a new quote has been born

SEPTEMBER 29: Halsey (1994-)

After the music video for “Ghost” dropped in the summer of 2015, Halsey shot onto every wlw’s radar. Today, the bisexual pop icon turns 23-years-old. Happy birthday Halsey!!

The second single from Halsey’s Hopeless Fountain Kingdom album, “Strangers,” featuring fellow bisexual singer Lauren Jauregui, has also been bopped to by every wlw with an internet connection since its release in May of this year (x).

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane was born on September 29, 1994 in Clark, New Jersey. She was musically inclined from a very young age and played violin, viola, cello, and guitar by the time she was 14-years-old. When she was 17, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after a suicide attempt and a 17-day stint in a psychiatric hospital. Early on in her career, there was a quote floating around claiming Halsey called herself a “tri-bi” – a bisexual, biracial, and bipolar woman, but she has since debunked such claims. After falling in with a boyfriend addicted to heroin and dropping out of college, Halsey’s parents kicked her out of the house and she was left floating in and out of friend’s basements. She had been writing poems and songs ever since she was a child and after performing at a small party one night, she was approached by a producer. The song “Ghost” eventually blew up on SoundCloud and led Ashley Frangipane into the studio and into a new life as Halsey.

The second music video released for the song “Ghost” shows Halsey with a female love interest.

She chose the name Halsey as a stage name because it was an anagram of the name Ashley, as well as the fact that much of her street kid days were spent on Halsey Street station in Brooklyn. In 2014, she began touring with big names such as The Kooks and Imagine Dragons and released her very first E.P., Room 93. During the months leading up to the release of her first album, Badlands, Halsey’s internet fandom exploded and interest in her music was at an all-time high. While the song “Ghost” was originally written about an ex-boyfriend and an early music video featured Halsey with a male love interest, a newer music video showing Halsey with a woman was released in June of 2015 and garnered her an entire new fanbase of young wlw. This year her second album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, was released and the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour begins TODAY! Have you gotten your tickets yet? Which Halsey song is your favorite?

The egg has been broken

Remember that Herman Hesse quote about Demian from the beginning of the series?

“The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world.

Eto also compared the world to an egg, that must be broken, and to give birth to something new you must destroy.

Now Kaneki in chapter 144, after consuming tons of the Oggai kids and eating everything from his past, is emerging as an gigantic organism from the depths of the 24th ward, with enough power to crash trough ground and emerge to the surface of Toyko.

I´d say that at that point the world (egg) has been broken. The surface of Tokyo could symbolize the shell of an egg, and Kaneki`s gigantic form is crushing it`s way trough that shell. Something new was born, and the old world was surely destroyed. Things can`t go on the same after this.

Fantasie ist wichtiger als Wissen, denn Wissen ist begrenzt.

He developed the theory of relativity, one of the 2 pillars of modern physics alongside quantum mechanics). Einstein is best known for his mass–energy equivalence formula E = mc2, which has been dubbed “the world’s most famous equation”. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics for his services to theoretical physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect, a pivotal step in the evolution of quantum theory. OCTOBER 27: Fran Lebowitz (1950-)

Happy birthday to Fran Lebowitz! The author, actress, and “modern day Dorothy Parker” turns 67-years-old today.

Fran has also been dubbed a “famously contrarian humorist” (x).

Frances Ann Lebowitz was born on October 27, 1950 in Morristown, New Jersey. She was raised in a middle-class Jewish family, but claims she had been an atheist since the age of 7. One of her famous quotes on Jewish identity reads, “Jewish identity is ethnic or cultural or whatever people call it now, but it’s not religious.” A “trouble child,” she was expelled from her high school before graduating but was able to receive a GED.

In her early years, Fran worked various low paying jobs and was struggling to get by, but her “big break” came when she was hired by Andy Warhol to come on as a columnist at Interview Magazine. She made a name for herself at Interview and her specific brand of wit became a staple of the mag. This was followed by a columnist position at Mademoiselle Magazine and two essay collections titled Metropolitan Life and Social Studies. She had a recurring role on Law & Order from 2001 to 2007, made several appearances on Late Night David Letterman, and has two infamous works-in-progress titled Progress and Exterior Signs of Wealth.

