and movie screenings, submerged yourself in the fanfiction, then you will love this book. I thought it was fantastic.

which leads me to this rec.

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell (novel) - Ugh. So in fangirl, there’s a fanfiction that the main character is writing. I know that this book is not the fanfiction, but it is named the same thing - so thats a nice connection. Again, if you love Harry Potter, if you love shipping Drarry (i dont because I find it problematic. But I feel if you like Drarry) then youd love this. I mean honestly, if you just like a cute story, with ridiculous spells, and adorable love, then read it. If you love Harry Potter ESPECIALLY READ THIS BOOK.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor (Trilogy) - Okay. Honestly, I havent seen many people promote this book series, but it is amazing and arguably, one of the most beautifully written trilogies that I have ever read (besides Red Rising. Ahem. Read it). It’s a wonderful story that comes together beautifully and is such a different book from your usual YA.

The Archived by Victoria Schwab (Series of two) - So, if Victoria Schwab sounds familiar, that’s because she also goes under V.E. Schwab okay. Listen. I know that everyone loves A Darker Shade of Magic. I havent finished that book yet and I bet it’s amazing. However, we cannot forget the other amazing books she has written. The Archived is such a lovely, creative story that deserves more credit. Honestly, I’ve never read a book like it before and it stuck with me for an extremely long time. Apparently there is a third book coming out that I have actually been waiting for forever. I’m not going to say much about it, but these books are wonderful and deserve the read.

Speaking of V.E. Schwab

Vicious by V.E. Schwab - This book deserves more recognition. Not only is the cover absolutely AMAZING, but the story is fuckign awesome. If you like Brandon Sanderson books, if you like superheros or Marvel and DC, read this fucking book. It’s fantastically written and needs to be read more. Get on it people.

I mean, these are just some books. I purposely stayed away from some YA  series because I feel like a lot of people know about them. But I mean, some YA series that are well known that I like are:

Obviously Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas

The Darkest Minds  by Alexandra Bracken

So anyway.. i think this is all I’ve got right now haha. I’ll put my favourite books written by poc in the anon above this!

And sometimes
you will think
of words
that will make you
doubt yourself,

that will make you
look at yourself
twice, thrice,
too many times,

but in the end
you should know
that you must
win this war,

even if it means
your own mind.

My Webtoon Recomendations

I got into reading webtoons sometime last year and I’ve just found more and more I’ve loved so here are my top 10 recomendations.

1- Nightmare Factory by Snailords (Rather funny I love the comedy in it even if my Lord went on Hiatus for the month 😢)
2- UnOrdinary by Uru-chan (John x Sera all the way and the story is so good to say the least)
3- Siren’s Lament by Instantmiso (One of the best Webtoons and a great first read with the definite help from Kenny’s music to make it even more memorable)
4- Super Secret by eon (Worth the read I believe because the cast and story are pretty good)
5- Athena Complex by Kiasar (A good one for anyone who loves Greek myths or mythology in general)
6- Snailogy another one by Snailords (I’m pretty sure it’s easy to relate to most of these stories he has from his own life. Even though this comic has ended its still worth the read.)
7- Lackadaisy by Lackadaisy (1920s mafia that’s all I can give you to describe it besides Freckles is a cinnamon roll)
8- Saphie the One-Eyed cat by joho (These next two are for animal lovers.)
9- A Budgie’s Life by Muffin Girl
10-theres a three way tie here. Rise from Ashes by Madeleine Rosca. Ghosts Among the Wildflowers by Ghost Wintersnow. Finally, Oh! Holy by Ahyun. (The story for all of these are good. These three are more recent adds to my library the only reason why they’re so low 😓)

A-Z Book Recommendation

I heard @macrolit started a trend of A-Z Book Recommendations? I may be late to this party but it looked like fun, so here are mine!

(Much to my chagrin I had to cheat on Q and Z; and V is also a bit of a cheat since I haven’t actually finished reading the book yet. On the other hand I did manage to get through it without repeating an author. Enjoy.)

