Why is SOTUS The Series the best Thai BL series ever made?

After one year, I still can’t pinpoint the reason.

Maybe because the theme has taken on a specific culture experienced by Thai college students that is really happening in real life. I’m not Thai but I’m familiar with that kind of university tradition because there are some schools and groups in my country that also practice hazing. As I learned from news, it’s supposed to be controversial. It’s supposed to be humiliating and violent. It’s supposed to have strong social impact. During the first few episodes, I felt the tension and fear of being hazed but it was used in the series lightly as it moved along. Even though the series opened a discussion whether SOTUS is generally good or bad for the youth and society, the approach was more comical than actual, more informative than enlightening and more systematic than brutal. The writer has mainly used SOTUS for the purpose of having a concrete structure in the story rather than taking it as an opportunity to take a stand and come up with moral implications. Nonetheless, there was social relevance. It was an eye-opener for an outsider like me.

Maybe because the idea of infusing a boy-to-boy romance in a concept like SOTUS seemed farfetched. It is a love story between a freshman and a senior situated in hazing culture. The newcomer Kongpob was headstrong. The head hazer Arthit was vicious. Despite the knowledge of a happy ending, at the beginning I was clueless. There’s no way they will end up together based on mere impression. There were no hints on how the succession of hazing activities will ever lead to romantic scenes. A relationship blossoming in a constrictive environment was impossible. But my cluelessness led to curiosity and that made me jumped on the train.

Maybe because the building up of their relationship was slow-paced. As I’ve observed from previous BL series, it would only take approximately five episodes for the main characters to start realizing their feelings for each other and then develop from there. It happened in Love Sick, 2 Moons and even Addicted. In SOTUS, it wasn’t the case. It was a long and winding road. Most of the time, it was all about the SOTUS system, which is a good thing because that is the main theme and the romance only comes secondary. But I was counting on the love story. I was on the edge of my seat every episode looking forward to if there will ever be a small progress. Twelve episodes gone by, there was almost nothing. It was a waiting game. But the pacing of the development of their relationship was realistic, slowly but surely. And I didn’t feel it was dragging. I knew something was worth waiting for. After witnessing everything, the feeling was just pure happiness and contentment. When everything has fallen into place, it was euphoric.

Maybe because of Kongpob, the first year student who fell in love and persevered to pursue the love of his life. If I remember correctly, the novel was written in third-person point of view. But in the course of the story, it was all about Kongpob’s perspective. He was the primary point of reference. We felt the hardships he has gone through during the initiation period. We felt his victories when he won the sports events and the Star & Moon Competition. We felt his simple joys whenever he was given a chance to interact with Arthit. He had a mission and we, as audience, were standing before him like we got his back. In the process of achieving his goal, we were with him on his emotional roller coaster - his sadness, his excitement, his pain, his triumph, his hopelessness, his rapture, his heartbreak. Resulting to a one-sided love was foreseeable. He was on the verge of giving up but he didn’t. He truly gave his heart, not just the gear, and it was an inspiration.

Maybe because of the metaphors that gave much more meaning to the story. Kongpob personifying the moon and Arthit the sun - a simple symbolism that showed the protagonists’ personalities as well as their obvious contrast. The iced coffee and pink milk were not supposed to mean anything but they have embodied the peculiar traits of the two characters. It just goes to show that they have their own quirks and they were used very well to reference each other in the series. The gear symbolizing the heart had the strongest impact. Giving your gear to someone meant letting that someone to take care of your heart. For the giver, it’s a moment of vulnerability. For the receiver, it’s a moment to prove you’re worthy. The use of the gear has romanticized the plot with engineering students as main characters undergoing hazing. Originally, it’s a symbol of an engineering student’s pride. In the end, it has become a symbol of Kongpob and Arthit’s love.

Maybe because of Arthit, the quick-tempered, condescending senior, who brought the unpredictable element to the story. His actions were very uncalculated throughout. He was like a ticking bomb always about to explode without time limit. He was perceived as the villain to our hero Kongpob but for a reason. If the point of view of the story centered around Kongpob, the character development focused solely on Arthit. His profile was set up in the most unapproachable way but in the end he’s the sweetest thing. He was responsible for all of the most memorable romantic moments in the series. When it was his turn to reciprocate, everything went magical - when he was having heartfelt conversations with his close friends to discuss his confused feelings towards Kongpob, when he chased after Kongpob at the wedding, when the dreamy Rama VIII Bridge scene happened, when he surrendered to his feelings and gave his gear, when he replaced Kongpob’s old dirty string with couple bracelets, when he finally asked Kongpob for a date at the rooftop and, above all, when he declared his love at the party in front of everyone. It was Kongpob who planted the seeds but it was Arthit who made them grow. It was truly remarkable. He is indeed the sunshine of the show.

Maybe because of Singto and Krist who brought Kongpob and Arthit to life. They were new in the business and their chemistry wasn’t obvious in the beginning. Their acting was better compared to most actors of their age but I feel like they could still dig deeper. But the most interesting part is they have known each other before everything started. They studied in the same university taking up the same course where Singto was the hazer and Krist was his junior. They have first-hand experience of how it was like to undergo the SOTUS system. Their appeal comes from the fact that there was a connection even before they’ve become popular. It worked to their advantage as if they were destined to portray the roles. They may not be the most comfortable with their acting skills yet but they were very comfortable with each other. The effect of the overall chemistry was sensational. The fans went insane and the real-life friendship has made everyone delusional. Of course, they will never end up together. I’m bursting my own bubble here. But the fact remains that Singto and Krist started their journey as actors together. Side by side from being nobody, they went through the highs and lows in the process of earning fame and success. SOTUS put them on the map and unexpectedly became the Thai BL superstars that they are right now. I’m a huge sucker to cute backstories and this is my most favorite. I will treasure it forever.