Although she has never had a public coming out, it has become somewhat of a known fact in New York society that Fran Lebowitz is a lesbian. Her butch fashion sense has become iconic and she was named one of Vanity Fair’s internationally best dressed women of 2007. The most Fran has spoken publicly about LGBT matters was is her critiques of the community’s fixation on marriage equality. In an interview with Paper Magazine in 2014, she had this to say:

“The idea that those words [‘gay marriage’] are together is so hilarious to me. As I’ve said numerous times, I know that people wanted it, now they can do it in New York. I say ‘they’ not because I’m not gay, but because I’m not getting married. In a million years I never would have thought of this. People always say, ‘You were always fighting for this, right?’ No, I wasn’t. I wasn’t that kind of political activist. I never even imagined that anyone was even thinking about this, which I don’t think they were in 1971. To me, this goes more along with the other ways in which this culture is how it was in the 1950s. For me, if you want to get married, get married, I don’t care. I frankly don’t understand why people get married. When I was young, nobody did. It seems to me so confined.”

« Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, 17th-century poet, scholar, and dramatist of New Spain, has frequently been claimed as a literary foremother to contemporary Mexicana, Chicana, and Latina writers. […] Born Juana Ramírez de Asbaje, Sor Juana was a self-taught prodigy who won the attention of the court of New Spain. A favorite of the Vicereina Leonor Carreto, Marquesa de Mancera, Juana was examined by more than forty scholars in a failed attempt to find a gap in her education. Although she entered the convent of San Jerónimo in Mexico City, she was by no means isolated from society. Two volumes of her work were published in Madrid during her lifetime, and one volume posthumously. She is best known for her defense of women in “Carta Atenagórica” (1690). For many Chicana writers, she represents the beginning of 300 years of Mexicana creativity.

[…] Problematically for Chicana feminists, Octavio Paz’s Sor Juana, or The Traps of Faith (1988), has served as the authoritative text on the 17th-century nun. Paz’s early theoretical discussion, The Labyrinth of Solitude (1961), renders Chicano/a culture in explicitly masculinist, sexist, and homophobic terms. That the only modern biography of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz—the “first feminist of the Americas”—should be written by Paz seems to add insult to injury.
[…] Paz talks himself into circles to prove that Sor Juana could not have been a “lesbian” in the 20th-century sense. At one point he contends, “Of course Sor Juana was bisexual, but what does that say? All but a handful of humanity is bisexual”. Paz’s argument about Sor Juana’s relationship with the Vicereina María Luisa Manrique de Lara suggests that if there was any “homosocial attachment” between the women, it is a result of the sexually segregated society in which Sor Juana lived. […]
Implicit in this argument is the belief that “an object of the opposite sex”—that is, a man—is the (only) appropriate object of a woman’s desire. Thus, Paz argues, if homosexuality is present, it is clearly “situational homosexuality.” Certain women, it is known, when placed in a women-only environment (say, a women’s prison), have been known to engage in homosexual activity. However, when they are out in the “real world,” they engage in heterosexual activity. Thus if Sor Juana felt she was “in love” with the Vicereina, it is merely an attribute of circumstance.
[…] Paz admits, “The hypothesis I have just outlined does not necessarily exclude the presence of Sapphic tendencies in the two friends. Neither does it include them. Any comment on this subject would be mere supposition; we lack facts and documents”. He goes on to argue that no matter how passionate the relationship between the two women, it must have been chaste.

[…In] Portillo Trambley’s Sor Juana, young Juana enters the convent when she finds that Bernardo, her lover, is betrothed to a peninsular noblewoman. Bernardo is a fictional device: there is no historical evidence that Juana ever had such a suitor. In spite of this lack of evidence, however, many of Sor Juana’s biographers have proposed a romantic disappointment as the reason she entered the convent. There is also no evidence that Sor Juana’s feelings for Núñez de Miranda were romantic or sexual. She wrote no love poems to Núñez de Miranda. She did, however, write love poems to the Condesa de Paredes. As Gaspar de Alba argues in “The Politics of Location,” Sor Juana’s biographers consistently try to prove her heterosexuality without evidence while at the same time arguing against her lesbianism in spite of the evidence. »

love at first sight

here we go!! mysme week day 2, “how the characters fell in love with mc”. a little different style, but hopefully just as good!

@mysticmessengerweek hope you guys enjoy!!

Falling for you wasn’t hard. The moment you cared for him and let him express his sorrow was the moment he began to feel longing coat his cheeks in blush pink when he read your name and infiltrate his thoughts at late hours. Yours was the name on his lips that he breathed out before he tumbled into sleep. Yours was the voice that echoed in his head, soft and breathless and utterly distracting. When he met you, he was overjoyed, the abundance of emotion rendering him speechless, but not motionless, arms pulling you against him, soft and gentle and wanting. Looking into your eyes for the first time was a confirmation, not a beginning. From the moment you two had truly talked, he had been all yours.