  • The Archer’s Tale by Bernard Cornwell (also published as Harlequin). An adventurous historical fiction novel diving into the life of an English longbow archer in 14th c Europe
  • The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. One of my favorite books of all time; I sob like a baby every single time I read it. By turns heartwarming and heartwrenching, it tells the story of a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany, stealing books and finding escape and solace in reading. It is beautiful and unusual in its style, narrated by Death and painted in vivid imagery.
  • The Chimes by Anna Smaill. A moving and strange dystopia novel about a world where memories have been destroyed and people communicate using music.
  • Dune by Frank Herbert. A powerhouse science fiction novel, Dune is at once a space opera, a political thriller, and a study in religion and survivalism.
  • L’étudiant étranger by Philippe Labro. An autobiographical novel about the sometimes comedic, sometimes serious experience of Labro’s life as an exchange student at a US university.
  • The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien. I’m sure this one needs no introduction - the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy remains, in my opinion, one of the best books ever published, and debatably the best fantasy epic of all time.
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. A very dark but smart and exciting crime novel.
  • A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers. It’s more accurate to say that I experienced this work than that I read it. Part autobiographical, part stretching the factual truth to tell an emotional one, part wild invention, this is the story of Dave and his little brother, Christopher, making their way in the world after the death of both their parents. It is stylized and designed to pull the rug out from under you, toss you out of your comfort zone, and it’s either insane pretentiousness or exactly what it claims: staggering genius.
  • Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. A futuristic fantasy novel about a living prison, the society that built itself inside, and those on the outside living a lie. A fascinating world to dive into.
  • Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. A massive brick of a book but well worth the time for the subtle and detailed world building. It takes place in a slightly different England, where magic was once a fact of life but has long been relegated to a purely theoretical field, until Mr. Norrell teaches himself how to be a practical magician.
  • Kidnapped by Robert Louis Stevenson. A thrilling adventure story, following the journey of a young boy who ends up caught in the power struggles of 18th c Scotland.
  • The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. I don’t care how old I get or how many books he publishes, Rick Riordan will always make me laugh, and I was raised on Greek and Egyptian mythology, so I always adore seeing Riordan play with sticking the gods in the modern day world.
  • The Martian by Andy Weir. Even if you’ve seen the film, the book is still well worth a read. Weir’s story about a man stuck on Mars is both dramatic and funny.
  • The Necessary Death of Lewis Winter by Malcolm Mackay. The choppy style of this book can get on my nerves, but it’s a fantastic and smart crime novel that somehow gets you rooting for a professional hitman.
  • One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. A tragic but moving and at times inspiring dive into the oppressive and cruel world of psychiatric care in the 1960s.
  • Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov. A series of vignettes about an exiled Russian professor told through the eyes of an unreliable narrator.
  • The Heretic Queen by Michelle Moran. Although she takes great liberties in the realm of historical accuracy, Moran’s Ancient Egypt is nevertheless a compelling and exciting world.
  • Raising Steam by Terry Pratchett. I could’ve listed any Discworld book on here because I have yet to read one I dislike, but I did particularly enjoy Raising Steam’s dip into steampunk and the Industrial Revolution, and its relationship with the fantasy life of Discworld
  • Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. A story about a Shakespeare troupe in a post-apocalyptic world, so I was basically destined to love this. It follows the story of several different characters before, during, and after a near-extinction level plague, tying together the different narratives.
  • The Tragedy of Arthur by Arthur Phillips. Written as if it were an autobiography, this is the story of a man whose father, imprisoned as a con man, leaves him what seems to be a lost Shakespeare play when he dies.
  • Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. I read this as a young teenager and I still love it; it’s a good combination of an adventurous YA sci-fi novel and a reflection on the societal fixation on beauty
  • The View from the Cheap Seats by Neil Gaiman. A collection of speeches, essays, introductions, and more.
  • The Wise Man’s Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. The sequel to The Name of the Wind, Wise Man’s Fear keeps me just as captivated and invested in its main character as the first one did.
  • Xenocide by Orson Scott Card. In all honesty it’s been years since I read any of the Ender’s Game books and this was just one of very, very few books I could come up with that had an X in the title, but I remember it being really good sci-fi and social commentary.
  • The Year of Lear: Shakespeare in 1606 by James Shapiro. An incredible book on the social and political context of Macbeth, Anthony and Cleopatra, and King Lear.
  • The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. An amazing book set on Dejima at the turn of the 19th century, about the clash and exchange of culture between the West (primarily the Dutch) and the Japanese.
“Please don’t think that I never care enough.” she said. “I know…I can’t blame you for feeling that way. As if someone took away one of your favorite pens. As if someone fastly grab your toothbrush or the spoon you’re about to take. As if you suddenly stopped doing the things you’re used to. I am sorry. I am really sorry if you’re feeling like that.” she stared at him for several minutes. Then she looked ahead and wiped a single tear that fell from her eyes. “But I was just like a glass of water. A glass you knew that will always be there for you. A sun you knew that will always be there every morning you woke up from tiredness, sadness and hopelessness. Yet, I felt the storm coming in. I felt the glass falling. I felt the cracks. I felt as if you meet someone new and suddenly you’re no longer looking for me. You’re no longer afraid to lose me.” she took a deep sigh. Pulling back all the tears she’s keeping inside. “Because if you’ll ask me, I…I will never blame you for not caring. I just…I just wanted you to know that I am human too. That once I was an echo, and I was dying to be heard too”.
—  ma.c.a // But If I run, would you chase me?

