One worker killed and 1 wounded in fertilizer factory explosion in western Turkey
An employee at a fertilizer factory was killed and another employee wounded in an explosion that occurred in Turkey’s western province of Bursa early on Sunday.
According to the Doğan news agency, a powerful blast that was heard in a 15-kilometer radius took place in an area of the fertilizer factory with steam boilers in Bursa’s Gemlik district at around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, causing a stairway and elevator system to collapse.
A large number of firefighter teams, ambulances, police and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. Worker Uğur Çavdar was found dead after a four-hour search due to being trapped in the blast’s rubble, and another worker, Mustafa Karakol, was wounded in the head during the accident. Karakol was taken to the Muammer Ağım State Hospital and then referred to Şevket Yılmaz Training and Research hospital after his initial treatment.