She was cautious in love, as she was in all things, the bitten pink of her lips and hesitant taps on her phone evidence of her prudence. Even after meeting you, even after beginning a new life with you, she would be mindful. She would realize it first, however, waking up beside you for the first time after a pleasant night of dreams, the robin’s egg blue of the sheets contrasting with your skin nicely. You were ethereal, and the tugs at her heart would make it all too clear to her what she was feeling. It was only when you blinked your eyes open and offered her a sugar smile that she would understand that she had loved you all along.

Love was binding, a contract not easily broken. This was what he was taught, and until recently, it was what he believed. He couldn’t trust your open face, your bright smile, your supportive words. There was something that you wanted from him, something he knew he couldn’t give. You kept on painting the world with your smiles, though, and finally, he understood, sunshine yellow the only separation between his hand of yours and bubblegum pink exploding across his vision when your lips met. You gave your love to everyone, but to none more so than him, and he realized that love was not a contract, but rather an investment; if you use it right, you win big. Judging by the way that he woke up, the scent of pancakes drifting through the pale lemon room, he would say that he hit the jackpot.

1) You were an angel, wings big enough to support both him and you as you carried him toward the land of dreams, leaving him heady with desire and intoxicated by your grace. 10) You understood him like no one else did, each unspoken word between the two of you a cipher that he loved to watch you decode, feeding off the way your eyes lit up and met his. 11) You tasted like cherries and honey and potent desperation, clinging to each other like the sky was falling and only the two of you knew. 100) He was never in love with you, with the way that you turned away from him and stole his things and asked too much. 101) He was always in love with you, from that very first moment, with the way that you surprised him with little gifts and wore his hoodies and gave him so much that he could never repay you for what you had done for him.

As much as he liked to joke, you were the one thing he was serious about, the familiar dancing crimson of his eyes hardening to a brilliant ruby. He was a flirt and a narcissist and had more vices than he could count, and yet your eyes never cooled when they met his. They burned more brightly than his ever could, passion and intensity echoing in their eternal gaze. He knew he was in love with you the moment you were beside him, hands locked in an embrace more intimate than any previous one could compare. Each day, he fell more and more in love with you, the red strength of his eyes turned into an all-encompassing scarlet.

He was a fool. That, he would admit to anyone, except perhaps Zen. He looked at you and saw the world in shades of blue, the soft cerulean of your hair, the deep azure of your kisses, and the timeless aegean of your gaze reverberating in his core like you delivered a message to his soul. You did, your embraces telling of your excitement, your gentle touches of your contentment, even your harsh words, telling of your disappointment; each told him an unforgettable story, one he vowed to take to heart. The day he fell in love with you was the day that you proved to him that anything was possible with the two of you, the world spinning not on its axis, but off its preconceived orbit into a new realm of possibilities.

To say that V realized he was in love with you would be a misconception; since he was born, he has been in love with you. This fact is undeniable, carved in stone and painted on the crook of your neck, the place he likes to bury his face when life gets to be too much and he needs time to relax. The two of you laugh at cheesy love quotes, and for all his sweet words, he knows they’re false. The two of you can’t be from the same star; you shine far too brightly for that. Instead, he’s happy to be your stellar system, a series of smaller, dimmer moments that revolve around you, forever supporting you. V has loved you since the beginning of time. You don’t come from the same star, but to him, you’ve always been the most important.

What's your favorite quote?

“You’re born into the world thinking that you are entering into an industry that people understand. Or you’re entering a world thats been seen before. And seldom do you sort of wake up to the realization that you’re the explorer. In most cases you assume that there is some history to what you’re doing. When you’re young and you find yourself in a new industry that’s new to you, you assume there must be someone out there that has the answers. And then you wake up and realize the answers are being written. You are the precedent.”

Located at the crossroads of America, Indiana wrestled with the conflicting traditions of Yankee and Appalachian settlers. Having sided with the North during the Civil War and sheltered runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad, in the 1920s Indiana had the largest state membership in the resurgent Ku Klux Klan. Known for its political conservatism and insularity, Indiana was home to socialist Eugene V. Debs and Republican and One World proponent Wendell Wilkie, unsuccessful presidential candidates whose philosophies and global visions extended far beyond the banks of the Wabash. And despite its staunchly anticommunist stand during the Cold War, Indiana had been home to Robert Owen’s early-nineteenth-century utopian experiment that briefly flourished in New Harmony.

