Okay so I just wanted to keep a track record on how many damn parallels Julie is giving us this season with Isaks…because this isn’t her being lazy and doing what makes people happy….noooo this is her setting us up for something we will not be ready for. So for us to work out what that is going to be, it might be easier if we look at what exactly has been paralleled so far with Isak’s season.
1. The Intro
Season 3 and season 4 are the only two seasons to start out by using the same powerful concept of introducing our mains current world with flashes of images of things that are happening everywhere that are connected and actually have an impact on the mains story very much. It shows how important everything that happened around us can be to our own personal small individual worlds. That just because it hasn’t happened to you, doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter, that is doesn’t effect you or have a connection to who you are and what you’re going through. And Both Isak and Sana’s seasons show us this in the first minutes of their story.
2. Group Dynamics
In both seasons we have gotten a similar scene with Sana/Isak, eating lunch while their friends discuss sex which makes both mains feel alienated and uncomfortable within the group. We see how different they both feel within their group dynamics and this feeling of never being able to “fit in”. This parallel almost sets up that Isak and Sana are both in a similar mind set. The feeling of not being able to connect with the people close to them.
3. The heartbreak party scene
This parallel was way too similar. The mains both see their love interest with someone else which both hurts and prompts them to question everything they have felt and seen so far.
4. The Crush Stalking in Biology
I don’t think I need to say much on this one because oh my god this whole clip was a repeat of Isak’s biology clip. Even from the title we go from ‘Even’ to ‘Yousef’, the setting, Mikael, even Isak interrupts Sana just like Sana interrupted Isak. This was a very blatant parallel and I feel like this is Julie’s way of making sure that we know these parallels and repeats are in no way a ‘coincidence’ there’s a purpose and I am so keen to see what it is.
5. “I’ll fix it”
So when we go back to Isak’s season the drama all starts with Isak losing Mahdi’s weed. we get this conflict when Mahdi tells him it’s 1000 kroner and Isak tries to calm him by affirming to him that he well “fix it” and thus this is how he ends up getting blackmailed by Sana to go to the kosegruppa where he meets and Even and boom all the drama plays out. This then parallels Sana who says the exact same thing to the girls when they tell her they cannot afford the bus. So just like Isak’s season it seems like this is where all the drama is going to start. With Sana determined to do anything to ‘fix’ this.
6. The cute kitchen bonding
I loooooved this new clip so much it was so fluffy and cute and it gave me the feels but guys…..it also made me feel incredibly suspicious…why? This is another blatant parallel of the iconic evak bonding domestic kitchen scene from episode 2 of season 3. Even the positioning of Isak/Sana and Even/Yousef is eerily similar. We also have the love interests preparing food for the main as they give them the hearteyes (same) and then they laugh and giggle over cute things and it’s all so perfect.
this is the 6th parallel and I feel like there are more but these ones are the most obvious to me. Clear easter eggs Julie is giving us to freak out over (which I am) she wants us to see this parallel. To notice the Evak reference just like we did with the R+J reference in s3.
she wants us to see it, so when she pulls back the curtain and reveals the true reference we will once again be thrown off our feet.
ahhh I am so nervous.
Feel free to add on any other parallels you guys have seen <3
Look, if you weren’t one of the thousands of people to insult MatPat for his Undertale videos, you can kindly ignore this. But for those rabid Undertale fans who DID, this is for you.
I don’t care whether or not those theories impressed you. I don’t care whether or not you enjoy his content. I don’t CARE. Watching the first half of Mat’s video today absolutely shattered my heart. The fact that almost all of the fandom completely ATTACKED him for a fan made theory video is despicable. Making theories for his channel can take MONTHS of work and effort. Do you find it morally right as a person to ridicule and mock him for almost an entire YEAR just because his theory didn’t match up to whatever you thought was canon? Do you think it was right to crush his spirit and make him afraid to post any more theories about such a popular game? I’m not saying that this particular theory was the best one he ever made, but so what? You DO NOT harass him online for ages upon ages just because you don’t agree with him! Why is being a decent person online so difficult for everyone? Why does this type of thing have to be so common and accepted all across Youtube?
