a part of me is gone with them. like a horcrux

justanotherhamiltrash  asked:

Hi there, do you have any recs for long drarry fics? I'm not very good at finding them

Hello!! I’ve done a rec list for long, slow burn fics in the past, so please check that out because I love every fic on that list to death! But OH MAN I could talk about long Drarry fics for the rest of my life, so here are some more! All very long, but not necessarily slow burn this time ;)

What We Pretend We Can’t See by gyzym (131K)- Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
This is the only one I am going to copy from the slow burn rec list, because I just want to rec it every day of my life. It is quite literally my number one favorite fic ever, and I am not exaggerating. Do you see how serious I am right now? I am never serious. This fic is so amazing it turned me serious. I’m not even going to summarize it again because if you trust me at all you will just go read it nooooooow.

Turn by Saras_Girl (307K)- One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.
Of course in the middle of declaring my favorite fic ever, I had to remember Turn and how utterly brilliant it is and how I’ve reread it and it was STILL utterly brilliant the second time and have a crisis because MAYBE THIS IS ACTUALLY MY FAVORITE FIC???! Aaah help, I can never choose! Anyway, are you a drarry fan who hasn’t read Turn yet? Really? Well, in that case FUCK YOU BECAUSE I AM SO JEALOUS YOU GET TO READ IT FOR THE FIRST TIME YOU LUCKY BASTARD. *ahem* Anyway, in this amazing fic, epilogue-compliant and worn-down Harry goes to an alternate dimension in which he is happily married to Draco, owns the best pet snake ever, and makes furniture for a living (love artsy Harry <3). It’s truly a masterpiece, and as always with my recs there is a happy ending, so don’t worry!

Tales from the Special Branch Series by femmequixotic (272K so far)- (Summary is from the second part of the series, which is the first long installment: Lost in Your ArmsThree months after their brief encounter, Draco has almost forgotten about Potter–or so he tells himself. Then a Dark wizard shows up on the Auror radar and all hell breaks loose. Draco will have to choose between everything he holds dear–everything he’s worked so hard for–and a few stolen moments of passion with a certain green-eyed Inspector, once his sworn enemy and now something rather different entirely. He’ll make the right choice, won’t he? Who is he kidding? He’ll ruin everything, as per usual. Bad choices and the name Malfoy go hand in hand.
This series is a WIP, but a regularly updated one and the FIRST CHAPTER OF THE NEXT BOOK IS BEING RELEASED TOMORROW AND I AM SO EXCITED!!! I feel so lucky to be following along with it as it comes out, because let me tell you, this is an instant classic! There is lovely forbidden fornication between a boss (Harry) and his subordinate (Draco) (the prequel was written for the kink fest so you can bet the sex is SCORCHING), a very compelling mystery/case, and truly brilliant characterization! I identify so much with this Draco. And I also love that Harry isn’t the perfect flawless cinnamon roll he is often portrayed as in fics. Everyone in this series is very human, and I am just dying of excitement to find out what happens to them next! I know I’ve already gushed about this fic in several other places recently, and I’m sorry to repeat myself but I really can’t get enough! PLEASE JOIN ME IN ROOTING FOR @femmequixotic AS SHE KINDLY DEDICATES HER SOUL TO US ALL FOR THE NEXT BIT OF HER LIFE <3

Secrets by Vorabiza (395K)- Beginning with Draco’s unexpected arrival at the Dursleys, Harry’s summer after sixth year becomes filled with activity and many secrets. As his summer progresses, Harry generates several unexpected allies as he finds himself actively becoming the leader of the Light side.
OMG it’s the first fic I ever read!! The fic that brought me into the fandom! I have suuuuuch a soft spot for this fic, and it is just so so so good! It’s probably my favorite adventure/wizarding war plot of all. Harry is just so confident and he embraces his Slytherin side and really Gets Shit Done, and it’s SO SATISFYING. Also, I love any fic in which Draco helps with the Horcrux hunt. Also there’s a baaaaaaby (no mpreg) and mentor!Snape, which is really nice. This fic was written post-HBP, but is SURPRISINGLY accurate in its predictions. Oh, and the sex is super hot too ;)

Checkmate by Naadi (245K)- Draco has the perfect plan to get Harry Potter and challenges him to a game of Dare Chess. But is it love, or betrayal, he has in mind? A real chess game is played throughout the story.
This fic is so lovely! It’s an “alternate 7th year AU”, written after Goblet of Fire. It’s fluffy and funny and lovey and then dramatic and passionate and YEAH I LOVED IT. The real time game of chess, in which Harry and Draco take turns making “moves” (on each other) is just such a wonderful idea. Read the author’s note for more info!

Leo Inter Serpentes by Aeternum (658K combined so far)- Just one conversation between two eleven year old boys goes slightly differently, and the world changes. Just how much will be different with Harry being sorted into Slytherin, and how much will stay the same?
SLYTHERIN HARRY ALERT SLYTHERIN HARRY ALERT! Yep, a Slytherin Harry rewrite, and a REALLY GOOD ONE. Like usually I love the idea of Slytherin Harry, and then once I start reading I either find I’m bored because everything is just a repeat of canon or I can’t get into it because everyone is so OOC. But not this one! This fic is engaging and different enough from canon to be interesting and I love the eleven-year-old baby drarry friendship that eventually turns to romance! This fic also features benevolent mentor!Snape, which I suppose is either an enticement or a warning depending on your preferences. You SHOULD be warned that it’s a WIP. But the author is currently actively posting the 6th book, and I have hope it won’t be abandoned :)

Any Instrument by dicta_contrion (131K)- Draco Malfoy wouldn’t go back to England for anything less than an exceptional case. Being asked to figure out why Harry Potter can’t control his magic might be exceptional enough to qualify.
Okay I have a HUGE thing for healer!draco and this fic portrayed him so so so perfectly. Harry is having complications with his magic after an operation gone wrong. So Draco comes from France and of course they can’t get together because Draco is Harry’s healer but OMG THE UST and then let me just say that when they finally do have sex, it’s the most beautiful, moving, heart-stopping sex scene you will ever read. Like, I felt it in my soul. And the character development is so compelling and there are literally no flaws in this fic whatsoever.

Starts With a Spin by Maxine (120K)- It started with the spin of a bottle, and now Harry and Draco have gotten themselves so far into their own game there’s almost no way out again. Except to keep playing.
AAAAH this fic has all the teenage drarry feels! They’re so in character, always trying to one-up each other! And like these constant party games are happening and they’re being “forced” to go further and further with each other by their friends until they’re actually having sex, and YET THEN THE WAR IS STILL ON AS WELL, and it’s just super well-written and great! Another classic :D

Changing of the Guard by Lomonaaeren (210K)- Need a perfect stranger? Ask Metamorphosis. Harry Potter runs the business secretly and becomes whoever’s needed for each occasion. He’s not sure whether he should be more surprised, worried, or amused when Draco Malfoy comes to Metamorphosis and requests an actor who can play his boyfriend so that his parents will disown him. Yet Harry has even more dangerous choices after he creates Brian, Draco’s “perfect” boyfriend. Draco doesn’t know who Brian is, but he’s trying to find out—and now so is Harry.
Aaah Lomonaaeren! Drarry writer of my dark, dark heart! And yet I know some people aren’t huge fans of her style and I don’t want to be reccing her fics all the time, so I try to keep the Lomon recs relatively infrequent. But if you are looking for long fics and you do like her style, I’m pretty sure she can keep you busy for like an entire year. This woman is more prolific than Steven King, and it’s a true blessing. As for this particular fic, Harry basically has Dissociative Identity Disorder, but he has been making the most of it by running a whoever-you-need-for-hire business. Only then Draco arrives, and Harry’s world had to come crashing down at some point and that point is NOW, and the drama is just so so good and this fic gave me ALL THE FEELS. It’s possibly my favorite of her fics :)

The akatsuki in Harry Potter?

YES yes thank you for this thank you THANK YOU *cracks knuckles* I’ve thought way to much about this. The time line is pre-Harry Potter, at the height of Voldemort’s original rise to power. ~Admin Song

Yahiko’s, Nagato’s and Konan’s parents were all killed by Death Eaters, as a starting point.

Akatsuki Members in Harry Potter

• A pureblood sorted into Hufflepuff and forever changed the perception of what Hufflepuffs were capable of as he went down in history as one of the most powerful and despicable persons in the wizarding world. Nagato was sensitive and smart in his school days, always flying under the radar and quietly practicing his magic.

• Became best friends with Yahiko (Gryffindor) after the latter saved him from a group of bullies at in his second year. Was then introduced to Konan (Ravenclaw), and the three soon became thick a thieves. Influenced by Yahiko’s ideals, the three graduated to be Aurors to fight the darkness spread by The Dark Lord.

• Witnessed the death of his best friend at the hands of Death Eaters when he was only eighteen. Freshly graduated, Yahiko stormed into the heat of battle and died a foolhardy hero. Nagato began doubting the methods of the Aurors. Something dark and unforgiving was planted in him.

• After years of lurking in the shadows, preparation and research, he rallied together the emerging Akatsuki, a hardcore liberation group whose only goal was the destruction of evil by any means necessary. As a Hufflepuff, Nagato was able to use every single resource to his advantage, rapidly becoming a terrifyingly powerful new player in the wizarding war.

• As his notoriety grew, threats to Nagato’s life began from both the Ministry and the Death Eaters. Consumed by a desire for revenge and peace, Nagato resorted to creating his first Horcrux. With the murder of a high-ranking Death Eater, he and Konan successfully transfered a portion of Nagato’s soul into Yahiko’s wand.

• Evolved his own technique of Transfiguring Horcruxes into the Six Paths of Pein. Nagato first transplanted the greatest portion of his soul into Yahiko’s body, then after that into feared and respected high-ranking members from both the Ministry and the Death Eaters that died at the hands of the Akatsuki. At the sacrifice of his own body and sanity, Nagato tore his soul into six pieces, leaving his original body skeletal and disfigured and miniscule.

• A quiet artistic genius, Konan knew she’d be sorted into Ravenclaw from an early age. A half-blood with a happy upbringing, having the wizarding world thrust into war left Konan reeling for something to grab on to, especially after the murder of her parents (her father married a muggle, labelled a “blood-traitor”).

• She attached herself to her school friends Yahiko and Nagato, finding faith with them that one day the world might change. But then Yahiko was murdered and she saw the last person she loved in the world, Nagato, grow bitter and vengeful.

• Essentially shut down the best and brightest parts of herself. Konan’s intellect allowed Nagato’s ambitions to thrive, making her feel useful and as though Yahiko had not died in vain. It was only after Yahiko was gone that Konan realized she was in love with him. Heavy with grief, she released her hopes for the future and gave her will over to Nagato.

• Wand consists of unicorn and walnut. Konan’s favourite subject is Charms, although she scored consistently across all school subjects. However, Konan could not fly a broom for the life of her, and soon gave up after the mandatory first-year course.

Think Seamus Finnegan, but purposeful, and with much more macabre outcomes. Made his first self-guiding firework when he was seven, using clay and his mother’s wand.

• His parents turned a blind eye to all the mice Deidara brought home, didn’t question him when the neighbouring Muggle’s cat went missing, or even raise a fuss when reports from Hogwarts listed ‘has a tendency to make things explode’. Super enablers who praised their boy, giving him an inflated sense of self worth.

• They don’t call it the Dark Arts for nothing. To Deidara, the most forbidden spells were the most tantalizing, and as he learned about them second-handedly via Defense Against the Dark Arts, his fascination grew.

• Skilled in Transfiguration, Deidara’s specialty was transfiguring living beings into clay, which he then was able to transfigure into an explosion. He is the first wizard to ever complete two levels of Transfiguration in a single spell- first to clay, then to a BOOM.

• Considered joining the Death Eaters, but (quote) “wasn’t letting that effing ugly tattoo anywhere near my body”. I’m kind of joking but also I’m kind of not. He also enjoyed the agency the Akatsuki offered, letting him use his powers to the fullest. To Deidara, nothing would be more beautiful than watching his enemies explode.

• When sorted a Gryffindor at age eleven, Hidan punched two fists up in the air and shrieked with joy. He didn’t give a shit how everyone stared at him like he’d lost his freaking mind, he’d gotten what he wanted. Gryffindor’s reputation for creating heroes and victors attracted Hidan, and his hyperactive need for conflict seemed to compliment the traditional traits of the house. Soon gained a reputation through Hogwarts as a little shit disturber with a big ego.

• Always getting into fights. Hidan frequently challenged other students to duels in the heat of arguments. “Oh yeah bitch? Why don’t you duel me??”- definitely said by Hidan. Even after teachers ordered him to stop, Hidan couldn’t contain his need to pound his enemies into the dirt.

• Never graduated. Hidan was expelled from Hogwarts in his sixth year for nearly strangling a boy to death with a combination levitation/binding spell. According to onlookers of the duel, a strange blankness overcame Hidan’s face as he squeezed the life from the boy. When Hidan started laughing, several students became scared and left to find a professor. The professor was horrified to happen upon an unconscious third year hanging limply in the air and Hidan cackling, seemingly unaware of his surroundings.

• Spent a stint with the Death Eaters. Being that bravery is a prime Gryffindor quality, Hidan volunteered for several experiments involving immortality in the hopes of achieving it for Voldemort himself. In a freak accident combining several irreplacable elements, this was astoundingly apparently achieved. But the invulnerability fed Hidan’s lust for battle beyond what the Death Eaters had designed for him and he left, killing several Death Eaters on his way out.

• Joined the Akatsuki because they were the only option left. Hidan relished in every opportunity to kill presented to him. He slaughtered wizards and witches on both sides, laughing and praising his ultimate purpose.

• As for immortality, every wound inflicted upon Hidan’s body was reflected upon his soul, which at the time of his burial (still by Shikamaru) was shredded to ribbons. If he ever did make it to the afterlife, Hidan would be reduced to something even smaller than Lord Voldemort was, something in constant agony and permanently incapable of ever being whole again. That would be the price for his immortality.

• Born a ‘Mudblood”, Kakuzu despised his upbringing the moment he set foot in Hogwarts. His great ambition cast him as a Slytherin, where he was ostracized by his own house for his low-class Muggle parents. Growing up, Kakuzu always schemed for a way to beat his ‘inferior’ heritage. The students he simultaneously despised and idolized were wealthy pure bloods dripping in old money. They epitomized everything Kakuzu wanted but couldn’t have.

• Flew under the radar most of his school/young adult life, but sometime after his graduating Hogwarts, there were strange reports of missing witches and wizards. It took the Ministry a while to link them all back to Kakuzu, and though they searched for any affiliation to Dark Arts organizations, it appeared the only loyalty Kakuzu had was to the money paid out to him for the assassinations.

• Wizards live to be old, but Kakuzu is far older than most by the time he joins the Akatsuki. Like many others before him, Kakuzu experimented with ways to prolong his lifespan, and found partial success in his years of travel. After all, the older you live, the more money you can amass. Using a combination of brutal Transfiguration, Dark Arts, and illegal potions, Kakuzu restitches a body that can die time over time again.

• As war broke out, Kakuzu’s business plummeted. There was enough bloodshed, no one wanted to pay Kakuzu’s price for one death when thousands being were slaughtered every day. Kakuzu joined the Akatsuki upon Nagato’s request at the promise of money and power. By this time the organization was well feared by both sides, which Kakuzu saw value in. As he became one of the highest ranking members, and most notorious, Kakuzu achieved the sense of power he’d always associated with pure-bloodedness.

Itachi Uchiha

• The Uchiha were a well-established pure-blood presence in the wizarding community, with direct bloodlines to royalty. However, after years of interbreeding and otherwise ‘gotta keep that blood pure’ craziness that ends up tainting the mind, the majority of the Uchiha family developed a dangerous sense of superiority, to Muggles and fellow wizards alike.

• The Uchiha are particularly skilled in the art of Legilimency, the act of magically navigating the many layers of person’s mind. Uchiha through the ages have been famously renowned as infiltrators and gatherers of intelligence. Itachi is no exception, and he’s soon hailed as a genius of Legilimency. Recruited by the Ministry of Magic while still in school to monitor suspicious figures.

• Powerful members of the Uchiha plotted to infiltrate the Ministry of Magic and take control, recalling the old days of kings with absolute power. The Uchiha wanted to be a royal family again, with a literal reign over all the wizarding world. Known for their powerful spells and curses, the Uchiha were fearsome wizards and witches.

• Itach told his high-ups what his family was planning. Upon their instruction he assassinated the majority of the Uchiha, save for Sasuke. Like the anime, Itachi took the burden and the blame, disappearing from the wizarding world and being labelled as “Itachi the Mad” or “Itachi the Bloodthirsty”.

• Since he was responsible for the extermination of so much pure blood, Death Eaters set out to murder Itachi. He successfully evaded them until he joined the Akatsuki, which he only did to draw out Sasuke. He wanted to see his little brother again.

• At Hogwarts Itachi was always humble and kind. He was sorted to Ravenclaw, to his parents surprise and, though they tried to hide it, disdain. He and Shisui (Gryffindor) stuck together and avoided the majority of Slytherin Uchiha. Together they were the favourite students of most professors, excelling in most classes, being generally well-behaved, and always willing to go the extra mile.

• His favourite class was Herbology.

• His mother and father were filled with dismay when the doctor handed them their newborn Kisame, fully steel blue from head to toe. Demanding an explanation, the doctor stammered that perhaps one one or both of the parents had involved themselves with Transfiguration spells beyond their range of power. Livid, Kisame’s mother and father swept out of the hospital with their infant.

• Kisame would never learn that his scaly skin and blue complexion were, in fact, a result of his father and mother attempting Transfiguration on the unformed fetus with the intent of giving Kisame a vaster capacity for magic and producing powerful spells. Neither the mother or father were spectacular wizards, but together they decided they wanted their son to be the start of a legacy.

• Transfiguration is a very difficult and perhaps the most scientific of the magical arts. This added reservoir of magic could not have been conjured from nothing- as it happens, both of Kisame’s parents were occupied as marine biologists (more similar to Charlie Weasley’s job as a dragonologist than muggle scientists) assigned to a large team of wizards tasked with preserving the highly endangered Megalodon, which resembles a great white shark but VASTLY LARGER. Believed to be a long extinct prehistoric sea creature by Muggles, the Megalodon is referred to as the “dragon of the deep”, with similar incredibly magical properties in its various body parts.

• Father managed to obtain the dorsal fin of a Megalodon, which he made into soup and gave to his wife. Although the magic that seeped into the broth allowed Kisame to grow much more powerful, it also mingled his unborn body’s development with the lingering essence of the Megalodon.

