SAVE-JAPAN

Underrated Anime

Here are some titles that I feel deserve more love than they get!

From the New World - This anime was a masterpiece. Paced and well-planned, the show entangles you without you knowing until its too late. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to sink their teeth into a psychological fantasy that leave you with a strange mix of innocence and uneasiness.

Princess Jellyfish - A love story between a confident and fashionable crossdresser and an awkward, introverted girl. This is golden!

Welcome to the NKH! - Just the right amount of humor and psychological torment to keep every viewer enthralled. Is it a conspiracy?

Monster - What happens when a promising young doctor saves the life of a boy who was fated to die? A gripping thriller of justice and revenge!

Bokurano - A group of kids become the chosen pilots of a robot faced with saving the planet, a beyond awesome experience for them!…or so they think. They sign the binding contract and now each one of them must pay the price.

Wolf’s Rain - As legend has it, wolves will open the gate to Paradise in a dying world. This anime is a gripping, heart-wrenching tale of an unlikely pack of wolves searching for promised Paradise. Out of any of the shows on this list, Wolf’s Rain is worth watching. It is a legend it its own right.

Samurai Champloo - THE MUSIC. The music alone should be enough to draw you into this epic tale, but in case you need more persuasion, know that this show revolves around the two most badass fighters in town and their quest to help a girl they are indebted to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers. Ugh its so gooooood.

Mawaru Penguindrum - Weird and comical sum up this anime pretty nicely! It is a fun watch that you will find hard not to binge on once you start. Stay with me people: An alien penguin-hat grants a girl her life back in exchange for her two bothers’ help in acquiring the Penguindrum (whatever that is). I know what you are thinking, but please give it a try! You won’t regret it!

Eden of the East - “This nation faces a great crisis. One among you must save us. I cannot tell you how. I cannot tell you why. Should you fail, you will be eliminated.” 12 people have been chosen to save Japan, each given a phone with 10 billion yen on it and the simple instruction to save Japan–their lives are on the line. Despite this harsh description, the actual show also has an element of humor, so don’t be afraid to jump in! Noblesse Oblige.

Steins;Gate - Many of you have probably heard of this and thought that is was too stuffy or complicated for you, but I’m here to tell you that you will watch this show, make it to episode 22, and then thank me. YOUR WELCOME. Sure, this show takes some getting into, but once you delve deeper into the plot, you will find things falling into place. It has unconventional characters, a really great romance stuck in there, and a pretty refreshing, sciency tone. Enjoy.

Nodame Cantabile - To think that so many people have not seen this gift to humanity sickens me. Nodame is most assuredly the most interesting and unique anime character to walk this little anime earth. There is music! There is romance! There is SO MUCH HUMOR! There are 3 seasons!!! You can’t really pass up this opportunity to watch a legend.

Hunter X Hunter (2011) - This is the only long-running shonen series I will ever watch. This is a series for those of you who like action but not fight scenes that span multiple episodes and like actual character development and good animation consistently throughout the show (I swear its perfect the whole way). Gon wants to be a Hunter just like his father and he meets Killua, the boy-assassin (an resident cinnamon roll), Kurapika, the last of the Kurta clan hell-bent on revenge, and Leorio, a guy who wants to strike it rich. Follow these four on a journey you won’t forget!

built five hundred feet into the permafrost of a norwegian island located some six hundred miles from the north pole (and twice that from oslo), the svalbard global seed vault is the world’s largest and most secure seed bank.

safe from earthquake and flooding, and designed to last a thousand years, its mission is to serve as a backup for planet’s agriculture in the event of a catastrophe, be it from drought, floods, disease, war (see: syria) and/or the slow moving disaster of climate change.

known as the doomsday vault, it has amassed over 840,000 seed samples since the first deposit, that of rice seeds, was made in 2008 by the late kenyan environmental activist and nobel peace prize winner, wangari maathai.

since then, all countries, save japan and china (the later of which is believed to have already lost 90 percent of its rice varieties) have entrusted the site with their agricultural heritage, and the collection, as of now, covers about half of the world’s known crop diversity.

