“Sharpe” - Digital Oil Painting

Haven’t painted Tom in a while, a gross oversight on my part. I tried something new with this one. His eyes were looking rather gray, so I used an “eye iris” brush on his eyes, trying to bring out that more turquoise color. I don’t know if I like the result in the end, but hey, I learned something.

This is NOT a Photoshop filter, every stroke is painted by me.

Sharpe

Edwin Sharpe and Delilah O’Feefe married and are living on Domestic Drive in a run-down yellow rental. Delilah got a job in the gaming career, but Edwin - whose people skills haven’t improved noticeably - keeps flubbing his interviews. Knowing how hard Delilah is working at gestating, he does his best to pull his weight. But in his heart he’s feeling pretty useless. Delilah makes the income, Delilah makes the friends, Delilah makes the baby - what is he good for?

It occurs to him that he most important job he’ll have for awhile is to be the Daddy.

Powers/Sharpe

Roxie and Edwin got close after he moved out to live with Delilah - absence and not sharing a bathroom makes the heart grow fonder and all that. Jonah and Edwin will never be each other’s favorite people, but they’re each resigned to the other being the price of Roxie.

There’s no question of marriage here, but so far there’s none of breaking up, either. Roxie is a drama queen and Jonah has a short fuse, but there’s an equilibrium here that nothing upsets for long.

WHY THE HELL DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT SHARPE? SERIOUSLY THOUGH...

SHARPE IS A COMMON SOLDIER FROM THE RANKS, WHO SAVES THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON’S LIFE DURING THE PENINSULAR WAR AND GETS PROMOTED TO AN OFFICER AND GOES ON MANY ADVENTURES AS A RESULT. HE IS PLAYED BY SEAN BEAN…

HOWEVER…

BEFORE YOU STOP THE CLOCKS AND COVER THE MIRRORS, RICHARD SHARPE HAS BEEN IN SIXTEEN… THAT’S RIGHT, SIXTEEN ADVENTURES!!! AND HE ISN’T DEAD!

THE POOR BASTARD HAS BEEN SHOT…

AND STABBED…

BUT HE FUCKING LIVES!

IS A GENERAL ALL ROUND BAMF AND AMAZING CHARACTER…

ALSO, HIS LONG LOST BROTHER IS PLAYED BY PHILIP GLENISTER…

“Oh, for -”
“Never mind, I’ve got it. I think I understand the diagram, anyhow.”

“And some of this, and a little of those, and then we’ll get on with rotating the shapes! You’ll be comfy in a minute, precious.”

“You’re amazing. I feel like a complete underachiever next to you.”
“Don’t worry, there’s plenty of achievement left for you.”

“I think I’ll back off the jobhunt for awhile. You shouldn’t have to worry about nannies and stuff on top of everything else. And I know you were hoping to make that tournament next month.”
“You sure? Working from home’s not so bad.”
“It gives them an excuse to crowd you and your girl cooties out of their clubhouse, so yeah, it kind of is.”

“Your daddy’s a pretty smart guy when he applies his mind to things, Delwina! So you can trust him to look after you while Mommy’s at work. Are you hungry now you’ve got all that out of your tummy?”

Edwin’s right - working from home ought to be just as good, but twice now she’s been crowded out of meetings she could have telecommuted for if she’d been kept in the loop. There’s no substitute for being on the ground, especially in a boys’ club industry like gaming.
And she’ll be leaving Delwina in good hands.

Edwin is nervous about his debut as stay-at-home dad, and hits the books hard. He needs to call the landlord about the heat, too.
