i now recognize that in order for the nashville predators, the most incredible team in the national hockey league, to shutout the ********** on home ice, the toronto maple leafs couldn’t win against the capitals. this is a trade i am more than willing to accept.
This is one of the things I miss most about watching her play. And one of the most important yet underrated aspects of her game - her ability to command. Often times you could hear Hope shouting commands as soon as the opponent crossed the halfway line. Always ready, always focused. And I always found being able to hear her voice on the pitch from on-field mics so fascinating. Part of her psyche, the methods behind her technique; much like her notes on PK takers. Her ability to communicate effectively, command her line (and thus earn the trust of her defenders), and organize her players into positions that result in fewer opportunities in front of goal has lead to fewer saves and more shutouts throughout her career. The opposite of what most people think of when they think of this position, but an excellent goalkeeper is the one who doesn’t have to face the ball for the better part of 90 minutes.
Drafted 1st overall in the 2003 NHL draft. 691 games played. 667 games started. 375 wins. 19,487 saves. 2.58 GAA. .912 SV%. 44 shutouts. 115 playoff games played. 62 playoff wins. 10 playoff shutouts. Three-time Stanley Cup champion. Thank you for everything, Flower. We love you.
one lazy saturday morning chowder, dex, and nursey watch goonies together and get into the habit of saying “goonies never say die” to each other. it starts off as something dumb, like when dex says “i don’t think i can finish this fifth slice of pie,” chowder will just scream “DON’T SAY THAT! NEVER SAY THAT! GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!” but then it turns into nursey crying in the library saying “i can’t do this,” and dex and chowder rubbing his back and murmuring “hey, goonies never say die, right?” when they’re seniors and they’re going into the last period of the championship, down 3-1, there’s a moment before they take the ice and it’s just the three of them and dex says “goonies never say die, right?” and chowder has a shutout period, the gwg coming from nursey’s slapper off dex’s one-timer

chowder, a few years out of college, starting goaltender for the sharks, who are great defensively but really not capitalizing on scoring chances as much as they should this season, they want to bring in someone who’s experienced, talented, can get pucks to the net and score, so at the trade deadline they acquire jack l zimmermann. and it’s been a few years since chowder’s spoken to him regularly but obviously they keep in touch, chowder’s worried about it, though, because being traded kind of sucks. but jack is so excited to play with chowder again and won’t stop talking to everyone who will listen about “the best goalie he’s ever played with” including the media and when chowder gets a shutout in the first game he plays with jack on the ice jack tweets (his first tweet in like 3 months) “even better than i remember him being” and everyone who’s ever gone to samwell rt’s it and chowder is very happy, and he tweets the same thing when jack scores his first hatty with the sharks.
Well lemme just tell you a lil’ about this Michigan Native!
Born and raised in Troy, Michigan. Her parents signed her up as a kid to Rec, went to 5 tryouts but didn’t make a team until one needed a back-up. Eventually became a starter and from then out performed for her team. In high school,
she was named to the all-state first team, the all-district first team, the all-conference first team, and all-region first team. She then attended the University of Michigan! Go Blue!
She had a terrific career at Michigan. During her best season, which was her 1st after a season ending injury her freshman year, Kopmeyer led the Big Ten in saves (56), save percentage (.862) and saves-per-game (5.60) during conference play while topping the conference in overall save percentage (.848) and sharing the lead in saves (95). She played in 16 games, making 15 starts and set the school rookie record for shutouts with six. She was awarded the University of Michigan Athletic Academic Achievement Award for the second year running and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
After 4 incredible seasons, this Michigan product, to her surprise, was drafted 31st overall by the Seattle Reign in 2013. Kopmeyer didn’t believe she’d even be drafted and thus already had plans working somewhere else in marketing. She even watched the 2013 NWSL draft until the 29th pick and stopped there and went to work bc she thought she wasn’t going to be drafted only to get a call from her father to which she started bawling.
Unfortunately, she was released from the team due to league roster constraints; however she was re-signed by the team for the 2014 season to back up Hope Solo.
In 2014, as back up to Hope, Kopmeyer believed it was a year she and Hope had began their relationship which was ‘massive’ , in her own words, in the sense that she had the opportunity to grow and learn from the best goal keeper in the world. She finally had someone who believed in her and thus from there on out kept improving as a GK.
On her first ever start in 2014, something only our Kop would do, she went to the wrong goal and so ran the entire field to get to the right one.
However, she did keep a clean sheet and the unbeaten streak while bringing the club to its fifth shutout in twelve games. Not to mention, some really good saves
Kopmeyer has been the back up since 2014 but in the years 2015-17, she’s taken a bigger role as Hope is in rehab now and taken a break from football. She is now the No.1 and has been putting on stellar performances for the Reign.
From being rejected as a kid in rec games, to starting in the wrong goal as a professional to being Player of the Week and now Seattle Reign’s No.1, Haley Kopmeyer is a Seattle Reign FC Original and forever a gem to our team.
When the knock falls on his door in the middle of the afternoon, Chowder is so grateful for the distraction from his homework he could cry.
He gets up, opens the door, and smiles–it’s Farmer, and she has a cardboard tray with two carry-out cups from Annie’s in her left hand. Kissing her briefly in greeting, he grabs one of the coffee cups. (It doesn’t matter which he takes, since they both drink it the same way anyway-no cream, two sugars.)
“You just saved my life, Cait,” Chowder informs her, sitting back down in his chair as she sits cross-legged on the bed. “I’m pretty sure another two minutes of staring at this screen and I’d, like, snap. Like those people on the news who are just, you know, postal workers or whatever, but then one day out of nowhere they try to stab a nun or something.”
It’s dumb. It’s incredibly dumb and completely unfounded and totally unreasonable and he definitely, most assuredly, one hundred and ten million percent should not be thinking it because there’s no way, no reasoning, no evidence, and no defense for the absolute garbage his brain is coming up with.
He’s still thinking it.
The problem was… Nursey was all types of beautiful. Every type of beautiful, if Chris was being honest with himself here, as he idly flipped through his texts for class. He glanced up at Nursey where he sat across from him at their spot in the library, intently taking notes by hand from where he’d typed them up on his laptop. His brow creased a little and he crossed a few things out, then tapped delicately at his lip, and Chris found himself getting the soft butterflies that still hadn’t stopped fluttering despite the fact that they were months into their relationship.