• Sorted into Gryffindor, even played on the Quidditch team for a bit as a Beater. Usually the one to start a scrap on the field. Also had to buy new robes every half-semester because he’d grow out of his so quickly.

• Other students (and some professors) didn’t fully trust Kisame, and there were issues with other parents not wanting their children attending the same school as Kisame. Ugly rumours flew- that he wasn’t a wizard, but some kind of monster instead. Or that he was a defective animagus, or secretly a carnivorous merman, or yada yada yada. There were so many rumours that Kisame just fucking ignored all of them. He knew what he was, and he tried to tell himself that was enough.

• As his great power developed, others began fearing Kisame. He’d try to make a feather float and it’d shoot through the ceiling like a bullet. In his third year Kisame could transfigure objects the size of a horse, something even Professor McGonagall has difficulty doing. Soon his powers outstripped the professors, although his skill did not. His peers and their parents grew nervous.

• Kisame left in the middle of sixth year. There was a petition for him to leave (which he would’ve LOVED to fight against), but the fact is he was also thirstier for something greater than what Hogwarts could offer. There was a deeper taste for blood. Travelled and fought, earned money and grew disillusioned the world as he learned more about it.

• Joined Akatsuki because he loved fighting, but also because he found them truthful. Monsters are within everyone, Kisame believes. He’s just honest about his nature. The real dangers are the monsters in pristine human shells (hint hint Voldemort).

• Poster child of a Slytherin by nurture instead of nature. His pure blood mother raised him (father was a nameless Muggle) until she was arrested for conspiring with Death Eaters and died during interrogation. Sasori’s grandmother raised him from the time he was five to when he was fourteen. She was never warm or doting, harbouring a deep seated grudge towards Sasori’s mother for having a fling with a Muggle. As a result, Sasori grew up without the knowledge of a parent’s love.

• Sasori compensated for this by charming life into everyday objects, dolls becoming his favourite. It’s not strange for a child to play with dolls, but Sasori isolated himself from the world to be with his toys. Although his grandmother thought he’d grow out of it, Sasori was packing his dolls in his suitcase to Hogwarts as late as fourth year.

• Incidentally, fourth year was Sasori’s final year at Hogwarts. He was relatively quiet, but bought into all the Muggle hatred spouted by his fellow Slytherins. Sasori grew to hate the Muggle half of him, becoming obsessed with the idea of ‘dirty blood’. In his second year he began researching ways to rid himself of his body, make a new one in his image. Sasori was an unsung genius amongst his peers, his intelligence dismissed for his unnatural social behaviours.

• Favorite class was Charms. Sasori had a knack for disturbingly life-like charms, creating objects imbued with the ability to converse, listen, and take orders. His classmates thought of him as weird and intense.

• At fourteen, succeeded in building his first vessel. It took two years for Sasori to experiment with different runes and strengthen his charms enough. In the end, Sasori had to resort to cursing the empty puppet, although he hated the terminology.

• The transition of consciousness/soul to the puppet was a result of Sasori being too smart for his own good. Before he could really understand what was happening, Sasori felt his soul ripping out of his body the very moment the final curse left his lips. He woke up in the puppet he’d created for himself, feeling nothing at all. Without a second thought, Sasori left Hogwarts, leaving his body behind. The “murder” of Sasori became one of the greatest legends of Hogwarts, up there with the Chamber of Secrets.

• Continued his obsession with charming life into the inanimate, living underground and moving often. Sasori joined the Akatsuki when he heard his grandmother had died at the hands of the Death Eaters. Even in seeking revenge, Sasori refused to rejoin the wizarding community.

Zetsu (white and black)

• One of the darkest and most evil creatures lurking the planet, it is still unclear where Zetsu came from or what he is. It’s rumoured he’s the result of a cursed Herbology experiment, or perhaps the manifestation of dark intent in the same way Dementors are to despair.

• Some say he’s been around since the beginning of time, feeding off of humanity’s bad intentions until he reached his current form. Whatever the truth is, it’s clear he is not human.

• Uses no wand. Zetsu’s primary genetic makeup is plant-based, meaning he could be the first heard of plant with an intelligence and awareness rivalling humans. Is able to extend his magic to manipulate the plants around him.

• Finds Nagato and joins the Akatsuki of his own, again for reasons unknown. Able to grow sentient white forms that are invaluable for scouting information.

• Think of him more like a legendary great evil creature, like the Basilisck.

• What we have here is a very similar situation to Lord Voldemort and Professor Quirrell. Reduced to a shadow and driven by vengance, Obito latches himself to unsuspecting dimwit Tobi, using the latter to carry out his means of revenge.

• Obito was one of the most promising Uchiha of his generation, forming an unlikely friendship with Kakashi (Gryffindor) and Rin (Gryffindor), considering he was a Slytherin like his parents before him. Heatedly argued with Kakashi ALL THE TIME, but found something always drew him back to the boy, so they became fast friends through their incessant bickering.

• Supposedly murdered by members of one of the early anti-Uchiha cults bent on the destruction of the powerful bloodline, long before the Ministry of Magic adopted the idea. Twelve year old Obito never made it to his third year to Hogwarts. However, the attempt on Obito’s life was not entirely successful (killing spell, Avada Kedavra).

• Before Obito’s soul was fully released from his body, it was snatched up by the creature Zetsu, who saw great potential in the power of a deviant Uchiha. What used to be Obito Uchiha was tainted by Black Zetsu after his soul spent a considerable time trapped within Zetsu’s shadowy vessel. At last, when Obito was consumed with bitterness and hate, Zetsu found Tobi and implanted Obito’s soul within him, giving him agency.

• (Considering this, it appears that Zetsu has abilities surpassing a Dementor’s, able to consume and spit out souls at a whim.)

• Although he believed he was a catalyst for the formation of the Akatsuki, it was the underpinning influence of Zetsu that led Obito to Nagato, resulting in the Akatsuki.

• Perhaps Obito would be able to recover his old self, if he was somehow able to remember who he truly was before Zetsu. Perhaps a familiar figure from his past…

harrypotterfreak14  asked:

"Please talk to me" for hinny? I feel like this should be after the battle but you are the writer so you decide :D

Oooh, I’ve never written Hinny before. I like to stick to my tried and true Romione, because I find Harry such a complex character to write from and I feel as though I don’t know that much about Ginny to write about or from her. Hope you find this alright! x

The moment he wakes up, he thinks two things.

Firstly, what does he need to do about the Horcruxes and Voldemort next.

Secondly, is Ginny okay, wherever she is.

And then he realises, as he glances around the four-post bed, in his room, in Gryffindor tower, in the Hogwarts castle, the place in which a few hours ago (days? weeks? months? how long has he slept?) Voldemort had been defeated, that he doesn’t need to worry, not anymore.

Ginny can finally be his first, foremost and only priority.

He’d put her last too many times. She was behind Ron, back when he started to realise he fancied her. She was behind Voldemort, when he realised he had to end things to focus on the task and not be kept consumed with her safety, which was in far too much jeopardy with him. She was behind his mission, his plan with Ron and Hermione, because though he needed all three of them, he couldn’t have her with him.

But now things are different.

He no longer has to share a part of himself, his life, with Voldemort.

He can do that with Ginny.

And he wants to, desperately. He stands up, and hurries down the stairs, looking for what, he’s not quite sure. Any sign that she’s there.

And by some miracle, she’s in the common room, talking to a younger student who’s waiting for his parents, keeping him company. Her eyes meet Harry’s, and he finally has a chance to look at her properly. She looks exhausted, pale, frail, but not weak, no– she’s the strongest woman he’s ever known.

The sight of her brings him peace - everything’s finally over.

The student runs over to his parents, who are stepping into the common room. Ginny, meanwhile, rushes over to Harry and gives him a fierce hug, which he returns just as strongly. He gives himself a moment to run his hands through her hair, realising he can finally let himself give into her.

“Harry,” she says softly, as though trying to convince herself he’s finally here and hers.

Harry stays quiet, holding her. Everything’s right with the world.

But as she releases him, the warmth of her embrace is gone and he finally finds himself being hit with the reality of what he’s faced in the last 24 hours, the last few months, the last 17 years.

Her expression shifts almost imperceptibly, but Harry knows her well enough to detect it.

“What is it?”

And Harry realises that though the war is over, the battle within him is far from it. He recalls too painfully: the pain of Godric’s Hollow, Hermione’s torture, the reality of his imminent and necessary death, seeing his parents and Dumbledore again, the long nights of hunger, isolation, desperation and hopelessness.

He’s been through so much, he doesn’t know where to begin.

“Harry,” she begins again, guiding him to the sofa and placing an arm around him. “Please, talk to me.”

Harry closes his eyes to avoid seeing the pain on her face - an anguished mix of seeing him suffering, and not knowing what to do about it because he won’t - refuses to - let her in and see what he’s feeling. He’s always been like that, far too much with her.

He doesn’t want her to have to deal with all this. She’s too important.

But he knows he has to tell her someday, exactly what happened to him, exactly why he’s done all the things he has to her (although, he suspects, she knows it), exactly what he wants for them (and again, she has to know that,  how much she means to him).

But right now, he’s far too tired. And she is too.

He rests his head in the crook of her neck and breathes her in. He doesn’t want to talk quite yet.

She lets him be, for now.

A Rant on Tomarry and Harrymort, BEWARE!

I am a fanfic writer. I personally discovered that I write gay fanfiction really well. I like to read it, write it, ship it, discuss it, and anything else involving my ships.

I have the tendency to ship the main antagonist and the main protagonist in every show, anime, manga, book, cartoon, etc… Harrymort and Tomarry are literally my favs out of everything. Whether it be male slash, female slash, or hetero pairing. Personally, I have 8 posted Tomarry fics and 4 posted Harrymort fics. I have 5 mixed HP/LV/TMR fics in the works. Some have genderbending and some don’t. Watermelonsmellinfellon on FF.net. (EDIT: I have many more fics now.)

I pimp out my other fics at the end of my chapters and literally, this person read only one chapter of one of my Harrymort fics and flamed me over the pairing. Voldemort murdered Harry’s parents. He’s a cold-hearted killer. He’s old and evil. I’m a sick person for even liking the pairing. They didn’t like the pairing to which I responded(since all of my fics are rated M and you have to actively search them out) about why they were even in the Harry/Voldemort section at all.

This has led me to rant, ‘cause I am pissed off with people’s stupidity.

Tom Riddle Character Analysis and How he Came to be That Way:

Tom was born on the last day on 1926. His mother died right after naming him. The workers in the orphanage didn’t know anything about her and as he grew up, they informed him that she was a member of a circus, because they assumed it about her. She wasn’t attractive and for some reason, couldn’t properly articulate herself. She was weird.

Tom is a magical child. All magical children are different then muggle children. Like Hermione Granger, who was much smarter and more advanced than her peers and was ostracized for it. Tom was much like Hermione. Smart. He had a level of understanding far above his peerage. Powerful. A level of control over his magic that normally isn’t seen in untrained wizards, let alone those who don’t know that they are magical. Charisma. Able to charm the pants off anyone around him.

The other children noticed that Tom was different than them. Better, smarter, and always had strange things happening to him. Children can be the most cruel beings on the planet and everyone set to alienating him. Whether through pure loathing or jealousy or even because they were weirded out, we don’t know. We do know, that Tom never had friends.

You have a brilliant child, growing up lonely, knowing that he is different from everyone else. Who is a subject of bullying. Who is an orphan with a bad idea of his parents. He either has four ways to respond to the way his life has turned out. Feel sorry for himself, ignore it all and hope they go away, be the ‘bigger man’(this term pisses me off a lot), or HATE - with a flaming passion - and destroy the opposition.

Tom has a mentality that he is alone and therefore only himself matters. So he would go with the option that best benefits himself. Getting even and then tearing his enemies down so they can’t ever bother him again, would obviously make him feel better. And that is what he does.

And he teaches the children some lessons. Some are morbid yes, but I feel no pity. You bite the bull, you get the horns.

And then he learned that he was magical. And Dumbledore listened to the words of a woman he barely knew, who didn’t like Tom at all, and regarded the boy with distrust. And the moment he heard Tom say that he could talk to snakes, Tom was public enemy number one! Over talking to snakes!

I feel that Dumbledore played a very large part in the creation of Voldemort. Tom was a muggle raised child, entering the wizarding world. He was sorted into a House that was notorious for disliking those not of pure blood. If Dumbledore knew that Tom was a Parselmouth, why did he let him go on? Why didn’t he inform Tom about his possible ancestry? Tom would have been treated better in his House had they known that he wasn’t a mudblood and that he was Slytherin’s Heir. But instead, Dumbledore withheld vital information and watched from afar, as if Tom was born as some sort of demon that was evil to the bone and had to be stalked at every moment.

Nature vs Nurture.

No one is born evil, racist, bigoted etc… It is how they are raised and the examples they are given, that shape who they are.

By Tom’s fifth year, he is interested in his ancestry and looks into it. Tom had hoped that his father was his magical parent but found no record of Riddle and had to live with the fact that his mother was the magical parent. He tracked his name Marvolo, to the Gaunts. Morfin Gaunt informed him that he was of the last of the Slytherin Line and looked a lot like Tom Riddle who lived in the ‘big house’. Tom now knows that his mother was a pureblood and not a ratty circus performer. And his father was a muggle aristocrat, who left her while she was pregnant. Who ran away.

Now, Tom has a dislike for muggles and muggleborns. Where did this come from?

The orphanage, where he was bullied and hated by everyone for being different. Hogwarts, where he was bullied and hated by his House for being a ‘mudblood’. And finally - here’s a little history lesson.

Tom had high aspirations. He wanted to be well known. On September 7th of 1940, Adolf Hitler ordered the London Blitz - which lasted until May of 1941. London was repeatedly bombed and 32,000 died from being blown to pieces and 87,000 were grievously injured. Remember, that WWII is happening in the muggle world. At the time, there was no telling how long it would last. No telling when the madness would end. And Tom faced going back to that, every summer. And he was denied his request to stay at Hogwarts. He could have died at any moment and no one would remember him. Or care. Leading to his fear of death and his search for immortality.

His dislike of muggles and muggleborns isn’t so shocking now… is it?

So, Tom doesn’t ever find out that his mother drugged his father with love potions. He is under the impression that his pureblood mother who was of noble heritage, was used and thrown aside by a filthy muggle.

In his mind, killing the Riddles was suitable revenge. (I personally feel that both Tom and Merope were in the wrong about many things, so I feel no pity for either of them.)

Tom’s lust for being immortal and memorable has already pervaded the story. He learned of Horcruxes and managed to make 2 before asking Slughorn if it was possible to make seven. Seven is a very powerful magical number and Tom wanted every possible protection from death. He was willing to kill to do it.

Tom continues in his life, gaining followers, magic, and reputation. He could have gone to the Ministry, but denied all offers in order to make connections at Borgin and Burke’s. He even tried for the DADA position again, but was turned away by none other than Dumbledore. In order to get even, he cursed the position.

His sanity began decreasing with every Horcrux he made, until he was a shell of his former self. He no longer thought things through. No longer cared for anything really. He was a husk with too much power.

And then his body is destroyed at he comes back 13 years later, restarting his pointless war, ‘fighting’ for a cause that labeled him as inferior. He obviously didn’t consider that for some reason. He obviously missed everything.

And his lack of sanity and complete disregard for anything besides himself, are what led to him being stuck in limbo for eternity.

Tom Marvolo Riddle(I am Lord Voldemort) is a flawed character. He would be boring if he wasn’t. I empathize with and pity him. I do not hate or dislike him. I am a little ashamed of some of the things he has done, but to be honest, I adore his character. And I really think that no one would be perfect for him, except Harry.

Harry Potter Character Analysis and How he Came to be That Way:

Harry was prophesied to be Tom’s equal. And the problem with the prophesy, is that it could be taken in many ways. In my fanfics, I have twisted that thing in every which way I could manage. Voldemort put the prophesy into action by marking his equal and unknowingly placing a piece of his soul inside said equal, gifting him with Parseltongue and making him a Horcrux.

Harry is a halfblood, like Voldemort is. Even similar in appearance, according to CoS Tom Riddle and the HP Wikia. Marked as his equal. Keeper of his soul, no matter how corny it sounds. Holder of his wand’s brother wand. An orphan who grew up in the muggle world, surrounded by people who hated him and wanted nothing to do with him. He was bullied constantly and no one stuck up for him. Who had no friends because of the bullies. Who was given incorrect information about his parents. Who managed to do strange things somehow. Who had powerful bouts of accidental magic. Who could talk to snakes. Who was a natural at DADA. Who was supposed to be in Slytherin. Was hated by a specific teacher for reasons beyond his control.

Controlled by Dumbledore to an extent. Forced to return to his hated place every summer. His decisions taken from him.

Their similarities can be terrifying. And yet, they have differences.

Harry wanted love. He wanted someone to rescue him. To care for him. He was willing to move in with a man he had only, a few hours prior, thought was a mass murderer bent on killing him. Harry longed so deeply, that he wore his heart on his sleeve. He was so compassionate, that he wouldn’t wish his sadness on others. And eventually, he did get what he wanted after much pain and heartbreak.

Harry sacrificed himself in the end and came back.

Tom on the other hand, deserved to be loved. All children do. But he was so fixed on being alone, he never considered the thought of being loved. If he had the care or at least dreamed about the care like Harry did, he would have been different. One act of kindness in his childhood could have shaped a completely different person.

But Tom ended up in limbo for eternity, because he was never shown a better way.

For the Tomarry and Harrymort pairings, my mind comes up with all manner of fanfics and ideas and I never tire of the pairing. I have so many just in my mind that it’s staggering!

-Voldemort overcoming his problems with Harry’s help.

-Harry being brought to freedom from worldly expectation by Voldemort or Tom Riddle.

-Tom Riddle learning love and happiness because of Harry.

-Both butting heads and learning’s to care for each other over a long and arduous time period.

-Pure smut just because it’s hot.

-Even darker pairings between them. Like both being bloodthirsty dark lords.

So many things we can do.

The best Harry Potter ship in my own opinion. Not that others are inadequate or bad, just that it is the best.

The understanding. The equality.

It gets to me. It really does.

Some may not agree and that’s all well land good. Your opinion is your own. But this right here, is my opinion.

Tomarry and Harrymort are great pairings with a plethora of avenues that can be twisted and molded for your pleasure.

No one’s complaints will ever convince me that this pairing is ‘insipid’ and ‘stupid’.

I’ll Wait

One-shot, Wrath. Rated G.

Description: “I can’t forgive myself,” he told her honestly, avoiding her gaze. “I’m just…trying to make it right, or at least better, you know? But I’m still so…so angry at the person that I was.” Ron and Hermione, Deathly Hallows missing moment.

