Beauty in cinema

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance-
This film perhaps best displays the essence and purpose of weaponised beauty. The lead character “kind hearted” Geum-ja trades in her simple undecorated look for one that warns the people around her of a feisty spirit in their presence. We are first introduced to Geum-ja’s new revamped look when she is fantasising about murdering a man who had wronged her. She trades in her silky straight hair for a short wavy do, clicks away in heels all day and dons bright red eyeshadow. Her makeup is not just a way of exhibiting her complexities as a person but also a constant reminder to keep the drive for vengeance alive in her.
