While the primary method of revealing the environment in The Unfinished Swan is splattering paint, it is notable that the stark contrast of everything in the environment is what makes these revelations possible. It’s not that the world is being given form, it’s that the form is being given context through contrast, and thus, makes each level understandable. Without context, the player isn’t even moving- they’re just in white space.
