Supergirl Theory

I have had a theory of what might happen on Supergirl with regards to Karamel for some time, but after seeing Kevin Smith’s new interview, it’s made me think they might be moving the storyline in that direction sooner than I thought. It is well-known what a huge fan of DC lore and Karamel he is, and this is what he had to say:

The benefit of doing the show (as a director) is I know what’s happening for now till the end of this season, and I also know what happens next season. And I’m gonna tell you right now, it fucking makes me cry…[The EP told the story and their plans] And I, like, instantly was rolling tears, it is so fucking good. They (The EP) told me some shit that they’re doing which as a DC fan made me just nuts spontaneously in my fucking pants. But also as somebody who just likes good stories, I was like.. That’s fantastic. Good shit coming up, man” -Kevin Smith

SHIIIIIT! There is gonna be angst like we’ve never seen before. I think 2x17 is going to be a bit lighter and fun after all the angst of 2x16/The Flash crossover, but I have a feeling the season is going to end with a major dramatic cliffhanger that is going to rip our hearts out of our butts… My guess is they’re going to bring in the Phantom Zone storyline that is so tied to Mon El’s character in the comics. That would not only cause angst but a season finale is perfect timing to begin a separation between characters. We as fans would feel the separation, and it allows the writers to control the timeline without disrupting the flow of the show too much. The writers are able to take liberties and have time and again changed things on the show that are canon in the DC comics, but I think this story is too good and too tied to Mon El’s character for them to not use it on the show.

My theory is Mon El will succumb to lead poisoning by being shot by his own mother. Dark, I know, but we know she is the villain of this last part of the season, and after trying (and failing) to convince Mon El to return to Daxam with them, I think she will just be super pissed and want him to suffer. Perhaps she shoots him directly or she’s aiming for Kara who is somehow vulnerable and Mon El jumps in front of her. Oh yeah, I like that idea more… They would then send him to The Phantom Zone in stasis while they work on a cure for his poisoning. Maybe they stretch this out for a good chunk of the season, but I would hope they figure something out within the first few episodes, because, you know, Chris Wood ;) However, instead of keeping him in the PZ for centuries like they did in the comics, I bet this all takes place over the course of a few months. It would also bring this season full circle since it began with Mon El arriving in a pod, and it would end with him being sent away in one…. *heart breaks just thinking about it*

I think this true love separation trope will definitely be explored at some point though, if not now than later. It’s a challenge that writers love putting true love couples through (Han x Leia and Hook x Emma for example).

I could be waaaaay totally off base with this, but it’s something I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing, as much as it’s going to hurt…..

Listen just one minute though….

Lena chose Kara over Jack.

Rhea proposes business deal to Lena that conflicts with Kara/Supergirl and Mon-whatshisfaceis. So… this could either lead to….

1) Lena AGAIN having to make a decision - L-corp or Kara   OR
2) KARA having to make a decision between Lena and him.

Could involve having to possibly kill his mother but he doesn’t want that yet Kara has to save Lena/stop innocent lives being lost. He doesn’t like his mother but I don’t think he’d allow her to kill her or even incarcerate her…

Kara’s CONSTANTLY reassuring Lena they will ALWAYS be friends, she will ALWAYS protect her but what if she has to pick.

I don’t know how much he knew at the time but Kevin Smith said in an interview that he thought Kara and Mon-wotsit were star crossed lovers and I hate to spoil Romeo and Juliet but they die, which can’t happen to Kara but there is plenty of lead on earth when compared to Kryptonite.

“Smith is also aware of the relationship’s built-in tragedies, assuming the writers decide to stick with Kara and Mon-El’s original storyline from the comics.”

“Unfortunately, I don’t know if we’ll get them forever, because I know the comic books,” he says. I’m not saying they can’t be together, but… yeah, they can’t be together.”  - Kevin Smith.

We know Katie McGrath is coming back next season but the real question I think is going to play a big part this season is how strong is Kara and Lena’s relationship (in whatever capacity or form it takes, though despite my little Supercorp loving heart).

I’m hoping it’s enough for Kara to make good on her promises and ALWAYS be there.

Conjecture

So, we’ve seen the spoiler pic that Kevin Smith posted of the flight ring. (Which in the comics gives Mon El the power of flight)

We know Supergirl was filming on a roof. Witnesses say it was a romantic Karamel “date”.