So, why is SOTUS The Series the best Thai BL series ever made?

Of course, other people will argue that it’s not. The development was prolonged, the acting was not the best, the last episode was unnecessary, the SOTUS storyline was a missed opportunity, the editing lacked consistency, the portrayal of supposedly gay characters was inaccurate, the romantic scenes needed more intimacy and the list goes on. Other people could prove to me that it’s just another Thai BL series but here I am still thinking and wanting to defend why it is the best of all time. All I know is that I got emotionally invested. It was my first time to sign up on an online Asian forum to keep myself updated. It was my first time to create a separate blog solely for a tv series. It was my first time to purchase online to collect photobooks. I dragged my friends to fly to Bangkok to see the Rama VIII bridge. I attended a fan meeting in Bangkok to see Singto and Krist in person despite the language barrier. I went to Bangkok twice this year just to drink pink milk.

After a year and all the SOTUS memories, I still can’t pinpoint the reason.

~Blog Appreciation~

Okay so I just got a message from someone saying some rude shit about my latest post, the mtmte Halloween category ask.

Naturally, that’s got me feeling pretty shitty because last night, I worked hard on that request. It was the first time in a while that I had my inspiration up and was able to write a lot. I felt good! Great even about my work!

And then someone messages me that my post was too long and I should consider writing less so ‘people will actually be interested’.

Look, lately there’s been a lot of hate on tf blogs. I mean, everywhere on Tumblr. But it’s sad because I know a lot of the tf blogs are run by wonderful people and it’s disheartening when we receive hate for just doing our best!

Like I know @cybertronianrecords recently had to deal with hate and I’m upset because they’re an amazing writer? And now I’ve received hate two days in a row? And I’m sure many others have been experiencing this.

So I just want to say to all the writers out there who might be going through the same thing, just know you are amazing, you work hard, and your work is ALWAYS appreciated.

I’m not going to let nasty people get me down or make me feel bad about my writing and y'all shouldn’t either.

I also got an ask recently about recommending some good tf blogs! Now I’m pretty sure I’ve done this before but that’s okay. I love supporting other blogs and I know it will boost everyone’s mood.

2014-2015  favorite Kdramas list

I decided to split this list (Also 2016-Mid 2017 favorite kdramas list here) in half. Please have in mind that I’m introducing kdramas I completed and liked.

Prime minister and I: I know a lot of people don’t like huge age gaps between the main leads but I didn’t mind it personally. After ‘Love rain’ this is the best Yoona kdrama in my opinion.

Sassy Go Go: I pretty much like every drama Eun Ji was in.

anonymous asked:

You did a most beautiful one piece girls list, can you do the same for most handsome guys??? (btw I loved your choices with the girls)

Ok this is HELLA old Imma apologize right away for a taking so long and b that I’m doing a top 14 list, rather than top 10 list because they’re much more male characters

Once again all just my opinion on most attractive guys on One Piece, here we go:

Top 14 most handsome OP men:

14. Monkey D. Luffy

oh yeah Luffy is absolutely a very pretty guy

13. Izo

I love men who could kick my ass in heels and lipstick

12. Cavendish

His beauty wasn’t supposed to be seen as a joke, he really is gorgeous

11. Wiper

He’s really really good looking and badass and tattooed. I’m sold and his new hairstyle is sick as fuck

10. X Drake

Love my 8 feet tall Dinosaur, the anime sometimes fucks him up but I think this particular shot is even sweeter than some manga panels

9. Donquixote Doflamingo

Everybody is secretly attracted to the garbage bird and it’s always gonna stay that way

8. Young!Monkey D. Garp

The amount of money I’d pay to touch his arms and face and abs…and other things

7. Dracule Mihawk

Zoro’s adoptive Daddy is handsome and he knows it, allso huge bonus that he’s pretty much one of the very very very few OP men who know how to dress well the others being Sabo, Kuzan and Sakazuki

6. Donquixote Rocinante

He’s even more handsome than his brother and if anyone is hesitant to acknowledge his beauty because of his hidious Make-up than please take a look at Cora-san here

Holy fucking shit *drools*

5. Shanks

He’d probably be higher up in this list if he shaved his legs, anyways he’s really gorgeous

4. Portgas D. Ace

No doubt Ace is a handsome fella

3. Sanji

My Nr 1 favorite character and such a handsome dude, I feel like people forget how attractive Sanji actually is because he always makes a fool out of himself and is also always the butt of the joke but honestly he’s called Mr Prince and Pretty Boy for reasons

2. Coby

Saw my man after his training and I already was like, holy hell he got pretty…and now after the timeskip…jesus christ you did a good job toei. Coby is sooo fine while he still rocks his pink hair, the flower bandana and the stupid glasses.

1. Sabo

And here is the Nr 1 most attractive OP man, sorry guys if you expected someone else but Sabo is very very handsome and even tho I know for a fact that Oda sexed him up and made him attractive for money and fanservice I am happy he did it.

Amorphous (Bichie) (1/?)

Summary : Modern AU. YouTuber!Richie. YouTuber!Bill. Richie Tozier fucked up big time. After a drunken night of having fun, his name is being slandered this way and that. However, and angel appears to sweep the Trashmouth off his feet. Bill Denbrough loves making speed arts of his favorite people on YouTube, and just so happens to be a huge fan of one Richie Tozier.

Pairings : Eventual Bichie

Warnings : NSFW themes, lots of cussing, Eddie freaking the fuck out, and a stutterless Bill

AN : This fic is meant for those over the age of 18. If you are under the age, please turn back now. I will not be keeping a tag list for this one, because I’m not going to tag anyone underaged. This will be full of smut, so be fair warned. Keep in mind that all of the characters are 21+ at this time. The characters in no way have any relation to the child actors that have portrayed them. IT does not belong to me, however if it had I would’ve changed a lot of things in the book.