Author’s Note: Highly recommended listening: “Little Do You Know” by Alex & Sierra. DH feels everywhere. “I’m ready to forgive you but forgetting is a harder fight” + “Little do you know all my mistakes are slowly drowning me” + “I’ll wait, I’ll love you like you never felt the pain”

I bit my lip to hold back from expressing my pain as Bellatrix Lestrange held me, tightly, by my hair. The dark walls and furniture of the Malfoys’ house was overwhelming, and my heart felt like it was beating faster than it ever had before. Bellatrix dragged me down a hallway and around a corner into a larger room, both her and my wand in her hand. In the room, a cloaked figure stood with its back to us, facing Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. When we entered, Bellatrix cleared her throat, causing the figure to turn around. My breath caught in my throat as I faced Lord Voldemort, in the flesh.

“Bella, who is this?” he said, looking at me. I looked away.

“A visitor.” Bellatrix snarled, yanking my head back by my hair. She pressed her lips forcefully onto my right ear and said, “For Draco.” My heart skipped a beat at the mention of his name.

Narcissa looked puzzled, but called out, “Draco! Honey, come here.”

He walked in from a different room. My lips parted as I was hit with the familiarity of his face, his hair, his eyes - him. When our eyes met, something washed over his face: fear, longing, or maybe both.

Draco swallowed and looked at his mother. “Yes?”

“Do you know this girl, Draco?” Lucius asked.

Draco looked at me again. He hesitated before saying, “No. Why?” We both knew the dangers we would face if we admitted what existed between the two of us.

Bellatrix cackled. “Well, sweetheart, we know that’s a lie.”

Draco’s face remained pretty neutral, but I saw his left eye slightly twitch, which was what always happened when he was nervous.

Bellatrix continued, “Our… sources, at Hogwarts have informed us that you two have been in a little… relationship.” she snarled. I swallowed, and thought back to being at Hogwarts with Draco. Everything was simpler then. I was happy. We were happy. Everything was different now.

Now here we were, and I was listening to Bellatrix Lestrange list all of the things Draco and I had done together at school - well, everything that could have been seen by others.

My next thought was of Harry. If these sources had seen me with my boyfriend, they most definitely had seen me with my best friend as well. I had to be brave for Harry. I had to be brave for myself. I had to be strong. I couldn’t let them know that I was weak, or this could end very, very badly.

I locked eyes with Draco and we just stared at each other, dreading and fearing what was about to happen next.

“Oh, and one more thing!” Bellatrix exclaimed, taking another opportunity to yank my hair, “She’s very close with Potter.”

Voldemort suddenly looked very interested in that. “Oh.” he said, twirling his wand between his long fingers.

“I don’t know where he is, if that’s why you brought me here.” I said, which was mostly true. Harry, Ron, and Hermione had gone to destroy all the remaining horcruxes, but I didn’t know where they were in that moment.

“Oh, honey. That’s not why you’re here.” Bellatrix said, and my heartbeat pounded like an angry fist on a locked door.

The Dark Lord looked between Draco and I. “Well, then. We obviously cannot have someone connected to us on Potter’s side. So, I’m going to give you a simple choice.” he said, looking right at me. I swallowed.

“You can join me… or you can die.”

I naturally looked at Draco. His eyes were widened and glued to mine. He shook his head ever so slightly, begging me not to do this.

I pried my eyes from his and looked at Voldemort.

There’s no way I could join him. Never. I could never do that to Harry. It’s basically a death sentence - that stamp on your arm. I’d rather die as a martyr than become one of them.

“Then you’re going to have to kill me.”

Draco immediately stepped forward and screamed, “NO! DON’T-”

“SILENCE, DRACO!” The Dark Lord yelled, flicking his wand at Draco.

The entire time I was being dragged here, I had been mentally preparing myself for the cruciatus curse. I thought for sure it would be used on me. But nothing, nothing, in the entire world could have prepared me for watching it happen to him.

I watched the boy I love more than anything crumble to the floor and cry out in excruciating pain. My cheeks immediately became home to a fucking waterfall of my tears, cascading down my face. Forget hiding my weakness. He was my weakness. Draco. And I knew in that moment that I loved Draco with all my heart. I loved him with my entire being, and nothing could ever get in the way of that.

The curse lifted, and Voldemort turned back to face me. Draco writhed on the floor. The Dark Lord lifted his wand, and I squeezed my eyes shut, my whole body tense, anticipating the curse.

“My Lord, killing the girl is an excellent solution to this situation, but I might have a more… interesting approach.” Bellatrix interfered. My body relaxed a bit, but her cold words were not at all comforting.

“And what might that be?” Voldemort asked.

I was even more terrified in that moment than I was, seconds earlier, waiting for death. I saw Draco slowly stand up, slightly trembling. My heart ached again at the sight of him in pain.

Bellatrix cackled before saying, “She can join us, or she can watch Draco die.”

My heart stopped.

The words echoed in my ears. She wasn’t actually suggesting killing her own nephew… with his parents right in the room? I realized then just how horrible it must have been for Draco to live here. He wasn’t loved. He wasn’t protected.

I looked over at him, and even more tears ran down my face. He stared back, and I could tell how petrified he was, although he was trying to hide it.

Voldemort smiled, which sent shivers down my spine. “I like that, Bella. So, what’ll it be, little girl?” he said.

There was no decision. The answer was clear.

Lucius and Narcissa said nothing.

I looked directly into Draco’s eyes as I rolled back my left shirt sleeve, exposing my bare forearm. “Okay,” I said, and paused when I saw a tear escape Draco’s right eye. I sighed. “I’ll join you.”

I forgot everything I had previously told myself about Harry. None of that mattered anymore if Draco’s life was at stake.

Bellatrix laughed menacingly and the Dark Lord smiled again.

“WHAT DID I JUST SAY, DRACO? CRUCIO!” Voldemort yelled.

I squeezed my eyes shut, tightly, desperately not wanting to witness Draco suffering for a second time. But closing my eyes did not mute his screams, which shattered my heart into a million pieces.

Then, my left arm exploded with pain. My eyes flew open and I watched the Dark Lord permanently brand a skull and a snake onto my forearm. The Dark Mark.

I screamed out in pain.

My knees buckled under me, but Bellatrix yanked me back up harshly by my hair. When it was finally over, my arm was on fire.

“Good choice, girly.” Bellatrix sneered into my ear. She released her grip on my hair and violently shoved me towards Draco. I staggered, but he caught me, grabbing me by the waist and pulling me into him. One of his hands found its way to the back of my head, and he hugged me so tightly as if I were about to slip through his fingers. I melted into him, inhaling his scent and breathing a sigh of relief.

“I guess we’re done here.” Voldemort said.

We were sat on his bed, facing each other, our legs intertwined. Draco gently traced his fingers over the fresh, raw mark on my forearm.

“Why did you do it?” he whispered, looking down at my arm. He said it so quietly that I wouldn’t have been able to hear him if his face wasn’t inches from mine.

I looked at his face. His nose was slightly pink from crying earlier. I sighed, mentally searching for the words to say next.

“I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you died.” I whispered back.

He still didn’t look up at me. “I can’t believe you did this.” he said softly, and then lightly pressed his warm lips to the ink on my arm.

“I didn’t have a choice.” I said, a bit harsher than I’d meant it.

“Yes you did. You could’ve-”

“Draco.” I said, cutting him off. His head finally snapped up. I looked into those blue-grey eyes that I knew so well and said, “Nothing in the entire world is worth losing you.” I put my hand on his left cheek and gently pushed my lips on to his. He kissed me back, deepening the kiss and pulling me closer to him. As his hands ran through my hair, I could feel the blood rushing through my veins.

After a moment, he pulled away and whispered, “You’re all I have left.”

My heart ached. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Orion/Hadrian :)

(No more requests please.)

I totally knew someone was going to send this. So. Have some CLV spinoffs and snippets that idk will ever show up in the main fic.

1. Angst

“Let me come with you,” Orion pleads, casting his mind around for a good argument, any argument, to make Hadrian relent.  “I can help you hunt those- those Horcruxes.  I know I’m still in school but I’m good with magic, and I’m a werewolf! I can help!”

Hadrian stares at him for a long, strained minute before nodding once. “Fine.  But I’m leaving tomorrow.”

Orion doesn’t know how he didn’t hear the lie.  He wakes up in the morning and Hadrian is gone, and he isn’t even really surprised. He realizes Hadrian left him behind for his own good, for his own safety, for his parents who will go out of their minds if Orion really disappeared on some crazy adventure to destroy the Dark Lord, but none of that prevents him from feeling the sting of betrayal, and for the first time since they became friends, he wishes Hadrian would stop protecting him.

2. AU (somehow this one turned out a lot more Neville-oriented than I planned)

“So you’re the Boy Who Lived?”  Curious green eyes study an anxious Neville closely before shrugging, not at all impressed the way all the other children his grandmother’s made him meet have been.  “I’m Hadrian Potter.” He pulls another boy forward, same age as the two of them but he sticks to Hadrian’s side, and the tilt of his chin is defiant as he looks Neville straight in the eye. “This is my cousin, Orion. Someone’s already told you he’s a werewolf, right? And probably all the horror stories that go with it? So we can skip all that and I’ll just tell you one thing – you hurt him in any way and no one will ever find your body.”

Hadrian Potter is shorter than Neville, smaller too, his hair is fluffy and messy and fall into his eyes, and while Neville is chubby, at least he isn’t as delicate-looking as Hadrian. The other boy could not look more harmless if he tried, and yet, somehow, Neville has no doubt he’s telling the absolute truth, and if Neville hurts Orion, Hadrian will find a way to get rid of Neville so that even Gran won’t be able to find him.

But before Neville can figure out how to respond, Orion elbows Hadrian, who returns it with a swift fierce glance, one that Orion rolls his eyes at but also makes him smile, and Neville feels a pang of envy because he doesn’t have anybody like that. He doesn’t have friends, period, not really. And then they’re both staring at him again, and Neville ducks his head and hastily blurts out, “I don’t- I mean, Gran told me about werewolves and- and Orion-” And she didn’t seem too pleased about Neville interacting with one but she didn’t tell him not to either. “-and I don’t- I don’t care!”

Which might be a lie because what Gran told him made him nervous, but people make him nervous anyway, in fact sometimes getting out of bed in the morning makes him nervous, so Neville figures they’re all about the same thing, and he’ll just have to fight through it the same way he always has everything else.

His answer seems to satisfy the two boys a little at least, although Orion still doesn’t talk to him, and Hadrian gives him another stare like he’s trying to pick out any dishonest bits in Neville’s expression. But they both relax, which is more than Neville can say, right up until Hadrian suggests, “Right then. I guess you’re okay. Wanna go play Hungry Hungry Hippos?”

Neville instantly brightens because nobody’s ever offered to play with him before, they usually just want to know if Neville’s defeated any dragons like in the storybooks or if he remembers Voldemort, and they’re always disappointed when he says no.

“What’s Hungry Hungry Hippos?” Neville asks, bracing himself for a scoff, but he doesn’t get one, and it’s Orion who tells him quietly, “Muggle game. It’s fun, and easy to learn. Aunt Lily- Hadrian’s mum, bought it for us last month.”

“You’ll like it,” Hadrian promises, leading the way to what Neville assumes is one of their bedrooms. “And if you don’t, we can always play something else.”

It’s the start of a beautiful friendship.

3. Crack

Hadrian is Alpha, which means if Orion doesn’t bite, he gets belly rubs. Alpha gives the best belly rubs in the world.

4. Future fic

They’re both thirty-two, Hadrian going on forty, Orion going on thirty-three, and where the former goes, Orion still follows. Aunt Lily was a little worried about that when they were younger (”But isn’t there something you want to do? A career you want to go into? University perhaps?”), and Orion suspects that at least part of the reason Hadrian applied to the Draíocht Academy in Ireland was so that Orion could explore various fields of study to his heart’s content (and they both ended up enjoying their five years there so Orion can’t complain), but his dad understood, and his father understood even more, that instinct is so very intrinsic to a werewolf’s nature, and that once they’ve found Pack, there really isn’t anywhere else they’d rather be, because nowhere else would be as good. If Orion wants to learn, he can always pick up a book.

And here they are, over a decade down the road, and they’re still together, in more than one sense of the word, travelling the world the way Orion has always - on some level - known Hadrian wanted to do, without the urgent threat of a Dark Lord hanging over his head, and Hadrian’s long since given up on asking if Orion is sure he doesn’t want to do something else. Travelling appeals to Orion too, and not just because of Hadrian. There’s so much to see out there, to learn, to experience - he can’t imagine why anyone would want to stay shut up in an office all day.

They stay in spacious hotels smack in the middle of a huge city or cozy magical tents tucked in the midst of a jungle or quaint little inns that are sometimes haunted by ghosts. Somewhere along the way, they pick up a cockblocking kneazle that wrinkles its nose at Orion and serves as a possessive scarf for Hadrian, and Orion learns to live with it.

They visit home at least a few times a year, and they’re always punctual for Yule. Sometimes, they get an extra travel companion for a couple months, when Severus wants potion ingredients for some research project, or Gabrielle gets a week off from training for her next skating competition, or Luna just because.

Orion doesn’t mind. He’s known all of them long enough to consider them friends or at least friendly acquaintances, and he’s not quite as reticent as he used to be, not when he’s living a happier life than a lot of people can claim.

And at night, on occasion, lying curled up beside Hadrian, he thinks back to a fourteen-year-old boy who never in a million years thought he would have anything close to what Orion has now.

5. First time (dancing)

“Still hate balls?” Orion enquires as they fall into step with the beat of a waltz, switching easily yet again from male to female roles for this dance and letting Hadrian lead.

“I suppose it could be worse,” Hadrian allows, but he’s grinning, and it’s genuine even with the lingering bags under his eyes and the thinness that came with not enough regular meals during wartime. Nobody fought harder than Hadrian, and it shows, even weeks after Voldemort was defeated.

The song ends. Another begins. They switch it up again so that Orion is leading this time, and the smooth transition is somewhat astonishing considering they’ve never danced together before.

“Still not my favourite activity though, even if you are by far my favourite partner,” Hadrian mutters, and Orion starts feeling distinctly hot under his collar. He catches Hadrian’s eye, huffing exasperatedly when the Hufflepuff smiles knowingly at him. Somehow, it manages to calm Orion down instead of embarrassing him further.

“Buffet table after this one?” Orion offers as they spin past another pair, and he barks out a laugh at the relieved look he gets in reply.

6. Fluff

“I can see why you’re a Gryffindor,” Hadrian murmurs, tipping his head back just enough to meet Orion’s gaze, somehow challenging and terrified at the same time.

Orion just frowns harder and makes no move to get up from where he boldly straddled Hadrian’s lap not a minute ago and kissed him.

“You said to wait until Voldemort was dead,” Orion reminds him in steely tones. “He’s been dead three years now. You said to wait a few years. I turned twenty as of six hours ago. You said to wait to make sure I wasn’t confusing gratitude with love.” His pale cheeks flush but he doesn’t look away. “I’ve loved you since I was fifteen. I had an entire year and a half before that to get the whole gratitude issue out of the way, so I can say with absolute certainty that I still love you, and that isn’t going to change. Now do you have any other excuses to throw at me? Or-” He swallows. “Or you could just tell me that you don’t feel the same-”

He shuts up when Hadrian presses both a whisper of a sigh and then a firm kiss against his lips, hands coming up to frame his face, and he’s rigid for all of two seconds before he practically melts with relief.

“Only if you’re sure,” Hadrian says once he pulls back, serious in a way he rarely is, but focused so much on Orion, like there’s no one more important, and how can Orion possibly not love him back when Hadrian’s been looking at him like that - knowingly or not - since before Orion even finished his final year at Hogwarts?

Orion hauls him back in for another kiss. “I’m sure. Now kiss me again before my dad knocks down the door with a camera.”

Their next kiss is full of a quiet easy laughter that Orion will never get tired of.

7. Humor

Honestly, Hadrian isn’t that much older than his circle of friends. But sometimes, he still gets mocked and called ‘old man’ whenever they want to be funny. His friends either need a new sense of humour, or he needs new friends.

8. Hurt/Comfort

Orion doesn’t know how to comfort people, not really. He has zero experience doing it after all. But he’s a werewolf with even less qualms about murder than his father - who is mostly genial and kind and diplomatic and patient but still has all the killer instincts of the beast inside him - and when Bellatrix Lestrange manages to hold a Crucio on Hadrian long enough to make him - of all people - scream, Orion calmly carries Hadrian to safety, calmly ensures the best healers are tending to him, calmly waits until they assure him that Hadrian would be alright, and then he promptly disappears for the next three weeks.

He doesn’t return home until he can lay the bloody carcass of Voldemort’s most fanatical follower at Hadrian’s feet.

gibby0397 said: Hello Cassie! First off I just want to let you know you are like one of my absolute favorite authors and your series is amazing! Ok I have one question… What would have happened to Sebastian if the heavenly fire burned all the evil away but he had lived? Just a question that’s been on my mind….

I answered this very early in the City of Heavenly Fire after-release process, and since I’ve been getting lots of questions about Sebastian, I thought I would re-blog… .

agarotaquasesemhistorias said: Hey Cassie! You’re one of my favorite writers of all times!!! I think CP2 actually made accidental horcruxes of mine because my soul was definetly shattered. Well, I’ve always loved Sebastian’s character, because his story is so complex and there’s so much we don’t know about him. I wish we had gotten more time to see what he could’ve been… Is that possible? To see a what if? Also Jem believed in reincarnation. Is it true in the story?

I wouldn’t want to commit to a specific what if. There are too many factors that have gone into making Jonathan who he is. A Jonathan with demon blood, but not raised by Valentine is one thing. A Jonathan without demon blood, but raised by Valentine is something else. A Jonathan without demon blood and not raised by Valentine might be what we saw in Clary’s dream — that’s as close to a what-if as I think we’ll ever get.

As for Jem being right — I can’t tell you what happens when you die. I don’t know. The characters in the book don’t know. Jem believes what he believes. But none of them, even if they are Shadowhunters, have the answer to life after death.

herondalectable said: In CoLS Clary (sees Sebastian’s whip marks and) wonders why Valentine would “whip one boy but not the other.” I don’t think this was ever answered. Sebastian says it’s a lesson about the price of obedience, but I don’t feel that that was ever explained any further. What exactly did he mean? And why was he the only one whipped? And why did Valentine keep Sebastian, but send Jace away?