Jean Preer, “Counter Culture: The World as Viewed from Inside the Indianapolis Public Library, 1944-1956”

This article goes on to talk about Marion McFadden, the director of the Indianapolis Public Library, and the impact her insistence on promoting diversity in reading and a space for public discourse had on the library. I’ve quoted it here because McFadden was from Shelbyville, where Bucky Barnes was born.

It is very strange to be a lover of what is. It is familiar to be a lover of some things and not other things. But when you have this new experience of loving just what is, it is also strangely familiar. It’s like a sense of knowing that it has always been this way. It seems very ancient, yet also just born.

I'm really digging that Griffin theory, so I thought that maybe we could actually find out about the Griffins being important if in the flashback about Rebecca, someone calls her Rebecca Griffin or something like that. Then later Titus finds out about Clarke being a Griffin

That’s how i was thinking they would do it too! You would have a wait…Griffin…what? I was trying to think of //why// Clarke would learn about something so sacred to the Grounders. Why would she learn something that it seems like only Commanders and Titus probably know the full extent of? There has to be something ‘special’ about Clarke that would make her privy to this information. AND all of the quotes in the show that allude to this “She’s special” “No one (Clarke) has done what you have.” “You were born for this, same as me.” So, my thought was that it is either Rebecca’s last name is Griffin or another doctor who remained in space’s last name was Griffin. This doctor stayed in space while Rebecca took the space capsule with the code to earth. A reminder that people on the Ark have been genetically engineered, so they had to have had some station or doctors that new about eugenics and knew how to modify DNA.

These line of ALIE’s stands out to me when she was talking about a code being ON THE ARK: “It will likely be a dormant program, that or an unfinished one.” “I remain certain that Becca went into space. Unfortunately, it appears that she wasn’t on any of the 12 stations that made up the Ark.”

Now, if Rebecca came down to earth….how could her descendants be in space? The only way I can think of that the Griffin bloodline is a descendant of Rebecca’s is if she brought her child into space with her to protect them against ALIE. That or she somehow was pregnant while she was in space in 2052 when ALIE released the bombs. MAYBE she was pregnant with her child in space when she injected herself with a ‘serum’ and that also changed the DNA of her child while inutero. Or maybe she injected her child after he/she was born. This child would have in it’s blood a ‘dormant’ code that is unfinished. So, ALIE was right… there was a dormant and unfinished code on the Ark…but it isn’t in the mainframe; it is in the Griffin DNA. It isn’t in a machine, but inside a human. Rebecca wasn’t on any of the 12 stations that made up the Ark…but Clarke was.

Rebecca could have hidden the part of the code that could complete Version 2.0 in space (hidden inside her child’s DNA), so that just in case ALIE got a hold of what she brought down in the space capsule she couldn’t ‘upgrade’.  Maybe this is why Clarke is forced into the City of Light? Maybe she is forced so that ALIE can be ‘plugged into brain (a human mainframe)’ to search for this code in her DNA. Maybe the Version 2.0 that Rebecca brought down is only to make sure she keeps her legacy alive. The Polaris City of Light makes sure that the Commanders never forget the mission to defeat ALIE, and are ‘safeguards’ against ALIE 1.0 ddue to their Nightblood. The infinity sign is a sacred symbol so that all documentation on ALIE (or even ALIE herself) is brought to Polis so that ALIE can be destroyed. Anyways, the Polaris City of Light isn’t a complete Version of an AI – it is only part of it that only allows 1 person to enter at a time…The Commander. This is why a Commander must die for another one to be called. The Nightblood running through their body has to ‘die’ and disconnect from this Polaris City of Light in order for another Nightblood to ‘connect’.

Getting back to this ‘Griffin Last Name’ Theory…I mention the Doctor’s last name might be Griffin because Rebecca (if her last name is Griffin) would want to hide her child from ALIE or the child would just take the Doctor’s last name. So if this Doctor took Rebecca’s baby, this child would then have the last name Griffin. Rebecca when she came down to earth might have made sure that there was documentations or knowledge passed down of the importance to the Griffin last name. Lineage could be traced back to someone with this DNA, even if there was a name change due to marrying. Now, what punches holes in this theory is marrying and the taking of the ‘husband’s’ name. So, if Clarke never came down to earth, then married a man and had a child….that child would then have Clarke’s husband’s last name, and the ‘Griffin’ name would be no more.

