Note on the shot: Annette, Parker and I drove from Yellowstone through to Yosemite Valley, speeding across the Nevada desert. We then climbed into the Sierra Mountains and finally had to take Tioga Pass through the peaks and down into the Valley. Even though it was June, the pass just opened days before. It was a magnificent passage through the high country. Along the way, we came upon this partially frozen Alpine lake; I pulled the car aside and tried to do this wondrous scene the justice it deserved…