Connecting up the whippings and the fact that Valentine kept Sebastian but sent Jace away is smart. Valentine explains why he did that in City of Glass:

“It wasn’t a son I needed,” Valentine said. “It was a soldier. I had thought Jonathan might be that soldier, but he had too much of the demon nature in him. He was too savage, too sudden, not subtle enough. I feared even then, when he was barely out of infancy, that he would never have the patience or the compassion to follow me, to lead the Clave in my footsteps. So I tried again with you. And with you I had the opposite trouble. You were too gentle. Too empathic. You felt others’ pain as if it were your own; you couldn’t even bear the death of your pets. Understand this, my son—I loved you for those things. But the very things I loved about you made you no use to me.”

Luke explains why Valentine kept Jonathan and sent away Jace:

“And if you ask me, I think Valentine sent you to the Lightwoods because he knew it was the best chance for you. Maybe he had other reasons too. But you can’t get away from the fact that he sent you to people he knew would love you and raise you with love. It might have been one of the few things he ever really did for someone else.” (CoG)

Jace talks to Sebastian about Valentine’s feelings:

Sebastian was still grinning, but it was a rictus grin, like a skull’s. “You’re the angel boy. I had to hear all about you. You with your pretty angel face and your pretty manners and your delicate, delicate feelings. You couldn’t even watch a bird die without crying. No wonder Valentine was ashamed of you.”

“No.” Jace forgot the blood in his mouth, forgot the pain. “You’re the one he’s ashamed of. You think he wouldn’t take you with him to the lake because he needed you to stay here and open the gate at midnight? Like he didn’t know you wouldn’t be able to wait. He didn’t take you with him because he’s ashamed to stand up in front of the Angel and show him what he’s done. Show him the thing he made. Show him you.” Jace gazed up at Sebastian—he could feel a terrible, triumphant pity blazing in his own eyes. “He knows there’s nothing human in you. Maybe he loves you, but he hates you too.” (CoG 473-474)

Valentine whipped Sebastian because 1) he felt differently about him than he did about Jace, and the way we treat people depends on how we feel about them. 2) Sebastian was a living reminder of the evil Valentine had committed. 3) Maybe he loved him, but he hated him, too. 4) Sebastian was inclined to do terrible things which “required” disciplining (abuse, in Valentine’s case) and Jace wasn’t. He also sent Jace away when he was ten and kept Sebastian, and he would be more likely to whip an older boy than a younger one.

herondalectable said:Lastly, throughout TID it is discussed how the offspring of a demon and a Shadowhunter will be stillborn (unless, of course, the Shadowhunter is Unmarked). So I guess my last question is, how did Sebastian even survive birth? As I said, he is one of the most fascinating characters I’ve ever encountered. In fact, that’s probably the reason I’d like more clarification on why he is the way he is and how he came to be. Honestly, you’re one of my writing idols and I’d just really like to know how you created such a complex character.P.S. One more question, I feel like his remains being put into Lake Lyn/the Mortal Mirror is significant. Is there a possibility he can come back years later and redeem himself, or is this something that’s purely headcanon?

Sebastian isn’t the offspring of a demon and a Shadowhunter.

I am delighted that you are fascinated by Sebastian — I don’t think of him as a martyr, though, or as likely to rise from the ashes. The symbolism of putting his remains in Lake Lyn is whatever you choose to read into it. Why return the ashes of a boy who created a dark race of Shadowhunters to the place where Shadowhunters were first created? Why not?

onceinsideatardis said: Part 1 of 2- Hello! First, I would like to say that I am a big fan of your writing and love your books. (also I would like to thank you for taking the time to actually include LGBTQA+ characters. Every bit of positive representation helps) I loved the commentary on the differences between feelings of possession and actual love that the Sebastian/Clary dynamic provided, especially in CoHF, but I am a bit confused by what you intended to convey at the end of his arc. The Jonathan Morgenstern we saw at the end of CoHF was what he would have been without the demon blood, but I would like to ask how Valentine’s upbringing would have affected a Jonathan like this (one without demon blood). Would he have turned out evil (like he did with the demon blood) or as a person more like Jace?

Well, think about Valentine himself, and the difference between Valentine and Sebastian.

Valentine was not a good person. He didn’t have demon blood. He was just a zealot who was willing to sacrifice everything to a bigoted cause. However, he believed that he was in the right (and he wasn’t entirely wrong about the Clave sucking, though not for the reasons he thought it did.)

Sebastian on the other hand is a monster almost out of a horror story. He wants to burn the world down, he sexually assaults his sister, he kills happily and at random and his intent is to cause pain and destroy lives: it’s not just collateral damage. In City of Glass, we learn that Sebastian was so horrible that even Valentine was put off by him. That’s the demon blood.

It is likely that if he had been raised by Valentine, Jonathan would have been affected by that upbringing even if he hadn’t had demon blood, yes, but he probably wouldn’t have been basically a demon in human form. Seb/Jonathan is a mixture of bad impulses and bad upbringing. Certainly I had no intention to imply that if he hadn’t had demon blood, he would have been an angel of light: we’ve no idea what he would have been like, and we never will know. What I intended to convey at the end of his arc was simply the tragedy of wasted potential. Jonathan himself says that he isn’t a real person after Glorious burns out the demon blood, he’s like Clary’s dream of him, a possible Jonathan that could have existed but never actually did. When Clary cries while she’s burying him, she’s very specifically crying over the brother who never got to live, not Sebastian. They are two different people; it’s simply that one never really existed outside the realm of Edom, where things are numinous and dreams both good and bad take shape.

Did you ever think about not having Sebastian/Jonathan die at the end, but having him live after being cured by Glorious?

Definitely not. I’m not opposed to letting a redeemed villain live under some circumstances, but the things Sebastian did were beyond any redemption. What was left, the tiny shreds of good, were barely enough to keep him alive for a few minutes.

You can argue that they’re basically two different people — good!Jonathan and bad!Jonathan — and I’d agree, but good!Jonathan was still largely a what-might-have-been. The consequences of letting him live would have been awful anyway: the Clave wouldn’t consider him a “different’ person and would sentence him to death, no one on Team Good except maybe Jocelyn would be able to look at him without feeling queasy, poor Isabelle and Alec and Jace would be constantly faced with the spectre of the guy who murdered their brother — and poor Clary, Jesus. On top of that, poor imaginary good!Jonathan. One of my favorite bits of TV pop culture was the curse in Buffy that gave Angel the vampire his soul back, because it made the punishment for his years of evil simply the agony of having to suffer the memory of committing that evil with a conscience. It drove him insane and he ended up eating rats on the street. Letting Jonathan live wouldn’t have been a favor; it would have been a punishment.

I really, really need fic about Jonathan Morgenstern being a good brother to Clary with Jocelyn and Luke and being normal Shadowhunter family and stuff. Please, please someone write it….. — clockworkprim

Someone probably will. :)

anonymous asked:

Lily dies and James has to raise Harry with Sirius.

There was a really cool post that was about James sacrificing himself for Lily and Harry and I added to it what I thought that might be like, so if you wanna check out that it’s here. Credit to the original post.

So I’m thinking that somehow in this AU Lily’s sacrificed her life and her love then saved both James and Harry.

James would see Lily’s dead body and his heart would completely and utterly break and if took all of his strength not to collapse and hold her body close to him again but he knew he had to get Harry as far away from Godric’s Hollow as possible.

He would go to Remus and Sirius’, never having believed either of them were the traitor and he’s hit with the realisation who the traitor actually was.

Remus is there as he and Sirius rarely spend time in the same house anymore. Sirius is actually at Godric’s Hollow with Hagrid, they both think that all three of the Potters have died.

Thankfully, Remus manages to get word to Sirius and he returns home before he goes on a manhunt for Pettigrew, he would later be the hunted man and not Sirius.

James would suffer PTSD and depression , his wife was just murdered and he only just survived and attempt on his own life and his son’s. If it wasn’t for Harry, he would have likely taken his own life. But with Sirius and Remus’ help, the hole Lily left doesn’t get filled, but it’s not as hard.

They would all mourn Lily. Remus missing his first bestfriend, remembering he bubbly redhead who introduced herself in their first year, the book worm, his first and very awkward kiss, the girl who grew to be someone he confided in outside of the marauders. Sirius would miss her presence, he respected her in so many ways, she was a feminist and the only person, besides Dumbledore, who could control James, she bought him muggle records and he took her out on his bike. James missed his soul mate, the girl who he’d been in love with for so many years, the mother of his child. They all knew that they’d never here her laugh or her telling them all to ‘shut the fuck up’, they’d never see her smile or her rolling her eyes at their shinanigans and they’d only ever see her green eyes and kindness again in Harry.

I think that James would have poured all his love and energy into raising Harry, knowing that’s what Lily would have wanted.

James would take Harry to his mother’s funeral, which would have over 200 people paying their respects and raise him with stories and a healthy memory of his mother.

All three of them would not want Harry growing up a celebrity for that night so although he’s not sheltered from the magical world, he’s still fairly sheltered from the society that adores him for something that happened when he was an infant.

Remus and Sirius would forgive each other and slowly begin to become close again, not just for Harry and James’ benefit but their own, too.

Harry would be raised by The Infamous Pranksters of Hogwarts and that would definitely show. Prank Wars would definitely take place. Remus and Harry vs. James and Sirius. James and Harry vs. Remus and Sirius. Harry, Remus and Sirius vs. James. Harry vs. his dad and uncles. The possibilities were endless.

Harry would be raised with a knowledge of Remus’ condition and would hate the prejudices against his kind.

I don’t believe in The Butterfly Effect so I still think that Harry’s life would have gone the same way just with some major differences now he had a dad and uncles to be by his side throughout it…

Although Snape could be cruel, he would never do anything too obvious as James would so be on his case if he did, even with Neville, who the Marauders and Harry often visited and have stay for tea as they were close with his parents.

Harry would still be overwhelmed by the amount of people who idolise him and he still wouldn’t take much happiness in it.

He would still be best friends with Ron and Hermione.

James would present him with the cloak, not Dumbledore.

He’d see exactly the same thing in The Mirror of Erised his mother and father stood beside him, just with Sirius and Remus there too.

He would still defeat Quirrel because he’d be even more of a sneaky little shit.

Things might go differently in his 2nd year as Harry would probably know that a suspicious looking object like the diary should probably be reported to someone but then maybe he’d still feel the need to take things into his own hands James would be so proud that his son killed a fucking basilisk with the fucking sword of Gryffindor.

He would so try and keep a straight face when Remus tells him his son flew a Ford Anglia to Hogwarts. Luckily, he MANAGES it. Sirius definitely doesn’t.

So maybe it’s Peter that escapes in POA? The dementors surround Hogwarts. Remus takes up the post of Defence against the Dark Arts as they want to keep an eye on Harry as they know his tendencies to wander off. Remus also teaches him how to defend himself against dementors and keeps his promise when Harry asks him not to tell James that he hears Lily’s screams  when the dementors get too close.

Just for the sake of Peter getting what’s coming to him, the dementors catch him. Remus and Sirius attend his trial, where he’s announced guilty and given the punishment of the dementors kiss but James visits Lily’s grave with Harry that day.

James, Sirius and Remus would join Harry and the Weasleys at The Quidditch World Cup. They’d so join in with Ron’s fangirling. They’d also join the older Weasleys when the death eaters arrive, and join in when Mr Weasley says Harry obviously didn’t cast the dark mark.

I’m sorry but no way would James, Sirius and Remus allow Harry to take part in The Triwizard Tournament, magical contract or not. (’THE FUCK IS THIS? HE’S 14. I WILL SUE THAT CUP I SWEAR. NO FUCK OFF CROUCH, THIS IS MY SON WE’RE TALKING ABOUT’

So this means Harry can have a fairly normal year, fancying Cho, buying Fred and George’s products, seeing Ron and Hermione’s very obvious UST and sneaking around when he sees Barty Crouch’s names on the map.

He still ends up taking a portkey to the graveyard though (Barty/Moody would see to that) and witnesses the death of Cedric and the resurrection of Voldemort. He manages to fight him and sees his mother ghost come out of Voldemort’s wand. She tells him to be strong and fight him off. Later, when the truth has been revealed about Barty Crouch Jr. and James is sitting with Harry, Harry tells him that he saw Lily and James just smiles sadly, even in death Lily is SAVING  their lives.

In OOTP, Harry would have help in recovering from his own PTSD from James and his uncles. He definitely would not be kept in the dark about The Order.

Umbridge would still be bitching it about and Harry wouldn’t tell his dad about his detentions, not wanting to worry him but he would definitely tell him about the DA and receive lots of support from him and Sirius and Remus.

Sirius would still find it hard visiting his old home but as he can leave whenever he wanted, it wouldn’t be as bad.

Voldemort would use James to get into Harry’s head and it would be with his father in mind that he rushes to The Ministry of Magic. Sirius doesn’t die (because this is my AU so of course Sirius doesn’t die) and later when Dumbledore tells him about the prophecy James is there and he absolutely freaks. (‘DO YOU NOT THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD US THIS, I DON’T KNOW, 15 YEARS AGO?’)

Harry would keep James updated about his horcrux talks with James because no way would Dumbledore ask him to keep it a secret from his dad.

James is there with The Order when Dumbledore is killed by Snape and there by Harry’s side at Dumbledore’s funeral.

Harry would tell James that he’s going to hunt Horcruxes and tell him that he can’t stop him from going that he’s of age now. James would offer to go with him, like Remus did, but Harry would turn him down and tell him that he’s already lost one parent, he doesn’t need to lose another.

James, Sirius and Remus, along with everyone else, would be worried sick but throw their energy into fighting Voldemort and bringing down the deatheaters.

They’d all be there at the Battle of Hogwarts and Harry would run towards his dad and practically tackles him to the ground when he sees him arrive with the order.

It’s only his mother that comes with the resurrection stone but Lily gives Harry enough strength to do what he has to do.

Remus has to physically hold James up when he sees Harry being carried by Hagrid. His knees collapse beneath him because Harry, his son, the only part of Lily he had left just couldn’t be dead. He unashamedly cries with relief when he sees Harry jump up.

James, Sirius and Remus are still very alive in the aftermath of the war and grieve for the lost but they would also be there in the hope and the happiness, in the births of all their many nieces and nephews and grandchildren (even those not by blood).

Harry would tell them about how Snape truly was on their side and was helping them.

Would James love again? I think he would, he deserves to be happy and Harry and Lily would want that. Lily was his soul mate but I still think he could be happy and grow old with someone.

Although Harry’s life would be similar, it would simultaneously be so different with constant paternal figures there to advise him and look after him throughout it.

Harry wouldn’t call his son, ‘the only one who had inherited Lily’s green eyes’, Albus Severus.

Sorry I’ve probably missed so much out here but here you go!

Heavenly Commentary: Deathly Hallows Pt1
  • Sirius: I can't believe he broke the mirror.
  • James: Didn't really need it, did he?
  • Sirius: Still. I liked that mirror.
  • ***
  • Lily: That's a nice little tribute.
  • Albus: Yes. Elphias always was a generous man. Although Rita Skeeters is far more thrilling.
  • James: Harry thinks otherwise.
  • Albus: He will learn the truth. That no one is without regret. Rita Skeeter was surprisingly quick.
  • Cedric: Even dead we can't get rid of her.
  • ***
  • James: I never thought I'd see Harry trying so hard to save these people. After everything they’ve done to him.
  • Lily: Our son is better than us both.
  • ***
  • James: That was downright emotional for Dudley.
  • Albus: I imagine that he is beginning to see through the veil of his youth. One’s parents are not always correct.
  • ***
  • James: The guard is all here.
  • Lily: Obviously. Oh yeah. How was Moony’s wedding?
  • Sirius: Simple. You know him. Not an extravagant bone in his body.
  • James: I'm betting Tonks got an extravagant bon-OW!
  • Lily: Shut up!
  • ***
  • Cedric: Seven Harry Potters fly out of a house. What does Voldemort do?
  • Albus: He will assume they will give the real Harry to Alastor. As he is the strongest wizard present. He is unable to understand that strength is not the factor here.
  • Sirius: I don't understand. Who is taking Harry?
  • Albus: Hagrid of course. There is no one there who loves Harry quite like Hagrid.
  • ***
  • James: Even dead you're right.
  • Albus: It appears not all habits die hard.
  • ***
  • Lily: I have a bad feeling. Nothing is ever this easy.
  • James: Oh shit. No!
  • Hedwig: Hoot hoot.
  • Cedric: Trust me. I know.
  • ***
  • James: I thought he was going to die.
  • Lily: How did Harry do that? He didn't look in any shape to defend himself.
  • Albus: I have my theories. But imagine the suspense if I choose not to share them.
  • Sirius: I never said this when we were alive but, you're a dick.
  • Alastor: I said that constantly.
  • Albus: Old friend! It's terrible to see you here. Welcome to the party.
  • Alastor: Where are we?
  • Albus: The next great adventure. Your appearance is rather disconcerting with two normal eyes.
  • ***
  • Lily: Poor George.
  • James: Everyone is going crazy. They've been betrayed.
  • Sirius: And of course Snape cursed his ear off. Part of the plan Albus?
  • Albus: Let's find out.
  • ***
  • Alastor: Grieve later fools. Fight the war now.
  • Cedric: Constant vigilance?
  • Alastor: Exactly.
  • ***
  • James: Remus says Harry is like me and yet he makes it sound like an insult.
  • Lily: Because it was. Something is broken inside of him.
  • ***
  • Sirius: They've done all this?
  • James: They're children going to war. What do you expect?
  • ***
  • Lily: That had the feeling of a kiss goodbye.
  • Alastor: Smart girl.
  • ***
  • James: Happy birthday harry.
  • Lily: He's all grown up now.
  • James: But he's still our boy.
  • ***
  • Sirius: You left them stuff?
  • Albus: But of course. A few trinkets I hope will be of use. Oh Rufus. If only you put this energy into helping me.
  • ***
  • James: The Snitch he swallowed. Damn it but that's genius.
  • Albus: Thank you.
  • Lily: “I open at the close”?
  • Albus: I have always appreciated a healthy use of theatricality.
  • ***
  • Lily: Of course Luna would recognise him. I really do adore that girl.
  • ***
  • James: Do you remember our wedding?
  • Lily: I'll never forget it.
  • James: I wish we could have had something like this. Not the rushed one we had.
  • Lily: It was perfect and I'll never think otherwise.
  • ***
  • Albus: Ah fate. It is always nice to know when one is on the right path.
  • Sirius: ...ok?

  • Cedric: Why are they being so nice?
  • Sirius: It’s not actually mercy if they can't actually kill them.

  • Alastor: What?
  • Cedric: I'll fill you in.
  • Hedwig: Hoot.

  • James: Oh man, do you remember that picture?
  • Sirius: Last day of our first year. We were children.
  • James: But not for very long

  • Lily: I remember that letter. What happened to the rest of it?
  • James: Probably Snape. Greasy bastard.

