Every last Sunday in March the “Hanezu Odori Dance” (はねず 踊り) is held at the Zuishin-in (隨心院) in Yamashina-Kyoto City. Zuishin-in Temple is dedicated to Ono no Komachi (小野 小町) Kyoto’s most beautiful lady of times past.
There are three performances at different times. First the Hanezu Odori performed by local lovely ladies clad in pink costume danced in honor of Ono no Komachi. Followed by a classical Japanese dance performance by Imayō (今様) accompanied on koto.
The final climax is a dragon dance. A mythical figure together with a lady impersonating “Ono no Komachi” enter the stage. They are followed by four dragons who try to overpower them. The mythical figure draws his sword and cuts the heads of the four dragons.
A fun experience the entrance fee is ¥1.000 included entrance to the plum garden and the inner temple grounds.