Chapter 1

Word Count : 1169

Richie grinned against the skin of his girlfriend’s neck, hand trailing lower and lower down her clothed body. The air smelled heavily of booze, weed, and sweat. Loud bumps of vibrations shook the wall that Olivia was pressed against, and Richie wouldn’t be able to hear her drunken moans if she wasn’t doing it straight in his ear.

Addy, I trust you and you set the trends, who is the author to watch? Who is up and coming, who caught your eye lately? Who's the next Dolce?

That is some huge responsability you’ve put on my feeble shoulders, nonnie!! (But I’m blushing so thanks)

I’m always very vocal about my favorite authors but some of them are already established names in the fandom like @cherrystreet @greenfeelings and @mizzwilde.

If we’re talking up and coming underdog material, like proper I don’t even know how come people aren’t talking about these authors daily, I’ll put on top of the list @indiaalphawhiskey, @dinosaursmate and @taggiecb as they write words that cut through me like nothing else and are still severly underated (HOW??? WHY?? @GOD DO SOMETHING). They manage to touch me, move me and inspire me and you should read all their fics.

With that said, I know a lot of authors, and most of them are underrated I’m afraid so I’m going to take that opportunity to talk about them too, as they have at least one masterpiece under their belt that really left a mark on me and are worth every kudo and comment!!

I’m talking about(in no particular order): @lululawrence, @a-writerwrites, @phd-mama, @myownsparknow, @realitybetterthanfiction, @dimpled-halo, @haloeverlasting, @becomeawendybird, @londonfoginacup, @allwaswell16, @loveisalaserquest17, @fullonlarrie, @laynefaire, @juliusschmidt, @mediawhorefics, @briannamarguerite, @hrrytomlinson, @jimmytfallon.

I hope I didn’t forget anyone omg, but knowing myself I probably have :/ The best is for you to check my fic rec tag and my little larries unite tag for underrated fics. (I must say you had me full on cackling at your “you set the trends” statment but thank you anyway)

Part 1: Animation Beyond Pixar

Part 2: 10 More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar
Part 3: Another 10 Animated Movies Beyond Pixar
Part 4: Some More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar

A few of my friends have recently gotten into animation! But there’s so much dreck in the animated world that it’s difficult to know what to watch. With that in mind I put together a quick guide of some of my favorite non-Pixar animated movies. Maybe you’ll like it too?

Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime, 1997)

Let’s start with the obvious: Studio Ghibli. Since the late 70s director Hayao Miyazaki has created gorgeous animated movies with an incredible eye for action and detail. Miyazaki’s movies often depict the struggle to remain pacifist in war-torn worlds. Such is the case in Princess Mononoke, where a young prince of a dying people is caught up in a war between the engines of progress and the forces of nature.

While Ghibli is considered an arthouse studio in the USA in Japan it’s known as a broad-appeal blockbuster maker. Princess Mononoke (Mononoke means “monster” btw) was Ghibli’s first mainstream overseas hit, and actually sparked a very brief infatuation with anime cinema in the US (which was destroyed within months by X: The Movie).

Ernest & Celestine (Ernest et Celestine, 2012)

France has an amazing animation industry that, unfortunately, is largely ignored in the US. A handful of French animated films, primarily the films of Sylvain Chomet, have a small following stateside, but far more go ignored. It’s really to our detriment, as France makes some gorgeous movies.

Ernest & Celestine is the story of an unlikely friendship blossoming between two very different people. The animation style is especially striking, every frame of Ernest & Celestine looks like a beautiful watercolor out of a children’s book.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed, 1926)

Aww yiss, let’s get cultured all up in this bitch! The Adventures of Prince Achmed is the oldest surviving (possibly first!) feature-length animated movie, and it’s good! A retelling of several of the stories in 1001 Arabian Nights, the most striking thing about APA is its distinctive silhouette style, done entirely by hand.

The movie was written, directed, and painstakingly animated over 3 years by Lotte Reineger (a straight-up pioneer-innovator in animation), and features a gorgeous accompanying score by Wolfgang Zeller (remember, this was the silent movie era). You will be stunned when you see the level of expression and communication Reineger gets out of paper cut-outs.

Mary and Max (2009)

Ernest & Celestine’s gloomier, more depressing cousin, Mary and Max also depicts the blossoming of an unlikely friendship, this time between an awkward little Australian girl and an obese autistic American man. The humor is black, the movie gets bleak, and the ending will make you smile through your tears.

It’s also entirely done with claymation, contrasting lumpy, exaggerated human figures with intricate sets. Almost like a Tim Burton movie, only much better.

Akira (1988)

Akira! Everybody knows about Akira, it was one of the three anime movies that were advertised by those sketchy mail-order businesses in the 90s. What you might not know about Akira is that it’s better known for its visual innovations than its story (which, with the exception of a few iconic scenes, is actually very slow and dull). Come for the gorgeous visuals, some of which we now take for granted, and feel free to pause when it gets boring.

Oh! The story: A delinquent biker gang becomes entangled in a dangerous military operation, and in the process brings about the end of the world. It’s the last days of a dystopian future, and it doesn’t end well for anyone.

Persepolis (2007)

Have you ever seen a photo from pre-revolution Iran? You might mistake it for America, with all the giant lapels and floppy hairstyles. While Persepolis is technically the autobiography of Iranian/French cartoonist Marjane Satrapi, it also tells the story of the Iranian cultural revolution. See it through the eyes of someone who grew up with it, and slowly saw her rights eroded as her government devolved into a theocracy.

Equal parts funny, sad, wince-inducing, and inspiring (the way every honest biopic should be).

Porco Rosso (Kurenai no buta, 1992)

You didn’t think you were getting away with just one Ghibli movie, did you? Porco Rosso is one of the lesser-known but no less stunning Studio Ghibli films, having the bad luck to premiere in the early 90s (after the big anime boom of the 80s, but before its resurgence in the late 90s).

