“give me a broken, self-loathing man who firmly believes no one could ever love him and a strong-willed woman who doesn’t take any of his shit and gradually becomes his light and hope and sun and stars and i assure you i will ship it til my dying breath” (x)
EW: You could have done this same story with any kind of couple. What made two women the best choice? Brooker: It was a heterosexual couple when I first put the story down. And then I thought, “Well, what if it wasn’t?” And I think it gives it an extra resonance because they couldn’t have legally got married in 1987, so we’re gifting them that in this world, in this story of second chances. And that added an extra layer to the whole subtext about reliving your life and exploring things you didn’t have a chance to do.
That deliberate-looking shot of the plane flying in the background at the beach near the the end — does that mean you can travel to other places and not just stay in ’80s dance club heaven? You know what? I never thought of that! The idea is there’s almost different channels for decades you can select to enter in the same environment. So going to another place would be like in Grand Theft Auto going from Los Santos in GTA V to San Andreas. But I dare say there would be a nostalgic version of Britain and Spain and New York. So now, I’ve talked myself around to say: Yes, that’s what that plane is there to do!
Can you talk about the credits? The Belinda Carlisle song adds so much, not just to the ending but to everything you’ve seen before it. I know, and I’m praying people don’t just stop the episode as soon as they see the first credit, because it unlocks [the rest of the story]. I started writing the script and I put together a Spotify playlist of music from 1987. I go running every so often and that song came on while I was jogging I was like, “Well, that’s gotta go in.” And that basically gave me the ending scene. So one of the first things we did is check if we could clear this song [for use in the episode] and I would have been absolutely distraught if we couldn’t have done it. It’s something we’ve done in previous episodes, where we have story continuing to unfold throughout the end credits, but it’s the only time we do it in this season. It feels like an nice way of adding an extra coda. It’s also a wry joke in a way, that heaven is literally a place on earth, as we reveal the absolute cold reality of what’s going on. Hopefully it leaves people with a smile on their face, which is an alien experience after watching Black Mirror.
Lot’s of people: “you should put away your phone before you go to bed, and you wouldn’t have trouble falling asleep.”
Would be reasonable advise if i didn’t keep explaining that my anxiety gets worse at night and my phone keeps me distracted and calm until i get tired enough to fall asleep. Please listen.
The “too provocative” comments have me absolutely steaming but nothing pisses me off more than this new girl band on the X-Factor who said they want to be “cool and edgy with the harmonies rather than that sexiness that (LM) is kind of asking for” SORRY?!?!?! Have you heard their harmonies??!?!?! In the first week on X Factor their harmonies were slaying yours let alone 5 years into their insanely accomplished career so please don’t make comments like that unless you’re ready to back them up. Also, yeah they’ve been dressing a little sexier since Get Weird but that is in NO WAY how they got to where they are today and it kind of disgusts me that (maybe without meaning to) that is what this girl is insinuating. They wore BLAZERS AND BAGGY PANTS throughout the Salute Era and lets not even mention what they wore on X Factor (because those were dark times in LM style) and made them look like asexual creatures tbh.
Here’s some exclusive photographic evidence of the girls neglecting their harmonies and using sex to build their career:
omg shield my eyes Jade’s shoulders are showing and BELLYBUTTONS?!?! Also Perrie’s head is showing welp way too sexy for me
Call the cops Leigh’s leg has escaped the confines of her dress and Perrie’s ankles are showing what will the town elders think??
Well their thighs are exposed time to call it quits on their voices because why listen when SKIN IS SHOWING?!?!
And now they look hotter than they ever have and are confident in their bodies and it is AMAZING. I’m not gonna pretend that if I was that hot and talented I wouldn’t be out there naked (like they honestly look covered up to me??) and even if they were out there naked IT’S NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!! They look fantastic, they sound fantastic, they are happy, they are in their mid-twenties so sit back, relax, and watch them take over the world because they don’t give a shit about what any y’all say.
When Rowan, Bog and Marianne’s youngest child at 7 years old, is kidnapped during a festival, Thorne—the eldest daughter—immediately springs into action to save him. Hours of feverish searching ends in a solo ambush and success, Thorne saving her younger brother without enduring a single injury, while Rowan’s kidnappers experience the most frightening night of their lives, gifted by a sixteen year old girl.
Here I go again with another discussion plot (lmfao) but… I wonder about this certain subject a lot. (Long post ahead –)
It seems like collectively as a fandom, everyone gladly accepts the ‘maybe someday’ scene or the 'we’re perfect for each other’ scene but 6741 is a big no. I don’t quite get it cause I mean no shade they’re both simulations and they both didn’t actually happen BUT they’re both important scenes/eps that pushed Shoot’s relationship further imo. Especially 6741. I get the fact that everyone was ooc (intentionally) and some parts were triggering, trust me I couldn’t stand having to see Shaw shoot herself but that was the only part I truly had a problem with. Everything else was just so huge for their relationship. We finally got to see how Shaw really feels, in her head is the only way that could’ve happened because she’s not very emotive in real life. She just isn’t and never will be so it was very cool to be able to see her side of things for a change. We already knew how Root felt but it was always up in the air on Shaw’s end. I mean of course us shippers had no doubt that she did have feelings for Root but to what extent? They were all just guesses to be honest. Now though? We have canon proof that their love for each other is equal. No one can debate this anymore. During those 11 months Shaw was captured, the thought of Root is what kept her going forward and being able to deal with everything that was happening to her. If that isn’t some intense love idk what is.
I just don’t think we should dismiss that. Plus we finally got to see how Shoot would look as a couple acting domestically. Even if we had gotten more seasons we probably never would’ve gotten any of what 6741 gave us because it wouldn’t have fit in anywhere. More missions together and some flirting and another kiss if we were lucky but a sex scene plus them in bed together (with the adorable 'come back to bed’ part after that) and a cute morning after? Never. I’m forever grateful for the visual of this, I don’t have to imagine it just in fanfic anymore. Not to mention the now iconic 'you were my safe place’ scene. Probably the most important Shoot scene along with the handholding.
So idk I just don’t like how much hate it gets from some people. Maybe it’s just me though. I’d like to hear opinions if anyone disagrees with this. :-)