  • ***
  • Sirius: Regulus, oh God. You did...why didn't you tell me?
  • James: Like Hermione said. He was trying to protect you

  • Alastor: Fools! Do they think these kids are going to school?
  • Sirius: They don't think. Wow, Kreacher looks...happy.
  • Cedric: I guess that's what happens when you're treated with common decency.
  • ***
  • Lily: Do you think they're ready?
  • Alastor: As ready as they'll ever be.
  • ***
  • Sirius: Don't ask a teenage boy what he was doing in the bathroom, Hermione. You may not like the answer.
  • Lily: I swear I will hit you.

  • Albus: Let the games begin.
  • ***
  • Lily: Those are muggle bodies. I think I'm going to be sick.
  • ***
  • James: That's why he was so eager to get to work. His wife is on trial.
  • Lily: It’s not a trial. It's a sentencing.
  • ***
  • Lily: Holy shit. It's her!
  • Cedric: Why can't they just take the locket and run?
  • James: Because they don't know if she still has it. And stealth is still needed.
  • Albus: Also because that man is the Minister himself.
  • ***
  • Alastor: I think I preferred it when Crouch Jnr had it.

  • Cedric: Mr Weasley is terrifying.
  • James: I think Harry agrees.

  • Lily: Well so much for stealth!
  • James: Don't look at me like that! He's your son too!
  • Sirius: They might actually make it out.
  • Lily: Crap! Yaxley has them! He's seen Grimmauld Place!
  • Cedric: So where are we now?
  • ***
  • Lily: Ron must be really afraid if he's stopped saying “Voldemort”.
  • Albus: Perhaps not the most foolish of precautions.
  • ***
  • Alastor: You know why he's after Gregorovitch, don't you Albus.
  • Albus: I do. I'm curious to see if it will work.
  • ***

  • Albus: Therein lies the question.
  • ***
  • Lily: He left...

  • Albus: Perhaps.

  • James: He doesn't care about the sword. He wants to go home.
  • Lily: Back to where it all started.
  • ***
  • James: Welcome home Lily.
  • Lily: I never thought th- they built us a statue?
  • James: Damn right they did.
  • Sirius: Where’s my statue? Bastards.
  • James: Why would they build you one idiot? You helped kill us. Remember?
  • ***
  • Cedric: I thought Dumbledore would be here to see his family’s graves. But I'm guessing he's actually with them now so never mind.
  • ***
  • Lily: He's crying...
  • James: So are we...
  • ***
  • James: Do you think they would've gone to all this trouble if Voldemort hadn’t been defeated?
  • Lily: Of course not. We'd have been just three more victims.
  • ***
  • James: Something isn't right. Bathilda was the sharpest woman I've ever met.
  • Lily: And now she looks...dead.
  • Albus: That would be because she is indeed deceased.
  • Sirius: How could you know that?
  • Albus: I just came from visiting her.
  • Cedric: Then who is that?
  • Alastor: What, not who. And that is Bait.
  • ***
  • Sirius: Holy fucking shit!
  • James: Run Harry!
  • Lily: Hermione! That was close. What's wrong with him?
  • Albus: I believe he is trapped inside the memories of Voldemort. The memories associated with the last time he stood there.
  • Lily: Oh...
  • ***
  • James: Grindelwald?!?
  • ***
  • Lily: Do you have anything to say?
  • Albus: Keep watching.
  • ***
  • James: Is that a...
  • Lily: Snape. That's his patronus.
  • Cedric: How do you know?
  • Lily: Because that's mine.
  • ***
  • Lily: Take the Horcrux off. Take the Horcrux off. Take the Horcrux off.
  • James: Dammit Harry.
  • Cedric: This can't end well.
  • ***
  • Cedric: I take that back!
  • Sirius: About damn time Ron!
  • ***
  • Lily: Family.
  • ***
  • James: This is genuinely hilarious.
  • Cedric: Hermione is a badass.
  • Lily: So cute. They're all back together.
  • ***
  • Albus: Ah boys. I wish I was there to help. But alas I am not.
  • ***
  • Alastor: More breadcrumbs Albus? If you trust Severus so much why didn't you just give him a letter to send to them?
  • Albus: Old friend, in this matter, the journey is far more important than the goal itself.
  • ***
  • James: The Deathly Hallows?
  • Lily: What are they?
  • Sirius: A children's story.
  • Albus: I think you'll find, Mr Black, that most children's stories are based on truth.

  • Alastor: They should never have come here!
  • Cedric: They took his daughter! He had no choice.

  • Sirius: How do you know? How can you be sure?
  • Albus: Because I've held them all.
  • ***
  • Lily: I really hope you haven't just split them apart again.
  • Albus: They are behaving as I expected them to.
  • ***
  • Lily: Oh it’s good to hear them again.
  • Sirius: Keep the faith.
  • James: NO! Ah Harry don't use the name.
  • ***
  • Alastor: Stay calm. Stick to your story.
  • Cedric: Too late. They've been found out.
  • James: They're taking him to Voldemort.
  • Lily: I think Harry is with him already.
  • ***
  • Albus: Poor Draco. I tried to help him.
  • Sirius: No you did the bare minimum. If you really tried to help him then we wouldn't be watching this.
  • Albus: I do believe you're right. But necessity demanded.
  • ***
  • Lily: Oh God. They're going to torture her.
  • ***
  • James: The mirror?
  • Sirius: What use is that going to be?
  • ***
  • Sirius: Pettigrew! You treacherous bastard!
  • James: Wait! What? No!
  • Lily: ...he's dead. What just happened.
  • Albus: Love. Mercy. Forgiveness. Things such as these can forge terribly great magic. Harry spared Pettigrews life and created a debt. Peter's hand, a construct of pure magic, just repaid it.
  • ***
  • Sirius: He's not here.
  • James: I don't think he wanted to meet the two people he betrayed and the one he blackmailed.
  • Sirius: He's gotten smarter. But I think I'll hunt him down.
  • ***
  • Albus: Oh my...
  • Lily: He's coming! You have to go!
  • James: Woah that was close! DOBBY! Excellent timing!
  • Cedric: Shell Cottage. Nice na- oh no. Don't...
  • Dobby: Master Dumbledore sir. What has happened?
  • James: Dobby. We are Harry Potters parents. We've been watching you help our son for five years. You've been so noble. So brave.
  • Lily: We want you to know, we love you so much Dobby. And you will always be with friends here.
  • Dobby: Kind Miss has Harry Potters eyes.
  • ***
  • Dobby: Such kind words from Sirs and Misses. And Harry Potter is sad.
  • Lily: Of course he is sad. He loved you more than we do. He is your friend.

  • James: I don't understand what's going on.
  • Lily: Me neither.
  • Alastor: Then why don't you both shut up and listen to your son explain it all?
  • ***
  • Albus: Harry. You amazing young man. I'm proud of you my boy.
  • James: You had the Elder Wand? You took it from Grindelwald?
  • Albus: I did.
  • Lily: And why not give it to Harry?
  • Albus: You must pay closer attention Mrs Potter.
  • ***
  • Cedric: So we're planning again. But this time to break into Gringotts.
  • James: Should be fun. Did Godric really steal the sword?
  • Albus: It’s quite possible. No human account would ever admit to it. And who's to say the goblin history isn't biased either.
  • Lily: You were a teacher right?
  • ***
  • James: You're back. Moony has a son.
  • Sirius: Well I’ll be dammed. Good for you mate.
  • Lily: He looks so happy.
  • ***
  • Alastor: Weasley. As subtle as ever.
  • Cedric: Hermione is the only one who appreciates subtlety. The other two prefer a wand to the face.
  • ***
  • Albus: Once more unto the breach
  • ***
  • James: I recognise his voice.
  • Lily: Travers is the one who almost killed me. And then you dropped your wand and beat him half to death.
  • Sirius: Potter, your laziness is biting your son in the arse. “Half to death” finish the job!
  • ***
  • Lily: He just used the Imperius Curse...
  • James: It was necessary.
  • Alastor: Be grateful he's managed to avoid killing anyone. What was your bodycount?
  • Lily: More than zero.
  • ***
  • Sirius: Dammit! This is the ministry all over again.
  • James: Onwards. Get the Horcrux.
  • ***
  • Lily: They’ve got i- GODDAMMIT GRIPHOOK!
  • Alastor: They should have never trusted the goblin!
  • James: They had no choice! Time to go son!
  • ***
  • Cedric: They did it. They got the cup.
  • Sirius: Lost the sword.
  • Albus: They did well. But now Tom Riddle will know what they are hunting.
  • James: He already knows. Now what?
  • Lily: To Hogwarts.
  • Dobby: Once again Harry Potter frees a poor and hurt creature. He is truly great.
  • Albus: You are correct Dobby. He really is.
  • ***
  • James: They're in trouble!
  • Sirius: They need to-
  • Albus: Brother.
  • ***
  • Lily: Your brother isn't being helpful.
  • Albus: He's worrying more about their safety than their success. He's a better man than I ever was.
  • ***
  • James: Oh...
  • Lily: Albus...oh Albus I'm so sorry.
  • Albus: I should introduce you to my family. They would like you. But that may have to wait. I believe we are about to go home.
  • ***
  • Alastor: The war came to Hogwarts.
  • Albus: And here it will end. Never tickle a sleeping dragon.
  • ***
  • James: Use them Harry. You need the help
  • ***
  • Sirius: Why would you step out from the cloak?
  • James: He can handle Alecto.
  • Lily: So can Luna.
  • ***
  • Lily: Oh good. He's used Cruciatus.
  • James: Let's just hope he doesn't need to use the last one.
  • ***
  • Sirius: Oh great. This dick.
  • James: Oh man! Look at Minnie go! Kick his ass!
  • Lily: They're on the same side!
  • Sirius: So?
  • ***
  • Sirius: I wish I was there. One last battle.
  • James: Me too Padfoot.
  • Sirius: Although...maybe not at this very moment.
  • Lily: This is so awkward. Jeez Fleur, really?
  • ***
  • Lily: Aww they made up.
  • Alastor: Just in time to die.
  • James: Death did not make you any cheerier did it?
  • ***
  • Cedric: See I’m impressed by the visual. But the fact that it’s always Slytherin versus the other three, seems to highlight a major problem in this school.
  • Albus: I agree Mr Diggory. A simple idea that has such permanent consequences.
  • ***
  • James: In the middle of a battle and he forgets what he's doing.
  • Lily: Has your attention span.
  • James: Why is it that every bad thing comes from me?
  • ***
  • Albus: The Grey Lady. Harry you marvelous young man.
  • Dobby: Ghost Miss Ravenclaw has always been kind to me.
  • Albus: Ah of course! Before he met with me. In case I escorted him out.
  • James: But where did he hide it?
  • Albus: I do not know. But I believe Harry does.
  • ***
  • Lily: Even now he is loyal to you.
  • ***
  • Cedric: Chamber of Secrets? Hell of a romantic date Ron.
  • Albus: Aaahh of course. These children are magnificent.
  • ***
  • Lily: It’s about damn time!
  • James: They're really going at it.
  • Alastor: Timing. Idiots.
  • ***
  • James: Sirius is following Tonks. Cedric and Alastor have gone to see other people.
  • Lily: I guess it's just us then.
  • Albus: Fitting in a way.
  • Dobby: Yes sir.
  • Hedwig: Hoot.
  • ***
  • Lily: These three again?
  • James: When are old school enemies not welcome?
  • ***
  • James: He just tried to kill Hermione...
  • Lily: Were we like this?
  • James: Probably.
  • ***
  • James: Fucking fiendfyre! You crazy bastard!
  • ***
  • Lily: We would never have tried to save them.
  • James: Speak for yourself. I saved Snape remember.
  • Lily: Oh shut up. They destroyed another Horcrux
  • ***
  • James: Oh no...
  • Lily: Hello Fred.
  • Fred: Blimey. You're the Potters! Professor Dumbledore! Oh hell!
  • James: Yes Fred you are dead. But if it makes you feel better, you can call me Prongs.

  • Albus: If I may-
  • Lily: Not a word! You have both played with my sons life as if he were a piece in a game! No one has the right to talk until we see that memory!
  • ***
  • Lily: You bullied my son. And his friends. You went out of your way to torture and torment them. But you also risked your life for my son, every day for the last three years.I do not forgive you, but you can stay. For now.

I have a lot of troubled feelings about Snape’s relationship with Dumbledore. I can recognize (and many people comment on) that Dumbledore is the main reason that Snape is alive and not in Azkaban. However, I do think people tend to give Dumbledore too much credit - or rather, refuse to acknowledge the way that Dumbledore uses and abuses Snape’s absolute dependence on him.

“You know what I mean! He thinks it means her son, he is going to hunt her down—kill them all—”
“If she means so much to you,” said Dumbledore, “surely Lord Voldemort will spare her? Could you not ask for mercy for the mother, in exchange for the son?”
“I have—I have asked him—”
“You disgust me,” said Dumbledore, and Harry had never heard so much contempt in his voice. Snape seemed to shrink a little, “You do not care, then, about the deaths of her husband and child? They can die, as long as you have what you want?”

Dumbledore makes an assumption here. (One that fandom has eagerly accepted in order to “prove” Snape’s “obsession” with Lily.) Snape does ask Voldemort to spare Lily, but Dumbledore assumes that it means he gives absolutely no thought to James or Harry. If Snape just wanted Lily to remain alive, he has no reason to go to Dumbledore. He knows Dumbledore isn’t going to just save Lily - he knows that Dumbledore cares about James (he had an abundance of evidence at Hogwarts) and he’s hardly going to let a baby go into danger. Snape goes to Dumbledore for extra insurance for Lily, but he hardly thinks Dumbledore is only going to save her.

That’s one reason why I always roll my eyes when people try to argue that Snape wanted Voldemort to save Lily so Snape could “have” her. If Snape really just wanted her saved so he could “have” her, he would never have gone to Dumbledore.

“Hide them all, then,” he croaked. “Keep her—them—safe. Please.”
“And what will you give me in return, Severus?”
“In—in return?” Snape gaped at Dumbledore, and Harry expected him to protest, but after a long moment he said, “Anything.”

This is a really fucked up moment. Dumbledore knows Snape is desperate - desperate enough to go to the leader of the opposite side, a man Snape thinks is going to kill him (a few pages earlier he begs Dumbledore not to). Dumbledore can tell that Snape will grasp at anything to save Lily (and, by extension, James and Harry). Dumbledore sees that - and he ruthlessly takes advantage. He needs information, he needs spies, Snape is perfectly placed to spy… and he’s so very desperate. So willing to do what it takes. Dumbledore sees that and he sets a condition.

What’s even worse is that Dumbledore has very likely already hidden James and Lily. And we know that he would have even without Snape being asked to spy. (He may be a ruthless dick, but he’s hardly going to let people get murdered, especially not his Chosen One.) But Dumbledore is playing on the fact that Snape doesn’t trust him, doesn’t know that Dumbledore will already do the thing that Snape is asking him. (And Dumbledore does know that Snape won’t trust him; Dumbledore ensured that with his reaction to the Werewolf Incident.) And he traps Snape into the life of a spy, asking him to risk his life over and over.

I do think it’s good that Snape got out from under Voldemort. But I find it highly troubling that Dumbledore trapped him in such a way.

“I thought… you were going… to keep her… safe…”
“She and James put their faith in the wrong person,” said Dumbledore. “Rather like you, Severus. Weren’t you hoping that Lord Voldemort would spare her?

Way to rub salt into the wound, Dumbledore. He’s basically blaming Snape for Lily’s death.

“Her boy survives,” said Dumbledore.
With a tiny jerk of the head, Snape seemed to flick off an irksome fly.
“Her son lives. He has her eyes, precisely her eyes. You remember the shape and color of Lily Evans’s eyes, I am sure?
“DON’T!” bellowed Snape. “Gone… dead…”

And here Dumbledore lays the groundwork. He can see the effect Lily’s death is having on Snape, he can see how it’s grinding him down, and who does he bring up? Harry. He knows Snape doesn’t care about Harry because Snape sees him as James’ son, so he takes pains to remind Snape that Harry is Lily’s son too.

“Is this remorse, Severus?”
“I wish… I wish I were dead…”
And what use would that be to anyone?” said Dumbledore coldly. “If you loved Lily Evans, if you truly loved her, then your way forward is clear.
Snape seemed to peer through a haze of pain, and Dumbledore’s words appeared to take a long time to reach him.
“What—what do you mean?”
“You know how and why she died. Make sure it was not in vain. Help me protect Lily’s son.
“He does not need protection. The Dark Lord has gone—”
“The Dark Lord will return, and Harry Potter will be in terrible danger when he does.”
There was a long pause, and slowly Snape regained control of himself, mastered his own breathing. At last he said, “Very well. Very well.”

Ah, the master manipulator. I do think it’s good that Snape doesn’t commit suicide, as he’s clearly teetering on the brink of considering here. But I am also HIGHLY troubled by the fact that Dumbledore takes advantage of Snape’s feelings in order to ensure a protector for Harry. He knows no one else will protect Harry as ferociously, excluding Lupin (and Black, though Dumbledore won’t know that until later) who can’t look after Harry because of his status as a werewolf. He knows that by connecting it to Lily’s memory, he will ensure that Snape will die to make sure Harry stays alive.

And it helps that when Voldemort comes back (as Dumbledore believes he will) he’ll still have Snape around to fall back into his old place.

“That boy’s soul is not yet so damaged,” said Dumbledore. “I would not have it ripped apart on my account.
“And my soul, Dumbledore? Mine?”

I mean, Dumbledore’s not wrong; he’s dying already and killing him knowing that will hardly break Snape’s soul. But I do find it a little telling that he does not consider Snape’s feelings in all of this; Snape clearly cares about him, clearly even loves him, as much as Snape can love anyone, and asking Snape to murder him in cold blood is a heavy burden. But Dumbledore doesn’t want to protect Snape - he wants to utilize him.

And this is clearest when Dumbledore reveals Harry must die. Dumbledore has known this for many years, I would assume - at least as long as he’s suspected (and confirmed) that Harry is a horcrux, which could have happened as early as Harry’s first year. (I assume it was later - but the latest would have been his fifth year, I believe. After that possession, I think it would’ve been clear to Dumbledore.) So he’s continued to use Snape as a protector for Harry, even knowing that all Snape’s protecting him for is death.

I do think Dumbledore cares for Snape. But, like the way he cares for Harry, Dumbledore is still willing to use and manipulate Snape. And, at least early on, he is clearly disgusted by Snape - Harry notes the “contempt” in his voice, the disregard he has for Snape’s feelings for Lily when he makes a backhanded accusation about his part in her death, and so on. Since Snape is a DE this isn’t exactly without explanation, but I do find it interesting that Dumbledore clearly thinks he has no part in Snape’s allegiance, even though I would argue that Dumbledore allowing Snape’s bullies (and near murderers) free reign had at least some impact on Snape’s decision to join the DE.