Smaller in scope than your average Ghibli film, the world doesn’t hang in the balance in Porco Rosso. Instead you get to see an often forgotten place and time, the Adriatic Sea between WWI and WWII, a region that briefly became notorious for its abundance of aircraft and veteran pilots.

The titular Porco is one of the more notorious WWI flying aces now working on the adrianic, cursed with a pig-form as penance for his role in the war. While Porco is content to live out the rest of his life in obscurity the world around him conspires to shove him into the limelight.

A frequent joke during the film’s release was that Porco Rosso was an excuse for director Miyazaki to display a lot of his intricate aircraft designs, one of his passions. You can really tell, PR has some of the most gorgeous aircraft ever shown on screen.

Watership Down (1978)

Something was in the water in Britain in the late-70s. Something that made for incredibly dark, unsettling cartoons. The animated Lord of the Rings is just the tip of the iceberg, let’s talk about one of the scariest animated movies of all time: Watership Down.

Based on the acclaimed book of the same name, Watership Down is about bunnies… and their terrifying, brutal lives as they desperately seek refuge from human encroachment. Do not approach WD lightly, it gave an entire generation of children nightmares.

Stripped of its artifice Watership Down is a fascinating look at what happens when a primitive culture encounters an more advanced one, with equal parts heart-rending realism and fascinating mysticism.

Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993)

Almost as if they were making up for the 70s, the 90s featured a lot of charming and hilarious British cartoons. At the top of the pile, the inimitable Wallace and Gromit.

This is the one with the criminal penguin. You know the one. It’s fantastic.

Claymation as a medium has always had a hard time breaking into the mainstream. It was the original bearer of the uncanny valley burden, and unfortunately the simplicity and flexibility of design required to animate a figure (at this time, at least) made for very exaggerated, often ugly character designs. What makes Wallace & Gromit so special is creator Nick Park’s ability to hurdle both of these problems and really define his creations as a cute, charming cartoon.

Treat yo’self.

The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa, 2013)

If it seems like there’s a lot of anime on this list, it’s because Japan is one of countries where animation has been a respected medium for decades. Collectively they’ve got a huge body of work to draw from.

My personal favorite movie by Makoto Shinkai, the Garden of Words is about two people finding comfort and refuge from the wider world with each other, in an ephemeral and gorgeously-rendered setting. Shinkai writes stories about people falling in love and then realizing they can never be together, so prepare your body (for tears).

There’s a healthy dose of melodrama to this movie, but it doesn’t take away from the gorgeous visuals and the tone this movie sets. You can almost smell the ozone.

anonymous asked:

top 10 favorite fics?

This has been sitting in my inbox for a hot minute, honestly, because this is a super difficult question. I’m sorry it’s taken so long to answer! I want to preface by saying that I’ve read a ridiculous amount of fic in this fandom, and I’ve loved so much of it, and there are plenty of fics that I would die for that aren’t on this list. also i’m constantly reading and finding new universes to love, so this list could change any day? but here goes, my top 10 favorite (at this very moment in time) hl fics:

10. Relief Next To Me by dolce_piccante (334k)

What can I say? Is this fic overhyped? Maybe. Is it ridiculously long? Sure. Is it nothing but pure fluff? Yeah, you’re right. Would I die for it? Absolutely. I find myself revisiting this universe over and over again, and that’s saying something for a fic this massive. I just love how fun the relationship is, so whenever I’m feeling blue and need to get away from anything angst, this is one of my go-to’s.

9. let it shine under the morning star, orphaned (22k)

This is one of the first fics I ever read twice (I’m not normally a fan of re-reading fics) and I still go back to it from time to time just to experience the amazing aesthetic this fic has. It’s set during the Belle Époque, one of my favorite historical eras in terms of the arts, and the imagery is just beautiful. Read this while listening to some Chopin or John Field; it’s totally lovely.

8. the impossible now by stylinsoncity (54k)

Oh, god. This fic is incredible. There are a lot of really great original plots out there, and there are a lot of good time-travel/universe swapping fics, but this one takes the cake. The angst and the conflict resolve are super well done, and this is one of those fics you just can’t stop reading even for a second. I remember staying up one night reading it all in one go, yelling at Kelli the entire time. I think I’m due to revisit this one myself!

7. You Come Beating Like Moth’s Wings by supernope (81k)

The Barcelona Fic™!!!! I read this pretty early on when I became a 1d fan and it’s stuck with me as one of the most fun and adventurous fics I’ve ever read. The entire idea of a whirlwind romance while traveling abroad is an automatic set-up for fun times (as well as a little angst) but the best part of this fic is the slow burn. If you haven’t read this one, you absolutely must.

6. Black with Autumn Rain by whimsicule (93k)

If you’re looking for originality, look no further tbh. Listen, I’m a huge horror/sci-fi/fantasy fanatic, and I’m obsessed with anything different, so obviously there’s some bias going on here, and I recognize that this fic may not be for everyone. However, it feels like this fic was written for me. This is one of those fics where the romance takes a bit of a back seat to the actual story, which is something I love, and the actual story is what keeps you hooked. On top of that, fucking phenomenal writing. Read this one when it’s raining, preferably with the lights off.

5. 210 Days by cherrystreet (16k)

Listen. Are you listening? Okay, good. This fic changed me. This was the first of Shelly’s fics that I ever read, and I couldn’t stop screaming about it for weeks. Shelly is, quite honestly, the queen of hurt and comfort. Did I cry while reading this? Of course. But I finished this fic feeling so content, hopeful even, for Harry and Louis, and for how strong their love is in this universe. I got hooked on the writing right away, but even more than that, I got introduced to Shelly’s incredible ability to write about the pain of the real world while highlighting all of the good things that happen as well. This fic is a huge gift; it brought me comfort during a really shitty time in my life, it made some of my friendships stronger, and it introduced me to one of my favorite people in this fandom. Anyway, the writing in this is totally poetic, so if you want to know what it feels like to be adored, read Harry’s letters to Louis in this fic and get back to me.