Chapter 9: Visitors; but way more dramatic XD

Please tell me that Green actually sees through her pain, and it hurts to see her smile because he knows, but despite all that she’s still selfless, putting others before herself; showing concern to those around her, even when they don’t

The words “It’s just been so long since I’ve actually been treated like a person.” echoes in his head; how long has it been since she was last shown respect? He had to, he just had to.

anonymous asked:

Hi! I was wondering, do you know any good Yuuri/Yuri fanfiction?

Do I? *rubs hands together deviously* Why, yes, my dear. Prepare to be amazed.

Yuriyuu Fanfic Recommendations:

1. Permanent Ink by @mak-ka-chin
~50k words | Soulmate AU, Angst, Slow Burn | E Rating
This is definitely one of the longest Yuriyuu fics out there. Viktuuri is also present in the fic as Yuuri has two soulmates, but it has really great Yuriyuu development, and I love how the author weaves it all into the plot of the anime.

2. Coup de Foudre by @mak-ka-chin
~4k words | Fluff, Canon Divergent | T Rating
Same author as Permanent Ink. Yuuri never meets Viktor at the banquet, so years later, he sees Yurio perform and becomes inspired to choreograph his new program. It’s very cute, great writing style, and Viktor plays a surprisingly entertaining role.

3. Wildflowers by @axon-a
~70k words | Slow Burn, Mutual Pining, Altered Ages | T Rating
What Yuriyuu fic list is complete without Wildflowers? This fic is even longer than Permanent Ink and really does well on showing their feelings develop over time. There is some Phichuuri and Otayuri along the way, but we do get to Yuriyuu by the end. A good solid read.

4. Be Patient. It Takes Time by Denymore
~15k words | Fluff, Angst, Viktuuri Breakup | G Rating
This is a very cute fic that follows Yuri and Yuuri after Viktuuri breaks up. (Just a warning: The writer is not a native English speaker, so there are a lot of grammar mistakes, but I think it’s definitely worth reading) It’s a really beautiful, heartwarming story and portrays the Yuriyuu relationship very well.

5. I’m Jealous of the Way You’re Happy Without Me by @ochoth
~3k words | Angst, Character Death, Mourning, Unrequited Love | M Rating
This fic is not for the faint of heart. I cry like a baby every time I read it. Not only is it sad and heartfelt, but it also shows a lot of deep characterization of Yuri and Yuuri. The story felt incredibly realistic, which made it all the more painful. It hurts you in a good way.

