a huge list of favorite people

anonymous asked:

top 10 favorite fics?

This has been sitting in my inbox for a hot minute, honestly, because this is a super difficult question. I’m sorry it’s taken so long to answer! I want to preface by saying that I’ve read a ridiculous amount of fic in this fandom, and I’ve loved so much of it, and there are plenty of fics that I would die for that aren’t on this list. also i’m constantly reading and finding new universes to love, so this list could change any day? but here goes, my top 10 favorite (at this very moment in time) hl fics:

10. Relief Next To Me by dolce_piccante (334k)

What can I say? Is this fic overhyped? Maybe. Is it ridiculously long? Sure. Is it nothing but pure fluff? Yeah, you’re right. Would I die for it? Absolutely. I find myself revisiting this universe over and over again, and that’s saying something for a fic this massive. I just love how fun the relationship is, so whenever I’m feeling blue and need to get away from anything angst, this is one of my go-to’s.

9. let it shine under the morning star, orphaned (22k)

This is one of the first fics I ever read twice (I’m not normally a fan of re-reading fics) and I still go back to it from time to time just to experience the amazing aesthetic this fic has. It’s set during the Belle Époque, one of my favorite historical eras in terms of the arts, and the imagery is just beautiful. Read this while listening to some Chopin or John Field; it’s totally lovely.

8. the impossible now by stylinsoncity (54k)

Oh, god. This fic is incredible. There are a lot of really great original plots out there, and there are a lot of good time-travel/universe swapping fics, but this one takes the cake. The angst and the conflict resolve are super well done, and this is one of those fics you just can’t stop reading even for a second. I remember staying up one night reading it all in one go, yelling at Kelli the entire time. I think I’m due to revisit this one myself!

7. You Come Beating Like Moth’s Wings by supernope (81k)

The Barcelona Fic™!!!! I read this pretty early on when I became a 1d fan and it’s stuck with me as one of the most fun and adventurous fics I’ve ever read. The entire idea of a whirlwind romance while traveling abroad is an automatic set-up for fun times (as well as a little angst) but the best part of this fic is the slow burn. If you haven’t read this one, you absolutely must.

6. Black with Autumn Rain by whimsicule (93k)

If you’re looking for originality, look no further tbh. Listen, I’m a huge horror/sci-fi/fantasy fanatic, and I’m obsessed with anything different, so obviously there’s some bias going on here, and I recognize that this fic may not be for everyone. However, it feels like this fic was written for me. This is one of those fics where the romance takes a bit of a back seat to the actual story, which is something I love, and the actual story is what keeps you hooked. On top of that, fucking phenomenal writing. Read this one when it’s raining, preferably with the lights off.

5. 210 Days by cherrystreet (16k)

Listen. Are you listening? Okay, good. This fic changed me. This was the first of Shelly’s fics that I ever read, and I couldn’t stop screaming about it for weeks. Shelly is, quite honestly, the queen of hurt and comfort. Did I cry while reading this? Of course. But I finished this fic feeling so content, hopeful even, for Harry and Louis, and for how strong their love is in this universe. I got hooked on the writing right away, but even more than that, I got introduced to Shelly’s incredible ability to write about the pain of the real world while highlighting all of the good things that happen as well. This fic is a huge gift; it brought me comfort during a really shitty time in my life, it made some of my friendships stronger, and it introduced me to one of my favorite people in this fandom. Anyway, the writing in this is totally poetic, so if you want to know what it feels like to be adored, read Harry’s letters to Louis in this fic and get back to me.

4. Have You Coming Back Again by whoknows (31k)

It’s crazy to me that this fic is number 4 on this list instead of number 1, because the first time I read this fic I ranted and raved about it for a ridiculously long time. The first time I tried to read this, I couldn’t get into it. Fortunately, I tried again after a few weeks and when I did get into it, I got into it. I adore the characterization in this fic. The writing is, of course, totally on point. “You’re just obsessed with fluff,” you might say. Well you’d be right, but that doesn’t change the fact that whoknows has a gift for writing a fun, playful romance.

