Trump-Tower

Thanks to the Pentagon, the American taxpayer may be sending money right into Trump’s pocket

  • The Department of Defense is mulling whether to rent space in Trump Tower in New York, according to the New York Times, a move that could directly line Trump’s pocket with taxpayer cash.
  • A Defense Department spokesman said the the space is “necessary for the personnel and equipment” to protect the Trumps in their personal residence in the tower, the New York Times reported. First lady Melania Trump and Trump’s son Barron live there full time. Read more

I can’t believe I, of all people, the guy who’s written thousands of words on this very site about how Donald Trump is a liar/man-being-telepathically-controlled-by-a-malevolent-elder-god-from-the-great-cosmic-beyond is about to admit this, but … Donald Trump was right about wiretapping and we should cut him some slack.

No, Barack Obama didn’t send a swarm of nanobots into Trump’s brain to steal the daydream he drifts into during intelligence briefings wherein he imagines himself motorboating Ivanka’s tits, or whatever Trump thinks wiretapping is. Lost in the recent flurry of news about Trumpcare and his administration’s alleged coordination with Russian hackers to stifle Hillary Clinton’s momentum during the election was one news story that proved Donny sort of right. A building he was living in was wiretapped. Just not him, specifically.

Between 2011 and 2013, a non-Donald Trump resident of Trump Tower in Manhattan was under FBI surveillance. In a twist that does nothing to help Trump’s image as a possible accomplice to the subversion of American democracy by a hostile foreign nation, this resident was a notorious Russian criminal who was running an illegal gambling ring out of apartment 63A.

A bipartisan Senate Intel Committee duo just shut down Trump’s wiretapping claim

  • Trump’s explosive accusation that Obama ordered the wiretapping of Trump Tower during the campaign was dealt a death blow on Thursday by the Senate Intelligence Committee, which said there is no evidence whatsoever to back up that claim.
  • “Based on the information available to us, we see no indication that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016,” Sens. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) said in a statement.
  • Their statement comes a day after the House Intelligence Committee said there was no evidence that Trump Tower was wiretapped. Read more (3/16/17 2:18 PM)

Vancouver officials boycott Trump Tower grand opening - BBC News
Vancouver's mayor and entire city council skip the luxury hotel's opening.

Vancouver’s new Trump International Hotel and Tower has opened with pomp and protests.

US President Donald Trump’s two adult sons, Donald Jr and Eric, were at the luxury hotel’s grand opening.

About 200 protesters gathered outside the building to chant “dump Trump” before the noon ceremony.

The city’s mayor and city council boycotted the event because of the president’s controversial statements about immigrants.

Steel fences surrounded the downtown property early Tuesday ahead of the ceremony, but that didn’t stop the demonstrations.

The words “hate lives here” were scrawled in chalk outside the CA$360m ($274m/£220m) luxury hotel, and people stuck anti-Trump sticky notes to the outside of the building.

Another protest was scheduled to take place in downtown Vancouver for 1600 local time (midnight GMT).