6. Yuri Plisetsky, Foulmouthed Guardian Angel by istillfearkanna
~8k words (ongoing) | Angst, Fluff, Potential Viktuuri, Hurt/Comfort | T Rating
This fic isn’t finished yet, but it has a very promising start. The writing style is nice and there’s a good mix of angst and fluff. It definitely leaves you on the edge of your seat. I really like how we see Yuri’s vulnerable side in this fic.

This one is actually Viktuurio, meaning Viktor x Yuri x Yuuri. I don’t read a lot of these, but this one is very special to me. Yuri has a great friendship with Otabek, and he pines after both Yuuri and Viktor, though it takes him a while to discover what his feelings mean. Even if you’ve never read Viktuurio, I recommend giving this one a try. It captured my heart from the very first moment.

So there you go! Seven great fics to get you started. If you’ve got any recommendations for me, feel free to drop them in my ask box. Happy reading~

Viktor x Yuuri

Beside the Dancing Sea by lily_winterwood and MapleTreeway
Rating: Explicit, finished (13/13 chapters), words: 186584
This has to be my favourite fanfiction of all times. It is just everything you want a fanfiction to be and more: fluffy, sexy, emotional, funny, and creative. The story takes place in a fictional town in Scotland, Viktor is an author seeking for inspiration and Yuuri is a selkie. The setting is amazing, the characters are all beautifully portrayed, the writing is amazing, it is even multimedia, adding a nice touch to everything and it is overall just amazing and wholesome and an experience. Once you start reading, you don’t want to stop.

starstruck by shizuoh:
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences, finished (18/18 chapters), words: 58955
An AU in which Viktor is a famous actor and single father of a young little boy named Yuri.Yuuri, who is a simple barrista, somehow ends up as the babysitter. A beautiful slow burn fanfiction with a lot of feels and dorks who are pining and and the sweetest little boy Yuri. One of the first fics I read after getting into the fandom and still one of my absolute favourites.

Rise Above the Tides by Kashoku:
Rating: Explicit, finished (11/11 chapters), words: 34869

This fanfiction, my guys… It’s very angsty, dark (in the truest sense of the word) and sad. But it’s amazing and it won’t leave you alone after you start reading, you just want to know how it goes on and you really want to hug the heck out of poor boy Yuuri. The story revolves around Yuuri who becomes blind after an accident and how he has to deal with his new disability… which isn’t good.
It’s gonna be okay, though.

It Doesn’t Have to be a Lie by Recesskup:
Not Rated, unfinished (20/? chapters), words: 54986
This fanfiction is set in a College AU and is about Dance major Yuuri who has a raging crush on Photography major Viktor and accidently tells his parents that Viktor is his new boyfriend and will come with him to Japan. To his surprise Viktor is willing to visit Yuuri’s family and pretend they’re in a relationship. Overall just really fluffy and cute, mostly two dorks who are pining over each other with a little bit of angst as well.

Tu meum Animum by bratinella:
Rating: General, unfinished (13/? chapters), words: 47879
My favourite Hogwarts AU out there. Unfortunately I don’t know if the story will be continued, but it’s either way worth to read it. It’s about a certain Russian Slytherin boy who is pining over a certain Japanese Gryffindor boy and how they become friends and very slowly even more than that. But there is also the Triwizard Tournament which is making things a little bit more dificult, for Viktor at least.

What happens in Vegas Stays In Vegas by Gayson:
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences, finished (4/4 chapters), words: 21525
The most hilarious bachelor party. In Vegas. Honestly, I laughed so hard while reading this fanfiction. All of our boys are really drunk and do some really stupid things, but they have the time of their lives. Also Viktuuri wedding, what more do you want?