3. Here in the Afterglow by fondleeds (89k)

Ah, here’s where I really get emotional. When lysha posted this, I had already read her first work, which I adored, so I was really excited for a well-done historical au (I’m a hoe for historical au if that isn’t obvious, btw). But nothing could have prepared me for this fic. Not only are all of the historical details totally spot on (the MUSIC IN THIS IS.. INCREDIBLE!!!), but the story itself handles the coming out “trope” with such incredible finesse and care, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There is so much LGBT+ history in this fic, and it’s treated with the respect it deserves, which is something I really haven’t ever seen in any other fic before. When I finished it, I just had this immense feeling of thankfulness for the pioneers of LGBT+ rights, which is not something you’d necessarily expect to get from a fic?? Anyways I’m rambling but I really can’t emphasize enough how wonderful and important to me this fic is. You absolutely must listen to 70′s rock while reading this, btw.

2. It Comes and Goes in Waves/It Always Does by roaroftheninth (51k)

Am I a fake for making this my #2 even though I only first read it a few days ago? Maybe. This fic, just recently completed, is another absolutely original fic that stands out from anything I’ve ever read. The thing about this fic is, the romance (like BWAR) is secondary. This is more a story about a soldier, who has to deal with the loss and pain he was left with after WWII, and his struggle to accept his own self-worth and happiness. Everything about the story itself is just flawless: the writing, the characterization, the plot, the imagery, the dialogue, the vocabulary itself - all of it is fantastic. I know the MCD tag scares people (it definitely scares me too!) but I promise it’s survivable, and the ending is happy! Given, if you like cookie-cutter fic with a predictable plot with all smiles and no tears, this fic isn’t for you. Then again, real life probably isn’t for you. If you want to read something real, something powerful and thought-provoking, read this. (Also, bonus points to this fic for SLOWWWW burn, an amazing tension-release, and a beautiful ending).

1. Tug-of-War by cherrystreet (63k)

You knew I couldn’t make a fic rec without having cherrystreet on here twice, right? The reality is, all of Shelly’s fics should be in my top 10, because I love them all, but there is no universe that compares to TOW. As always, her writing and characterization are on point. It’s obvious how much Shelly cares for this universe in the details of this fic, and it’s obvious how much she loves Louis and Harry in the way she carefully handles their fragile hearts in this particularly angst-driven story. Like the previous recommendation, this fic perfectly captures the pain of the real world, while still emphasizing that things can get better, that if you don’t give up, or even if you have already given up, you can change things for yourself just by believing that you deserve it. This fic is, naturally, littered with hardships and addresses real human sorrow, but it’s also full of love and hope, and lots of laughter. I’ve read it multiple times, and every time I’m left smiling and a little more in love with hl than I was before, so if you’re waiting to read this one or you haven’t done it yet because you’re afraid of the angst, I promise it won’t hurt you.

Sorry this was so long and so extra, but Top 10 is truly an outrageously difficult question! And like… it could change by tomorrow, for all I know! Anyways I hope you enjoy these if you haven’t read them yet, and even if you have read them maybe try giving some of them another go! All of these universes are too wonderful not to enjoy multiple times.

anonymous asked:

Ok this is HELLA old Imma apologize right away for a taking so long and b that I’m doing a top 14 list, rather than top 10 list because they’re much more male characters

AD Podcasts, Christopher Moore, and Turn-of-the-Century Impressionism

So this week I’m re-reading one of my all-time favorite books. It’s called Sacré Bleu: A Comedy d’Art, by Christopher Moore.

Moore is a writer of comedic speculative fiction, combining fantastical elements from a variety of cultural sources with the sometimes over-ordinary events of daily life. He’s one of my all-time favorite writers; particular gems include Sacré Bleu; Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal; Fluke (or, I Know Why The Winged Whale Sings); Fool; and A Dirty Job (and its recent sequel Secondhand Souls). I’m not sure if Moore has a Tumblr presence, but he’s on Twitter @TheAuthorGuy.

Sacré Bleu is a story that mostly centers on Lucien, a (fictional) baker in the Parisian district of Montmartre, where congregated the great artists of the Impressionist era during the late 1800s. Lucien was taught by Renoir, coddled by Pissarro, sneered at by Degas, condescended to by Monet, and mourned the death of Vincent Van Gogh right alongside Dr. Gachet and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.

It’s also about a timeless muse whose skin exudes magical memory-altering blue pigment harvested by a Neanderthal. But that’s not really why I’m writing.

