The next Star Trek film is titled, Star Trek Beyond. A title that promises to do what the previous two films haven’t: explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, boldly go where no man has gone before.

Besides the Enterprise finally exploring the final frontier,  Idris Elba (Thor, Luther) was added to the cast to infuse new energy into the series, which lost some of its mojo after Into Darkness. He’ll be playing the film’s main villain and now he has made his first public comments confirming his involvement.

“Almost everyone was a Trekkie, really, weren’t they? I wouldn’t say I was a hardcore one but I definitely watched that show a million times,” Idris told British newspaper Metro (via Ireland’s TV3). “Spock was probably my favourite character - and in this one I have some scenes with Zachary Quinto [who plays Spock].”

Star Trek Beyond is scheduled for release on July 8, 2016.

“[W]e just want to take it forward with the spirit of the TV show. And it’s a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know. Where no man has gone before – where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation.” – Simon Pegg on writing Star Trek 3

I can’t wait to gather again, and get back into uniform and back on the Enterprise, which we’re going to be doing later on this year. Simon Pegg is co-writing it… Let’s hope I live. Cause he pranks me, him and Pine, they pranked me pretty good. So I’ve been saying for years ‘I’m gonna get you, Pegg, you wait, I’ll get you’. Now he’s writing the script of the movie, and I’m like ’… I’m not gonna get you, man. You’re safe. You’re good’. I’m sure I will open the script and it will be like 'Bones exits the scene wearing a red shirt’.