4. Have You Coming Back Again by whoknows (31k)

It’s crazy to me that this fic is number 4 on this list instead of number 1, because the first time I read this fic I ranted and raved about it for a ridiculously long time. The first time I tried to read this, I couldn’t get into it. Fortunately, I tried again after a few weeks and when I did get into it, I got into it. I adore the characterization in this fic. The writing is, of course, totally on point. “You’re just obsessed with fluff,” you might say. Well you’d be right, but that doesn’t change the fact that whoknows has a gift for writing a fun, playful romance.

3. Here in the Afterglow by fondleeds (89k)

Ah, here’s where I really get emotional. When lysha posted this, I had already read her first work, which I adored, so I was really excited for a well-done historical au (I’m a hoe for historical au if that isn’t obvious, btw). But nothing could have prepared me for this fic. Not only are all of the historical details totally spot on (the MUSIC IN THIS IS.. INCREDIBLE!!!), but the story itself handles the coming out “trope” with such incredible finesse and care, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There is so much LGBT+ history in this fic, and it’s treated with the respect it deserves, which is something I really haven’t ever seen in any other fic before. When I finished it, I just had this immense feeling of thankfulness for the pioneers of LGBT+ rights, which is not something you’d necessarily expect to get from a fic?? Anyways I’m rambling but I really can’t emphasize enough how wonderful and important to me this fic is. You absolutely must listen to 70′s rock while reading this, btw.

2. It Comes and Goes in Waves/It Always Does by roaroftheninth (51k)

Am I a fake for making this my #2 even though I only first read it a few days ago? Maybe. This fic, just recently completed, is another absolutely original fic that stands out from anything I’ve ever read. The thing about this fic is, the romance (like BWAR) is secondary. This is more a story about a soldier, who has to deal with the loss and pain he was left with after WWII, and his struggle to accept his own self-worth and happiness. Everything about the story itself is just flawless: the writing, the characterization, the plot, the imagery, the dialogue, the vocabulary itself - all of it is fantastic. I know the MCD tag scares people (it definitely scares me too!) but I promise it’s survivable, and the ending is happy! Given, if you like cookie-cutter fic with a predictable plot with all smiles and no tears, this fic isn’t for you. Then again, real life probably isn’t for you. If you want to read something real, something powerful and thought-provoking, read this. (Also, bonus points to this fic for SLOWWWW burn, an amazing tension-release, and a beautiful ending).

1. Tug-of-War by cherrystreet (63k)

You knew I couldn’t make a fic rec without having cherrystreet on here twice, right? The reality is, all of Shelly’s fics should be in my top 10, because I love them all, but there is no universe that compares to TOW. As always, her writing and characterization are on point. It’s obvious how much Shelly cares for this universe in the details of this fic, and it’s obvious how much she loves Louis and Harry in the way she carefully handles their fragile hearts in this particularly angst-driven story. Like the previous recommendation, this fic perfectly captures the pain of the real world, while still emphasizing that things can get better, that if you don’t give up, or even if you have already given up, you can change things for yourself just by believing that you deserve it. This fic is, naturally, littered with hardships and addresses real human sorrow, but it’s also full of love and hope, and lots of laughter. I’ve read it multiple times, and every time I’m left smiling and a little more in love with hl than I was before, so if you’re waiting to read this one or you haven’t done it yet because you’re afraid of the angst, I promise it won’t hurt you.

Sorry this was so long and so extra, but Top 10 is truly an outrageously difficult question! And like… it could change by tomorrow, for all I know! Anyways I hope you enjoy these if you haven’t read them yet, and even if you have read them maybe try giving some of them another go! All of these universes are too wonderful not to enjoy multiple times.

I'm super excited for FlameCon this weekend! But I'm also kinda nervous. This'll be my first solo con, all my queer comic book heroes will be there, and I'm sorta kinda maybe hoping to get a couple autographs and maybe a sketch or two. Do you have any etiquette tips for commissioning artists and asking for autographs?

That is an excellent question, and the fact that you’re asking it in the first place means that you’re already on the right track!

My main rule for autographs and sketches at conventions is this: If you ask for something, offer something. Most creators don’t charge for autographs, and many will do quick sketches for free, but I try to stay mindful of the fact that this is work for them. For instance, if I’m asking someone to sign books, I usually try to buy something from their table for them to sign along with whatever I’ve brought (if I’ve brought something).

A few related points of etiquette:

Don’t haggle. Know your budget, be upfront about it, and if a creator quotes you a higher price, politely let them know it’s out of your range, and move on. By the same token, if someone isn’t sketching at the show, or if their sketch list is full, you can always ask if they’re taking commissions for later dates, but don’t push.

Be mindful of volume. There are people who show up at creator tables with crates full of books for them to sign. This is a huge dick move unless you have discussed it with them ahead of time: it’s super disrespectful of their time, and of everyone behind you in line. Bring one or two favorites instead.

Speaking of time… Most creators at cons are more than happy to talk to fans and discuss their work! But be mindful of lines building up behind you, and of the fact that the people you’re talking to are to some extent at the show to work. If you’re not buying anything, or if you’re having a long conversation, move to the edge of their table so that other folks can have access to whatever they’re selling.

Remember that standard social boundaries still apply. I know, obvious, right? But this one can be easy to forget, especially when you’re meeting someone whose work has been really personally important to you. Don’t ambush people when they’re not at their tables. Never ambush people in the bathroom (this happens). Ask before hugging, touching, or photographing; and respect the answer.

Ultimately, these all basically boil down to one overarching principle: Remember that comics creators are fellow humans, treat them with the consideration that goes with that, and you’ll do fine.

