“Twenty-five years ago, before any of them had even reached the 8th grade, three of acoustic music’s most important young voices would debut their talents at a pizza joint in Carlsbad, California. That evening, in a part of the country known more for surfing and earthquakes than bluegrass, Sara Watkins, Sean Watkins and Chris Thile began their journey as Nickel Creek, and acoustic music felt a seismic shift.”

Born on a mountaintop way out west,

born tall and handsome and slim.

An asteroid fell for a wild desert flower,

that’s the story of Cactoid Jim.

(Yes Lord)

That legendary Cactoid Jim.

Well, a big forest fire was headed toward town,

hopes was lookin’ mighty dim

but he roped a raincloud from the western sky

doused the flames, that Cactoid Jim.

(Yes Lord)

That cloud-ropin’ Cactoid Jim.

Well the dam broke way up river last year

flood came runnin’ on in.

Well he swallowed that river,

patched the whole durn dam,

saved our village, that Cactoid Jim.

(Yes Lord)

Oh that flood-drinkin’ Cactoid Jim.

Some spooked hypercattle was stampeding towards our church,

in the middle of our Sunday hymn.

Well he called in a favor from the man upstairs,

we had burgers thanks to Cactoid Jim.

(Yes Lord)

Kiss the cook, it’s Cactoid Jim!

That cloud-ropin’, river-drinkin’, barbecuin’ Cactoid Jim!

Sparks Nevada Theme (Sean and Sara Watkins version)

When there’s varmits need a-catchin,

and youngin’s need a-saving,

on his rocket steed he races through the stars!

For he’s sworn by the burrs of his astro-spurs,

to right the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

Yes he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

Oh the hyper-cattle’s humming

and the Martian’s savage drumming

are as beautiful as comet bugs in jars!

Oh he’s from Earth!

But he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

Yes he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

On the plains of the red planet he upholds the law,

and he does it with a pair of robot fists –

POW!

Evil extermination he has faced,

for his robot rogues they hardly ever miss!

And I reckon he’ll be riding

in the name of truth and justice

for as long as he can count the shooting stars,

For he’s sworn by the burrs of his astro-spurs,

to right the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

Yes he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

Yes he rights the outlaw wrongs on Mars!

And he’s from earth!
