WHITEvoid: Fluidic- Sculpture in Motion (2013)

Fluidic – Sculpture in Motion is a new installation for Hyundai’s Advanced Design Center installed for Milan Design Week and created by Berlin based design studio WHITEvoid.

The central core of the FLUIDIC installation the point cloud is composed of 12.000 small translucent spheres. These attached to almost invisible strings. The positions of the spheres in space are arranged seemingly random within the cloud. The algorithm takes into account the position by scanning the arrangement and projecting using 8 high power laser projectors positioned around the installation. Generating bright and dim light points, this creates a highly organic and natural distribution of voxels (3D pixels). Emerging lines and shapes finally form graphical compositions without any sweet or blind spots. Keeping the same density and intensity the FLUIDIC graphics enables their viewers to observe and interact with it from every point of view. Furthermore the installation comes with multiple 3D camera tracking systems that are able to analyze the presence of the visitors, their positions and posture. All joints of the human body are recognized and tracked by the systems constantly. This enables precise three-dimensional interactions with the graphics and elements of the cloud.

November 2014 marks the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and Berlin is commemorating that momentous event with a stunning trail of 8000 large illuminated balloons set up along the former course of the wall. Entitled Lichtgrenze, or “Border of Light”, this beautiful and poignant installation was created by the WHITEvoid design studio and film studio Bauderfilm with the help of Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH.

The radiant white balloons stand at the same height as the infamous wall, which divided the city of Berlin for 25 years, from 1961 to 1989. The installation travels a 15 kilometer (~9.5 mile) stretch of the once 140 kilometer (87 mile) long wall, which completely encircled the western half of the city. To symbolize the wall’s collapse, the balloons will be illuminated on November 7th and released into the air on the evening of November 9th.

LICHTGRENZE by Christopher Bauder and Marc Bauder | via

The LICHTGRENZE is the light installation along the former path of the wall through the city center. It will trace the division of the city over a stretch of approximately 12 kilometers and with thousands of illuminated balloons as an impressive installation in Berlin from 8 to 9 November, 2014. At once emotional, poetic, and serious, this installation remembers the recent historical event, the fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989.

As the Wall fell 25 years ago in 1989, pictures of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin traveled around the world and became indelible symbols of the regained freedom. Autumn 2014 marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. On this day, Berlin will stand once more at the center of worldwide attention. The anniversary now gives occasion to remember this incisive historical event. A symbolic LICHTGRENZE made of illuminated balloons will be the poignant high point over the weekend of November 9, 2014. It will trace the former division of the city along this segment of the former course of the Wall in the city center. Hundreds of thousands of Berliners and city visitors will be able to reencounter strikingly along this stretch the intensity as well as the hugeness of the city division.

LivingSculpture :: WHITEvoid x Philips

-  Made using Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs), an exciting light technology, the sculpture consists of tons of small mirror-flat panels that seem to undulate and flow like the ocean overhead.  An online configurator creates and orders the individual arrangement (you can create just about any configuration you’d like) and then you can control the lights using an iPad light animation application. - via Design Milk

WHITEvoid interactive art and design

FLUIDIC is an interactive light art installation for Hyundai’s Advanced Design Center. Known as a “sculpture in motion,“ the piece invites visitors to test its responsive technology which simulates motion through 3D light projection. Made up of 12,000 translucent orbs suspended by nearly invisible strings, the installation has an out-of-this-world, futuristic quality about it.