In any case, I am skeptical of anyone who tries to pretend that Dumbledore was being saintly and forgiving when he took Snape in. Dumbledore was a conniving old cod and he saw an opportunity to use a desperate man for his own purposes - no more, no less. Perhaps later on, Dumbledore cared for Snape (it certainly seems so when he compliments Snape’s bravery, for instance), but that doesn’t mean Dumbledore ever stops using him; as we see with Harry, Dumbledore never stops using people, even those he loves.

Harry Potter - My Favorite Relationship!

Hee! I know everyone was expecting my post on my favorite male character, obvious though it is, but I’m delaying that again for reasons I don’t really know… but since next week is the last week of August, I will have to post it then!!! So apologies for that… how about a look at my favorite relationship of the series in the meantime?

I decided to use the word ‘relationship’ for this pair because its the best term to describe them and “charged moments” just the two of them, something special which Harry and Ron do not share nor do Hermione and Ron, its these moments which make Harry & Hermione a relationship that is worthy of its nickname which the fandom has given to them - Harmony.

While there may be a lot of people reading this article who could have different choices, mine is my own opinion and choice and favorite so the best thing to do is respect our individual differences if they exist. To me, Harry & Hermione, was a wonderful opportunity and although I could list all the reasons and explanations and hints or clues which support my theory, the best thing I will do is mention some of my favorite canonical moments that the two of them shared in the books and/or the movies. At the end of the day, you couldn’t find a better example of a strong, loyal and deep rooted friendship between any other characters. It wasn’t only because of their similar backgrounds or being on equal levels of intelligence, there’s trust and faith and hope that Harry and Hermione have for each other and they have shared some moments together, just by themselves which is special.

Philosopher’s Stone:

1. Hermione: “You’ll be okay, Harry. You’re a great wizard. You really are.

Harry: ”Not as good as you.“

Hermione: "Me? Books and cleverness. There are more important things - friendship and bravery.”

2. When Harry’s broomstick is being sabotaged, Hermione goes over to the teachers stands and uses her magic to distract Snape.

Chamber of Secrets:

1. When Hermione is petrified by the Basilisk and remains in the hospital wing, “Harry’s insides did a horrible somersault,” and just before he notices the crumpled paper about the Basilisk, in the movie Harry is visiting and was holding her hand.

2. Hermione wakes up at the end of the movie and during the feast she enters the Great Hall and runs over to the Gryffindor table and hugs Harry.

Prisoner of Azkaban:

1. Everything from the moment Harry and Hermione use the Time Turner to go back and save Buckbeak in order to rescue Sirius in both the book and the movie.

2. Hermione standing in front of Harry to protect him from Sirius.

Goblet of Fire:

1. Hermione was the only person who believed that Harry did not put his name inside the Goblet of Fire and she stayed by his side.

2. Before the First Task Hermione sneaks inside the Champions Tent and hugs Harry.

3. Harry’s reaction when he sees Hermione enter the Yule Ball in both the book and the movie.

4. During the Second Task, when Harry rescues Ron from the bottom of the Great Lake he tries to take Hermione as well because, “She’s my friend too!”

5. At the end of the book when they reach Kings Cross Station, Hermione kisses Harry on the cheek before they leave for their respective homes.

Order of the Phoenix:

1. Harry cuts his date short with Cho to meet with Hermione (and Rita Skeeter)

2. Hermione thought that Harry was going to be chosen as Prefect along with her.

3. Hermione’s tackle hug when Harry reaches Grimmauld Place.

4. It was Hermione’s idea to form Dumbledore’s Army and have Harry lead all of them.

5. Only after Hermione says Voldemort’s name out loud does Harry start to calm down after his hyper outburst.

6. At the Department of Mysteries when Dolohov attacks Hermione, Harry felt like fainting when he saw her fall.

Half-Blood Prince:

1. Harry is the one to go after Hermione first when she runs off to a secluded place and conjures up the magic birds.

2. After realizing that Hermione really did use the Confundus Charm on Cormac McLaggen at Keeper Tryouts, he doesn’t say a word about it and keeps the news to himself.

3. Hermione spends the entire part of Slughorn’s Christmas Party hiding from Cormac McLaggen and asking Harry to help her and if I’m not mistaken Harry ends up spending more time with her than with his 'date’ Luna.

Deathly Hallows:

1. Hermione stays behind with Harry even after Ron leaves them in the middle of their Horcrux search quest.

2. Harry tries to cheer Hermione up by dancing with her. (Movie)

3. Harry and Hermione visit Godric’s Hollow together on Christmas and stop by the graveyard where his parents are buried where she conjures up a wreath without Harry asking her.

4. “Maybe we should just stay here, Harry. Grow old.”

5. Hermione was the first one to realize that Harry was the last Horcrux.

6. “I’ll go with you.”

The best way to end this is to quote the creator herself, J.K Rowling who said - “It could have gone that way.”

There was something wrong with Potter.

Draco didn’t know what it was, but he could see it inside of him, festering. Permeating from his skin like a curse.

But no one else seemed to notice it. As Draco looked around the castle grounds, all he could see were students enjoying the sunshine after their final exams.

Students, and Potter, sitting by the lake with an almost visible black fog seeping from his pores.

Draco was alone, just as he had spent most of eighth year. From the beginning, the mere thought of talking to someone who could not comprehend the atrocities of the war was less than palatable. And anyone who could comprehend it hadn’t bothered to return to Hogwarts.

Potter, on the other hand, was never alone. But Draco couldn’t shake the feeling that perhaps he wanted to be.

Draco had long since forgotten their petty rivalry; war had a way of forcing perspective, whether you wanted it or not.

Besides, he felt an inescapable solidarity with Potter. Although they hadn’t spoken beyond brief greetings – pleasantly free from animosity – Draco felt certain that Potter was the only one who might have a hope of understanding what Draco had experienced during the war. And even though Potter had his friends with him, Draco was wondering more and more lately if Potter wouldn’t feel the same about him.

Of course, there was also the fact that once Draco no longer had their mutual hatred to distract him, there was nothing left to keep him from the knowledge that he was desperately, irrefutably in love with the man.

He planned on telling him one day, just not yet.

So, when Potter’s friends gave up trying to engage him in their conversation, and for once left him alone, Draco stood up and walked over.

He ignored the way Potter’s shoulders had relaxed into the silence - the way he seemed for once to be at peace - and sat down. Deep down, Draco acknowledged that he’d always been selfish like that.

Potter looked up in confusion, but to Draco’s surprise, the tenseness did not return to his posture.

“Malfoy,” he said.

“Potter,” Draco replied, settling himself comfortably onto the grass.

They sat that way for a while, each lost in their own thoughts.

“What’s wrong?” Draco asked finally.

Potter shrugged, loquacious as ever.

Draco raised one eyebrow. “Any idiot can see it,” he drawled. “And, for whatever reason, you don’t want to tell your friends. Maybe telling your enemy will help.”

Potter looked up to see Draco smirking. He laughed quietly. “Well,” he said, pausing. “That’s flawless logic if ever I heard it.”

“I am flawless,” Draco replied. “So, what’s wrong?”

“He’s still inside me.”

Draco froze. The words were ambiguous, but their meaning was clear. Suddenly, the gentle sunshine felt cold and grey, like they were sitting inside a photograph.

“How?” he whispered.

Potter sighed. “I survived death – so did the Horcrux. To destroy a living Horcrux, you need to kill the host.” His eyes met Draco’s, and he gave a wry smile. “There’s no room for loopholes with that kind of magic. The Killing Curse damaged the piece of his soul in me, but it didn’t destroy it, because it didn’t destroy me. It’s only faint, but it’s still there. I can feel it.”

Draco didn’t know what to say. He felt like there was a hole where his stomach should be, and he was slowly sinking into it.

“What will you do? Has Granger found a way to destroy it?”

Potter shook his head. “They don’t know. I won’t tell them.”

Draco’s ears were ringing. “But-” his voice was shaking. He tried again. “But you have to move quickly. Who knows when He’ll grow strong enough to do something? He could possess you, Potter.”

“I know,” Potter said, the smile still on his face. He held Draco’s gaze, but said nothing further.

There was something that Draco was missing.

“So, you already know what to do, then?” he asked, frowning.

Potter nodded, finally turning away.

“What is it, you melodramatic git?” Draco snapped.

Potter looked at him, just looked at him.

Draco felt a strange numbness settle through his body. In the distance, he could hear people laughing and chatting, but it was like it was in slow motion.

“When?” Draco managed to ask, his voice a throaty whisper.

“I thought I’d wait until everyone had finished exams,” Potter mused.

Exams were over.

Draco tried to speak, but his lips felt like lead. “There has to be another way,” he finally managed.

Potter shrugged again. “I’ve spent all year looking,” he said simply. “Time’s running out.” He smiled, his eyes staring into the distance. “It was too good to be true, really. I should have known I couldn’t cheat death.”

“Let me look,” Draco found himself begging.

Potter looked at him in mild surprise, but shook his head. “Thanks, Malfoy, but really, there’s nothing. I’ve looked everywhere, and asked everyone who might know the answer. There’s nothing, and it’s too dangerous for me to stay.”

To stay… like all he was doing was leaving for a little while.

Potter stood up suddenly. “Thanks, Malfoy. I know I can trust you not to tell them.” He frowned slightly, almost to himself. “For some reason, I feel like you’re the only one who might have a hope of understanding this.”

He gave a small laugh, before lifting his hand in farewell and turning away, leaving Draco breaking into pieces behind him.

At breakfast, Draco received a letter. It was the first letter he had been sent all year. His parents couldn’t write from Azkaban.

I know this is a terrible thing to ask, but I don’t think I can be alone. If you think you can handle it, I’ll be in the Forest at midnight.

If you can’t come, I’ll understand.

Draco’s hands were shaking so much he could hardly read the words. If he could handle it? Of course he couldn’t handle it. But he couldn’t leave Potter alone either.

At midnight, he waited by the Forest near Hagrid’s hut. He heard a noise behind him, and turned to see Potter emerging from the shadows.

“You came,” he said calmly.

Draco nodded. Feeling like he was part of a dream, he followed Potter deeper into the forest.

“How are you doing it?” he heard himself ask. He wasn’t certain, but he couldn’t imagine someone would be capable of casting the Killing Curse on themselves, and Draco sure as hell wasn’t going to do it for him.

Draco thought he misheard the answer. “Basilisk venom?!” he repeated in shock. “You have to be joking.”

Potter half turned to give him the most chilling smile Draco had ever seen. “Have to be certain the Horcrux is gone, and we know that Basilisk venom destroys them. Besides, it doesn’t hurt much. I’ve had it before.”

Draco was horrified to realise that he was crying. He hastily wiped the tears from his cheeks, hurrying to catch up.

“Are you sure about this?”

Potter stopped, and Draco cannoned into him. Potter turned and ran a hand through his hair. For the first time, he seemed to be regretting something.

“Look,” he said quietly. “I shouldn’t have asked you here. I’m sorry. It was just-” He sighed. “It was weak of me. But, I thought that maybe, because we’re not really friends-” Potter’s face twisted into an ironic sort of smile. “Well, I thought you would be able to handle it.”

Draco tried to speak, but found himself choking instead. He couldn’t breathe – it was too dark, and there wasn’t enough oxygen in here.

“And also,” Potter continued like he hadn’t even noticed Draco’s internal battle. “I didn’t want to go without telling you. Which is selfish, I know. But I think I’m allowed that, after all this.”

Potter suddenly stepped forward and cupped Draco’s face in his hands. Before Draco knew what was happening, Potter’s lips were pressed against his. And then, just as quickly, they were gone.

Draco gaped at him, but he had already stepped back into the shadows. There was vial in his hand that Draco hadn’t noticed before. With a finality that left Draco breathless, Potter lifted the vial to his lips and drank.

“No!” Draco burst out. Without thinking, he dived forward and knocked the vial from Potter’s hand.

It smashed into pieces on the rock. Potter stared at him, his eyes wide and glistening with fear and horror. He dropped to his knees, and Draco caught him, but it was too late.

“Potter, you idiot,” Draco sobbed, holding Potter – Harry – upright in his arms.

Harry smiled. “Still,” he said weakly. “This is a better way to go than last time.”

Something was niggling at the back of Draco’s mind, buried deep beneath fear and panic. He tried to focus on it, but it kept slipping away. He held Harry to him and wept.

If only Dumbledore’s phoenix were here – he could save Harry. Then they could figure out how to get rid of the Horcrux.

Draco froze, the niggling thought suddenly penetrating the fog of despair.

“Phoenix tears,” he gasped. “Harry, will Dumbledore’s phoenix come to you?”

Harry frowned, struggling to focus on Draco’s words. “He has before,” he muttered, confused. “But there’s no point-”

“Just call him, dammit,” Draco hissed.

Even through the pain and delirium, Harry smirked. “I can’t call a phoenix. They either come, or they don’t.”

The words were barely out of Harry’s mouth when a soft rush of air hit Draco’s face. He looked up to see Fawkes slowly landing beside them.

Draco carefully leaned Harry back against a tree and cupped his shaking hands beneath Fawkes beak. The tears dropped slowly in, one by one.

“You have to drink it,” he said forcefully, bringing his hands to Harry’s lips.

Harry tried to turn away, but Draco forced the liquid down his throat. Draco barely breathed as he waited for Harry’s eyes to open again.

After what felt like hours, Harry’s breathing began to steady. When his eyes opened, they looked clear and focused once more.

Draco let out a breath of relief and wrapped his arms around Harry again. He felt Harry pause, before tentatively bringing his own arms up to Draco’s waist, holding him close.

Draco drew back just far enough so that they could see each other.

“I’ll just have to do it again, you know,” Harry said, his voice flat. “And I don’t know if I can do it a second time.”

“Good, because you’re a git and you don’t have to,” Draco said fiercely. “Did it ever occur to you that you were looking for the wrong answer?”

Harry frowned. “What do you mean?”

“You kept trying to destroy the Horcrux, thinking it hadn’t worked the first time. But it was already destroyed. You know what you didn’t do? You didn’t heal, you complete and utter, bloody moron. That’s why you could still feel him.”

Harry continued to look confused.

Draco sighed in exasperation, the relief making him feel giddy. He softened his voice. “Did you really think you could just snap back awake, sans Horcrux, and be yourself again? The scars were still there.”

For the first time since the war, Draco saw hope enter Harry’s eyes.

“Tell me,” Draco continued. “How do you feel now?”

“Good,” Harry said hesitantly. “I feel good. I- I can’t feel him anymore.”

“Of course you can’t,” Draco said, his face breaking into a grin. “Because I am a genius, and you should have asked me sooner.”

Harry stared at him, his mouth open, and then, suddenly, he began to laugh. He drew Draco closer and buried his face in Draco’s neck.

“You’re right,” he said, his voice muffled.

Draco finally felt Harry relax against him, and they stayed there together until the first rays of dawn came through the leaves.

Stiles sighed and looked down at his knees. He was going to have to tell them eventually- especially if he couldn’t get the ingredients for his potion or had an attack at school. “Was the thing you read about Lumos the anti-werewolf attack back in April?”

“I do remember that, yes.”

“The werewolf that was killed was my best friend,” he said, blinking rapidly. “I might as well tell you now that sometimes I get panic attacks, and I’m not quite… okay yet. But I can’t go back to that school, with the students that killed him.”

The woods around the Salem Witches’ Institute have been Stiles’ sanctuary from the day he enrolled in the school. When he saw something there that he couldn’t understand, he fell into a researching frenzy until one of the school librarians pointed him in an intriguing direction. What he found was more than he was imagining, and led him down trails he wasn’t expecting.

It all began with a pair of blue eyes in the dark.

“If you don’t shut up,” Derek warns him, “This bed is going to be your only companion for the next month.”

Since Hogwarts had opened its doors to werewolves, many Hale children had apparently come through, wary and angry, refusing to socialize with the other students. And one by one, they’d been sorted into Slytherin, obviously, with the odd Ravenclaw to mix things up.

And then along came little Derek Hale, who’d barely gotten his ass on the stool before the hat was calling out Gryffindor.

Everyone thought it was funny, even now, when Derek was in his seventh year. Stiles, though, found it fascinating.

It helped, of course, that Derek was two years older and hotter than the sun.

Stiles Used To Be A Wizard…He Might Still Be. by Alazan

When Stiles was eleven he received a letter for Salem Institute’s School of Magic. By fourteen he had gained enough attention and high marks to be allowed on the trip as one of the few students to visit Hogwarts for the infamous "Tri-Wizard-Tournament”. Stiles’s curiosity, something he was once praised for in his magical learning, cost him a lot when he helped out Harry Potter in stopping Voldemort’s rise, purifying Harry from being a Horcrux, and saving Cedric Diggory’s life.

You’d think he’d be honored a hero. He wasn’t. What he got was his wand snapped in half, expelled, and exiled from the magical communities.

Stiles did his best to put that part of him behind. For the most part he’s done a great job of it. Though he does have a lot of Werewolf business to keep him busy.

Then Viktor Krum arrives out of the blue and shit hits the fan. And as much as Stiles would love the new attention Derek is sending his way, he can’t concentrate on THAT werewolf, when someone like Fenrir Greyback may be targeting him to make him part of his pack.

It’s a Sunday.

Harry can’t remember the last time this mattered, the last time he had kept track of things like days or weeks or months, but now it does. It matters because Mrs Weasley is cooking a giant roast dinner and it smells delicious, and because Mr Weasley managed to get time off of work, despite the current chaotic state of the Ministry, and because tomorrow is Monday which means another week, slightly further away from all the destruction. It matters because last night was the first decent night’s sleep Harry has had since he can remember, even if it was riddled with images of the dead.

It has been seven days since he didn’t die.

Song is When We Were Young by Adele. Premise of this is that Elizabeth Black is the daughter of Sirius Black and Violet Argent (Chris and Kate Argent’s younger sister), and the cousin of Allison Argent, as well as a skilled seer and healer. Her mother died when she was very young and her father was wrongfully imprisoned (later dying at the ministry as she watched), so she was raised by the Weasley family and attended Hogwarts alongside Hermione, Harry, and Ron (although she was technically a little more than a year younger than them, but was extremely advanced for her age and so graduated early just after the war) and is quite close with the golden trio. She’s a brilliant witch who remained at Hogwarts while the trio searched for horcruxes in order to protect the students there, and fought valiantly in the war. After the war, Lizzie was left emotionally unstable, and desperate to leave Britain, decided to attend Allison’s new school in Beacon Hills with her to make the move easier (although she still kept in close touch with her friends back home, and continued her work as a skilled healer in America, working alongside Scott and Deaton). There she met Scott McCall, and aided him with the shift and the many adventures following that, proving to be a vital part of the pack. In this, Scott has NO romantic relationship with Allison OR Kira, and his anchor is Lizzie (even though she doesn’t know it). Shortly after Allison’s death, Lizzie left Beacon Hills to recover, upset at having lost even more family and her seer abilities out of control. She remains in touch with all of them, mainly Lydia, and misses Scott McCall almost as much as he misses her…

Everybody loves the things you do

From the way you talk

To the way you move

Everybody here is watching you

Cause you feel like home

You're like a dream come true

But if by chance you’re here alone

Can I have a moment

Before I go?