What’s struck me on this second read is how plausible it is to me that all of these great artists knew each other, drank together, suffered together, and orbited each other throughout their lives. Because of course they did! They were all living in France, their paintings hung in the same galleries, and they drank in the same bars! But more importantly, they were the only other people crazy enough to believe with all their beings that their art would sustain them. (ok yes, some of them came from money, so they needn’t have worried–– just stick with me here, the point is coming.)

Back in the spring, I was invited to a group forming online which now includes most of the people who make your favorite fiction podcasts: Wolf 359. Wooden Overcoats. Archive 81. Kakos Industries. The Cleansed. We’re Alive. Our Fair City. Small Town Horror. The NoSleep Podcast. The Truth. The Black Tapes & Tanis. Within the Wires. ars Paradoxica and the Bright Sessions, of course. And that’s just some of the more well-known examples. I could go on for a huge wall of text listing all the shows who contribute. (To all of my podfriends I did not list, I love you all as well, and please feel free to tag yourselves!)

Not only do we discuss the ins and outs of writing, production, recording, gear, publishing, marketing, and social media – did you think #AudioDramaSunday happened by accident? – but we also have an incredibly lively Random/Off-Topic section where we talk about video games, food, TV shows, events, school, work, illness, life stresses, and general shenanigans. We’ve become a huge group of friends. I’ve honestly never seen a more supportive, welcoming, and friendly group of people, especially one so large and whose member list is constantly expanding. I feel so, so lucky and grateful to be included in this wonderful weird audio drama podcast family.

We support each other because we are the only other people crazy enough to believe, with all of our beings, that our art will sustain us.

anonymous asked:

Who are your favorite graphic/edit/gif makers in the spn fandom? Who inspires you?

Ohh gosh that’s tough, cause there are so many talented ppl on this fandom and truth be told like every one of them inspires me :’))
And the list of my faves is huge and I’m certain I’ll forget a LOT (for which I apologize in advance) but the ones off the top of my head would be:

GRAPHIC MAKERS

GIF MAKERS

EDIT MAKERS (aka not listed above or more than one category)

Stop the discourse!

Just… Stop. I hope you all realise how ludicrous all of this is. As a fandom, we’re supposed to be a group of people of like mind talking about our favorite tv show. Instead, the Voltron Fandom has become a shitstorm of infighting and attacking. Ships are not a reason to be mean or rude to someone , and they’re certainly not a reason to create a huge block list and call innocent people pedophiles.

Just… Stop. It’s literally that fucking simple. Its not worth it to hurt other people over *fictional characters*. They’re not real people and, although they are important to us and although many of us identify with them, in the end they are /not real./

But the people we’re hurting over the internet? They’re real. I don’t give a shit whether you ship Shaladin or Klance or whatever; you’re worthy of respect and a lot of people in this fandom cant seem to get that through their thick skulls.

As a person who ships Klance, I don’t necessarily agree with Shaladin, but I can respect people who do because its the decent fucking human thing to do.

To everyone who’s been attacking Shaladin shippers- mind your own damn business and let them live in peace. I’m ashamed to be a part of this fandom because of your discourses, and its as simple as just… Stopping. Its in your power to stop being assholes.

To all the Shaladin shippers; I’m apologize on behalf of the rest of the fandom. We may not agree in terms of ships, but you do not deserve all the hate you’re getting.

We need to learn how to respectfully disagree. Not every disagreement means war, if it did the world would be in shambles by now.

Fidget Toys And Where To Find Them Part 3!

Part 1
Part 2

Fidget toys are fun little distraction toys to play with when you need to avoid self harming, occupy your brain for a bit to stop negative or obsessive thoughts, or just do something monotonous to relax. These fidgets are a little more expensive than past ones, and are highly recommended among the stim community!

1. Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty!
It comes in insanely pretty colors. I love the Super Illusions because they are the perfect texture for me, and very glittery.

2. Plasticine Transparent Slime
While I haven’t tried it myself, it comes VERY hiighly recommended!

3. Lava Lamps!
These are my FAVORITE visual stims, I adore them. And this listing has a bunch of color options.

4.Glitter Lamps
Similar to lava lamps, but the lava is replaced with glitter! I love these too. I had trouble finding a listing with many colors, so this one CHANGES colors!

5. Floam
I’m not a huge fan of Floam. It’s basically putty/slime, but the pieces of foam give is a crunchy texture that a lot of people like, but I don’t.