Otabek x Yurio

More Than He Bargained For by Follow Your Dreams:
Rating: Explicit, unfinished (15/20 chapters), words: 60838
My guys. I’m hooked since I started to read this fanfiction and I always wait anxiously for the next update, because it is that good. Because Yuri has done something wrong his parents sent him to the Altins in hope that their son Otabek maybe is a good influence on him. Lots of feels, lots of fluff, lots of moments in which you just want to hug them and tell them they will be okay. There is some angst going on, but at the same time it just. So. Sweet. My heart.

Wolves of the Wilderness by NinjaMatty:
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences, unfinished (33/? chapters), words: 127277
This story is set in a dystopian future in which Otabek is a citizen who knows he has to die, because he is seen as useless for the society due to his unability to have children. Someday his doctor Viktor Nikiforov appears at his doorstep and leaves him with a blond, wounded boy…. This story leaves you on edge the whole time you read it. It is something so entirely different from everything I’ve read so far and you could easily think this was a real novel. Beside the amazing plot with a lot of unexpected twists and turns, it’s also the most bitter-sweet slow burn ever.

This fanficition devasted me. This is the saddest shit you’ll ever read, probably. No, really, it is amazing and I loved it, but it’s just very sad. So if you’re in the mood for a little heart break and a few tears, than go ahead and read this. For a little twist is this not an AU, but canon compliant if I remember correctly and is based on Otabeks unrequited love towards his best friend.

Not your usual love story by arcsinx:
Rating: Explicit, unfinished (18/? chapters), words: 62034
Not gonna lie, this fic is very smutty and full of sexual tension. But I really like the idea of Model!Yuri and DJ!Beka and how it’s portrayed. I really love their dynamics here and also Gentleman!Otabek. I have a great weakness for Otabek being a gentleman, to be honest (and so does Yuri).

Six Kinds of Love by Frilly_Axolotl:
Rating: Explicit, unfinished (13/? chapters), words: 50920
I put it to the Otayuri fraction of this list, because Viktuuri already has so many fics, haha. This fanfiction is really dark and if you are interested, please read the tags beforehand. There might be some triggering things… The story is set in a world in which slaves are legal and the Yuris have been slaves of two terrible men until they are rescued by Viktor Nikiforov. The story is very interesting. It shows the process of the Yuris to adjust to the new situation, which isn’t abusive anymore and their new masters Viktor and Otabek, who both insist that they aren’t really their masters. Needless to say, it’s very angsty and not very fluffy or romantic.

sea town by dolcette:
Rating: Mature, one shot, words: 1682
This is a short and sweet fanfiction about our boys going on vacation, but way better put into words. This one is more about the feeling and the atmosphere of the story than the actual plot itself. The writing is beautiful and poetic.

Before the very special moment comes, you expect the sun to rise in the morning. So it will light the whole day. You expect it to celebrate with you while you turn your head up high and smile at the sky. Before you went to surprise your friend on his own house, you expect him to be there knowing he would not go anywhere else. Before you call your best friend to tell her stories in the middle of the night, you expect her to answer your call and tell you that she has her ears open to everything you’re going to say. When you fall on your knees while you are surrounded by a lot of busy people, you expect someone to lend you a hand and lift you up on your feet. When you fall in love with someone who matters to you the most, you expect to be with them forever knowing that you will never fall out of love with them. Never. Yet when your dreams shattered to the ground, when your heart gets broken, you become disappointed and blame yourself for expecting too much. Your walls break down and you let them be replaced with negativities. Suddenly you lie awake at 3am thinking what you have done wrong. Thinking if there’s still a way for you to step your feet and walk on. It rains. Stars are falling. People are leaving. One by one. Not all at once. As if they let you see them disappear like leaves on Autumn. But you and your hope is still there, sleeping and waiting for your call. You knew that expectations are different from love and hope. And you still have the latter. Your heart is still beating. This world is still revolving around the sun. The stars are still going to shine. Billions of people are still alive. And you’re still there, breathing, existing. Hope, my dear, but never expect. Because in the end, with love, it still remains. And someday you will understand that these things are some of the best things you’ll ever have in your life. That even if you refuse to feel them in a while, these are some things you’ve been possessing from the very start.
