a double edge

Hey! I just wanted to say that I've been following your art in one form or another for, like, I guess it's years now? And it's honestly amazing to see how far you've come and what wonderful things you're doing so yeah!

thank you!! :D haha it’s kind of double edged because i’m proud of my progress but it’s also super embarrassing looking at my older stuff ;~;

Dude, I just realized, in Pokemon, they probably use Phantump sightings to local searches for missing people. But it’s like a double edge sword, because you know you’re looking for a body at that point.

Like imagine officer jenny having to report to the family “… I’m sorry… but there’s been a Phantump reported in the area.”

THIS IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTANDING THIS COMIC: this is part of a serious autobio series I started months back to document my gender transition. These took place months ago, during the early days, when I was very visibly trans. I’d only been on hormones for 5 months.

June 5th, 2016. Back then, I could only start to see myself if I was wearing makeup, it helped highlight my more feminine features. The end of the day was terrible. I still had a ways to go with laser so I’d see a patchy beard shadow too, which didn’t help any. Using makeup to see a more feminized version of myself felt like a double-edged sword. It just felt like I was getting my hopes up on a daily basis, but I needed to do it for my own peace of mind.

Critical Role Star Wars AU

Imagine, if you will:

  • Vex and Vax as a pair of Force-sensitive ex-smugglers from Naboo who have joined the Rebellion as fighter pilots.  Vex has a gold-marked astro droid called R6-B4, which she lovingly refers to as Trinket.
  • Keyleth as a young Jedi working with the Rebellion who was trained by her father and is trying to find the remnants of her people.  She has a green double-edged lightsaber.
  • Percy as a Force-sensitive engineer who was once possessed by an ancient Sith spirit.  As a result, he knows how to use the Force, but his abilities lean towards the Dark Side and he’s not proud of it.  As an engineer, he’s assigned to Vex and Vax’s squadron, but everyone knows he’s pretty much Vex’s personal mechanic.
  • Grog as a defected Stormtrooper (GG-1234) who was rescued by rebel medic Pike when he refused to gun down her grandfather.
  • Scanlan as a rebel spy posing as a simple trader/traveling musician.  He is the caretaker of the twins’ old smuggling ship, the Greyskull.  He currently mostly smuggles people and serenades them with cantina band hits.
  • The twins are part of Blue Squadron as Blue Eleven and Blue Twelve.  They both fly X-Wings.
  • Their father is a Naboo politician.
  • Keyleth uses her lightsaber as a baton most of the time to hide the fact that she’s a Jedi.
  • People often brush off Keyleth’s Force insights as Outer Rim quirkiness.
  • Percy is an excellent pilot and gunner, but he only flies when he’s really needed.  The most notable exception was when he led a mission to destroy the Briarwoods and rescue his sister from Imperial custody.  He usually flies a U-Wing.
  • Percy’s affections for Vex are very obvious to other pilots, due the fact that her ship is decked out with way more nifty improvements than any other.  It doesn’t help that he’s totally cool with Trinket, who eagerly helps him whenever he’s working on Vex’s ship.
  • Grog gets sent on escort missions with Scanlan a lot because he’s such a great bodyguard.
  • Vax comes to firmly believe in the Force and asks Keyleth to help him hone his sensitivity so that he can be a better pilot.
  • Vex wears a piece of blue kyber crystal around her neck.

Send me prompts, my dudes.  I’m so down for writing this.

The older and more informed I get the more I realise the ’!!!! Clothing and makeup have no gender!!!’ Rhetoric is such a double-edged sword.

On one hand it’s important to raise up gender nonconforming individuals and encourage people to explore how they present, especially for nonbinary individuals. Boys can wear dresses. Women can wear suits. Nonbinary people don’t have to look a Certain Way. No one has to be restricted in they way they dress and carry themselves.

But I also think tumblr seems to forget that clothing IS inherently gendered by society - it shouldn’t be, but it is, and the ‘don’t assume someone’s gender based on their clothes!’ mentality can be super dangerous and upsetting for binary trans people who are trying to pass for, you know, basic survival reasons. Literally the only way I pass if ever is when I wear super masculine clothing - because people see the way I’m dressed and assume male. It’s a saving grace. This is particularly important for trans women who face so much violence.

It’s a hard line to tread and I wish I’d see more discussion around it.

  • Tsunade: How did your mission go?
  • Kakashi: If I tell you now, does that mean I still have to do a mission report?
  • Tsunade: Don't ask stupid questions. Of course you still need to fill out a report.
  • Kakashi: In that case… you'll know in the next couple days.
  • Tsunade: *rolling her eyes*: That report better not be a one line summary either. None of this 'we laid down the law' crap either.
  • Kakashi: I thought that one was rather clever,
  • Tsunade: Your brand of clever is not appreciated on official reports. A full report, Kakashi, or I'll assign an ANBU guard to stand over your shoulder while you write it.
  • Kakashi: Seeing as I know most of the ANBU guards, I could just talk them into writing it for me.
  • Tsunade: I don't care, just so long as I have that report on my desk, with proper mission related detail, in two days.
  • Kakashi: *sighing*: Fine… But only because you didn't beam me in the head with a paperweight.
  • Tsunade: Sorry, I threw the last one at Genma earlier today.

KC, I hope you like these!

I’ve no experience with kisses, either (I know, what kind of twenty year old student am I?), so I’ve decided to reference several of my favorite romance movies.

The fact that no one takes crossover ships seriously is like a double edge sword. On one hand, no one cares. No one’s hating on that ship in the tags or even at all. No one feels threatened by the possibility your ship will canon and not theirs. It’s very unlikely you’ll get involved in a ship war at some point. Most people might not even know that ship exists.

But on the other hand, it feels that a lot of the work these fans put into their headcanons, fan art, and fics go unappreciated. They seem to a lot of thought into how these characters would interact. And I just want to say I appreciate all the creative and fun ideas fans have for these ships.

“I had already decided that the record was going to be called Bella Donna. With my previous boyfriend, who was an engineer on Tusk, I had gone to Chile for six weeks after finishing recording Tusk. I met his mother, who was just a marvelous lady; she became like Bella Donna to me. She’d been around when the [1973] military coup happened, and had been in love with a man who, when the government fell, was banished to France or face life in prison. She told me this story one night, and I just decided right there that my first solo record was going to be called Bella Donna.
I knew it meant ‘beautiful woman", but also that it’s a poisonous root. People use it for healing, but if you take too much, you can die. So I thought: “This is the perfect double-edged sword title for the record”. So that ideas was handed to me on a little silver tray with some toast and blackberry jam by the sweetest lady,“ she smiles, grateful still.

Warm hot chocolate and my cozy robe makes the cold temperatures outside not as daunting and this moment a bit more enjoyable.

It is unfortunate that the weather changes often bring sickness as well. My son is still struggling with this cold which means I get more time with him. Double edged sword.