Part 1: Animation Beyond Pixar

Part 2: 10 More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar
Part 3: Another 10 Animated Movies Beyond Pixar
Part 4: Some More Animated Movies Beyond Pixar

A few of my friends have recently gotten into animation! But there’s so much dreck in the animated world that it’s difficult to know what to watch. With that in mind I put together a quick guide of some of my favorite non-Pixar animated movies. Maybe you’ll like it too?

Princess Mononoke (Mononoke Hime, 1997)

Let’s start with the obvious: Studio Ghibli. Since the late 70s director Hayao Miyazaki has created gorgeous animated movies with an incredible eye for action and detail. Miyazaki’s movies often depict the struggle to remain pacifist in war-torn worlds. Such is the case in Princess Mononoke, where a young prince of a dying people is caught up in a war between the engines of progress and the forces of nature.

While Ghibli is considered an arthouse studio in the USA in Japan it’s known as a broad-appeal blockbuster maker. Princess Mononoke (Mononoke means “monster” btw) was Ghibli’s first mainstream overseas hit, and actually sparked a very brief infatuation with anime cinema in the US (which was destroyed within months by X: The Movie).

Ernest & Celestine (Ernest et Celestine, 2012)

France has an amazing animation industry that, unfortunately, is largely ignored in the US. A handful of French animated films, primarily the films of Sylvain Chomet, have a small following stateside, but far more go ignored. It’s really to our detriment, as France makes some gorgeous movies.

Ernest & Celestine is the story of an unlikely friendship blossoming between two very different people. The animation style is especially striking, every frame of Ernest & Celestine looks like a beautiful watercolor out of a children’s book.

The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Die Abenteuer des Prinzen Achmed, 1926)

Aww yiss, let’s get cultured all up in this bitch! The Adventures of Prince Achmed is the oldest surviving (possibly first!) feature-length animated movie, and it’s good! A retelling of several of the stories in 1001 Arabian Nights, the most striking thing about APA is its distinctive silhouette style, done entirely by hand.

The movie was written, directed, and painstakingly animated over 3 years by Lotte Reineger (a straight-up pioneer-innovator in animation), and features a gorgeous accompanying score by Wolfgang Zeller (remember, this was the silent movie era). You will be stunned when you see the level of expression and communication Reineger gets out of paper cut-outs.

Mary and Max (2009)

Ernest & Celestine’s gloomier, more depressing cousin, Mary and Max also depicts the blossoming of an unlikely friendship, this time between an awkward little Australian girl and an obese autistic American man. The humor is black, the movie gets bleak, and the ending will make you smile through your tears.

It’s also entirely done with claymation, contrasting lumpy, exaggerated human figures with intricate sets. Almost like a Tim Burton movie, only much better.

Akira (1988)

Akira! Everybody knows about Akira, it was one of the three anime movies that were advertised by those sketchy mail-order businesses in the 90s. What you might not know about Akira is that it’s better known for its visual innovations than its story (which, with the exception of a few iconic scenes, is actually very slow and dull). Come for the gorgeous visuals, some of which we now take for granted, and feel free to pause when it gets boring.

Oh! The story: A delinquent biker gang becomes entangled in a dangerous military operation, and in the process brings about the end of the world. It’s the last days of a dystopian future, and it doesn’t end well for anyone.

Persepolis (2007)

Have you ever seen a photo from pre-revolution Iran? You might mistake it for America, with all the giant lapels and floppy hairstyles. While Persepolis is technically the autobiography of Iranian/French cartoonist Marjane Satrapi, it also tells the story of the Iranian cultural revolution. See it through the eyes of someone who grew up with it, and slowly saw her rights eroded as her government devolved into a theocracy.

Equal parts funny, sad, wince-inducing, and inspiring (the way every honest biopic should be).

Porco Rosso (Kurenai no buta, 1992)

You didn’t think you were getting away with just one Ghibli movie, did you? Porco Rosso is one of the lesser-known but no less stunning Studio Ghibli films, having the bad luck to premiere in the early 90s (after the big anime boom of the 80s, but before its resurgence in the late 90s).

Smaller in scope than your average Ghibli film, the world doesn’t hang in the balance in Porco Rosso. Instead you get to see an often forgotten place and time, the Adriatic Sea between WWI and WWII, a region that briefly became notorious for its abundance of aircraft and veteran pilots.