Cause I’ve been by myself all night long

Hoping you’re someone I used to know

Scott had heard before that people could still hear things for a few minutes after they died, but he was never altogether sure he had believed it. After all, how could anyone possibly know what it was like to be dead and gone?

But now that he was surely dead, that unbearable cold and unfamiliar sensation settling over his heart, he realized that they had all been wrong.

(Perhaps he was not dead at all though, and this was just some terrible, twisted dream- one that he so desperately wanted to wake up from.)

There were voices all around him, ones that he knew for a fact could not be there. Ones that he knew for a fact were thousands of miles away from here. He could feel his mother’s warm hands on his chest, too, ones that had woken him from many nightmares before this one.

I’m sorry mom, he thought as he realized this was not the nightmare he was hoping it had been, I am so sorry.

Then icy cold hands replaced those of his mother’s, and Scott was sure it was death himself coming to claim him. But as he forced his eyes open, he discovered that death was not a he at all.

In fact, Death was an achingly familiar she, with a face that would put all the stars and angels in heaven to shame.

Perhaps it would not be so bad to die, Scott mused, if death was as beautiful as this.

No, you are not leaving me like this Scott!” Death yelled, deep chocolate eyes burning with anger and sadness. Please don’t be sad, he wanted to tell Death as glistening tears streamed down her tanned skin, please don’t cry.

Death’s icy fingers then reached where Scott knew his heart to be, and he took one last look at Death’s perfect face before closing his eyes for what he thought to be forever.

As death washed over him, Scott couldn’t help but wonder why Death looked so much damn like Elizabeth Black.

You look like a movie

You sound like a song

My God, this reminds me

Of when we were young

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Elizabeth’s lips as she traced the outline of his strong jawline, his features so different yet so painfully familiar.

Scott had grown up since she’d left Beacon Hills, and she was amazed by the changes that had taken place in a face she once knew like the back of her hand in a mere few months. It seemed that in her absence, even the smallest of things had changed.

A bright young witch and skilled seer, Elizabeth had graduated early from Hogwarts and left for America, drawn there by fate and Allison’s pleading to attend her new school with her. In Beacon Hills, she’d met Scott McCall and many of those who she would one day call her greatest friends. She had recognized the signs of lycanthropy in the McCall boy immediately (having a vast expanse of prior knowledge on the subject due to her godfather, Remus Lupin), and had helped him along with Stiles Stilinski to learn to control his shift.

And then she’d fallen in love, and fallen hard. Knee deep in supernatural secrets and paranormal puzzles, she’d been unable to help herself from falling for the brown eyed boy with a heart kinder than any she had met before. While Allison was busy with her own internal conflicts and her severe crush on the Lahey boy, Scott had unwittingly stolen Elizabeth Black’s heart, with no intention of ever returning it to her.

Meanwhile, Scott McCall had fallen just as hard, if not harder, for the young witch with a wit that rivaled even that of Stiles’s and a smile that never failed to take his breath away (he’d blame it on asthma whenever Allison teased him about it, but they all knew better. How could they not, when he looked at her as if she had hung the very stars in the sky?).

But fate was rarely on their side, and any attempts to make the other see how they felt about each other were thwarted by anything and everything the supernatural world had to throw at them. They had been through so much together, but despite pushing from Lydia, Stiles, Allison, and even Derek, neither had mustered up the courage to confess.

Scott almost did, and would have if not for the tragedy that had transpired the very night he had planned to divulge every last thought and secret to Lizzie. (An almost, Scott had often mused. I almost told her. We were almost together. She almost loved me back.)

Elizabeth Black left shortly after Allison’s death, the loss of her cousin and dearest friend too much for the young girl to bear. Knowing the losses the girl had sustained through stories she’d shared of the wizarding war back home, the pack had understood her desire to leave. Desperate for any sort of relief from the pain, she packed up and moved to the British countryside to spend some time with her old friend Hermione Granger.

She had never dreamed that they would be reunited under such terrible and terrifying circumstances, but fate had a decidedly horrid habit of toying with her. She’d experienced a very unclear vision that had left her deeply frightened, and after her impulsive nature not unlike that of her father Sirius’s won out, Lizzie boarded the first flight from Bristol to Beacon Hills.

And now here she was, patiently waiting for him to properly wake up (he’d briefly opened his eyes as his mother had checked his vitals after Elizabeth had revived him, but had collapsed shortly afterward, muttering something about death and brown eyes).

Oh, she had missed him.Elizabeth had once thought of England as home, but whenever the word came to mind since she’d met Scott, the only thing that she could possibly picture was his name and that blushing smile reserved specifically for her.

Something warm closed around the hand she had been resting on his chest, and as those familiar chocolate brown eyes opened to meet her own, she nearly burst into tears.

Lizzie?” His voice, raspy and dry but still enough to make her knees go weak, asked. “Is that you?”

She nodded, entwining her fingers with his as her free thumb caressed his cheek gently. “It’s me. Oh, thank god you’re alright.”

Lizzie.” He sighed contentedly, allowing his eyes to flutter shut as a dreamy smile overtook his face. “My Lizzie.”

There. I’ve done all I can, but unless we know exactly what he’s been poisoned with, I can do little more to help. There’s a slight chance his body will force it out on its own, but I’ll run more tests tomorrow when he’s feeling better.” Elizabeth sighed, sounding tired and drained in a way Melissa McCall had rarely seen the typically vibrant girl. Elizabeth had been attempting all sorts of forms of magic on the recently attacked sheriff, but despite his condition, she’d at least been able to stabilize him for the time being. She’d even managed to force Stiles to get some rest while she worked, after sending him one of her signature reassuring smiles that eased some of the boy’s worries.

“Go get some rest, alright? You’ve had a rough day.” Melissa smiled at her, tucking her into a warm, motherly hug that reminded her of better days, when their worries were as simple as whatever scheme Peter managed to cook up.

Elizabeth placed her hand on Stiles’s shoulder as Melissa checked the Sheriff’s vitals, shaking him from his slumber. He smiled sleepily up at her as she helped him up from the chair he’d been occupying, and she wrapped him in a warm hug. “He’s gonna be okay, Stiles. I promise I’m going to do everything I can to make sure of that.”

Stiles murmured his thanks to her, tucking her into a fierce hug that conveyed not only his gratitude towards her, but how much he had missed her in the previous months. She smiled into his chest, understanding immediately.

The dinging of the elevator doors from outside the intensive care unit caught their attention, and whatever Stiles saw through the window made him rush out the doors angrily. Elizabeth exchanged a worried glance with Melissa before the duo followed after him, a loud crash startling the both of them.

Melissa pulled Stiles off of Scott as a saddened sigh fell from Lizzie’s lips, having already heard the full story from Stiles early on in the night. After a quick conversation that Elizabeth tuned out completely, Stiles rushed out of the hall as Melissa returned back to the Sheriff’s bedside.

She realized that she was alone with Scott, and was suddenly very nervous and anxious. She shied away from his lingering gaze, instead staring down intently at the ground.

“You were there when I woke up,” Scott began softly after a few moments, the gentle tone of his voice causing Elizabeth to glance up and meet his eyes. “But then you were gone.”

“Your mother called about the Sheriff, and I had to run.” She apologized with a slight smile, cursing herself for the mumbling mess he reduced her to as her gaze flickered back to the tile floor.

“I missed you.” He told her honestly, gently raising her chin with his hand so that she could see the sincerity in his eyes.

Elizabeth threw her arms around him then, all of her earlier shyness fading away as he held her in his strong, familiar arms.

“I missed you too.” She murmured into his chest as he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of her head. “I’m so sorry.”

“What for?” He chuckled lightly, genuine confusion in his tone as he tucked her even further into his embrace, praying helplessly that he would never have to let her go.

“For leaving.” Elizabeth whispered, and Scott realized that she was not merely speaking of leaving earlier on in the night. He pulled back slightly and gently caressed her cheek with one hand as her eyes, darkened with the slightest hint of sadness, met his.

“You’re here now.” Scott smiled down at her, amazement and happiness coloring his tone. “That’s more than I could ever ask for.”

I was so scared to face my fears

Cause nobody told me that you’d be here

And I swear you moved overseas

That’s what you said, when you left me

Elizabeth ran her fingers through Lydia’s loose curls, tucking them gently behind the girl’s ear. A sad, knowing smile slipped onto her face as her dark brown eyes scanned her dearest friend’s face, understanding exactly what was happening.

“Oh Lydia,” She whispered lowly, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek. “If only I had gotten here sooner.”

“She missed you a lot, you know.” A deep voice spoke from the doorway of Lydia’s room in the hospital, breaking Lizzie out of her trance. “She was planning on flying out to Britain after everything was over with the Dread Doctors.”

Elizabeth turned to find Scott leaning against the doorframe, his warm eyes trained on her intently. “I missed her too. After Allison died… it was just the two of us. I didn’t just lose my cousin that day, Scott, I lost one of my best friends, and so did Lydia. I wanted so badly to stay here and help her, but it was too dangerous. We talked on the phone every night, and I knew something was off. Her banshee powers… she doesn’t know the full extent of them. Not yet. This catatonic state is self induced, and she won’t wake up until she understands.”

“Is she going to be okay?” Scott asked, a vulnerable light in his eyes that Elizabeth understood all too well. We’ve lost too many already.

“This is Lydia Martin we’re talking about here,” Elizabeth whispered lowly, squeezing the hand holding Lydia’s the slightest bit tighter. “She’s going to be just fine, I can feel it.”

Scott took a seat beside her, quiet for a few moments as he attempted to string together his thoughts. “I still can’t believe that you’re here. I feel like if I look away for too long, you’ll disappear again.”

Lizzie peered up at him through dark lashes, the hint of a smile on her face. “I’m not going anywhere. Do you remember the day I left?”

He nodded, fearing that if he spoke, he’d tell her of how that day had haunted his nightmares and every waking moment for months, how it left him sleepless and breathless far too often.

“I told you that I’d be back, because this is my home, Scott. The pack is my home.” She murmured, tracing patterns on Lydia’s hand as she spoke.

“I’m afraid we’re not much of a pack anymore.” Scott sighed, burying his face in his hands.

“You’ll get them back. You know how I know?” Elizabeth placed her free hand on Scott’s shoulder, leaning in closer to him. “I know because I know you like the back of my hand, Scott McCall. You’re a wonderful alpha, truly, but you’re also loyal to a fault. You’ve built a family out of all of us. Families fight all the time, but they always come back to each other. You just have to be there when they do.”

“Thank you.” He mumbled to her, leaning into her intoxicating touch. Elizabeth had a grounding affect on him, always able to bring him back down to earth and keep him anchored where all else had failed.

My anchor.

“Elizabeth.” Mrs. Martin interrupted her, a soft smile on her face and an affectionate twinkle in her eyes that had been reserved for Lydia, Elizabeth and Allison.

You two are my daughters now too, she’d told Lizzie and Ally after she’d learned that both of the girls had lost their mothers, Elizabeth years ago and Allison just days before, and I’m going to take care of you.

Mrs. Martin only had two daughters now, and she wasn’t about to lose either of them.

“The doctors need to run a few more tests on her, but you can visit whenever you like.” Mrs. Martin told her, tucking the brown eyed girl into a warm hug as she dodged around Scott to get to her.

“Oh, I missed you.” She mumbled into the hug, pressing a motherly kiss to the top of her head. “It’s wonderful to have you back, Lizzie.”

“I missed you too, Mrs. Martin.” Elizabeth smiled at her as she pulled away, chancing a glance back at Lydia. “She’s going to be okay, I know it. Call me if there are any changes?”

“You’ll be the first to know.” Mrs. Martin reassured her, pulling her into one more hug before sending Lizzie and Scott into the hall so that the doctors could check on Lydia.

A sigh fell from Elizabeth’s lips as she peered at the doctors entering Lydia’s room, knowing there was nothing they or anyone could do.

“We’ll see her again soon.” Scott mumbled to her, sounding more like he was promising her something rather than attempting to reassure her. Lizzie had always loved that about Scott, his determination to keep those around him safe.

Gods, I hope so.”

“Stiles, I just got a call from-” Elizabeth halted mid sentence, surprised to see that Stiles had not been alone. She had been staying with the Stilinski family ever since her arrival in Beacon Hills, and had only just returned home from visiting the Sheriff.

Lizzie!” Stiles rapidly jumped up, attempting to block her from the boy behind him’s view. “I didn’t know you were going to be home!”

“I left the hospital early today.” She answered, curious as to who this visitor was and the slightest hint of suspicion in her earth colored eyes. “I came in through the back.”

“Why don’t you-” Stiles began, looking desperate and alarmed before he was cut off by the dark haired stranger behind him.

“I’m Theo Raeken. It’s a pleasure to meet you” The handsome stranger introduced himself, pushing past Stiles as he extended a hand out for her to shake with a self satisfied smirk on his face.

“Elizabeth Black. I’m afraid your reputation precedes you, Theo, and I can assure you it is certainly not a pleasure to meet you.” She smiled sarcastically at him, ignoring his outstretched hand due to the grocery bags in her arms and blatant dislike of the boy.

“Let me help you.” He grinned cheekily at her, taking the bags from her arms before she could protest and walking off towards the kitchen. Lizzie exchanged a curious glance with Stiles, who merely shrugged in response.

She followed after the chimera alongside Stiles, watching as he placed the bags on the counter carefully and met her eyes. Her breath caught in her throat as he observed her, his eyes scanning over her body hungrily before they met her own once more. He smirked at her, leaning against the counter casually.

“I believe your reputation precedes you as well, Elizabeth. Are you sure you’re up for another war?” Theo asked her, enjoying the way her body tensed at the mention of further brutality.

“You know nothing of war, what I’ve seen.” She hissed, aching to hex the boy but restraining herself from grabbing her wand from her boot. “You think you understand what you’re getting yourself into? I assure you, the games you play are nothing compared to a full blown war. Your Dread Doctors are nothing more than glorified dementors, feeding off death and destruction. They actually think they can control the beast they’ve created.” She laughed darkly, no humor in her tone. “They are sorely mistaken.”

And then Elizabeth was gone, stampeding through the kitchen and up the staircase towards the guest room she’d been occupying before throwing herself on the bed.

“Rough day?” A voice asked, and she groaned in response.

“Whoever it is, get out. I am not in the bloody mood.” Elizabeth huffed, burying her face in her pillows.

“I think I’ll stay.” The voice teased before plopping down beside her on the bed, and Lizzie rolled over to find Scott peering down at her, resting on his elbow. She visibly relaxed as her eyes took in his familiar smile, her heart aching slightly more so than usual at its warmth.

Damn him and that smile.

Only because it’s you.” Lizzie relented, a smile of her own tugging at her lips. She examined his face, committing every last detail to memory as if it was the last time she would ever see him. He was even more handsome than she remembered.

“Do I have something on my face?” He asked curiously, making her laugh. She reached one hand out to rest on his jaw, her nimble fingers ghosting across his stubble.

“No.” She answered, giggling as he nuzzled her palm and his stubble tickled her. “You just look so different since I was here last.”

“A good kind or bad kind of different?” Scott asked her, a teasing glint in his eyes, but something about his smile told her that he was nervous as to what her answer would be.

“Good kind.” She grinned at him. “You still have the puppyish grin though.” He groaned dramatically then, closing his eyes at the puppy reference. “It’s cute.” She promised him, laughing lightly.

Scott’s eyes shot open then, the smile on his face bright enough to nearly blind her. “You think I’m cute?”

“I did not say that!” Lizzie protested, looking somewhat flustered. Scott laughed at her embarrassment, his heart rate increasing as he noted the faint blush on her cheeks and the distinct erratic thudding of her heartbeat.

“It’s okay, everyone thinks it. I’m the hot girl.” He told her, making her laugh as well. Scott grinned affectionately down at her, caressing her cheek with his surprisingly soft hands.

“You look different too. A good kind of different. You, Elizabeth Black, are heartbreakingly beautiful, even more so than the first time we met.” He told her honestly, enjoying the way her cheeks flared a brilliant shade of scarlet.

But beautiful didn’t even begin to describe Elizabeth Black, in Scott’s opinion…

Elizabeth plopped down on the plastic hospital chair, exhausted from hours spent performing tedious surgery on the sheriff ever since Stiles and Scott had informed them of what he’d been poisoned with.

“Long day?” Someone asked, taking a seat beside her. She peered over at the owner of the voice, rolling her eyes at the man before her.

“You don’t know the half of it, Raeken.” She mumbled, raising an eyebrow at him suspiciously as he extended a cup of coffee towards her.

“A peace offering.” He smiled at her. “I swear its not poisoned or anything. I just want to talk.”

She accepted the coffee cup reluctantly, curiosity in her deep brown eyes at the gesture. “Thank you, I guess. What is it that you wanted to talk about?”

“I wanted to apologize.” Theo began, making her scoff loudly in disbelief. “But not for what you think. I won’t apologize for killing Scott, because I cut a deal with the Doctors that if only he died, no one else in your pack would. I won’t apologize for attempting to stay alive, but I will apologize for what I said the other day. I didn’t mean to make you so upset, bringing up your past like that.”

Elizabeth arched one perfect eyebrow at him, confused and rather alarmed by the genuine look in his eyes as he spoke, as if he was truly saddened by the thought of having upset her. “You’re an odd one, Theo Raeken. I’ll give you that.” Lizzie laughed lightly, taking a sip from her steaming cup of coffee.

“I suppose I am.” He mused thoughtfully, not taking his eyes off her. God, she’s beautiful, Theo thought to himself, fighting back the urge to run his hands through her messy curls and caress her flawless, makeup-less face, she’s putty in Scott’s hands and he doesn’t even have a clue.

The door to the waiting room flew open then, and Theo rushed to his feet in a flash as Scott stormed into the room.

“Is everything alright?” Elizabeth questioned worriedly, her exhaustion nearly overtaking her as she jumped to her feet as well. When was the last time she ate? When was the last time she even drank anything?

Get away from her.” Scott growled lowly at Theo, pulling Elizabeth behind him protectively as his eyes flashed a glaring shade of crimson.

