so my church used this picture for the bulletin this week and i got to see it early and i looked at my mum and
this is from bioshock infinite
where the main protagonist
as in the guy catching the girl
is called the false shepard
So, even if we accept the Catalyst as having told the truth - which I don’t - then Destroy is still the only option that doesn’t play right into the Reapers’ hands. I mean, really? The Protheans tried Control in their cycle, too. They had a splinter group just like Cerberus, and it failed, just like Cerberus. Who says Shepard is the exception? The Catalyst. Who is probably either a Reaper itself, or has their best interests in mind. To top it off, Synthesis describes what the Reapers want almost to the letter. They want to subsume organics into their fold. That’s what they do, in the name of “preservation”. The way the Catalyst words it, we know that it’s trying to convince us that Destroy is somehow cruel or evil. It’s twisting its words to change our impression of the facts. Because if what it’s saying is absolutely true, then it, too, is a synthetic. It would die as well. It’s self-preservation at its finest.
Of course, all of that assumes that the Catalyst isn’t a dirty liar, as well as assuming that the Indoctrination Theory is false - that Shepard is somehow above indoctrination, just like Shepard is somehow above falling to the same influence that would’ve had the Illusive Man and the Protheans failing at Control - so the arguments are on shaky ground anyway. Basically? I think a good chunk of the fanbase is indoctrinated at this point. And that kinda scares the shit out of me.

I’ve noticed how the relationship between the setting and player character in Bioshock and its sequel Bioshock Infinite are quite inverse.
Bioshock starts out as your story, you survived a plane crash and you went down to rapture and now you’re trying to find a safe way out of it. Rapture and its denizens are the obstacles in your story and every place and location is just another level.
In Bioshock Infinite you’re but a pawn in the story of Columbia, you’re there because the Luteces ordered you to get involved with the politics of Columbia. You are the False Shepard, the people of Columbia decide who you are and what your role in the story is. Every section and faction of the city decides for you who you are and what you do.
But as you explore Rapture and meets it people and learn about its past, the story becomes less and less about you and more and more about Rapture, and what its citizens do and what its history is. Rapture is no longer just an obstacle in your path, you’re a part of it, and in the end, the twist reveals that you were just a mere pawn in the politics of Rapture.
But in Bioshock Infinite, as you get to know Elizabeth and her family more and more, as you meet people from your past in the city, as you learn more about Comstock and the story behind Columbia, all the politics and intrigue become less and less about the city, and more about you, and who you are and what you’re doing. The twist reveals that the entire existence of Columbia revolves around you, and you’re the true center of the plot. It’s your story.
So doing Follow Forever’s seems to be the thing now.. SO I AM GOING TO JOIN THE MOTHEREFFING CLUB.
I have not been on Tumblr for very long, but I have made some amazing new friends and have met amazing new people. So everyone: Thank you for making my Tumblr-experience fascinating and enjoyable. I love the gaming community here. Seriously why the fuck are you all so far away.
Anyways, this is not the Oscars or something so I might as well get started.
These are the blogs I follow and seriously think you should as well. If you’re not, then you are truly missing out. Blogs that are bold are people I talk to/consider friends. Blogs that are in italics are blogs that I admire geheh.