Does this make the theory that Clarke is somehow connected to the AI and special wrong? Not necessarily. It just means that there would have to be a different ‘marker’ to show that Clarke is somehow ‘special’ – something other than her last name. Maybe she suddenly gets a headache ‘vision’ while Titus is pointing the gun at her and that is what makes him stop. Maybe the candles blow out in the room and that is some sort of ‘signal’ to Titus. Idk.

This code could be passed though the maternal line. If you know anything about DNA, you will know that mitochondrial DNA is an EXACT copy of the mothers’ mitochondrial DNA, while the fertilized egg is a mixture of both the mother and father’s nuclear DNA. It is on the mother’s side that the mitochondrial DNA is replicated and passed down. Therefore, with the ‘DNA’ theory….it is more likely that it is Abby that passed this code onto Clarke – through mitochondrial DNA since it is an exact replica. But, maybe it is the mixing of the nuclear DNA of a Griffin and (whatever Abby’s maiden name is) is what makes Clarke special – the mixing is what completes the code inside the human body with the previous genetic modification of people living on the Ark. Honestly though, there are many things that can poke holes in this theory – especially the one child rule. Due to the one child rule, any female born on the Ark – whatever her last name was, would end once they married. Abby’s last name died when she married Jake and had a child, and the Griffin last name would die if Clarke got married and had a child.

But, like i said, does this totally disprove that there is something special inside Clarke that is somehow the ‘code’? No. it would just have to somehow be ‘identified’ through a different means than Clarke’s last name. However, for the show’s purposes….they could easily just write it off and the viewers could buy into this ‘Griffin’ theory without thinking about all the variables of name changing and all the ‘stuff’ that could disprove it. Or maybe by sheer dumb luck, there has been nothing but male ‘Griffins’ to pass down the name.

In conclusion, this is how our main protagonist would be connected to the City of Light and would then be ‘privy’ to learning information about ALIE, Rebecca, etc.  Perhaps the visions of Jake was somehow connecting Clarke to that part of her DNA. Maybe Griffins live forever in the Polaris City of Light too…or maybe another part of it. Maybe the berries are what helped ‘unlock’ this part of her brain, by opening some pathway.

Touching post by Iwate's local mask hero Maburitto Kiba

As night falls, the incessant rings from the mass media ceases. Honestly, I can’t help but feel despondent to the attitude & approach of the media.

I think I have seen a new side that I have not seen since the great earthquake reports. So that we will not forget about it, I intend to leave it in print.

After the unfortunate incident (at AKB48’s H/S event) occurred until evening today, staggering amount of news & media outlet have contacted us for interviews & exclusive coverage. The phone rang incessantly.

“Tell us the situation there”, “Introduce us to people who have witness the incident”, “Comment on the members who visited before & was attacked”, “Ask the children about their opinion on this incident”… the requests gets exceedingly astonishing.

Within, are also mass media from Iwate who we have been indebted with since “What can I do for someone?” project was initiated 3 years ago. The way they turn their backs to us simultaneously disappoints me.

Those who normally say “Thank you for visiting us” during interviews have suddenly start airing indiscriminately words of people who clearly do not know the real details of the incident. They scramble to be the first to obtain uncertain information “Did you see them bleeding?”, “Introduce us to people who were traumatized by the incident”

In order to get what they want, they even went as far as contacting the children & the town folks persistently.

Before, the same mass media from this prefecture told me face-to-face “The diorama looks awesome but it does not have any journalism value. And I don’t intend on reporting about it because Yamada town has a bad image due to NPO issue”

And immediately when this incident occurs, their attitude changes and they start their news coverage aggression. Just like during the great earthquake, they don’t really care about the truth. Theirs is a news coverage angle with a script in hand. They won’t stop until they get the exact comment they need to back up their conceptual story. From the start their brand of journalism already have the notion of “It must be this way”.

It was typical media stance. But this is not the reason I felt the need to leave this in print.

From here onwards will be the new side that I have never seen before even during the earthquake disaster.

Of course, I had predicted that these media outlets would contact the town folks and had fears that the town folks & children would have accepted the interview without hesitation. I was worried that it would cause more anxiety towards them.

So, imagine my surprise when I heard that all of the town folks had refused to be interviewed since they felt that the intent of the interview was not for the sake of the members’ best interest.

There were many consoling words from the town folks and people who have been living in the temporary shelters directed to the members, staff & fans that are in shock,
“It must be terrible. It’s too much. I can’t stop sympathizing with them in my heart.”, “Even while there is a need to construct something that is safe, they should still consider the fun as equally important & not practice too much self-restraint”

For folks in the disaster struck areas, the towns’ people regardless of parents or children, their stance is to not be taken advantage of during this chaos. And more importantly to avoid causing negative image towards the members & fans who they felt indebted to all these time. I admire greatly the way they manage to linked their hearts together and rejected all requests from mass media.

