i’m so invested in toronto’s mystery tunnel story. after a month of fruitless investigating and a week-long public appeal from the police, two anonymous guys have admitted to building the whole thing for funsies. that’s it, no big deal. just guys being dudes. they just dug a 30-foot tunnel for personal reasons. case closed. amazing.
So I just finished reading Harry Potter and Chamber of Secrets for the second time and it got me thinking….why do we all presume that Salazar Slytherin was the only one to have his own secret hiding place/extra addition to the school? I bet Rowena wanted a nice place for people to go to either go and study or get away from all the stress so she created the Room of Requirement.
Helga loved being out in nature but hated being around Godric and Salazar when they were fighting so she found the one place where she could bury herself. She built the Shrieking Shack underneath the Whomping Willow because she was the only one that was ever nice enough to fertilize the tree properly and cut off it’s deadest branches that were weighing it down. She was hoping if other kids learned to look past the tree’s brutal nature they could come to love the hiding place too.
Godric just wanted an easier way to move about the castle without Apparating…so he created all the fun tunnels that were leading in and out of the castle. No one could obey the rules forever right? In his mind he thought people would expand upon them which they did. Turned out to be a good thing for everyone.
I don’t know, i think it’s something cool to think about. Just thinking about them all hiding away from each other trying not to get caught adding in new additions to the building, it’s a fun thought.
