Places Mentoned in the Leviathan Trilogy (1/?):
Paintings of Alek’s ancestors, the family who had ruled Austria for six hundred years, lined the hallway, their subjects staring down with unreadable expressions. The antlers of his father’s hunting trophies cast tangled shadows, like a moonlit forest.

You know what’s a really good futuristic dystopian series that doesn’t nearly get as much attention as say, The Hunger Games, or Divergent?
The Uglies series
These were the first books that I read of the genre. This is what got me interested in the genre. And to think I almost didn’t read them because the description in the back of the first book made it seem more of a girly drama than the action scifi book that it actually is.
Basically it’s set in a distant future (duh) years after humanity nearly destroyed itself (way to go humanity). But we bounce back from it, and we’re better than ever! Now society seemingly functions perfectly with no wars or violence of any kind. At the age of 16 people are made to go through a surgery that turns them into a ‘Pretty’. Once you’re a pretty you get to be drop dead gorgeous, do whatever you please, and will have no worries of any kind. Awesome right? Wrong!
Turns out the Government or the 'Special Circumstances’ rather, are not turning people into models out of the kindness of their hearts. There is a conspiracy going on, and our leading lady Tally finds herself right in the middle of it.
Why do I like this series so much? Because it’s actually pretty freaking original! I like the Hunger Games and all, but It’s pretty (a lot) similar to Battle Royal. The Uglies on the other hand, took a concept that I thought was going to be really lame, and made an awesome book series out of it. I’m not going to say it’s a perfect series. It had a few questionable things, and it has a love triangle of sorts (though this was back before they started getting popular), but that doesn’t take away from the unique concept and witty writing.
There is another book in the series, but it has different characters and everything. Still worth a read though!
The series was written by Scott Westerfeld, who has to be one of my favorite authors. This mans writing is quirky and just plain weird sometimes, but I love it.
See this book right here?
This is his vampire book where the vampires aren’t really vampires, but rather humans with a nasty parasite. A parasite that caused the whole belief of vampires at that. And actual sciency stuff is thrown in here too! Every other chapter even talks about a different parasite. No sparkles here folks.
Westerfeld has also written many other great and fascinating books such as the Midnighters and Leviathan series. So give this dude some love because his books are entertaining, interesting, and hella fun to read!
A new book from Benjamin Alire Sáenz, the last book in the Magnus Chase trilogy & the second book in the Trials of Apollo series, Release by Patrick Ness, the first book in a new trilogy by Marie Lu, the third book in the ACOTAR series, the last book in the Illuminae Files, the last book in the Zeroes trilogy and the second book in The Dark Artifices trilogy!! 😄
They’re all my most anticipated books of 2017!!! ❤