How in the world did they manage to have this kind of coordination & cooperative decision? During the great earthquake, there were no such stance towards the media. It is a wonder.

Before this, (AKB48’s) management staff & members have asked me,

“With just 1 day of visit, does it really help? It’s a difficult thing. We come to disaster struck areas with the intention of providing strength but it is always the other way around. We are the ones gaining strength from everyone. How can we really be of help? While pondering about the answer, we shall continue our activities.”

I was not able to really answer it at that time.

But now, I can finally answer with great confidence. (AKB48) has certainly became the source of courage for the local people.

All the members, staffs, fans have gained the utmost trust and love from the folks at disaster struck areas.

“Next is our turn to protect the members!” the town folks say.

I cried.

Members always say,

“I wonder if someone like me could be of help”

I wish to convey to them that yes, you are helping. You have already become their beacon of hope.

The sweat & tears of continuing “What can I do for someone?” project is not a waste. We have struggled and reached this answer at last.

The fans that came all the way from far away places just to see the diorama, people within the prefecture who came from 2000km away. Everyone wants to be useful to the disaster struck areas, eat a lot, laugh a lot and they even travel to the far coastal areas which has been struck.

Those efforts, the sincerity & good faith, the kindness have all come together and moved the heavy hearts of the town folks and people from all the areas visited.

Something new that was not there during the disaster has been born. I was just standing in the forefront of it all and did not realize it.

I just received a call from a child who had lost his parents during the disaster,

“Kiba-san, lets make the diorama! It is forbidden for us to stand still!”

That’s right, there is future. I’m sure hope is waiting for us just ahead.

<Kiba-san quoted Annin’s post from Feb 9th 2014 about disaster area visits and her pledge to continue it even though they might not contribute much help>

“Abel wasn’t talking to God, he was talking to Lucifer. Lucifer was gonna make my brother into his pet.”

This quote from First Born, I didn’t consider it all too significant the first time I heard it, but now with Season 9 ended… it is massively important. The phrasing, his pet, solidifies for me that Crowley has absolutely been framed as the new Lucifer (which was a suspicion I’d had since noticing the similarity between this image:

and this image from The End:

Because just as Lucifer had been speaking with Abel, grooming him to become his ‘pet’ (that is, until Cain stepped in and stopped him by offering himself instead), Crowley has absolutely been manipulating Dean into that same role (which I’ve spoken about before here and here). There has been so much this season being suggestive of Dean as taking on a Hellhound sort of role to be instructed by his controller, Crowley (for example, see here) that just fits so well. Crowley has absolutely been setting himself up to be the next Lucifer with Dean at his command and Do You Believe in Miracles saw him succeed in that. And just as Cain brought darkness onto the world, so too shall Dean at the behest of his master.

Inspiration is not the exclusive privilege of poets or artists. There is, there has been, there will always be a certain group of people whom inspiration visits. It’s made up of all those who’ve consciously chosen their calling and do their job with love and imagination. It may include doctors, teachers, gardeners — I could list a hundred more professions. Their work becomes one continuous adventure as long as they manage to keep discovering new challenges in it. Difficulties and setbacks never quell their curiosity. A swarm of new questions emerges from every problem that they solve. Whatever inspiration is, it’s born from a continuous ‘I don’t know.’

So I went to New York City to be born again. It was and remains easy for most Americans to go somewhere else and start anew. I wasn’t like my parents. I didn’t have any supposedly sacred piece of land or shoals of friends to leave behind. Nowhere has the number zero been of more philisophical value than in the United States…. and when the [train] plunged into a tunnel under New York City, with it’s lining of pipes and wires, I was out of the womb and into the birth canal.

Canon Information About Zim's Age

What canon information is there about Zim’s age?

  • In NanoZim, Zim says that he’s been flying ships since before Dib was born.
  • In Tak: The Hideous New Girl, Tak’s Invader training on Devastis happened 50 years ago. Zim was there as well.

Can anyone remember any more instances in the show or does anyone have any cited quotes from creators talking about Zim’s age? I know that there is a widespread belief that Jhonen has said that Zim is 116 or 150 or something, but I’ve never actually been able to find real evidence of the quote.

(Of course all of this info begs the question of differences between Earth years and Irken years…)
