He did it.

It has since come to my attention that the story told in the post that inspired this post (formerly linked above, though I assume the original poster of that gifset has since deleted it) was a fallacy. I don’t know why the person who created that post made up the lie that Will Smith’s father abandoned him, but it fooled a lot of people, including me. Evidently, Will Smith’s father was very much present and very supportive in his life, and this scene was just a display of his acting skills. This diminishes neither the power of the scene, nor the extent of Will’s success, but I should have done some fact-checking research before making this post, and in the future, I will be sure to do so before making posts. I apologize for aiding in the spreading of this misinformation.

James Avery – the beloved dad on “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” – has died at age 65 .. TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the actor tell TMZ he died in an L.A. hospital last night. Avery had recently undergone surgery for an undisclosed illness and took a turn for the worse late yesterday.

And we’re told … his wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside but left for a short period of time to get something to eat.  When she came back, she learned he had just died.

Uncle Phil that we all loved from Fresh Prince has passed away last night, December 31st 2013 at age 65. He had Heart Surgery last night, and died because of severe complications from the surgery. You made tons of people smile, laugh, and you made the whole ‘Banks’ family happy. I’m 10000% sure that the cast you worked with, will never forget you, and neither will the world.

RIP Uncle Phil. Gone. But never forgotten.

Please everyone, take a moment to pray for him, his family, and most of all his wife. TMZ said that she went to leave for just a minute to go get food….she came back….and he was….gone…
