Here on Tumblr I see so many people, rightfully so, demanding more representation of how our world is in Hollywood blockbusters, and superhero films especially. This weekend a film that did that organically and with love and realism at it’s core pushed that ideal onto the big screen, and not very many people went to see it. If you’re not being the change you want to see in the world, you’re failing everyone. Power Rangers is the film we have all been asking for, and it’s done what Marvel and DC outside of television are still struggling with. They put their all into diversity and character driven, beyond face level representation handled with care, but Hollywood will just see that it opens second to other films. It went beyond queer baiting and checking boxes. Don’t let love and hope lose again like it did in November. Bring a friend, bring your children, demand those around you to, in this world that feels increasingly less accepting with films that feel less inclusive to everyone, go support the movie about five completely different people of different skin colors, genders, and sexualities coming together to take on oppression and greed on the same level, pushing toward a better future. The future we all demand, but didn’t show up to support.

Let’s talk about: Homophobia

Tumblr is basically full of the Lgbtq+ Community. So what is a better place to talk about it than here?

As we all know, the LGBTQ+ Community has gained support and acceptance lately, with Ireland and the US legalizing same-sex marriage.

But that does not mean that this is the way it is everywhere. It is still illegal to be homosexual (or bi, a, pan, demi,…/trans, fluid, a,… you know what I mean) in a lot of countries around the world. There is still inequality.

And people justify their homophobia and there not being equality with stupid explanations.

Let me break some down.

1. “Homosexuality is wrong because the bible says so!”

But doesn’t the bible also say to “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12, 31)? To love and support others? Not to hate? To not judge others because only god can do that? (Matthew 7,1-2: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.“)

Doesn’t the bible state that through Jesus all our sins are forgiven? Why do you exclude Homosexuality from that?

Doesn’t the bible also say that divorce is a sin? That it’s a sin to wear a piece of clothing made up of more than one fabric? That it is a sin to picture God and yet that’s what everyone does? Why aren’t these bad, but Homosexuality is?

Doesn’t it say in Luke 15, 7: “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.“?

So why is it that some Homophobes justify their homophobia with “The bible says so!” but forget about all the others sins, the sins being forgiven?

Don’t justify your Homophobia with the Bible. That is proven wrong easily.

2. “Because it’s against my Religion!”

This one goes with 1., but I just need to add something.

I don’t like tomatoes, but that doesn’t mean that I go around telling people that “NO! You can’t like tomatoes because I don’t like them! How dare you!”

A lot of my friends and I are vegetarians. Yet we don’t go around telling others “You can’t eat meat because WE don’t and WE think it’s wrong and disgusting!”

It’s the same thing. Saying that Homosexuality is wrong because your’re religion says so is stupid. Don’t. Just don’t.

3. “Because I think it’s disgusting!”

Same thing as 2. You not liking something doesn’t give you the right to discriminate others and to tell them what they can and can’t do.

4. “I don’t want my kids to see it! They could turn gay!”

Okay now listen the fuck up. If anyone ever says that (about a TV show, movie, game, a couple, etc.) I’m probably going to flip shit.

Homosexuals literally were in contact with Heterosexuality their whole life. They see it everyday in public, on TV, in games, in movies, etc. which is fine.

But has it magically turned them straight? No. They’re still fabulously gay.

You don’t turn gay. You are BORN that way. And there’s nothing wrong with it.

In fact, recent studies show that it might actually be genetic.

Otherwise we should probably not let our kids near dogs because it might just turn them into one. Come on people, honestly.

5. The classic “It’s just… weird. I don’t like it.”

I don’t know about you, but I love weird things. I am the definition of weird.

But that’s off the point.

Basically, this is the same as 2. and 3. again.

I find it weird that some people hate reading. Am I going to hate them? Tell them that they’re wrong, that they’re not allowed to not like reading?

No, of course I’m not.

We’re all different. We’re all our own individual human beings. You are allowed to like different things than others. That’s part of what makes you unique. That’s good.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to live in a world were everyone is the same. No, thanks.

6. When people simply don’t know what it is, but it’s unknown to them so it surely is scary and wrong.

Seriously? Go read a book, look it up, ask someone, I don’t care. Don’t fear the unknow, fear not being brave enough to look it up. Don’t be stupid, find out what it means. We’re in the 21st century for god’s sake!

7. “They can’t have kids!”

If you think that our only purpose is to reproduce than I feel sorry for you. And this comes from someone who desperatly wants children when they’re older.

(I’m not on this planet to have kids okay. I’m more than my womb.)

Also, even though they can’t have biological children (YET. We’re getting there, I’ve read that it might be possible in a few years. It’s being worked on.) they could still adopt. If they were allowed to. There are millions of Orphans, kids living on the street, kids living in troubled homes with no love. Why shouldn’t they live with a loving homosexual couple? Of course they can live with a heterosexual couple, it doesn’t matter, the point is that some people are against homosexuality because “They can’t have kids.” and that’s stupid.

It doesn’t take a man and a woman to be parents. It takes two loving human beings (when talking about humans, not animals), more if you’re a polygamist I guess. Who cares what gender they have.

8. Ah, yes, the good old “You’re going to hell!”

Well what can I say other than the good old answer “No-o! I’m going to hell! With all the other homosexuals! That is SO horrible, how am I going to live there with all my mutuals gays???…”

Gay party man, that’s not bad. What kinda argument even is that.

Also, I’ll be happy to welcome you there while I sit on my throne because, you know, people who hate on others aren’t welcome in heaven either.

9. “Bisexuals are not real!”

Yes they are. I like chocolate and ice cream, I don’t need to decide on one.

A frog can live in water and on land. It is allowed to live on both and doesn’t have to choose one.

I can like men and women. I don’t need to decide on one.

Also, Pansexuals, Asexuals, Demisexuals, etc. are real too.

No one can tell you that you’re sexuality isn’t real or valid. It’s YOUR sexuality, no one else’s. Only YOU can decide what you are and your decision is valid!

10. “I’m afraid they’re going to hit on me…”

Ahh, yes. VERY likely. Like every boy (if you’re a girl; if you’re a boy then it’s every girl) is going to hit on you because they’re a boy(/girl), they MUST therefore hit on you, right? That’s what straight people do, right?

NO! You don’t think that about straight people because that’s not what they do. Don’t be so stupid and think that just because someone’s gay they’ll immediately hit on you. They won’t, trust me, they’re not doing that either!

If you’re still worried about that then let me calm you down, no one’s going to hit on you with THAT attitude.

Gay is a sexuality, it doesn’t stand for “Is going to hit on you.”

11. “It’s Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve!”

Sigh. My mom and dad’s names aren’t Adam and Eve. Does that mean THEIR love and marriage is wrong too??1?1

Also, Adam and Eve LITERALLY comitted the first sin ever. We were kicked out of paradise because of them. I don’t think they’re the best role models, now are they?

And yes God created Adam and Eve (if we’re going from the Bible, idk how it is in the Quran, Torah, etc., sorry), but he also created Hitler, Stalin, every Murderer there is. I’m not saying that Adam and Eve were wrong. They weren’t. But to use this creation (and couple) of God to justify why homosexuality is wrong is stupid.

I’m sure I forgot things so feel free to add them.

Also, these arguments against homophobia aren’t all made up by me, I’ve read them at some point and taken them on.

Thank you for your attention.

Stop your homophobia. It’s dumb.

This is perfection

Is it just me or am I seeing a lot of celeb look alikes in the Ridonculous Race? Well, I made an edit giving a few examples in a side by side comparison.