Meeting the Pope was a huge honor for him, and now he can no longer look back on that experience as he should, with pride and happiness, because you took that away from him. You FAILED to see the subliminal message behind his gift, and you left him at the point of having to pause one of his theory videos just so he could share that. And you can see the tears he has in his eyes throughout that whole clip. Mat isn’t the type of person to make his feelings public, so this should be a GIANT embarrassment for you as a community, if you can even call yourself such. And the Undertale fandom doesn’t have just this one instance under their belt, either. Quite a few of you have been art thieves or just toxic people in general, and that definitely isn’t something to be proud about. So I have a request…
LEAVE THIS LAST UNDERTALE VIDEO ALONE. DON’T MAKE MATPAT TOO AFRAID TO EVEN CONSULT HIS FOLLOWING ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL ISSUES THIS SERIES HAS CAUSED HIM. JUST LEAVE HIM BE.
the funniest thing about that whole clip is the fact that lance is so prepared to milk a cow in his pyjamas like it’s the most normal thing to do???? he’s so skilled at milking a cow that he doesn’t have to bother even changing and then STRAIGHT UP CHUGS UNPASTEURISED MILK ANDENJOYS ITlike….. holy shit… don’t fuck with lance mcclain i shit you not
Clip opens with Sana listening to 2pac’s Dear Mama: the song is an ode to mothers. The following lyrics, I find, very fitting for Sana:
‘Cause through the drama I can always depend on my mama
And when it seems that I’m hopeless
You say the words that can get me back in focus
We see, once again, that Sana is very into science. This time, we can see scientific articles in the background of her Facebook instead of basketball ones.
I love playing “spot the NRK employee” on the social media pages. We can see about three during the whole clip but this guy, in particular, looks like a very cool artist (and he has an Instagram displaying his work).
While she smiles fondly at Yousef’s message (that contains alcohol), she’s surprised with a call to prayer which I think she sees as a confirmation that focusing on an atheist boy will distract her from her faith.
She mutes the call. (I’m not so sure but I had feelings Sana will struggle with her faith this season and maybe deviate from how she usually practices it a bit, in her struggles. Like maybe she’ll start missing prayers? I’m not sure though, it’s more of a “what if”. If that’s the case: the lingering on the muted call to prayer could be the start of her “straying”.)
She unfriends Yousef. Our hearts break.
The reference to biology, to me, is another reinforcing of her link with Isak. It immediately reminds us of him and his dynamic with her.
It’s funny how she talks about studying the immune system, seeing as it’s the system that protects your body against harm. I think it might be a nod to her trying to protect herself from heartbreak re: Yousef.
I have no idea if this next detail is purposeful but I spat my water when I noticed it: we see a display of A DOZEN EGGS which, frankly, reminded me of Yousef’s 12 kids.
(a bit like the scene in the kitchen in s1 where Chris breaks an egg and just after we have Vilde confess that she thinks she might be pregnant…but we later learn she was never pregnant: broken egg/no children)
We get another example of how much mother trusts daughter. I feel like that trust is bound to be broken badly. What with how much we’re reminded of its existence.
It’s a common thread in growing up actually, when I think about it. “You used to tell me all your secrets but we barely talk anymore.” You grow up and your mother is not your best friend anymore. You feel like your secrets are too big now to be shared. You feel like there are some things she could never understand. Maybe we’ll learn something about Sana’s parents’ relationship later in the story. Something that will surprise Sana (and us) and help renew her relationship with her mother. Relate again.
And then we get an interesting transition:
“Have you talked to the handsome Muslim boy?” No.
Because Yousef is not Muslim.
Because the handsome Muslim boy has yet to come.
“Remember There Isn’t Just One Person Out There For You”