The titular Porco is one of the more notorious WWI flying aces now working on the adrianic, cursed with a pig-form as penance for his role in the war. While Porco is content to live out the rest of his life in obscurity the world around him conspires to shove him into the limelight.

A frequent joke during the film’s release was that Porco Rosso was an excuse for director Miyazaki to display a lot of his intricate aircraft designs, one of his passions. You can really tell, PR has some of the most gorgeous aircraft ever shown on screen.

Watership Down (1978)

Something was in the water in Britain in the late-70s. Something that made for incredibly dark, unsettling cartoons. The animated Lord of the Rings is just the tip of the iceberg, let’s talk about one of the scariest animated movies of all time: Watership Down.

Based on the acclaimed book of the same name, Watership Down is about bunnies… and their terrifying, brutal lives as they desperately seek refuge from human encroachment. Do not approach WD lightly, it gave an entire generation of children nightmares.

Stripped of its artifice Watership Down is a fascinating look at what happens when a primitive culture encounters an more advanced one, with equal parts heart-rending realism and fascinating mysticism.

Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993)

Almost as if they were making up for the 70s, the 90s featured a lot of charming and hilarious British cartoons. At the top of the pile, the inimitable Wallace and Gromit.

This is the one with the criminal penguin. You know the one. It’s fantastic.

Claymation as a medium has always had a hard time breaking into the mainstream. It was the original bearer of the uncanny valley burden, and unfortunately the simplicity and flexibility of design required to animate a figure (at this time, at least) made for very exaggerated, often ugly character designs. What makes Wallace & Gromit so special is creator Nick Park’s ability to hurdle both of these problems and really define his creations as a cute, charming cartoon.

Treat yo’self.

The Garden of Words (Kotonoha no Niwa, 2013)

If it seems like there’s a lot of anime on this list, it’s because Japan is one of countries where animation has been a respected medium for decades. Collectively they’ve got a huge body of work to draw from.

My personal favorite movie by Makoto Shinkai, the Garden of Words is about two people finding comfort and refuge from the wider world with each other, in an ephemeral and gorgeously-rendered setting. Shinkai writes stories about people falling in love and then realizing they can never be together, so prepare your body (for tears).

There’s a healthy dose of melodrama to this movie, but it doesn’t take away from the gorgeous visuals and the tone this movie sets. You can almost smell the ozone.

Girlfriend WANT Headcannons

Everyone has wondered at least at some point-

Wtf do those ghouls see in girls?????

Weeeeeell, may as well answer that here today~

Ken Kaneki: Black or white, Ken has the same taste he has when he has black hair: Intellectual girls. But not just any. Black haired Ken prefers nice intellects. Him being pretty traditional, it’s best you expect some cleaning on your plate. White haired ken, on the other side, wants an intellect but at the same time: not just ANY nice girl with a pretty face. She has to listen, but she can’t be a constant damsel in distress. She has to have a mind of her own. None the less, both Kens will gladly stick up for you. Just treat them right and you’ll get far. The ages they look for… Black Ken would look for college or older girls. White Ken would look past age, tbh.

Nishio Nishiki: Not many would think he’d be back in the game after (SPOILER)Kimi died,(SPOILER ENDED) but…. He actually is. If anything, a girlfriend is what a few think he needs. Well, if anything, an airhead isn’t acceptable. But you don’t have to be a genius. Average is good. (even though he doesn’t like to admit it.) The girl can’t take just anyone’s sh!t. The age group would probably be around his age or something.

Tsukiyama Shuu: (shhhhhithinkhesapartofanteikuhehelpedtrytogetkenbacksoheneedstobehere) Ah yes, our favorite king sexy trash. Tsukiyama likes elegant girls, to say the least. Also, it’ll be handy if you’re a masochist (fordemhotnightsifyacatchmydrift-//shot) because of his secret sadistic side. If he falls in love with you and you’re a girl, you’re prolly a lolita. (Not REALLY young but just like at the minimum 16. If you’re that young he’s gonna wanna keep it on the down low because of his studies and he doesn’t wanna look bad.) If you’re COMPLETELY innocent, Shuu won’t look your way romantically. However, if you’re a tough one who won’t dare take anyone’s sh!t, Shuu’s a valid choice. He’ll stick up for you, and maybe even turn yandere if he sees you with another guy. Believe it or not, Shuu is the most emotional of all the guys, so treat him right! All in all, elegance or not, just be at least considerate and intellectual enough to talk to him.