But…. What if Kara is teaching him to fly? 😍😍😍😍😍

Of course, Kara wasn’t the only Danvers sister whose love life Smith couldn’t wait to explore. In many ways, he says, “Alex is the heart and soul of this show.”

“The Alex and Maggie relationship starts turning into something really beautiful,” he teases. “We got to do a couple of scenes with them, early in the relationship, where they start to figure out who they are as a couple.”

thatkevinsmith: The episode of @cwtheflash I directed airs in 3 weeks! Been working on the edit with my ep editor Nathan and we’ve got it down to a PACKED 42 mins. The episode is called #KillerFrost and @dpanabaker absolutely CRUSHES in it, while @tha_los has one of my favorite moments ever filmed for #TheFlash. Get your tissues ready, Super friends: you’ll need them not just for all the Feels but for all the geekgasmic moments involving major reveals too! I love this episode so much: EVERYONE gets a killer scene in which they show off their acting chops (and some folks get to show off abilities and super powers far beyond those of mortal men & women)! Thanks to Speedster scribes @andrewkreisberg & co. for the intense script and @gberlanti for bringing the @dccomics Universe to life on @thecw as an amazing playground where a 46 year old boy can play with life-sized action figures! And huge thanks to my in-the-trenches episodic brain trust of Bob, Kim and Lexy for making me keep look like I know what I’m doing! Can’t wait until my ep airs in mid-November but in the meantime? It’s back to work on Day 2 of 9 on @supergirlcw (my first day with the cape and costume)! #KevinSmith #daniellepanabaker #carlosvaldes #thecw #flashseason3 #supergirl #vancouver

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; ROULETTE RETURNS — Kara (Melissa Benoist) is moved by the story of a missing woman named Izzy (guest star Harley Quinn Smith) and decides to investigate despite Snapper Carr’s (guest star Ian Gomez) order to leave it alone. Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon, where the downtrodden are sold as slaves. The leader of the trafficking ring is none other than Roulette (guest star Dichen Lachman).
“There’s a really tender scene between Chyler and Floriana [Lima]”

“I love Chyler Leigh. I think she’s amazing. I think she’s a fantastic actress, as is Melissa [Benoist],” he said. “But what they’re doing with Chyler’s character this year and hooking her up with Maggie Sawyer is not just great storytelling, but important storytelling for a bunch of people out there who see themselves reflected in that relationship. We’ve seen it online – there have been a bunch of stories generated by people who are like, ‘This means something.’ So we have a few scenes with those characters where we get to play with that, particularly because it’s early in their relationship. There’s a really tender scene between Chyler and Floriana [Lima]. I didn’t act in it; they did all the acting. I just put cameras on it. But I feel it’s a really strong piece of that arc going forward – the building of a real relationship between those characters. So I was proud and happy about that.”

So I didn’t say anything about 2x09 press release because I’ve been busy today but: “Kara takes Mon-El (Chris Wood) with her to the last place Izzy was seen and the duo find themselves thrust through a portal to another planet, Slaver’s Moon […] To make matters worse, Slaver’s Moon has a red sun, which means Kara and Mon-El are stripped of their powers and stuck on the planet with no way home.”

I mean…

Kara and Mon-El working as a team and alone on another planet.

What we know about Alex, Maggie & Sanvers coming up

Rounding up everything we know about Chyler and/or Floriana filming for Supergirl 2B so far. SPOILERS BELOW.

2x09 (Supergirl Lives):

-This episode was directed by Kevin Smith, who in a video praised Chyler’s acting in it. He referenced her amazing performance in 2x06 and said, “In my episode, she’s got some killer stuff too.”
-Smith also said the episode ran 12 minutes long so several scenes they shot have to be cut and that it would be really hard cause everything’s important…so keep that in mind in general.
-The girl who plays young Alex was reportedly on set during filming of this episode, suggesting an Alex flashback.

-There was a BTS photo of Chyler and Melissa together with Smith on set, suggesting a Danvers sister scene, and his description made it sound emotional. We know from the press release that Alex will blame herself for Kara’s disappearance when her and Mon El go to Slaver’s Moon, believing she’d been focusing too much on Maggie. MORE UNDER THE CUT:
