17th January 1950: A keeper showing the wingspan of a snowy owl which was presented to London Zoo by the captain of the steamer “Eros”. The captain adopted the bird as a pet after it flew on board his ship in the Arctic.
The first time that i had the chance to come close to this shy birds. I think the reason was, that there have been no other visitors in the “Owl canyon”. We moved very slowly and havent talked (Not easy for my kids, but they where also impressed). Normaly all the owls are sitting very far away from the visitors trail and i have no chance to make a photo with my equipment. What a lucky day.