Ayato Kirishima: First things first, out of all the guys, Ayato is like…. prolly the coldest. He is JUST LIKE Touka-chan. He seems like he wouldn’t date but if he likes you enough… well… First, the type girl he’d like would have to be tough. Timid girls are okay, too. (He likes the fact most of them have a hidden side where they can just beat the living crap out of anyone and anything and to him: that’s freaking cool.) Be wary, depending on your personality, it defines how much he’s going to insult you. Ayato’s insults are a way of showing his love, kinda like Nishiki. The more timid you are, the more he’s gonna wanna beat you up because he wants you to be braver. He’ll protect you, yeah, but don’t expect it to be a thing where there’s constant PDA. And he’s probably passionate and much more physical than emotional. He’s crack jokes but when he sees you’re really upset, he’ll be like a dog and silently take care of the issue by hugging and petting up and stuff. So, in short, Ayato is best suited for either timid or tough cookies. Intelligence isn’t a matter, and he’s not that traditional, so you don’t have to worry about getting your hands dirty! (Unless it gets serious and you move in with him or something.)

Naki: Let’s get something straight for a second: this guy is almost as bad as Draco. (warning: Katsumi-chan has only seen the first Harry Potter movie, as she was banned from reading or watching anything Harry Potter related due to her grandmother’s strict views on our religion.) He’s very flamboyant so get ready to be kinda a trophy girlfriend. “______-chan is WAY better than any girl you could ever meet~” Sometimes, you’re gonna have to sock some sense into him. but, be gentle, because he’s actually almost more emotional than Shuu. He’s not the most mature lover, so any girl that’s carefree and fun loving would suit him. He HATES it when he makes you cry and will spoil you to DEATH. He’s childish, so get ready for stupid jokes~

Renji Yomo: (inearlyforgothimhelp) Stoic and reserved, a lot of people think he doesn’t want a girlfriend when in fact, he doesn’t mind. He understands the basic concept that you can’t control who you fall in love with. So, it’s likely he’ll go for a timid or a kuudere type gal. Maybe even tsundere. He’s kinda traditional, but no need to worry. If you don’t get a gift for him or something on an event, don’t even sweat it, he won’t freak out or anything. However, he’s probably the most passionate on this list. He cares a lot of and is basically a huge sweet heart who’ll do anything for you. If you’re in a tight spot, legit though, all you have to do is call him up and he’ll take care of it. That’s the kind of guy he is. However, he’s no pushover and will quickly dump you if you even seem like you’re taking him for granted.

Uta: FINALLY, our favorite trashy mask maker~ Most people think Uta is gay, but he’s actually bisexual. He’s two faced, just like Shuu and kinda like Ken, so it’s helpful if you’re masochistic. (likeisaidfordemhotsteamynightshuehuehue-//shot) Uta is DEFINITELY the least traditional guy on this list. (Like I said, on this list. Least traditional in ALL guys would be straight up Suzuya.) He’s one of those guys who will do whatever you feel like doing and is pretty go with the flow. Just don’t make him mad… You might end up getting hurt </3. He seems to not care most the time and may even not pay attention sometimes, but if you tell him how you feel, he’ll actually start caring for you like an actual boyfriend would. He’s not really the jealous type, but if he sees you trying to tell a dude to back off, he’s gonna just take you gently by the hand, flip the guy off andsendsomeclownsfordatb!tchash-

So, all in all, do your homework before dating a ghoul guy~ 0u0

Any etsy/storeenvy/etc. shops owned by witches that sell magic-related items, like amulets, crystals, books, etc? :3

That is a huge list anon, and one I cannot fully answer for you. I don’t know that many, for one thing, and I just don’t have the energy or time to go hunting around for that many witchy stores.

You can always go on those sites and search for specific keywords such as “witchcraft,” “magick,” “crystals,” “spells,” etc., and see what comes up.

Hopefully people who do own those sorts of shops will be happy to comment or reblog on this post to make themselves known? Alternatively, if you do have any favorite witchy online stores, please feel free to add them as well!