[Major Spoilers] “Follow your true feelings!”: My Musings on P5′s Wildcard Couple

Can we talk about Morgana’s astute observations regarding Akechi’s true feelings for Akira? Can we talk about how (Morgana’s words–not mine) Akechi’s smile when he was hanging out with Akira had been genuine? This boy– who had distanced himself from everyone, who had wrapped himself up in layers upon layers of lies that he wears like a second skin, who had made revenge his one and only goal in life – had also, in spite of himself, serendipitously found kinship in the one boy whom he has decided that he has to kill.

Phantom Confidants AU

In an alternate universe, I actually write about a P5 AU where the non-party social links are the phantom thieves of that universe. So Mishima, Hifumi, Shinya, Sojiro, Toranosuke, Iwai, Takemi, Ohya, Chihaya, Kawakami and even Sae. Honestly I would have loved to have an animal in the group but Morgana is the only animal social link and he’s an original member. But hey it’s still a pretty diverse group considering it’s a mix of mostly adults, some teens, and a kid. They’ve got a pretty badass lineup to be honest so here’s how I think it’ll go.

Saving Japan's Games
On a Sunday morning in September, Typhoon Talim was flooding the western part of Japan with a torrential downpour, but at Todoroki Station in Tokyo on the other end of the country, its effects were limited to a light rain. A 20-minute ride south of the city’s famous Shibuya crossing, Todoroki is a sleepy residential station served by a single local train line. I got off the train at 9:30 a.m. and opened up my too-small cheap umbrella. Face down in Google Maps, I passed by the small cluster of fast food eateries and convenience stores by the station turnstiles. The shops gave way to the sort of Tokyo you don’t see if you don’t leave its center: Trees. Winding roads. Gas stations. A garden full of massive leafy vegetables. A driving range.

An excellent article about the work being done by Joseph Redon and the Game Preservation Society in Japan, where more families tend to throw out old technology. Redon estimates that 99% of Japanese computer software since the 80s has been destroyed.

This is critical work, and it underscores how important international, cross-cultural collaboration is to understanding gaming history. The PC-88 is almost totally unknown outside Japan, especially the long-buried games that the article talks about. We all know our own terrain – which can be as broad as the Japanese computer market or as tiny as a fan community – and it adds so much to share what we know with others.

I looked at this and this and went Oh, Anime Man doesn’t like a popular anime and otakus are pissed, what’s new.

But there is actually something new about this!

In this case, people aren’t pissed because someone simply doesn’t like their fav anime, they’re pissed because Joey recognized Y/OI exactly for what it is: an anime aimed at Yaoi fangirls.

I think that if he’d just said that he thought it was boring, or complained about pace and characterization, people wouldn’t have minded.

But he went for Y/OI’s fandom’s throat and said THIS SHIT IS BL! IT’S FOR YAOI FANGIRLS! And then comapred it to Free!

That’s the uncrossable line in Y/OI fandom, where apparently everyone seems to believe this is a groundbreaking, history making anime saving the gays in Japan through amazing representation. Oh, and it’s not just for fangirls! Men love it, too!! Lots of them!! Gay men, straight men, it’s a hit with eeeeeverybody.

Joey the Anime Man pointed out that the emperor has no clothes.

Adoptedz AU Headcanons:

Let’s get some things settled before I start! This AU was inspired by a meme post my bestie @maccamc about Damon and Jamie giving birth to the Gorillaz characters! It’s was a stock photo of a mother giving birth but Damon face was Photoshop on the father face, holding the mother and Jamie face was put on mother giving birth! Sorry If I got the details wrong Macc! Anyway Here’s a brief Description of the AU, Damon and Jamie are Married and they adopted the Gorillaz characters as children! Now I know you questions is this a Jamion ship? Well yes and no. Me and Macc never attended it to be taken seriously! It’s not like like we actually shipped them, we both know that they’re real people and understand how weird it would be to be shipped with your best friend, after all they both have children! Don’t worry I’m not hating on the Ship, I’m just saying that we’re both aware of the situation! You go ship your ship as long as it’s not pedophilia and all that obvious bad stuff! Anyway it is technically Jamion, but we both made this on a silly note, so you shouldn’t take this too seriously! On the other hand I’m actually going to take this idea seriously because I see potential in this. So in this AU they will be Jamion and even though I may not ship it. I see the potential to explore many plots with that ship, so I’m it’s going to be Jamion for this AU. If you don’t ship it leave now okay? Okay! Now that everything’s cleared up let’s begin!
