the beatnik hitchhiker as an old man (top pic) and as a young man (bottom pic). I was so obsessed with City Lights Books, Grove Press, and New Directions Paperbacks when I was a teenager that I just had to live the life. At the age of 18 I hitchhiked from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean and back. It was an incredible, spiritual experience that would have made my Beat heroes proud.

Bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi) or Cowberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) It was good to see such bright colours on an otherwise dull moorland. I tried eating just one and that was enough.