Well, it’s true I did say that all the characters are shit. Maybe I could’ve found a better way to say that, like listing all the ways the characters in 13RW weren’t good characters, but other than that, I just stated facts. And I didn’t even mention the fact that 13RW doesn’t need another season, not only because it’s based on a book with no sequel, but also because it loses the impact it has made. One thing it has done is get people talking, but people being nicer to others is up for debate. For example, FANS of 13RW automatically attack people who speak out against the show, how hypocritical is that?

I wasn’t trying to bring down 13RW, I was making a comparison. What I was trying to say is that Sense8 sends a much more positive messages and it’s inclusive and diverse. While 13RW tried to send out a positive and important message, it went about it in all the wrong ways. And like I said, there is no margin for error when talking about mental health.

I think I’ve made my point and said everything I need to about how I feel on 13RW.

Hey dude I've been following your blog for a while and you got some really cool animations. I myself am trying to learn how to animate but I don't know where to start. So my question to you is where do I start to learn how to animate? Like are there any books I should read or tutorials you would recommend. Thanks for your time man I really apreciate it.

First off, thanks for the compliment and thanks for following me!

I don’t really think there’s any one way, but…

As far as books go, I’d say Preston Blair’s Advanced Animation is probably the best place to start. The name’s pretty misleading- It atcually starts form the very basics. It’s where I started when I started getting more serious about animation, and I’d say it has probably been my biggest help. Learning good construction skills has helped me tremendously with my animation and art. You may have a lot of awesome ideas in your mind, but that won’t help much if you can’t translate them to paper (or tablet, or whatever you may use).  Learn about construction, how lines and features wrap around forms, clear and distinct poses, perspective, etc. Don’t trace the examples, but make your own copies of them step by step and compare them to the images given. Your copies don’t have to be perfect- what’s most important is that you’re learning how and why something looks the way it does.

When I first started copying I made the mistake of trying to make my drawings look exactly the same as in the book, causing frequent frustation. I’d spend forever on one drawing, not really absorbing and understanding what the goal was. Now, that doesn’t mean you should be careless about it… You do want them to look close. Just make sure to go step by step, checking your progress along the way. You’ll get better the farther you go.

You might have taken a look at those pages and thought “Well, that’s interesting and all, but I don’t exactly plan on drawing these old ‘40s Disney-style characters any time soon…”

That’s totally understandable and perfect because the next step is to use the tools you learned from copying those drawings and apply them to your own drawings. After all, what’s the point in copying and learning all those principles if you aren’t going to use 'em? I’d also recommend some life drawing every once in a while. Draw people and objects and learn what things actually do look like and not just what you think they look like. Once again, apply these principles to your own drawings.

Like I said before, though, there’s no one way. That’s just the way I happened to learn. Some people can pull off amazing drawings and animation without a bit of construction!

As for learning actual animation… Watch and study the best! Take influence from both classic and modern animation. I love watching old Warner Brothers cartoons- especially those by Bob Clampett, Tex Avery, and Chuck Jones- and seeing how skillfully they move their characters. I also love anime, too. There are TONS of talented Japanese animators with unique styles and techniques. I have so many favorites I can’t even list them all, but SakugaBooru (occasional 18+ content there so beware) has a huge selection of awesome animation gifs and webms from just about everybody. Whenever you get a chance, browse around the site. Watch and analyze different animators’ works and study the underlying principles. Learn to recognize what’s great and what isn’t. Go frame by frame and see how things move, then try it out for yourself. If possible, check out rough animation too. Preston Blair also goes a little bit into animation (walk cycles, squash and stretch, etc.) later on in his book. I’ve also heard a lot of people recommend The Animator’s Survival Kit, but I haven’t really taken a look at it.

So, yeah, this is a big post coming from somebody who hasn’t had any type of formal training. Please don’t take my advice as the end-all be-all (…is that right?) Everything I’ve learned about animation so far has come from the internet, and I’m still just scratching the surface. There are still tons of things that I need learn and get better at (walk cycles still scare the heck out of me), but I’m going for it. Just look around and explore, both here on Tumblr and the rest of the internet. There’s quite a bit of treasure out there.

Some random tips and stuff:

-When animating, start with the basic forms first. Animating something that has a lot of details can be tricky and I find it easy to lose myself. Starting with the simple parts helps a bunch.