“Why should I?” Theo smirked at him, not looking bothered in the slightest. In fact, he looked almost amused. Elizabeth nearly groaned in frustration at the occurrence, knowing that Scott merely wished to protect her from Theo but annoyed at the same time because she was certainly capable of handling the situation herself. And bloody hell, why did her head hurt so badly?

“If you lay one hand on her, I’ll rip your throat out myself.” Scott told him, curling his arm around Elizabeth’s waist as she made to stand beside him. She would have blushed had the circumstances not been so dire.

“Is that a threat, McCall?” Theo mocked, his gaze flickering from the alpha before him’s face to Lizzie’s nervous and somewhat frustrated one.

“It’s a promise.” Scott warned, and the look in Scott’s eyes as he said it, a flicker of danger and untamed fury that Theo had not once associated with Scott McCall, was enough to silence the chimera.

Theo retreated then, hands up in mock surrender as he made his way towards the elevator doors. He chanced one last smirk back at Elizabeth, not missing the snarl Scott aimed at him, and then was gone.

Scott deflated then, all of the anger draining out of him. “Lizzie, I’m sorry, I know you had it handled but-”

Scott stopped his apologies short as Lizzie let out a pained gasp, clutching her sides and stomach as nausea overtook her. Her head would have collided with the tiled floor as she doubled over in pain if not for Scott’s quick reflexes and strong arms around her, and Scott immediately picked her up bridal style.

Lizzie!” He panicked, unsure as to what was going on. “Lizzie, are you alright?” Elizabeth collapsed in his arms then, and Scott, desperate and frightened by what was happening, sprinted as fast as he could towards his mother.

It’s hard to admit that

Do you still care?

“Severe case of dehydration, sweetheart. You have to take better care of yourself.” Melissa chided Lizzie, a motherly look in her eyes. The Sheriff, recovered and rested thanks to Elizabeth, hovered beside her bed, a worried glint in his eyes matching that of Mrs. Martin’s.

Was there anyone that didn’t love Elizabeth Black? Scott mused to himself.

Lizzie groaned loudly, her head sinking into the pillow. “I swear I’m fine now! I just forgot-”

“Elizabeth Andromeda Black, you collapsed in the waiting room and have been unconscious for several hours! You are not fine.” The Sheriff scolded, and Elizabeth winced at the use of her middle name. Luckily, her father had despised the star tradition enough to settle on only using a star as her middle name rather than her first.

She pouted childishly as the adults around her discussed how long she was to remain in the hospital, and Scott held back a laugh. He had been so relieved to find out that she was alright, but had remained by her bedside ever since he’d set her down there.

“You look like you’re enjoying this far too much.” Lizzie glared playfully at him, crossing her arms over her chest as she angled her body so that she was facing where he was sitting.

“Admittedly, it’s pretty amusing to watch the great Elizabeth Black get scolded for once.” Scott teased, taking her hand in his own as she had done just a mere few days ago, when he’d been lying in a hospital bed in her place.

“Listen, about back there,” Scott softened, suddenly nervous to discuss the events occurring prior to her collapse. “I know you had it handled, believe me, I know, but I… I couldn’t help but be worried.”

Lizzie smiled gently at him, tracing constellations on his hand with her thumb. “There’s nothing to apologize for. Thank you for wanting to protect me. Why were you so worried though?” She questioned curiously, uncertainty in her deep brown eyes.

“Because I care about you,” Scott breathed out, gripping her hand the slightest bit tighter as he leaned closer to whisper to her. “I care about you so much that it hurts sometimes. Makes my chest ache and lungs contract. You mean a lot to me, Lizzie.”

“I care about you too, puppy.” Elizabeth smiled sleepily at him, yawning lightly as she felt the medication Melissa had given her kick in. Scott McCall cared about her, she thought to herself with a grin, Scott McCall worried about her.

“Will you be here when I wake up?” She asked through her sleepy haze, feeling her grip on his hand slacken as his tightened.

“If you want me to be.” He told her honestly, chuckling at her dazed expression.

“I want you to be here.” She mumbled as she dozed off, leaving Scott McCall with a wide, brilliant smile on his face as he continued to observe Elizabeth Black in all her beauty.

The conversation had not gone unnoticed by the three adults present, and all of whom bore similar affectionate smile on their faces.

Will you two just admit it already?

It was just like a movie

It was just like a song

My God, this reminds me

Of when we were young

When we were young

Lizzie groaned, rubbing her temples furiously in frustration. “Nothing. The beast is too unpredictable. Its not planning anything, its running off instinct alone.”

Scott took her hands on his own comfortingly, thanking her anyway for attempting to discern what the beast had in store for the future. “Don’t over exert yourself, Black. Mom would kill me if she found out I even asked you to try.”

She glared pointedly at him, her dark brown eyes alight with annoyance. “I’m fine, Scott.”

He laughed lightly, nudging her gently with his knee as Lizzie felt all of her annoyance melt away at the carefree sound. “I know that, but you know how my mom is. She worries about you.”

Lizzie peered up at Scott, sitting with his legs criss crossed across from her, her position mirroring his own. They were perched on Scott’s roof, Elizabeth having grown tired of being cooped up inside but not permitted by Melissa to leave until she was fully recovered.

Scott observed her, his eyes roving the dark bags underneath her eyes and the unnaturally pale tint of her skin. Sleep deprivation and dehydration will do that to a person, you prat, she’d told Stiles exasperatedly earlier on when he’d tactlessly alerted her to the fact that she looked like hell.

Scott had merely shrugged, amazed that she still managed to take his breath away even when she’d barely slept in days.

“I missed this.” Elizabeth breathed out, playing with Scott’s fingers, a light blush dusting her cheeks. “Being here. Being with you.”

Scott leaned closer to her, pressing a slow kiss to her cheek and pulling back just enough to rest his forehead on hers. “I missed everything about you, Liz. You’re the only thing keeping me going these days.”

“Sometimes I still see you as that adorable sophomore trying to convince me that lacrosse was so much better than quidditch.” She laughed breathlessly, sadness pooling in her eyes as her laughter faded. “I wish things were as simple as they were then.”

“I miss when the only thing trying to kill us was Jackson.” Scott chuckled, the pleasant vibrations sending a shiver down Elizabeth’s spine. “It was an easier time.”

“It was.” Lizzie agreed, pulling back from him in order to collect her thoughts and fighting back a groan at the loss of warmth. She threw her head back to look up at the stars, the night sky so different from back in England. It was so peaceful there on the roof, as if the entire world had paused around them. Perhaps it had.

Scott’s breath caught in his throat as he observed her, her loose blonde curls swaying gently in the breeze and the moon giving her an unnaturally beautiful glow. His eyes trailed down her neck and past her shoulders, halting abruptly at her bare arms.

“It’s new.” Elizabeth laughed, figuring from his sharp intake of breath that he’d noticed the inky black tattoo in the shape of two thick lines encircling her left bicep. “Matches yours.”

A rush of emotion ran through Scott, a brilliant smile overtaking his face at her words. Elizabeth had a small tattoo for each of her loved ones scattered across her body, as a means of honoring and remembering them. paw prints for Sirius, antlers for James, a lightning bolt for Harry, a stack of books for Mione, a put-outer for Ron, two W’s for the Weasley twins, a moon for Remus, a pair of Quibbler glasses for Luna, a constellation for the Black family, a bird for Tonks, a broom for Ginny, a sword for Neville, an arrow for Allison, a bouquet of violets for her mother, a knit maroon sweater for Mrs. Weasley, red string for Stiles, a seashell for Lydia, a scarf for Isaac, a triskelion for Derek, a star for Cora, a sunflower for Danny, a key for Jackson, crimson lips for Erica, a set of wings for Boyd, butterflies for Melissa and Natalie, a gun for Chris, a scotch glass for the Sheriff…

I like having them on me, she’d told Scott once, a blinding smile on her lips, reminds me that I have people who love me. People I have to protect.

They were wizard tattoos, enchanted to move, shift, flutter, and bloom like they were real. Each had been picked by the person for which they were made in honor of or based off of their lives, and Scott loved each and every one of them.

And this one was his.

“I got it a few months back. I was waiting to show it to you in person, but then…” Elizabeth trailed off, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips at the look of pure elation on the young alpha’s face.

“You got one for me.” He declared, still in shock. She nodded at him, holding back her laughter at his expression. He jumped up then, picking her up and spinning her around in a hug. “You got one for me!

And as Scott held her in his arms, the both of them laughing, Elizabeth decided there was no place she would rather be.

Let me photograph you in this light

In case it is the last time

That we might be exactly like we were

Before we realized

We were sad of getting old

It made us restless

I’m so mad I’m getting old

It makes me reckless

It was just like a movie

It was just like a song

When we were young

“It looks like… like a clump of stars?” Scott observed helpfully, making Elizabeth’s entire body shake with laughter.

That is the big dipper.” She whispered as she calmed down, taking his hand and moving it with hers to point to the constellation she was referring to. He smiled, looking over at her as he forgot about the night sky entirely.

It was nothing in comparison to her, anyway.

They were laying out on the roof, hands entwined between them as Elizabeth attempted to point out the constellations to him. Astronomy had always been one of her favorite classes, but Scott couldn’t bring himself to look at the night sky when something so much more mind blowing and beautiful was laying right beside him.

“What are you staring at?” She grinned at him, turning her head so that their noses were pressed against each other.

You.” Scott answered honestly, his answer shocking the both of them. Elizabeth’s heart rate picked up, and Scott held onto the surge of confidence that ran through him for dear life.

“You’re really beautiful, you know that?” Scott whispered to her, caressing her heartbreakingly gorgeous face gently with his rough hand. “I must think that a million times every day.”

Elizabeth sat up quickly then, a blush staining her cheeks a brilliant shade of scarlet as she stammered her thanks and tried to steady her erratic heartbeat. Scott smiled softly at her, sitting up and taking her face in his hands once more.

“Why are you so nervous?” He asked gently, his thumbs tracing patterns on her crimson cheeks. Elizabeth sucked in a deep breath, closing her dark eyes as she collected her thoughts.

You make me nervous.” Lizzie admitted lowly, her eyes peeking up at him through long black lashes.

“Why do I make you nervous?” Scott questioned her, a certain sense of vulnerability in his tone that let Elizabeth know that he really was not sure of what her answer would be.

“Are you really that daft?” Lizzie asked incredulously, pure shock coloring her tone. “I’ve only been in love with you since bloody sophomore year you-”

Elizabeth’s rant was cut off as Scott’s lips pressed against hers, a surprised little gasp falling from her lips before she melted into the kiss. Her fingers tangled themselves in his messy hair as one of his arms dropped down to encircle her waist, pulling her even further into him. He tasted vaguely of chocolate and mint, a strange combination that suited Scott perfectly, while Scott inhaled her intoxicating sea breeze scent and signature berry chapstick.

He pulled away after a few moments, both of them breathing heavily as he rested his forehead against her own. “You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to do that.” He whispered breathlessly, something akin to pure bliss in his eyes as Elizabeth peered into them. “Promise you’ll stay?”

Lizzie’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “What do you mean?”

“Promise you’ll never leave like that again.” He exhaled, sounding desperate. “At least not without me. Because I can’t handle you leaving again, especially not after that because I’m so goddamn in love with you-”

This time it was Elizabeth who cut off Scott, her lips pressing gently to his own in a lingering kiss that left them both the slightest bit breathless and a hell of a lot in love.

“I promise.”

WOW. this is the first thing I’ve posted in forever and I’m super nervous about it… feedback would be ultra appreciated:)

Raw Notes: My Bunked “Overthinking It” Video

Last year in September, back when the Trespasser DLC was fresh in our minds, I was fueled with crazy theories. In the back of my mind, I could not sort my brain out what I thought about Dragon Age, but I basically typed down everything I could to possibly make sense of it. Well…to no avail. That’s why I’m posting all of it.

For fun, let’s embarrass myself a bit and show how much chaotic thought goes through my head when I think of Dragon Age. Or used to. Good times.

For the curious, after the jump are my absolutely jumbled, incoherent thoughts for an “Overthinking It” video that never came to life, that would have been called “The Soul’s Blank Slate”.

Main Points that I would have addressed in this video

  • Souls never die unless they are joined by blood. Then, they’re subject to flesh.
  • Souls are memory wiped every time they died, and restored into borrowed bodies.
  • Souls follow the Conservation of Energy, where energy cannot be neither created nor destroyed, and a soul will simply transition from one form to another. However, the Void is the only thing that can disrupt and…void…that.
  • The magic of the Fade and beyond is boundless. Blood magic is finite. Once you depend on blood, it’s literally “magical castration”. However, while you’re alive, the power of blood is limitless and malleable. (Think Black Holes)
  • Time compression? (I never really said yes or no to this idea, but Shaper Valta and her situation is a stubborn thing to wrap your head around.)

(Note: This is a VERY LONG POST underneath. Also don’t do raw lyrium, folks. Tis bad for you.)

23. Advice

A/N: Written for fanficsunderthestairs’s 1,000 followers challenge. Prompt 3, Ron asks his father for advice.

Ron watches the Burrow from afar, nostalgia of his childhood summers hitting him with a force he didn’t expect.

The sun is setting and the air is warm as he gazes over the yellow burnt grass patches that are all over the land. He doesn’t know if it’s because he has so many conflicting thoughts and emotions at the moment, but he suddenly feels the urge to run down the hill barefoot, arms open and forget about thinking.

He sees a flicker of light in the shed, and knows he has come to the right place.

When he enters, his father is disassembling an iPhone it seems, and it makes Ron smiles. His father never really stopped being fond of Muggle technology. He still asks Hermione and the kids a million questions every time he sees them.

Ron is brought back to the purpose of his visit.

“Hi dad.”

“Ron! Good you’re here, I’ve been trying to figure out what the purpose of this thing is.”

Ron shifts his weight from one foot to another, he is suddenly nervous. What if his dad doesn’t understand? What if he doesn’t have an answer?

“It’s a phone, but it also does all sorts of-”

“A phone! But where are the buttons?”

“It’s a touchscreen.”

His father looks perplexed, but then something shift in his eyes. He looks taken back, like he just realised something.

“What are you doing here at this time of day son?”

Ron sighs, he may as well take the advice he’s came to look for, whether it is good or bad.

He tries to collect his thoughts first. Ron has tried to find a way to express his worries for a while now, but words were never really his thing. He’s gotten better at it, much better, but he still struggles. His father stares at him patiently, trying to hide his worry.

“I don’t know how to say this.”

“Start at the beginning.”

“Okay,” Ron takes a deep breath. “When Ginny was the last one to go to Hogwarts, how was it for you and mum?”

“Well, we didn’t had much time to dwell on it, if you can recall, the Wizarding World was a bit of a mess. Ginny’s first year didn’t really end the best of ways.”

Ron lets out a frustrated cry. “Yeah, I know I remember. That’s not what I’m talking about. I mean, how was it at the house, with just you and mum, and no kids around?”

And just like that, his father figures out the heart of his problem.

“Are you worried about you and Hermione once both Rose and Hugo have gone off to Hogwarts?”

Ron shrugs his shoulders, suddenly unable to look into his father’s eyes. His throat is dry but he doesn’t realise it until he replies and his voice is hoarse. “Well, Hugo is off for his first year in a couple of month. What then? I mean, the last few years have been rough,” his father gives him a look he knows too well. ”You know they have. It’s always been a bit insane between us.”  He pauses, scratching his head uncomfortably. “Since we’ve had the kids, our insanely brilliant kids, it’s really been more about them than about us.”

Ron laughs absentmindedly, trying to recall the last time Hermione and him had simply gone out to dinner, just the two of them.

He can’t remember.

“Have you talked to Hermione about it?”

His dad could have made a comment about how hard it was to manage seven kids and two wars, but he didn’t, and it hits Ron how humble his father is. Tears fill his eyes and he angrily wants to push them back inside. He is a mess.

“She’s been busy, you know. Her work is very demanding, what she’s doing is important to her and the greater good. We all know that. It’s just…” He sounds bitter, and he doesn’t want to be, because he is so proud of her. But there’s a part of him that hates her job.

They’ve been fighting a lot lately -more than usual- and he’s been afraid of what the house will be like once it’ll just be the two of them.

Will they be strangers?

“You and Hermione love each other,” his father assures him as he lays a hand on his shoulder, forcing Ron to look at him.

“I know!” Ron half cries, “but what if this is too much for us?”

His father breathes deeply and gestures for Ron to sit on an armchair in the corner of the room. He then proceeds to turn the kettle on and prepare tea for the two of them. As he does so, they both remain silent. Ron lost in his own thoughts, and Arthur trying to gather his.

“Your mother hated it,” his father finally tells him as he hands Ron his tea. “I guess you’re more like her than you’d thought. She disliked the silence more than anything. She’d fuss around the house and pick up a fight with me as soon as I got home. It wasn’t pretty. And I won’t lie to you, there’s time I thought that maybe we wouldn’t make it.”

Ron almost chokes on his tea.

“You and mum?”

His father nods. “We’d known each other nearly all our lives and life evolved around you kids for so long that once you were all gone, we had to figure out each other again. Because you change. People change.”

“What did you do?”

“One day I watched her hum one of those Celestina Warbeck songs that she likes as she was knitting and I fell in love with her all over again.”

Ron nods slightly. His mind wander to a few days earlier, when he caught Hermione reading the journal at breakfast and the light caught her hair perfectly, he had felt his heart race in his chest at the sight.

“I don’t really know how to explain it,” his father continues. “But I do know Hermione and you have been through a lot, more than most people have. It’s a strength. Remember it.”

They both turn quiet as they finish their teas. Ron attempts to collect his thoughts.

He remembers that he had hated her, when they first met. He then recalls their fourth year and how he couldn’t tell jealousy and anger apart. He closes his eyes and lowers his head between his hands. The Horcruxes hunt is one of his worst memories, the constant fear; the dark thoughts the locket brought; the resentment and hatred he felt the day he left; Hermione’s screams as Bellatrix tortured her. It still gives him cold sweat.

His father is right, they’ve been through a lot. Good and bad. He pictures Hermione at the end of her seventh year, wearing the biggest smile and the pride he felt surge in his heart when he had seen her that day. Without warning, he is invaded by more vivid images of good things they’ve shared. Milestones and insignificant Sundays spent in bed on a rainy day. It’s almost too much.

He needs to talk to her. And figure this out. What they have is too special to throw it all away.

His tea has gone cold but he doesn’t care. Ron bolts up, hugs his father and thanks him.

“One more thing son,” his father adds, amusement dancing in his eyes, as Ron passes the door of the shed. “Perks of having the kids away, you have the house to yourselves and you don’t need a silencing charm.”
