“I am a Black Feminist. I mean I recognize that my power as well as my primary oppressions come as a result of my blackness as well as my womaness, and therefore my struggles on both of these fronts are inseparable.” – Audre Lorde
I don't get why it would matter if she's black or white..?
For me personally I guess with such an emphasis as much of her work seems to have on Black and African figures most of Black tumblr expected the artist to be some cool young Black talent. Initially finding out that she is in fact white raises questions as to what it is that motivates her work. Her reasons for this series sound ok to me though but yes, in truth, the fact that the artist of such beautiful and strong Black images isn’t Black is a little disappointing and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Black people saying that.