-This is probably just me, but I seem to have some sort of issue when it comes to erasing parts of a drawing. I tend to just draw over it, and over time that gets messy. Soo…. er, don’t be afraid to erase.

-If you’re making a project that’s a bit longer or more complicated than the usual gif or something, have a plan. Srsly. Storyboards help. I’ve learned that the hard way.

Miscellaneous recommendations:

-John K Stuff. Say what you will about him, but he gives solid drawing advice. Tons of information here that has also been a huge help in my learning. Also has some great animation lessons. I’d recommend it for those 16+, though.

-Animation Resources. They have the whole Preston Blair book uploaded.

I hope that wasn’t too long. If you or anybody else has any more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

motor city pride was a huge disappointing waste of money and a corporate scam that really had nothing to do with the LGBT+ community and was 80% corporate booths that were there to support on the surface but have really done nothing to help or support the community or even speak about the fact that it’s still legal to fire people for being lgbt+ here

and one of my favorite parts was, outside food was NOWHERE on the list of banned items. only outside beverages. zip anywhere about outside food. and yet, they threw out people’s food at the door with not warning. in a city like Detroit. throwing out food without telling people they couldn’t bring it in. to sell us super overpriced carnival-style food inside. real classy. I couldn’t even eat any of the food there bc of my food allergies which is why I had brought my own

it didn’t even look a pride festival inside. putting up flags is the bare minimum effort. And there were only sparse rainbow flags and a few trans pride flags. And it was like 80% corporate sponsorship booths that had really nothing to do w the LGBT+ community and had no business being there. Barely any LGBT+ artists/sole proprietorships and small businesses. I was hoping to support a bunch of small business and queer artists but it was like….. big multi million and billion dollar corporations that really don’t care about us until they can slap a rainbow flag on something to take our money

it just looked a like we and a bunch of other LGBT+ people accidentally got mixed up and wound up at a big corporate festival instead of a pride festival. Like to be completely honest if I had walked in there with no context I wouldn’t really had even been able to tell it was a pride festival.

//shrugs// well now I know not to go next year. Ferndale Pride was a thousand times better and actually had a sense of the LGBT+ community and the vendors were actually small business, sole proprietorships/independent artists who were actually part of the LGBT+ community

justgot1 replied to your post “Huh. So apparently there is Drama in the YOI fandom, about safe lists…”

Eh, it’s a post going around from some tumblr that posted a whole list of folks who ship otayuri. Which the purity wank section of the fandom sees as impure or something. I’ve seen it sail by like three times now, I wish people would stop reblogging it.

auntiesuze replied to your post “Huh. So apparently there is Drama in the YOI fandom, about safe lists…”

Heh. I saw that post. What the heck is wrong with Otayuri? I think they’re kinda adorable myself! Guess you can add me to the bad people list. ;)

So I admit… I’m not a huge fan of Otayuri. I’ve read some of the fic, I’ve enjoyed it, there’s some very good writers who write Otayuri out there. There’s some Otayuri fic that is definitely among my favorites.

But honestly? I’m really good with them being just very good friends. Yuri needs friends. Otabek probably needs friends. I think they need each other as friends more than they need each other as lovers.

But that’s neither here nor there, because at the end of the day, I am a fanfic slut, I will read anything and everything. And as a fanfic slut, I don’t appreciate being told what I can and can’t read, what is safe and what is not safe, what does not deserve to be written and what does need to be read by everyone.

Otayuri’s not my go-to pairing. But I’m not going to tell anyone else that it’s a terrible pairing. Nor am I going to write it off entirely just because that’s not what I’d like to see happen in canon. (Canon is canon. Fanon is fanon. Never the twain shall meet.) You find me a good Otayuri fic, I’ll read it. You write an Otayuri fic I don’t find interesting… I’ll leave it and you alone. My time is way too short for either of us to bother with me not liking what was essentially my prerogative to read  or not read.

(No one is forced to read fanfic. No one should be forced to read fanfic. But likewise, no one should be forced to write only One Approved Pairing. That’s not what fanfiction is about, kiddos.)

That said… I have the powerful urge to go read all the Otayuri I can get my hands on and start reccing and foisting love/kudos on it like mad. Where’s that list, anyway? I think a list like that could be a handy place to start.