Facts about Nathan Seymour/Fire Emblem (Tiger&Bunny)

- They aren’t a man!
- They are a nonbinary trans woman, so refer to them as they/them or she/her (I’ll be referring to them as they/them here fyi)
- Part of their backstory is revealed in The Rising and tells a lot of their journey to discovering who they are
- When they were younger, they went to an all boys school and was considered strange for being attracted to other boys there
- One of the most emotional parts of the backstory (in my opinion) was the scene where they try on some rings but they don’t fit and I feel like that’s where they have a huge revelation
- Like I feel like that is the part where they see that they aren’t like other people because they like things that aren’t meant to fit them/their body
- Obviously, that never stopped them
- They have been shown to be very motherly towards the other heroes, especially Blue Rose and Dragon Kid
- According to their King of Works profile, they have an intense greed for cosmetics
- It also says they like all food. Literally, they listed their favorite food as “everything” and their least favorite as “nothing”.
- They have a younger sister! I wish we could see some sisterly bonding between them!
- Their motto is, “Failure is part of the fee paid to live a fulfilling life.”
- Their future goals are to increase company sales to make more donations to disadvantaged children around the world and to build a happy family with a lover.

Warnings : Some cussing, cute shit? Nothing really bad in this one

Should he message him first? What the hell would he even say? Should he say hi? Should he tell him he loves his music? Should he just wait for Richie to message him?

What do you think about the Molly Hooper fans/Sher/lolly fans that got pissy about you including her in your female characters to avoid list?

Well, I sort of stopped following the comments in that particular post as I knew people would have lots of different opinions about it and decided I didn’t want to engage to ones that vastly differed from mine.

I’m a huge Sherlock Holmes nerd, and I adore many aspects of BBC’s adaption.  However, one of my least favorite aspects was its often misogynistic and occasionally nonsensical treatment of women.

Many (if not all) of its female characters had the opportunity to be charismatic and memorable, but were instead put on an impossible pedestal, turned into sex objects, or relegated to empty-headed waifs enslaved to their own emotions.  Sometimes all three.

None were given the depth or complexity of their male counterparts, or even the opportunity to simply be human.

This is a recurring problem in Moffat’s writing, and popular media in general.  Anyone is welcome to disagree with me, but it’s a problem that I think needs to be addressed.

I’ll also add that just because I criticize a character or piece of media does not mean I dislike that character or piece of media;  just that there are aspects that could be improved upon to make for better media in the future.

2,000 followers? I honestly can’t believe so many of you seem to enjoy my blog enough to stick around!! What I did in the past on these occasions was list some of my favorite people/blogs! So let’s keep the tradition up shall we? 😉♥️

Since I have so many to mention, I don’t think I’ll be able to write as much about these individuals as I used to, but here goes!

@electricblueals-dustygarage My words don’t hold enough magic to convey the gifts this woman has thrown my way.. My Adalheidis.. My sister of darkness and the gatekeeper of my fire. The love for a person has never been larger than my tenderness towards this human. As much as I despised social platforms in the past, I will forever be grateful to this one for sending a soulmate my way..♥️

@beberequin Closest thing to divinity. A friend that has shown herself to be a destructively strong healing force in some dark hours. Has been able to give me part of my youth back because of our shared desire in some very breathtaking kings in metal! And is a feast for ones eyes..♥️ Her beauty is that of poets speech.

@a-walk-on-the-moon A light I’m convinced we are SO not worthy of.. As stated before this lady could be described as ‘the flowergirl of kindness’. Her strength is inspiring, for she truly is the one that gives mountains more, than she receives. A passionate lady who wears her heart on her sleeve.. They sure don’t make ‘em like this anymore!

@sodascherry My first connection after my isolation into madness.. A special place in my heart is reserved for the lady that I miss most on this platform. The way she’s able to throw her heart at her hero’s that have long left, is what inspires artists. My hazy love is always sent her way.

@m—ermaid The human embodiment of the rays our beloved mother sun, casts. Her imagine is such a treasured sight, and always manages to gift me a smile.. An IT-girl if you will.. Precious beyond belief.

@windofmayhem Agy is what fills the gothic’s dream when they succumb to their final rest. We have ourselves a very own bass playin’ empress here boys..

@december–rose The endurance of a lioness, yet her vision is as delicately charming as that of cracked porcelain. Royalty.

@tuckerjackson My favorite fella on here, for all the tenderness he holds has always pulled me near! My fear of men has never made it’s way between how much I adore this human.

@jackiefoxxx VIXEN.. All those lady-inspired metal tunes that describe the wives of satan, were inspired by this fox!

@one-bad-apple Another old connection that took away my loneliness, by strengthening my love for a certain band that gave me some of my light back! The laughs she gave me back in the day were healing.

@thehouseofzonk My most beloved blog of ALL time. Been lucky enough to share some sweet words with the lovely owner! One of the rare blogs I actually check to see if they’ve posted any more gold!

@bambipunks L e g e n d a r y blog right here guys! Also has a real fucking genuine owner as well.

@twin-salopian Passionate fella’ that will melt your heart! A more ‘recent’ addition to my favorites, and I couldn’t be more happy to have found this one!

@salemsbat This blog and owner are both rad as h e l l. Enchantress of bats that posts absolute gold.

@kvltboi I feel he must be made up of kindness he gifts to those that as much as say nothing more than ‘hello’ to him. Love all the classic metal vibes he decorates my dash with!  A treasure.

@sleazoidexpress The day they stop posting is the day I say farewell to tumblr. Because most of my blog is made up by their rad content and I wouldn’t want it any other way! ;)

Hello everyone!

I just found out that I had up to 500+ followers today, and I felt it was a good time to do an thank you post. I’ve liked EXO since Overdose, and I’ve been a dedicated fan since than. At first, I wasn’t around EXO-Ls so I didn’t know much of what was happening. But I was a huge Luhan stan, I still am of course. I had decided to make this blog to keep up with their activities and involve myself with the fandom.

Thank you all so much for liking my blog! This isn’t a follow-forever (I’m too lazy for that) it’s more like a list of my favorite blogs. These people have inspired either with their amazing blogs or amazing edits perhaps both. I apologize in advance if I mess this up. It’s almost in alphabetical order…

AD Podcasts, Christopher Moore, and Turn-of-the-Century Impressionism

So this week I’m re-reading one of my all-time favorite books. It’s called Sacré Bleu: A Comedy d’Art, by Christopher Moore.

Moore is a writer of comedic speculative fiction, combining fantastical elements from a variety of cultural sources with the sometimes over-ordinary events of daily life. He’s one of my all-time favorite writers; particular gems include Sacré Bleu; Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal; Fluke (or, I Know Why The Winged Whale Sings); Fool; and A Dirty Job (and its recent sequel Secondhand Souls). I’m not sure if Moore has a Tumblr presence, but he’s on Twitter @TheAuthorGuy.

Sacré Bleu is a story that mostly centers on Lucien, a (fictional) baker in the Parisian district of Montmartre, where congregated the great artists of the Impressionist era during the late 1800s. Lucien was taught by Renoir, coddled by Pissarro, sneered at by Degas, condescended to by Monet, and mourned the death of Vincent Van Gogh right alongside Dr. Gachet and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

It’s also about a timeless muse whose skin exudes magical memory-altering blue pigment harvested by a Neanderthal. But that’s not really why I’m writing.

What’s struck me on this second read is how plausible it is to me that all of these great artists knew each other, drank together, suffered together, and orbited each other throughout their lives. Because of course they did! They were all living in France, their paintings hung in the same galleries, and they drank in the same bars! But more importantly, they were the only other people crazy enough to believe with all their beings that their art would sustain them. (ok yes, some of them came from money, so they needn’t have worried–– just stick with me here, the point is coming.)

(collage courtesy of Ryan Estrada)

Back in the spring, I was invited to a group forming online which now includes most of the people who make your favorite fiction podcasts: Wolf 359. Wooden Overcoats. Archive 81. Kakos Industries. The Cleansed. We’re Alive. Our Fair City. Small Town Horror. The NoSleep Podcast. The Truth. The Black Tapes & Tanis. Within the Wires. ars Paradoxica and the Bright Sessions, of course. And that’s just some of the more well-known examples. I could go on for a huge wall of text listing all the shows who contribute. (To all of my podfriends I did not list, I love you all as well, and please feel free to tag yourselves!)

Not only do we discuss the ins and outs of writing, production, recording, gear, publishing, marketing, and social media – did you think #AudioDramaSunday happened by accident? – but we also have an incredibly lively Random/Off-Topic section where we talk about video games, food, TV shows, events, school, work, illness, life stresses, and general shenanigans. We’ve become a huge group of friends. I’ve honestly never seen a more supportive, welcoming, and friendly group of people, especially one so large and whose member list is constantly expanding. I feel so, so lucky and grateful to be included in this wonderful weird audio drama podcast family.

We support each other because we are the only other people crazy enough to believe, with all of our beings, that our art will sustain us.

Favorite Supercat stories with secret/hidden relationship/engagement/marriage

Oooo Nice one.

Here are some favs:

Learning Curves by @writerstealth. This one sort of meets the criteria in that there’s a whole lot of sex that is definitely meant to be a secret. Relationship ish. Twisted but very hot. And I’m incapable of doing a rec list without one really smutty option :P I also really love the sequel.

A frequent visitor by @fictorium / @damelola because it’s basically sacrilege  for me to have a rec list an not include Lola. This one is also more sex in secret but I’m counting it.

Afternoon Delight by @jbthegift I just really love this fic ok guys? I’ll rec it as many times as I want to :P This is a Alex finds out about the secret relationship fic. I have a huge thing for people finding out about Cat and Kara by walking in on them.

Secretly by @lost-your-memory. This is the only one I know of that has a secret marriage. Also a side of “Alex finds out” which is a favorite theme of mine.

Everyone is Secretly Dating and It’s a mess by @supercatandfriends. Exactly what it says on the tin. Also hilarious.

Secret Relationship AUs by traveler_of_the_heart. A bunch of one shots. All fantastic.

Girlfriend WANT Headcannons

Everyone has wondered at least at some point-

Wtf do those ghouls see in girls?????

Weeeeeell, may as well answer that here today~

Ken Kaneki: Black or white, Ken has the same taste he has when he has black hair: Intellectual girls. But not just any. Black haired Ken prefers nice intellects. Him being pretty traditional, it’s best you expect some cleaning on your plate. White haired ken, on the other side, wants an intellect but at the same time: not just ANY nice girl with a pretty face. She has to listen, but she can’t be a constant damsel in distress. She has to have a mind of her own. None the less, both Kens will gladly stick up for you. Just treat them right and you’ll get far. The ages they look for… Black Ken would look for college or older girls. White Ken would look past age, tbh.

Nishio Nishiki: Not many would think he’d be back in the game after (SPOILER)Kimi died,(SPOILER ENDED) but…. He actually is. If anything, a girlfriend is what a few think he needs. Well, if anything, an airhead isn’t acceptable. But you don’t have to be a genius. Average is good. (even though he doesn’t like to admit it.) The girl can’t take just anyone’s sh!t. The age group would probably be around his age or something.

