“Personal affectionis a luxury you can have only after all your enemies are eliminated. Until then, everyone you love is a hostage, sapping your courage and corrupting your judgment.” - Orson Scott Card, Empire
after rewatching Breaking Dawn parts 1 and 2, I gotta say that regardless of how bad the books were and the problematic aspects of Edward and Bella’s relationship, the movies themselves are really good?
They cast people authentically (Native Americans played Native Americans, Egyptians played Egyptians, etc.) and there was a lot of color cast-wise outside of the Cullen family. The actors did a marvelous job portraying their respective characters in a way that stayed true to the original writing, and I enjoyed seeing some more famous faces in the crowd of background characters (e.g. Rami Malek, Lee Pace, Anna Kendrick, etc.).The scenery was gorgeous throughout all five films. The cinematography and soundtrack are nothing to scoff at either.
All and all I felt that the directors and casting department did a wonderful job bringing these movies to life in a way that was…much less problematic than the original material. At least in the last two movies, anyway.
