The Murder Trilogy

The songs that saw The Killers living up to their name, The Murder Trilogy is a collection of three songs spread across both their debut album Hot Fuss and their B-Side Album Sawdust. The songs detail the process of the protagonist loosing, killing and excusing themselves from the fate of their former girlfriend, Jenny. It remains ambiguous as to whether or not the protagonist is held accountable for their crimes.

First track - Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf (the breakup)

Oh, Jennifer, you know I always tried / Before you say goodbye / Leave the bourbon on the shelf / And I’ll drink it by myself / And I love you endlessly, / Darling don’t you see I’m not satisfied

Second track - Midnight Show (the murder)

I took my baby’s breath beneath the chandelier / Of stars and atmosphere / And watch her disappear / Into the midnight show

Final track - Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine (the conviction)

Tell me what you wanna know / Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on / There ain’t no motive for this crime / Jenny was a friend of mine /  So come on, oh come on, oh come on

Romeo & Juliet
The Killers
Romeo & Juliet
I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you
I can't do anything 'cept be in love with you
And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
And all I do is keep the beat and the bad company
And all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet, I'd do the stars with you any time

tag yourself - the killers albums

hot fuss: very jealous, aggressively bisexual, will legitimately kill a bitch, has amazing music taste

sam’s town: loves their family, just wants to leave their hometown, low self esteem, probably says “lover” unironically

sawdust: only their friends know they exist, steals others’ work but makes it better, actually pretty chill, can talk for an extremely long time

day & age: likes dancing (probably isn’t good at it), a dreamer, has never done anything wrong in their life, underrated and people that know them don’t understand why

battle born: doesn’t think they’re good enough, unlucky in love, probably goes to the gym (only to look cool), the boring friend

direct hits: basic & mostly unoriginal, only listens to the most popular songs from a band and then proceeds to say how good the band is, likes throwbacks, probably the most popular of their friends

don’t waste your wishes: very generous, celebrates christmas all year round, spends lots of time with their family, has done some bad things in the past but they make up for it by being a literal angel now

wonderful wonderful: needs to be protected at all costs, looks soft but is actually kinda badass, gives the best advice, loves their significant other more than themselves

the killers albums as moments in a summer day:

hot fuss: the middle of the night when the only lights are from street lights and signs

sam’s town: early afternoon when the sun is the most scorching and shadows almost don’t exist

sawdust: when a sudden summer storm arrives and the sky turns so gloomy you can’t tell which moment of the day it is anymore

day and age: when the sun is about to set and everything gets tinted with warm shades of oranges and reds

battle born: the early evening when it is all dark except for west where a faint light persists on the sky

wonderful wonderful: early morning, when the sun has just came out on the sky but the air is still crisp