Tsukiyama Shuu: (shhhhhithinkhesapartofanteikuhehelpedtrytogetkenbacksoheneedstobehere) Ah yes, our favorite king sexy trash. Tsukiyama likes elegant girls, to say the least. Also, it’ll be handy if you’re a masochist (fordemhotnightsifyacatchmydrift-//shot) because of his secret sadistic side. If he falls in love with you and you’re a girl, you’re prolly a lolita. (Not REALLY young but just like at the minimum 16. If you’re that young he’s gonna wanna keep it on the down low because of his studies and he doesn’t wanna look bad.) If you’re COMPLETELY innocent, Shuu won’t look your way romantically. However, if you’re a tough one who won’t dare take anyone’s sh!t, Shuu’s a valid choice. He’ll stick up for you, and maybe even turn yandere if he sees you with another guy. Believe it or not, Shuu is the most emotional of all the guys, so treat him right! All in all, elegance or not, just be at least considerate and intellectual enough to talk to him.

Ayato Kirishima: First things first, out of all the guys, Ayato is like…. prolly the coldest. He is JUST LIKE Touka-chan. He seems like he wouldn’t date but if he likes you enough… well… First, the type girl he’d like would have to be tough. Timid girls are okay, too. (He likes the fact most of them have a hidden side where they can just beat the living crap out of anyone and anything and to him: that’s freaking cool.) Be wary, depending on your personality, it defines how much he’s going to insult you. Ayato’s insults are a way of showing his love, kinda like Nishiki. The more timid you are, the more he’s gonna wanna beat you up because he wants you to be braver. He’ll protect you, yeah, but don’t expect it to be a thing where there’s constant PDA. And he’s probably passionate and much more physical than emotional. He’s crack jokes but when he sees you’re really upset, he’ll be like a dog and silently take care of the issue by hugging and petting up and stuff. So, in short, Ayato is best suited for either timid or tough cookies. Intelligence isn’t a matter, and he’s not that traditional, so you don’t have to worry about getting your hands dirty! (Unless it gets serious and you move in with him or something.)

Naki: Let’s get something straight for a second: this guy is almost as bad as Draco. (warning: Katsumi-chan has only seen the first Harry Potter movie, as she was banned from reading or watching anything Harry Potter related due to her grandmother’s strict views on our religion.) He’s very flamboyant so get ready to be kinda a trophy girlfriend. “______-chan is WAY better than any girl you could ever meet~” Sometimes, you’re gonna have to sock some sense into him. but, be gentle, because he’s actually almost more emotional than Shuu. He’s not the most mature lover, so any girl that’s carefree and fun loving would suit him. He HATES it when he makes you cry and will spoil you to DEATH. He’s childish, so get ready for stupid jokes~

Renji Yomo: (inearlyforgothimhelp) Stoic and reserved, a lot of people think he doesn’t want a girlfriend when in fact, he doesn’t mind. He understands the basic concept that you can’t control who you fall in love with. So, it’s likely he’ll go for a timid or a kuudere type gal. Maybe even tsundere. He’s kinda traditional, but no need to worry. If you don’t get a gift for him or something on an event, don’t even sweat it, he won’t freak out or anything. However, he’s probably the most passionate on this list. He cares a lot of and is basically a huge sweet heart who’ll do anything for you. If you’re in a tight spot, legit though, all you have to do is call him up and he’ll take care of it. That’s the kind of guy he is. However, he’s no pushover and will quickly dump you if you even seem like you’re taking him for granted.

Uta: FINALLY, our favorite trashy mask maker~ Most people think Uta is gay, but he’s actually bisexual. He’s two faced, just like Shuu and kinda like Ken, so it’s helpful if you’re masochistic. (likeisaidfordemhotsteamynightshuehuehue-//shot) Uta is DEFINITELY the least traditional guy on this list. (Like I said, on this list. Least traditional in ALL guys would be straight up Suzuya.) He’s one of those guys who will do whatever you feel like doing and is pretty go with the flow. Just don’t make him mad… You might end up getting hurt </3. He seems to not care most the time and may even not pay attention sometimes, but if you tell him how you feel, he’ll actually start caring for you like an actual boyfriend would. He’s not really the jealous type, but if he sees you trying to tell a dude to back off, he’s gonna just take you gently by the hand, flip the guy off andsendsomeclownsfordatb!tchash-

So, all in all, do your homework before dating a ghoul guy~ 0u0

Updated Fic Rec

 Hello all!

I know it feels like forever since I’ve addressed anything fic related or really even interacted with writers and readers. Things have felt aloof and strange with the sudden disappearance of 1dff.com. It’s been very hard to find fics and connect with readers and writers alike since tumblr is such a huge platform. Many writers have moved on to bigger and better things and many fics have gotten lost in cyberspace but many great works still exist. Last year I put together a fic rec for fic author’s appreciation week but  with 1dff.com down I know a lot of people may have lost track of their favorite stories and a lot of authors are looking for exposure on their new platforms. Today I decided to give you all an updated list of wonderful fics that span across different  fic platforms. As before, this is a completely Harry centric-fic rec so if you’re a Harry gal, enjoy!

How I feel about this character: He might. be. my most favorite character of all times, which, if anything, says more about my terrible choices in life, than about him, per se.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Heiwajima Shizuo and nothing and no one else if I’m going to be completely honest.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: His dynamic with his little sisters. But hold that thought! His (fucked up) best friendship with Shinra, his potential friendship with both, Celty and Namie. His potential as a tutor/mentor of Kida and Saki and Mikado ((ALL I WANT is an AU in which Izaya is their senpai or mentor and he’s like. A DECENT, if not only slightly twisted, mentor; It could be an au of anything, it doesnt have to be necessarily a normal high school au.))

But tbh, I think if Simon and Izaya sit down to have some tea and a talk, they would get along. No Judgements involved between the ex-Assassin and the Informant Broker.

The Van Gang is not in here because tbh the van gang already does gets along with Izaya, or, better saying, the Van Gang doesnt seem to hold any animosity towards Izaya solely for who he is, so you could say they do get along, actually. Its especially evident with how lightly Kadota refers to Izaya.
